at the screening in LA this past weekend. i enjoyed the movie, not at all what i was expecting. i was a huge fan of brick and i couldn't find any similarities between that and bloom. it was a pretty ballsy step to drastically change tone, genre, and mood because of how fucking awesome brick was, but i think it paid off. rian johnson also seemed like a good dude. he was hanging around for a while in the lobby answering question long after they had kicked us out of the theater. go check it out, just don't expect brick. i saw a review in aicn a while back that said it better than i can: it's like if hal ashby (with a little bit of wes anderson) had directed The Sting.

I am excited for this movie. I know that the movie is being released this Friday, but will that be a general release, or just a limited one? I'm in Reno and would be willing to drive to Sacramento or the Bay Area if needed to see this.

I loved Brick, but this movie was a mess. Great acting and a nice look to the film but the story was like swiss cheese with the plot holes, and it was overladen with the snarky wink to the audience. Go watch Milers Crossing, which is another film about the fine line between acting and reality, but does it in a successful way without ever condescending to it's audience.

Glad to see Rian's a fan of 'Primer'. Loved that picture. Kinda unappreciated for its smarts
OSCARS, CAPONE?

Capone, I dig you man, you know that. But Oscars? For The Brothers Bloom? You need to get some help, man. That movie SUCKED. And I'll bet you anything you want that Bloom gets no awards love from any organization. The cold, hard truth is that Rian is not a very good writer. Brick was equally stinky. In fact, Brick might even be better than Bloom. This movie did nothing for me. And the Q&A? Rian talking about his writing process? I walked out halfway because whatever his process is, it produces shitty results. He's got a decent eye, I like his style, but he needs to be working off of someone else's script. I've seen no evidence of real writing talent in his overpraised work. And Yawning, I have no idea why AICN continues to shill for this guy. He's not a terrible filmmaker but he's decidedly mediocre and when you combine that lack of talent with hype from a site like AICN, you get massive disappointment, and personally, that's how I see his career so far. A massive disappointment. I could give half a shit about his next film. How do you fuck up a con man movie with 2 Oscar winners, another Oscar nominee, and Mark Ruffalo, who should've been at least nominated by now. Great cast wasted on a shitty piece of whimsical writing.
