...but changing the name of the character in a kid's book from Wally to Waldo is not one of them. They didn't dumb it down; they both have the same amount of syllables and everything! In fact, I'd imagine your average toddler would find it harder to pronounce Waldo than Wally. So, in a way, you could say they upped the intelligence level for the US market.
