Sucks, but Mark Waid's two issue gem about Spidey and Shocker battling it out in the subways of NYC was stellar. The best thing so far. Also, Irredeemable seems promising -- the first issue is pretty intriguing. I think Waid will eventually do a total Universe type event -- like Civil war and Final Crisis -- but more along the lines of Johns' Blackest Night which, if it's anything like Sinestro Corp War, will be awesome. I see Waid doing something just as good.

I was glad when it folded because it so offended me with its ridiculously stupid ideas and retarded ass designs. I could barely stand to even se the covers, I hated the line so much. GOD! It sucked. I wish I could go back in time and hate them again because I hate them so much. I don't even really know why, but god damn I hated Crossgen.

I didn't remember that was Waid's handiwork. If ever there was a miniseries to track down, Empire is it. It was A VERY good read. Waid's work on Fantastic Four was also top notch. Loved that run too.

Forget Geoff Johns's endless retcons. Good storytelling will not be ignored by the people and Superman: Birthright is the best Superman story I have ever read. It holds a special place in my heart for that incredible ending and I plan to give a hardcopy to each of my parents the day I sell a script. I love, love, love Birthright.

I saw Dave Gibbons the other day and got my copy of Watchmen signed. Which, by my calculations, makes me super awesomly cool (though my calculations have been known to be wrong in the past)

... jumped the world's biggest shark a while ago. Not that the whole shark jumping thing applies to comic books, but you get what I mean. Each run seems to be worse than the last. It started out amazing and is now dog shit kooky teen drama.

I adored the original run of Runaways, every issue seemed, I dunno, original and seat of the pants stuff. The first time in many years teenage kids had been written right. Excellent interview too, very shocking at some of the gossip there, I had no idea that Didio was hating on 52, just goes to show what you read on some sites *cough* Newsarama *cough* isn't always the truth. If Waid is on the money DC would be best to replace the DD and give Geoff Johns and Grant Morrison tenure.

Blah. I was excited about seeing they were doing a Warriors comic so I watched the movie. Then when the comic came out I saw that it was just the fucking movie. Lame.

52 was great - and worlds above Countdown and Trinity in my opinion. So strange to hear that there was such concern behind the scene. Great interview with a phenomenal writer. Great work.

What happened to Rising Stars

It started out so interesting and then it faltered and jumped ahead in time and way overly condensed storylines and then started coming out sporadically and stoping for months at a time... Did it ever wrap up? I think that series might hold the crown for me when it comes to series that I most lament their dropped-ball status. That book should have been so good, even still going and unfolding... I think it was the first series where JMS began to set his precedent of petering off and fucking up and then just kind of walking away from a project. I wish I could do that shit with my work and still be considered awesome.
No argument here about JMS.

Remember Marvel's THE TWELVE? Remember when right in our column JMS swore to Bug that he was already five issues ahead and there was no way THE TWELVE would be late? Remember when the most recent issue came out like six months ago, and how we're already a year into a 12 issue series and have four issues to go? I just don't get it, man.

Been following ASM for a few months now, and have been really pleased with the story/artwork. Didn't realize until last night that Waid was the writer (yes, I don't pay that close attention). From the (really nice interview) he seems like a cool guy -- and I can relate to his roots in the Silver Age.

Of course, he actually did something with his passion for the medium; I just supported his dream by buying the product. Go figure.
Agh! The Twelve!

That was the deal breaker between me and JMS. We are no longer friends. That was the last time he gets to burn me. I sold all the issues back to my LCS and I'm not going to be buying the rest. Twelve issues? You can't even do Twelve issues? What the fuck, man...
In defense of JSM

Actually, I got no defense. I mean, if you are falling behind just pull out the old "Marvel Method": hand the artist a one page synopsis of what is going on, let him draw it anyway he wants and then you just add dialogue and captions. Maybe it isn't the comic you 100% wanted JSM, but at least the thing is fucking done. And I am sure your artist are good enough to tell a story without you dictating every damn panel.

RS wrapped up and was collected in 2005. It contained 1-24 and "visitations" in a HC book with slipcase. The 2009 release contains everything the first release had along with every mini series that was ever associated with the main story-but no slipcase

The whole "actual writing talent thing". There's that. Encyclopedic knowledge of the medium. That too. And being able to use it without his work seeming retro, which is what I can appreciate most of all.
