Letterman had the funniest billboard I've ever seen.
by Stifler's Mom
Jun 1st, 2009
10:25:14 PM
About ten years ago in Times Square, NBC put up a giant billboard that read "NUMBER 1 IN LATE NIGHT!" with an incredibly hammy picture of Jay Leno, basically just smirking like an asshole. A few weeks later, about a block away, CBS put up a similar billboard that proudly declared "NUMBER 3 IN LATE NIGHT!" (This is when Letterman was sometimes getting beat by Politically Incorrect) The picture was fucking hilarous- Dave with a big, goofy, shit-eating smile on his face. A hysterical self-depreciating response to that nitwit Leno.
I'd rather watch Cosby over Ferrell.

Mostly because of Ferrell raping my childhood this weekend with Land of the Lost.

But on second thought, Anna Friel will be partaking in the raping, so it's not all bad. She can rape my childhood anytime.

As shallow a thing as that is to say, I thought his set was kinda cozy, with the audience up front and the band at arm's length. Conan's new set is too big and overly lit.

If he chooses to tone down the wackiness, be a little more friendly, concentrate on his ability to conduct some of the best interviews on TV, and put a little more time into his monologues, I bet he could clean up in the ratings. Conan's going to capture the youth market, he might as well try to lure a few of Leno's old faithfuls to his side. But I suspect that Dave won't change his show one bit, doing his show his way always seemed more important to him than ratings.

After 9/11 both Leno and Letterman both added flag pins to their suits. Guess which one kept his. I like the idea of flag pins, but the people wearing them are often douchebags, particularly if their message is to support a president or a war whether they're right or wrong. Anyway, here's a Letterman joke about Obama: "President Obama, by the way, is, I think, making his first presidential European trip. And while he's there in Europe, he plans to fire the CEOs of BMW and Volkswagen." Happy?
That's because Bush was an incompetent assclown fuckhead.

when he was on NBC with low budget humor. CBS kinda spoiled him for me. And the Bush-bashing got old (although he deserved it) and repetitive and unfunny with time. I've been a fan since Letterman's morning show. Anyone 'member that?

If you continue to put up videos that are not available to people in Canada, should I take that as a hint that the advertising revenue generated by your Canadian readers is not needed or wanted?

I'm very curious to see who wins between Conan and Dave, once the newness shine leaves Mr. O'Brien. I like both, but would rather see Dave at number one for awhile before he retires. Losing to Conan might kill the guy.

but that's what is appealing to me, I don't want to see a happy go lucky generic face going through the motions. Conan has his own style which I love, Kimmel is the biggest show bizz whore there is. Fallon is too early to tell but i dont have high hopes. Leno to me turned into the generic face, trying to please as many people as possible and try not to offend anyone. Thats not a bad thing, just not for me. BTW Ferguson, why no love for this crazy bastard? I like him!
NBC shot itself in the foot...

...Pushing Leno out. THE TONIGHT SHOW appeals primarily to an older demographic (too old for my ass). Leno's cutesy, harmless humor was perfect in that slot.

Now that they've shoehorned in Conan and his sophmoric potty/pothead humor, this plane's going straight into the tarmac. Letterman will win over the long run.
