I've really liked what I have seen and heard about this so far. I also like that ABC said in their press release it will have a set number of seasons/an end date from the very beginning. It's a miracle! A network that actually learns and adapts...amazing. I will definitely be checking this one out in the Fall.

The special effects of the giant screens/ships over major cities/landmarks looked pretty bad. Interesting concept (must catch the original before this) but all I could think whilst watching that first video was that Elizabeth Mitchell should get back to Lost. Despite that I'll end up watching this no doubt, I'm a sucker for alien invasion stories. (Anyone remember Invasion a couple years back? That was pretty well done, if drawn out a little too long).
In the original V Script, there were no Lizards...
by Bones

It was just another humanoid race that came and controlled us. NBC suggested that Kenneth Johnson add the Lizard element to make it more "Sci-Fi".

It is going to be very interesting to see how this plays out. It seems that rather than NAZIs per say, the Visitors are now NeoCons. And considering that so much of what made V powerful included rounding up detainees and fundamentally changing how the world ran--and the rights that humans were allowed to have--This may very well be the new Battlestar Galactica when it comes to topical science fiction.

So long as God and his Angels doesn't show up at the eleventh hour, I am in like Flynn.

It looks like it could be a good show...and lets face it - they have a great template in the original...so here's hoping. And I had no problems with the special effects...there is a recession on, and budgets are not unlimited, so we can allow for some leverage there...the great thing about stories are, there are no budget restrictions on what the mind can tell the pen to do...lets hope the writers are given the space to perform... Fast forward - hmmmmm....

The Visitors are no longer all marching around in military uniforms? Is this a shift from the Nazi parallels, or will they simple be more subtle and also more heavily reflect more modern fears about government-influenced media which the 2nd clip indicates...? I think one of the improvements it could make over the original if done right is to have more characters who are shades-of-grey rather than either falling in line or joining the resistance... the original tried to do this, but modern TV is much more comfortable with "good" characters doing questionable things and redemption of villains so will be interesting to see where it goes.

I was a kid when the first V came out, I remember bits and pieces, especially the freaky lizard baby. That gave me nightmares. This looks like a high quality show, and I understand its only 13 episodes so that's probably enough to tell the story. V back when I was a kid... It had cool spaceships, sexy alien femme fatales and lots of action.

But later I found Arthur C Clarke's book, Childhood's End, which shared a similar story in many respects. I get the impression Johnson took Clarke's story, tweaked the plot and motivations of the of the Visitors just enough so there would not be a copyright lawsuit and took out elements that would have been too expensive to film back in 1984.

A shame that V was not as original of idea when I first viewed it back in the day with 8 year old eyes.

But, this remake looks better than I expected. I'll tune in to see what they did with the material.

this actually looks pretty cool. Morena is just the right level of creepy. And, like Battlestar, if done well, it can be politically relevant without a clear sense of X represents Y. They can be neo-cons, they can be libs - insert whatever 'other' you wish. And even if we know they have a secret agenda, it's how that plays out that will be important. I hope it's not a clear case of black and white. Flash Forward also looks ok, and I actually enjoyed Threshold - it just didn't get a chance to develop (although that year, Invasion was more subtle and interesting).

If the show wants to go for some semblance of realism, they should have the aliens admit right off the bat that, of course, they dont really look EXACTLY like human beings and that theyre just assuming a pleasing form to keep from freaking us out. The whole unmasking the alien thing has been done to death anyway so why even go there?

In V you knew who the visitors were clearly because of their alien voice and standard red jumpsuit. I fear this will tread into Battlestar territory with visitors hiding among us and I really dont have the patience to do this all over again. I hope they keep things straight forward and dont play the stupid early mid season reveal that character x was an alien this whole time. Us vs them. Keep it simple.

I was a HUGE fan of V when I was in my mid teens... my 16th birthday cake was a big V with red icing! I had all the DC comics (Still do) and all the novels... this looks like they've stayed true to the spirit of the original and I'm looking forward to seeing where they are going to take it. And the fact that they have a set arc and they are going to be done makes me VERY happy. How many shows and good concepts are run into the ground just because they start out insanelly popular and get dragged on and watered down. Have a story. Tell that story. Be done. One season? Two? That's why television - a lot of it anyway - in the UK is infinately superior to the North American drivel. How many bad fucking days can Jack Bauer Have?!?!?!

Come back when you've looked up what the word "Socialist" actually means, please. Hint: It doesn't mean a 3% tax increase for the bracket that's been enjoying rates their predecessors (even those who lived under conservative presidents) would have killed for.

For the record, I don't think that "don't go to school" was your best weapon seeing as which college graduates overwhelmingly vote Democrat. And while I can't stand "American Idol", at least it's more entertaining and wholesome than "Desperate Housewives", a red-state favorite.

1. Charismatic president swept into office? Check. See Barack Obama (aka Commander-in-Chimp).

2. Masses who don't read? Check. U.S. illiteracy = tied at 17th in the world with about 24 other countries. Fourteen percent of U.S. adults can't read.

3. Masses who don't go to school? Check. About 1/3 of all U.S. high school students don't graduate.

4. Masses who make lousy choices? Check. See abortion and foreclosure rates plus nos. 2 & 3.

5. Masses who only watch "American Idol?" Check. See Nielsen ratings. American Idol is top TWO shows.

6. Allow him (the Commander-in-Chimp) to make us into a Socialist state? Check. See definition of socialism (which, by the way, has NOTHING to do with onerous tax rates). From dictionary.com, socialism, a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole. See Barack Obama and the banking industry, the auto industry, the health care industry, and the energy providers.

To your point, though, one of the hallmarks of socialism is the redistribution of the wealth of high earners through progressive taxes, both of which (redistribution and higher taxes), the Commander-in-Chimp is on the record as favoring.

I do agree wih that: yes, the character-drama angle seems covered, but at some point the Visitors are gonna have to whip out some spaceships, and in the single imnage I saw from the first clip, I really couldn't make out what the mothership was supposed to look like. This means either that it's just an undewhelming design that's not as striking as the original motherships, or that the angle was so off that it looked bad (which happened to the first picture of the new Enterprise, too, as I recall). They're dong great with the spirit of the piece, but they need to cover the fighters, freighters, etc. that are gonna do the job of taking water and people-food.

Re: Obama voters, according to cnn (http://tinyurl.com/psshpt), Obama scored his widest margin of victory (63% to 35%) among those with NO HIGH SCHOOL. He also did well amongst those with post-graduate degrees (58% to 40%), but among college graduates (who, according to you, voted "overwhelmingly for Obama"), the Commander-in-Chimp won by the runaway margin of 50% to 48%, which is apparently "overwhelming" where you come from?!?!?! Even if one lumps college grad AND post-grad, the Messiah's (who, by the way, still has us in Iraq and Afghanistan, who continues warrantless wiretaps, won't release photos, and hasn't closed Gitmo) margin of victory is 53% to 47%, hardly an "overwhelming" victory and certainly nothing like his lead among the intelligentsia of "No High School."

In conclusion, perhaps it's you who should come back when you've done some more reading and research.

And no offense, but there's always the requisite "hey guys.. it goes both ways..." guy. And to a certain extent, that's true. People disagree.. and sometimes people lose their cool. But "growing up" is very, very far removed from having a point of view and expressing it. I would say it's more "grown up" to be able to tolerate it without feeling like you want to throw your keyboard at the monitor. And it's also not very mature to make a lot of assumptions about people and their political affiliations without them being stated.

You seem like a somewhat intelligent person so its somewhat puzzling, because almost everyone with half a brain who read 'The Bicycle Sharer's moronic drivel could tell that he is nothing but a retarded imbecile with nothing productive to contribute to human evolution. Soooo why the hell would you waste time (and valuable brain power) trying to engage him in a debate? The rest of us are not ignoring him because we can't argue with him, we're ignoring him because to do otherwise would be about as productive and useful as as trying to teach a chimp how to program a computer. Wait; actually you would stand a better chance with the chimp than making any sense to that dolt. The point is, stop sullying yourself communicating with that Neanderthal, and if you make like the rest of us and ignore him, or it, (it's only after attention, after all) it'll probably crawl back to whatever hole it oozed out of at Drudge, or Fox News or Cheney's taint.

Don't feed the neocons! I have found that the most intelligent people don't need to spur out their polemic sentiments to feel intellectually superior to everyone. If you are convicted in what you know, what you have seen and have conducted systematic, analytical and thorough research, then that should be enough. If someone attacks your views with an equally rational view, then agree to disagree (which, unfortunately, isn't the case here).

As for V, looks good. I'm actually excited about it now. Although I will miss Elizabeth Mitchell on Lost =(. At least I get to see her somewhere.

And my hopes for Flash Forward has officially been squashed. I have always loved the concept of hopping over to the other side and remembering what you saw. This kind of ruins it. The music is horrible, the pacing, the dialogue. Ugh. I thought this would have potential.

She is brazilian, and when she speaks portuguese in that scene, that's how she really sounds in her own native language. either way, she was a most beautiful voice, regardless of language she speaks.

It's too bad she has short hair now, i loved her long curly hair as seen in Firefly and Serenity.

There's a particular symbolism to the name Anna (or Hannah in english). In ancient hebrew, hannah means divine light, and this is why once even men were called Hannah as well, instead of it just being a feminine name only.

Obama is the pimp, bush is the chimp, and you can suck a dick. It is FACT that the undereducated vote Republican far more than the well-educated. It is a FACT that the whole reason our government needs to get involved with bail-outs (and hence govmt ownership of private enterprise) is that Republicans (including quasi-Repub Bill Clinton) abandoned all reasonable government responsibilty for oversight (which government always has a responsibility for, in all realms, particularly economic and industrial), and it is a FACT that you, sir, are a grade-A boob!

If it were a star trek episode, and you were a robot, you'd start to smoke while proclaiming..

Until you exploded. And to be fair, same goes for a lot of liberals. They can't choose between their repressed puritanical tendencies or their support of gay rights. When the liberals started hating porn, they lost me on some level. But at least they're typically smart. Smack a right wing nutbag with hard scientific evidence, peer-reviewed and substantiated some time. It's like a combination of a deer in headlights and a judge at a witch trial. Fight or flee, one free radical encounter with a brain cell away from a close encounter with the grill of a Studebaker. I SHIT Miller quality material.

you are spot on absolutely right. I meant to specify. The left wing in other countries like Canada and the UK have embraced anti-porn stances a little more often than in the US. (Canada's white ribbon campaign of a few years back comes to mind) And there has been a bit of the more radical left wing feminism that has considered pornographers rapists here in the US. I should have been a little more specific. My bad. You are absolutely accurate there, in my opinion.

I watched the original mini-series when it aired. I haven't seen it since so I don't know how well it's aged. The nazi-neocon shift in allegorical critiquing is certainly valid. Especially if they give us a black, puppet president who does nothing to fix the damage they've caused.

I mean, come on, 50% of the wealth in America is owned by its 300 richest citizens. They've gotten so rich that the only way they can squeeze us any further is by making everyone else poor. They tell us there's an economic crisis. And fucking Barak Obama wants to bail out the banks? With our tax dollars. I'd say call his presidency as big a joke as W's except we really did elect our boy Hussein.

Yes. This is truly a good time for sci-fi allegories that rip on the establishment. I wonder if they'll kill Martin again and have the same actor play his brother. Maybe they could use that plot device as a metaphor for how we elect politicians. I hope we get to see Moreena swallow a hamster. She's not as sexy without her long hair. Something about her with a Terri Bauer do kinda scares me.

In many ways, the right/left divide has fucked your country over. It's just too extreme. The impression foreigners get is that all republicans live in Texas, have an IQ below 100, believe in the literal truth of the bible, own 12 guns and marry their cousin.

All democrats, on the other hand, live in san francisco, are gay, black (or at least 'minority' in some way), vegan, atheist, drive a prius, are insufferably smug, and hate America.

Yes, these are stereotypes. But instead of trying to dispel these myths, it's almost like commentators in your country REVEL in the schism, in an ever uglier us-vs-them cultural war. For every Rush there is a Kos. For every O'Reilly there is an Olbermann. Imagine being a pragmatic rational centrist. You'd hang yourself!

One other thing, Miss California. The treatment meted out to her for exercising her right to free speech was fucking disgusting. Why haven't the same comments been thrown at Obama, who has *exactly the same position*? The left has a long and sad record of cowardly hypocrisy.

Also, it would be nice if people stopped using the term 'neo-cons' to mean conservatives. It's boring and pathetic and inaccurate.

..learned something new!

Stabby: I really wish it were just a right wing radio talking point. It's that dichotomy again. Sometimes people can't stand it when some asswipe they hate says something that happens to be true. Every movement/trend/revolution has it's dark corners. I just find that classic liberalism has fewer. That doesn't mean we can ignore it just because some talk radio gasbag happened to get one thing right.

Kobaal: Thanks for the thoughtful reply. Neo-con unfortunately still applies in a lot of cases. Young Limbaugh listeners that think watching South Park (which I find hilarious, not knocking it) lets them off the hook for being brain-dead me-toos are all over the place. And while I don't task myself with coming up with a new term for them other than young neo-cons, I find the term "south park conservative" disingenuous. I don't go throwing the neo-con thing around all the time, but sometimes it.. just.. applies. I'm not happy with labels, but sometimes if something is ugly, it just is. Refusing to categorize it as such just sounds like you're afraid of admitting to yourself that it's ugly. Too many of us want to FEEL comfortable, FEEL like we're on the right side, FEEL safe. Instead of facing the fact that comfort isn't good as a constant state, being on the right side only works if you're winning AND willing to ignore the misdeeds of your peers in silence.. and no-one is EVER safe. Being aware of some of these things makes it very difficult for me to convince people that I'm a generally optimistic person and typically makes me silent during dinner conversation.

The only reason South Park is ever referenced is it is probably the only youth oriented, pop-culture show that tends to have conservative views. It is an anomaly. If it weren't so good, it would have been kicked off the air by now. Also Limbaugh's audience is usually more informed, and from different sources than the liberals who are being criticized. But it is this exact polarization between right and left that has turned me off of politics. People are individuals... and trying to paint individuals with broad strokes just to fit them in convenient little boxes is ridiculous. Not everyone can be pigeonholed like that. The word neo-con is a childish attempt to conjure up the image of a neo-nazi when thinking of conservatives. It's ridiculous.

Someone like Jennifer Garner, IMO, has presence first, and is a hottie second. But I think her turn as Electra ruined any chance of her playing Wonder Woman.
