I can't wait for the day that Marvel gets the movie rights back for their best characters. Spiderman 3 was shockingly bad and I will never forgive them for reducing the entire black suit/venom storyline to little more than 40 mins of screen time. The only thing that could work in Spiderman 4 favour is if they cast Ben Kingsley as the Vulture and let the Lizard loose on New York.
I just hope that...

01:17:46 AM
c'mon, for the 4th movie lets make the costume a little fresh...i think they should add small webbings underneath his arms (like from just above the elbow to ribs). It would enable him to glide a bit as he falls (in the story at least). I think at this point we have to change up the costume a bit but not over do it....the webbings have existed before in the comics and cartoons...i think they'd look cool

Spider-Man 4: Preliminary plot synopsis
by Anything But Tangerines
Jun 3rd, 2009
01:26:52 AM
Parker and MJ are living together and have given up fighting and "singing" for the quiet life of running a BnB out of their dilapidated studio apartment. A mysterious guest offers to pay in cash and keep his face hidden. The next morning, Peter notices a wetness near the foot of his bed. MJ has been decapitated and eaten, her flayed skull dropping to the floor and Peter kicks it away, terrified. Suddenly, a disturbance in the foyer alarms his Spider sense and the villain is revealed to him- none other than Hannibal Lecter, face dripping red and armed only with a fondue fork. Rushing back inside to change into his suit, Peter trips over his ex-girlfriend's skull, giving Lecter the chance he needs to pin Parker. Lecter's knee on his throat, Parker instinctively attempts to blind him with webbing , only to discover that both of his arms have been torn off at the elbows. The NYPD arrive on scene just in time to scare off the sadistic psychopath, leaving Peter crippled and seemingly done for. The next day, Peter wakes up in the hospital, a team of esteemed physicians huddled around him. They reveal to him their shock and disbelief as both of Peter's arms have grown back! Something is different, however, as the new appendages are covered in black fuzz with nubby fingers at their tips. His strength returns to him in an instant, and Peter leaps out the hospital window and tries to spin a web to safety only to fall 11 stories, landing on all fours. He tries again to spin webs with his wrists, but they instead shoot from his anus. Mortified, Peter scurries into a dark alley and contemplates his new Spider-Powers. It seems he is slowly becoming more spider than man...

Not of fan of the Spidey movies. At first I thought the first one was passable but now I don't give a crap about the entire franchise. The second was so awful to me that I didn't bother with the third so a giant 4 hovering over the city in a poor excuse for a web isn't going to get me interested. Can't stand Shrek either. Elsewhere, ya know I'm sorry but, yea I've had a lot of respect for Raimi over his career and loved a lotta stuff, but Spidey 3 was so gut wretchingly awful, I'm really thinking he deserves to have the keys taken away from him now.

The whole Saga of the Black Costume is horribly overrated by us geeks. Not only is the comic version unbelievably convoluted (Secret Wars, anyone?), but Eddie Brock's entire motivation for hating Spider-Man is retarded. Brock "exposes" the wrong guy as a super-villain, so he gets an incredible mad-on for Spidey when the web-slinger captures the real baddie. I don't care how insane Brock is, the logic there made no sense. If anything, Raimi and Topher Grace at least improved on that aspect of the story (why he hates Peter/Spidey). And, as much as I loved Venom's early McFarlane appareances, a space-alien doesn't really belong in a Spidey comic, even less so in a Spidey MOVIE, of which we'll all be fortunate to see only a half-dozen or so in our lifetimes. Stick to street-level baddies like the Goblin, Doc Ock, Kingpin, Kraven, Mysterio, Vulture, etc. In many ways, SM3 was doomed before the script was finished. Still, I have to blame Raimi for that stupid Sandman-killed-Uncle-Ben "twist." Ugh.

the script has already been written and should be in Raimi's hands by now. If you remember the interview AICN did with him (or maybe it was comingsoon.net) he says, weeks ago, that the script was supposed to be finished this summer and in his hands. So, I imagine the next step (just guessing) is tweaking and storyboarding.
BTW, for all the Raimi haters, Drag Me To Hell was awesome! The ending was pulled off very well seeing as how Raimi knew it would be obvious. He fucks with you, making you think, "Nah, it's just too obvious. She must have really given the gypsy the button." And, then when the end happens, it isn't a surprise (read the title) but it is played off well. I remember reading about him explaining the difficulty in it. As for the poster on flixster who said, and I paraphrase, "Instead of giving us a WTF? moment he goes for the obvious. le sigh."-Go fuck yourself you pretentious airbag.

Personally, I'd rather see Raimi and crew go back, do some rewrites and reshoots, and FIX Spider-man 3. Unlike most people, I didn't think it was a total shitfest of a film, because there were some great moments in there, some story and character development that worked, but overall the movie felt extremely rushed and unpolished. Like you could tell Raimi hated the whole Venom story and, as a result, just stopped caring about the entire picture, half-assing it at nearly every corner. And that's sad, because it could have worked if they'd gone through a few more drafts of the script, and had the balls to make the movie longer to actually develop BOTH stories. If people will sit through almost 3 hours of Harry Potter, I'm sure they'd sit through 3 hours of a truly epic, kick-ass Spider-man.

Eh. Sadly, I really just don't care about Spider-man anymore. They fucked it up. The same way they fucked up X-Men. The same way they're bound to fuck up Iron Man. Once you kill the momentum of a franchise, once you stop it dead with a steaming black turd sitting in the middle of a pearl white carpet at a party, it's nearly impossible to make people forget it ever happened and rebuild the energy that was there before. The damage is done. The party is over.

Spiderman 2 is probably one of the best superhero movies ever made, which many will say, and some will disagree with, Last time was a bust, 3 was not great, but watchable to say the least, but for anyone to say something ridiculous like you felt betrayed? by finky089
Jun 3rd, 2009
09:53:54 AM
B/C "Spiderman 4" implies it'll be a continuation of Spiderman 3, which just wasn't cutting it compared to the previous Spidey films.

I consider a new Spidey film the way I do a new Superman film. I would liek to go see a new one in the theaters, but not if it's just going to continue as the same product that we most recently saw on the big screen.

Or, consider this metaphor:

I like souvlaki. I once had some bad souvlaki at this one greek place and it tore me up. But does that mean I'll never eat souvlaki again? No. It means I DEFINTIELY won't go back to the same place when I want it again and that I'll be a little more cautious when I think about getting it at another place. But i ain't writing off something I enjoy altogether because of one bad experience.

Of course, every now and then you get a good 4th movie

Is that a sunrise or a sunset? There is a tear in the web which looks a bit like a lightning bolt. Electro? However, I'm confident the villain will be Morbius because vampires are all the rage. Although in the film he will be about 17 years old, with big hair, with only one expression, like that of someone who just lost their best friend.

They could do the story from Amazing Spider-Man 100-102 with Morbius, the Lizard, and CGI arms.

Tell that to James Bond...no matter how sucky the last one was, they'll always glom onto a current action movie trend and ressurect interest in the franchise. Diamonds Are Forever, Moonraker, A View To A Kill and Die Another Day all sucked balls, yet they're still making 007 movies.

That said, I LIKED Spider-Man 3, dammit. Yeah the Venom shit was half-assed, but the Peter/Mary Jane/Harry stuff was well-done, and I even liked the Sandman stuff. Funny how people are laying the blame for that film on Raimi's doorstep, when he directed the HELL out of that movie. Blame the "suits" for cramming too much stuff into one movie.
There was absolutely no need to make Sandman

Uncle Ben's killer. Ridiculous. Why is it that the only time Spider-Man, in the movies, fights a villain is for revenge or to save a loved one? Why can't he go after a super-villain just for the sake of stopping him?

"With great power comes great responsibility" - the responsibility of putting your life on the line for the greater good. Instead, the movies focus on his "responsibility" making him late for classes and dates. Sure it sucks and could be frustrating but hardly the kind of sacrifice expected of heroes. How about seeing a Spider-Man who gets the ever-living crap kicked out of him in trying to stop a villain, and then going back for more because it's the right thing to do? And NOT BECAUSE MJ IS BEING HELD AS BAIT !!!

Clone Saga? I hope not...

So the title of Shrek 4 isn't "Shrek goes Fourth"? Its "Shrek Forever After"? lame. Didn't like Iron Man 1. Couldn't get emotionally attached to the character. No personality whatsoever. Look at the front of the DVD. Its THAT face throughout the entire movie, only if he is scared or surprised its wide-eyed. Not looking foward to 2. Oobermind? I dont know.... Spider-man 4. Ahh, yes. Spidey 1, great; Spidey 2, great; Spidey 3, loved it ( i dont know why everyone hates it here. i was good. i enjoyed it. sure Venom wasn't portrayed perfectly like in the comics but I liked it. Not as good as 2 but comes close with 1.) So, Spidy 4, I hope its Morbius. That would be awesome. I think Lizard can wait until 5. And just in case you don't know, Sony, awhile back, signed for a total of 6 spider-man films. So we gotta when all the movies are finished we'll have a Spider-man saga of 6 films (awesome!)

But I agree it was good (not great) but the last act just became a jumbled mess, but the fights still had good moments, I love the extreme quick moment of Spidey and Venom fighting upwards through the air. Unless I am crazy. Crap now I have to go put it in and make sure.

I love spidey films. I love Raimi's directing style. So SM3 was a bit messy. If it wasn't for Avi Arad pressuring Raimi to include Venom at the 11th hour (even though Raimi swore he'd never have Venom), SM3 would have been fantastic. We would have gotten Lizard, especially!

The reason I look most forward to SM4 is because Raimi is going to be given complete control (for the first time on SM), with no studio interference which, to me, says that SM4 might just be the best of the bunch. I can't wait to find out.

As for Shrek, yes, 3 was mediocre at best, I hope that 4 far surpasses it.

Iron Man 2 should be good. I wasn't much for Terrence Howard. He was a bit schmaltzy. Cheadle is more of a hard-liner and is better fit (I'm glad that Howard is endorsing Cheadle. Classy move.).

Oobermind, I still have very little to go on, so I'll just say that I like that many of the superhero stories coming out are focusing on the villian. Let's face it, there are some pretty rich character themes to be explored by looking at the darker personae.

Did someone say that Pixar is making Cars 2 before Incredibles 2??? WTF??? I'm a huge automobile enthusiast, but Cars, the movies, didn't do much for me. Incredibles, however, is still my fave Pixar movie. *sigh*

was a horrible idea. It took all the emotion from SM1 and SM2 and pretty much invalidated it. The scene with Peter telling Aunt May about what happened that night in SM2 was one of my favorite dramatic scenes ever. It lifted the quality of the movie another level. Then, along comes SM3 and makes the whole scene an exercise in futility.
The Spider-Man series was fucked from the start
by Continentalop
Jun 3rd, 2009
02:23:11 PM
First off, Raimi has done a generally awesome job, with the exception of III, but the Spider-Man series was doomed to go out with a whimper instead of a bang because they did one thing horribly wrong - they had the first movie be about the Green Goblin and butchered the Death of Gwen Stacy story line.

The most important Spider-Man story outside of his origin can now never be told in this series. If they had saved the Green Goblin and the Death of Gwen Stacy until Part III they could have had so many different toys and angles to work with. Now any attempts to do so will just be a mockery of it.

In fact, I think any problems to this series can be traced to that mistake. Bored with MJ? Well, if you hadn't fucked up the Stacy story line you could have brought in another love interest for one or two movies. Parker's character getting bland? Hell, after the death of his true love you could go dark for a movie and you wouldn't even need a symbiote to do it (plus, he wouldn't have come across as whiny as he did in part III - his fucking gf died). Need motivation for people to go after Spider-Man?

Well, when Spider-Man is held responsible for the death of Gwen Stacy, it is easy to see J.J Jameson and the cops going after him (and maybe hiring Kraven or creating a Scorpion to fight him).

Had they saved the Death of Gwen Stacy and the Death of the Green Goblin, all problems would have been solved.

I heard the Moribus rumor, but I get the feeling he maybe a cameo more then villain. Spidey 3 was a movie trying to do too much with very little time. Look at my username and see who I blame for that disaster. Death of Gwen Stacy would had been a terrible first movie. The first movie should be light and then move to darker tone. To have Gwen die in that film would have been a dagger in the heart. People don't go to comic books films espically the first one with blockbuster money behind it to be depressed. If you want to be depressing after the second that is fine, but at least have an idea of what you want to do for a third film, I'm looking at you, Nolan/Bale Batman franchise. It might have been cool, but really Gwen has been put on this pedestal that she never deserved to be on. Not having Gwen in the films at all would have been a better move that way people would never have bitched about it. Spidey 4 can be good depending on the villain, but the real crime of the Spidey films is killing Doc Ock, because a Sinster Six movie would have kicked all kinds of ass. If I were about any of those films, Iron Man 2 being dark and moody compared to how much fun the first one which is why people loved that about the first film is my big question mark move.

Will Ferrell; Ben Stiller; Owen Wilson; Vince Vaughn on and on - one trick ponies when it comes to comedy these days. They all have some talent, but they stay safe and safe is usually boring. I don't hate any of them, but so bored by their beats, I see them coming a mile away anymore. Gee, wonder if Ferrell will get excited and do his "I drive a Dodge Dart!" voice. I thought you posted to go with that one first. My bad. Still, I hear that agreement all the time for Spidey 1. My thing with Spidey is that he shouldn't be that dark. He is the light hearted anti-hero. He has some dark stories, but the character is not dark by nature just some bad luck. I am so tired that every comic book hero has to be Dark Knight. I hate to break it to people by the ending of Dark Knight is going to kill this franchise. They should have killed Joker and kept Two-Face as soon as Heath arrived DOA at the hospital. I love Dark Knight, but the ending is a disaster to the entire franchise and mythos that I really do think Batman 3 will be more of a problem then any other sequel made in the next five years.
I agree with you on both counts fanboy

Spider-Man should be light. You can go dark here and there because he is supposed to represent the Everyman with his ups-and-downs, but the overall movie should be light and fun (and melodramatic). Maybe one movie could be dark but at the end it should become light (the one following the Death of Gwen Stacy for example). But like I said, now they have blown it by getting rid of the most dramatic thing that has ever happened to him.

I also agree about TDK. It is going to be hard to continue the franchise, but in Nolan's defense he admits he doesn't think of this in terms of franchise and series but as individual movies. I think he just went out to make the best damn Batman movie he could, hell with the consequences (of course, no it is going to be hard to follow up on it).

I agree MJ should die. First 5 min? Sure.

And I'm really digging the 'Spidey v Kraven v Lizard" idea that's been bouncing around. Ben Kingsley would be an awesome Vulture, but I can only see the character showing up in the third act as the one that hired Kraven.

I don't know, I want to quit Raimi's Spiderman movies, but I really enjoyed the first one, and the second one was a terrific follow up. But 3? I wish I could throw that biyatch into Final Cut and make a version focusing on the black suit and how dangerous it is. But the movie would only be 30 minutes long.

Tobey is just too morose and sad to be a fun Spiderman. Peter Parker in the comics has plenty of weight on his shoulders but he's also able to have some serious fun as a superhero and he's an incessant smart-ass, all of which are aspects of his character that Tobey never got. I still think Ryan Reynolds would have been an absolutely brilliant Spiderman. As for Drag Me to Hell, it had some charm but the camp damn near destroyed the horror element. I'd argue that both Midnight Meat Train and Quarantine were actually better recent horror flicks.

It's obviously further along than I thought, I was unaware that they had signed Raimi officially yet I thought it was still real limbo'd, I am too woefully misinformed on this subject to be effectively posting on it. I will say though that I love Raimi, can't wait to see Drag Me To Hell and I will definitely see Spider-Man 4, though grudgingly. It just seems an ad when there's absolutely nothing to technically advertise seems stupid.

Exactly. There is a way to finesse it. And certainly later-on someone else can play their version, but Heath and Nolan have theirs, not to mention, as much fun as Joker is, we've had his movie, so to speak. But keep that influence alive. Basically, I trust Nolan and will be excited if goes again and what he and his team come up with. The whole IMAX scenes shows me he cares about making the experience as cool as possible.

the ad is pretty stupid at this point. It's like advertising for a store that's just broken ground. If you're gonna tease, tease. Show a dark shadow moving in the distance or something. A big number on a web is just boring to look at. Still, I can't help but get a lil' excited everytime I see or hear something new about this. It could easily be retconed that his arms pulled him away as the 'sun' he created sank, dragging him to the surface before he drowned. I will say I didn't hate SM3, but it was dissapointing to have such a poor Venom forced on us. I think Sandman and Harry as Green Goblin would have worked just fine. Introducing Brock was fine, setting us up for a full on Venom movie in 4, but cramming 3 villians in was overkill, when the first two only had 1 each. I don't really have anything to say on any of the other posters, except that I am looking forward to Ironman 2, can't seem to care about Shrek 4, and have no attachment to any of the other properties one way or another.

mean, don't get me wrong. I love the movies, particularly the first two. But to me, they're a guilty pleasure for the following reasons: 1. Maguire's Spiderman has zero charisma or humor. C'mon it's spidey! He uses sarcasm as a defense mechanism during the fights in the comics but you don't see any of that here. No wit, no cleverness, just some lazy ass dork. I get it, he's SUPPOSED to be a dork in high school, but not for THREE FRICKIN' MOVIES! I kinda have the feeling it's because Tobey is a very limited actor. Really he's not great at all and, I think, the wrong choice for Spidey. One of the reasons I was so disapointed with 3 is because Topher Grace would have been PERFECT as Spiderman. It's so frustrating. He has EVERYTHING Maguire lacks. It's like Raimi kinda felt that too in a way, considering he said Brock would be a mirror for Peter. But now, there's no way we'll see Topher being Spiderman, particularly considering the fact that his career seems to have been flushed down the toilet. 2.Bad scripts. Am I the only one who thinks that these scripts are laden with cliche and absolutely cringe-worthy lines? Not to mention Raimi's obsessive need to make every movie "A lesson Peter has to learn". For god's sake it's been three movies! And it's not just kids watching this. Raimi gives Spidey no fun, it's always struggles and "lessons to learn". I remember an interview with Raimi where he said something along the lines of "The question for me, with this one, is what does Peter have to learn this time?". HE DOESN'T HAVE TO LEARN ANYTHING. 3. It seems to me Raimi focuses on the romance aspect of the story, wrongly thinking that people like this. He is absolutely wrong, people don't care, especially since it's not done particularly well. Admit it, when you watch the movie, you're counting the seconds for the MJ-Peter scenes to end. I rest my case, as I am obviously right and you need no further convincing.

Only thing I would point out as I always loved those thought bubbles during the fights in the comics, but I'm not sure those would translate well in a movie. As Vulture attacks we hear voice-over - "I can't believe M.J.'s late again this month." Jump around, spin here and there. Voice over "These evil baddies are one thing, but I'm not about to change diapers." Duck and cover. "Well, I'm sure Aunt May will have a speech to make me feel better about the pregnancy." Lol! Yes, I suck! But damn that was fun!

Yeah, I've posited the idea of Larry David as the Vulture, but that's actually a good take on how to do the character. No one takes him seriously, the cops ignore him, Spidey's not even aware of him until he, I don't know, blows up a school (Peter's old school?).

Still, I want S-M4 to be the Lizard story. Lizard, then Kraven shows up to hunt him. Spidey's gotta protect Lizard and fight him at the same time. Simple. Elegant. And keeping with the themes of the previous installments.

Avi Avrads fault? I can see insisting the movie have Venom in it but He did not control how the character was written and how it was portrayed. Raimi had the oppurtunity to create a character that knows all peter's secrets, all his powers just like he did with the goblin only stronger. Instead he pouted and the whole movie suffered. If your boss asks you to do something that you don't want to do, do you Half ass it just because you do not want to do it. Or do you do it with as much effort as you can and show people what you capable of even when pushed. If any thing SM3 shows Raimi has the potential to destroy a movie if he does not get his way.

When he says they never mapped out more than just one movie at a time. I don't even see Spider-Man as a trilogy, I see it as at least a hexalogy (six stories). They should have known where they wanted to go for at least three or four movies down the line instead of just thinking about what is in front of their face.

I don't like Venom, but I understand he is popular so I realize that if you are going to use him it will take at least two movies to do it - one to introduce the symbiote and Eddie Brock, and one to show Venom.

phases, and during it most transitional, going from the still living off the Lee/Kirby/Ditko stuff to actually making the titles vibrant again without seeming redundant.

Byrne on FF; Miller on Daredevil; Simonson on Thor; Clairmont on X-Men; Layton on Iron Man; and Stern on Spider-Man and the Avengers. All those titles had renaissance under these young writers, bringing those titles back to the level when Lee, Kirby, Ditko and Romita where working on them. And sometimes these writer's vision of the character actually replaced the original writers (especially DD & X-Men). Only Wolfman and Perez on Teen Titans compare to the Marvel stuff.

As was noted, he was put into a script that had nothing to do with his character very late in pre-production. As in they added his character to a completed script that was ready for filming. Hell, early promotional posters had sandman's daughter primarily featured, and her scenes were mostly cut and unfilmed. So yeah, for all the crappy scenes involving venom, raimi shouldn't be blamed. But everything else that didn't work in the film is his fault. No one is letting him off the hook for his dancing, or the all knowing butler of exposition.

Speaking of Guy Pierce, when are we getting the dtv sequel to Memento, "Memento 2: Shit, I Killed Teddy...Again!"?
Also, as for the "what lesson can we teach Peter" themes. As long as they translate to "how can Peter evolve" I don't see the problem. I get it; no one wants to see Peter crying for two hours. But, the first two movies worked because Peter was allowed to evolve and grow as a person, that is, there was plenty of character development. And, in a way, the villains were metaphors for what he was experiencing.

Start with a first-half bit where Spidey fights a cool Electro, then present the origin of the Lizard, then Pete has to save his old prof by curing him before Kraven hunts him down as the ultimate game. I'll leave casting to those less-qualified.

Open the movie with a montage of Spider-Man fighting villains - Electro, Beetle, Kane, Hydro, Hammerhead, Chameleon, Mysterio, etc. They obviously are not going to make movies spotlighting every one of them, so why throw them altogether in an opening shot?

Mobius vs The Lizard would be an obvious one because of the effects of blood and odd mutations. Similarly, The Lizard vs Hydro because of not only a race to find a cure for the mutations, but the use of sewers would be equally valid for both and Mary Jane would have an actual use. Anyone have a feeling that they are trying to work their way to 6 only to be able to use the Sinister Six in an ad campaign?

(see how this goes over) I have decided after years of hating it (which i still do) that Batman & Robin is not actually the worst movie in that it is exactly the vision Joel had and wanted. His vision was horrid, no doubt, but it was "well-made" as far as movies go. (ducking and running for cover) D&D on the other hand was meant to be cool and failed on every level. So at the very least D&D is easily worse. Oh yeah, fuck, I said it! But yes, it is a shitty movie none-the-less. Just not the worst movie ever. Not sure what my point is in even bringing it up. But I'm sure alcohol had a hand.

Raimi didn't ruin Venom; the whole character and story came pre-ruined. It's a lame character that was foisted on Raimi.

I agree that he ruined the Sandman story, with that ending. Good up until then, though. Most importantly, Spider-man was annoying, also; that's probably the worst part of the 3.

The problem is not Arad.
by ORGANIZED CHAOS
Jun 4th, 2009
05:55:19 AM
I do find it weird that people are blaming Arad for SM3. As someone else already pointed out, do you really think Raimi was forced to insert Venom in there after two successful and critically acclaimed movies? If it's true that the whole story was already fleshed out before Venom and Raimi put him in at the last second to please Arad so it screwed the whole flow, I'm sorry but that says more about Raimi than it does about Arad: Avi just thought he would sell more toys, Raimi was willing to sacrifice his story just to please the producer. And anyway, Venom is not the only thing, or for that matter the worst thing, in SM3. What about never-ending coincidences that move the story along, or all those horrible scenes with MJ, and making Sandman uncle Ben's killer (effectively eliminating the whole point of the Spiderman mythos to add some cheap depth that the character hasn't earned). What about more pointless moralizing speeches from Aunt May, or the fact that "Tubby" Maguire never convinces as Spidey (With that frikkin' double chin hanging out all the time, jeez would it have hurt to cut the donuts a bit?) or that damn butler... Oh don't get me started on the butler. The singing, The dancing, The crying, The soap-opera plot devices, the soap-opera clunky lines, the soap opera acting... I'm sorry if I'm ranting, it just frustrates me to no end that these movies feel like a missed opportunity as many of the problems I enlisted above are present in the first two movies. And despite everything I've already said, I enjoy the movies and will certainly go see the 4th one. To be fair, Raimi has gotten things right, but I REALLY wanted them to start anew: new scriptwriters, new cast, new actors.. This series just feels stale now, and I doubt Raimi's gonna shake his whole "system of working" so to speak, this time. That new poster certainly doesn't show it.

. . . here's what I think of those posters:

1) Shrek: Boring poster for an unwanted movie.

2) Oobermind: Looks like it could be cool. From the poster, I presume that the "bad guy" is actually the protagonist? Fun basic idea, but the devil's in the details.

3) Iron Man: Looks like something virtually anybody could do using GIMP. When they don't even need Photoshop to get the job done, you know there's a lack of effort involved.

4) Spiderman: At first glance, looks pretty uninspired. Sunrise over Manhattan. Big deal. But then, it dawned on me (no pun intended) that it isn't sunrise. It's sunset. And who comes out after the sun sets? YOU KNOW WHO COMES OUT AFTER THE SUN SETS!!!! Doctor Michael Morbius, that's who!!!

If that's actually where they're going with #4, the end of the flick should hint at a Marvel Zombies movie in the future.

Can you imagine Sam Raimi doing a Marvel Zombies movie?!?!?!

Just thinking about it, I just leaked a little. From every orifice. Even a few orifices (orifii?) that I didn't know I had.

09:34:00 AM
If Doctor Michael Morbius is indeed the villain.

Bright day. Shiny happy music. Peter and MJ have just finished a session of awesome Spider-Nookie. Spidey's out swining in the sunshine down the canyons of Manhattan. He stops a burglery. He helps an old lady cross the street. He helps a cat out of a tree. Maybe even a cheesy piece of dialogue where Toby thinks to himself, "maybe things will finally be O-K for your friendly neighbourhood Spiderman."

Cut to shot of Manhattan from the air. The music stops. The sun is setting in the distance. The long shadow of night descends on Manhattan. Camera zooms in.

Glowing white eyes start popping up in various locations arond the city.

Fade to black & big "4" logo.

Make it the hardest PG13 that Sam Raimi can come up with, and I think the stillbirth that was #3 can be erased from all out memories. Really, truly I do.

I really don't think enough people understand just how cool a character Michael Morbius really is.

Plus, if they decide that one quasi-supernatural villain isn't enough, they can always throw in the demon-version of the Hobgoblin and a kick-ass, feral, really scary version of the Lizard.

But that would be villain overkill.

No, stick with a good Michael Morbius story. Really show the constrast between Spidey and Batman. In other words, Spidey has powers but no actual training. Use the scenario to show that he's really out of his depth stalking a villain who doesn't WANT to be caught (unlike every villain he's faced so far).

Really play up the idea that the villain is stalking the population of New York, not Peter Parker's relatives. Show how quickly the city turns on Spidey when he proves incompetent at protecting them from a truly malevolent, primordial force of evil.

And don't play J.J. Jameson for laughs. This sort of story line would be perfect for a serious look at Jameson and the power of the media.

Man, this is totally the sort of POTENTIAL kick-ass movie that is almost guaranteed to SUCK when it's actually executed.

Damn, now I'm bumming myself out.

Now i'm imagining an Evil Dead-style version of . . .

That high above NYC, the torn webbing can only be the work of Stilt-Man! Kidding. Really hoping for a kickass Lizard story, but would be happy with Morbious too. Maybe just for kicks, they could start this one out with a 5 minute knock down, drag out fight between Spidey and some second rate villain like the Spot or the Rocket Racer or something. That would satisfy the studio execs urge to stick in more than one villain, let Spidey completely kick ass to start off the flick, and give the fans that little something extra.

I'd prefer that Kraven was not hired but is hunting Spider-Man purely for the pleasure of it. Makes him more menacing and relentless.
