I watched "Machine Girl" finally a few months ago after it sat on my shelf for months. I wasn't as impressed as I'd hoped I'd be. It'd be better if I wasn't alone and sober.

I was pleasantly surprised by that film. It was smart and had interesting twists, and very few of the anime cliches that are so prevalent. A good movie for the non-anime fan... although it's not very fast-paced.

I for one applaud this idea far more than I did the idea of movie 2 being a made-up link between films.

Also, I really like the idea of getting to see the White Council (including Radagast the Brown!!!) and Gandalf going into the dungeons of Dol Goldur. I once had a dream about that neglected story of "the Hobbit", Gandalf going to Dol Goldur and finding Ringwraiths and evidence of Sauron's return. It was a very creepy dream, but I thought it felt pretty cinematic.

I look forward to it. More Gandalf the Grey action can't be bad.

Glad to see DANNYGLOVERS didn't like Be Kind Rewind. I saw it getting WAY too much love around it. Also bought that Star Trek Comic today. Hopefully its as good as this site has been hyping it to be. So 4 should be here tomorrow and 5 next week, kind of a best and worst my lady friend gets to see before she sees the new one. Anyway, those camcorder films just don't work for me. I did a double bill of Redacted and Diary, and that confirmed it for me. The more you try to make your camcorder bullshit appear 'real' while also telling a story, the more phoney you end up making it all seem. It's like the camcorder gimmick draws attention to how fake and staged everything is. Also, the film made me feel like George A Romero had battered me about the head with a cardboard tube that had PEOPLE USE CAMERAS TO DISTANCE THEMSELVES FROM THEIR LIVES! written on the side of it in black marker pen.

Maybe the Wank review was a little too strong, though. I did like the bit where the zombie's head melted in.

A new indie horror film is coming our way with a blaxploitation edge to it. The pic is called Bloodsucka Jones, and it stars Maria Canapino. Canapino will be playing the title character's trusty (and sexy) sidekick. The movie tells the story of Dave King. He was just dumped by his girlfriend but it is okay because he meets the girl of his dreams who turns out to be a vampire. Her vampire friends and family want Dave dead but she loves him. So Dave enlists the help of Tony a bumbling wannabe vampire hunter and his favorite comic book hero Bloodsucka Jones to save the day. Wacky superbitchin' Hi Jinks ensue. The movie is set to go in front of cameras in Orange County later this month.

Also, I haven't been able to afford to take my vacation time. They make us take 40 hours if we do it, but only pay for 20. I just work through and take the unused cash as a Christmas bonus.

Next year though, I am taking vacation, even if I lose some pay for it. I'm planning on going to the Grand Canyon. Been wanting to do that for a long time.

I'm joining a gym on Monday so I can get in shape for hiking the trails.

It's also on $12 to get into the park (as it's a state park and they have low-priced set fees nationwide).

I could poossibly have gone this year, if I stayed in a tent, but a friend might go with me and would prefer a hotel room. That means I need more time to save up for it. I needed the extra time to prepare for the trails anyhow.

And Be Kind Rewind may have gotten away from him, but it grew and developed into something that is about more than just simple movie-making. It's the good parts of community and friendship. It's a quaint film to be sure, but a charming one that I have yet to be disappointed with in the numerous times I have re-visited it. Haha okay to be honest, I understand that I have substantial more love for this movie than most people. It just struck a cord with me I guess. I saw it the first time with my mom to on a trip with just her and me up the west coast to celebrate her cancer remission, so there's probably a bit of sentimental value there as well. It's no problem of mine if you don't like it, but I seriously don't think you can knock the movie for not being creative. Like what about printing the negatives of their faces so they could film the night shots? Have you ever just thought of doing that? It's clever and funny right?

But anyways all I want to say is that I am going to wait for Observe And Report when it hits $1 theaters and maybe make some sort of ven diagram between the two. See overall I snuck in some brewskies into the show which is a must do for anyone making plans to catch the PBMC. I like Kevin James I think he is genuinely funny and he seems like a really nice guy, he's just funny to laugh at and very likable. The movie is just fucking terrible I mean this really was a tour de force on James, they didn't even bother trying to make anyone else funny besides him. I mean how this money made that much money is something no one will know, its gotta be James' personality. I laughed, its stupid and silly and fun and I think about 3/4 through they gave up on an actual score and settled for a guy on a sweet Yamaha. I can't wait for OAR to hit the $1 theaters, because first off the term Observe and Report is a moto in PBMC and the two female leads look like fucking twins. This is worse then the Antz/Bugs Life debacle, its probably more like the Madagascar/The Wild mishap because both those movies were god fucking awful and only one of them were hits. See both Bugs and Antz were hits and very good. Unless OAR turns out to be the subliminal genius that I keep hearing about from that director that didn't really see in the Foot Way First (you know what its called). I enjoyed PBMC while intoxicated, its harmless fun and I want Kevin to go on and make better movies, a star was born in that garbage but at least it was better then Madagascar.

I do have two questions though: 1). I wonder what the companies that turned down getting free publicity in this film think now, there is a Sharper Image plug (which may have been too little too late) but other then that and Vectroia Secret? for a mall very little stores where mentioned. 2). I wonder why there wasn't a Rob Schnider or Adam Sandler cameo in this, was that a smart decision on James' part or did neither of them think this movie was going to be worth a damn?

Diary is a wretched festering pile of wank that tries to be postmodern but fails singularly because of the fact that it's about as subtle as being booted in the nuts. Not to mention the fact that the characters in it are such fucking unbelievable douchbags.

The problem with diary is that there is only so many times you can hear various characters scream at the prick to put the camera down before you've got an irreversible urge to jam it up his ass. Especially when his mate is running away from the zombies begging him to help and he's just standing there like a spare prick at a lesbian wedding filming the fucking thing.

The parody is spot on, and some of the lines are brilliant ("Aren't you a bit fat for a storm trooper?" "Well stay here and rot then, you stuck up bitch"), but there is the dreadful extended paedo dance routine to I've had the time of my life.

Doubt is indeed good. That scene between Streep and Viola Davis is amazing. Streep gets completely acted off the screen.

Doubt was a collection of just unbelievable acting/writing. Not only is the scene with Streep and Davis an acting tour de force, but that scene in the principal's office where Streep and Adams confront Philip Seymour was just about the best thing in a movie I've seen all year.

BTW when you feel the need, i stumbled across a fierce brew called Founders Dirty Bastard Wee heavy Scottish Ale. 9% alcohol in that bad boy!

Speaking of Hellboy 2, that's on a list of movies from last year I was disappointed with that I want to revisit.

While in the hospital I also finished watching Ken Burns' "The War" docu-series. David Keith David does such a great job narrating what is easily the best footage ever put together of the war.

It seems to me, every second of that show that is not devoted to Lois Lane is like the crackly empty spaces you used to get between songs on vinyl albums. If it were up to me, I would retitle that show LOISVILLE, and every episode would involve Lois Lane doing household chores in her underwear.

I'd go The Sting over Butch and Sundance. Jaws would be in there. Raiders. Cool Hand Luke. The Naked Gun. Planes, Trains. Groundhog Day.

Requiem is awesome, but not top 10. Hell, most of those are awesome and would be around the mark. I haven't seen The Lives of Others. Not a fan of Trainspotting. I'd need to rewatch it since I saw it in high school. Fuck that was a long time ago.

Those are probably interchangable with another 25 flicks that I haven't though of.

Also, ET is not funny or scary. Aliens should either be funny (ALF) or scary (The Thing, Alien).

I decided recently that I don't think I can have a top ten list. There are a few movies that will probably always make the cut regardless of the mood I'm in (Strangelove, Raiders, ESB, BTTF) but I find that my list varies wildly depending on my current life situation and the time of year.

If I'm in the mood where I want to smash someone in the face with a shovel knocking them into a chipper, then Die Hard might make the cut. If it's a lovely spring day and my daughter gives me a hug before I drive off to the place that destroys chunks of my soul every time I walk through the door, then maybe I'll lean towards Say Anything.

It's fucking good. And also, it really doesn't go pear shaped until the last five minutes when Nolte turns into a gigantic water bubble of energy.

But the rest of the flick is awesome. I love the way it takes it's time to build and then the second hour is just an action fest of Hulk destruction.

yeah, that was a great scence, all through the eyes of one doomed paratrooper, watching over the bedlam. great scence. no, i think in general as the troops got off the carriers on the beach they didnt haul ass, or put much effort into seeking cover. also there was a lot of officers standing at the front on the beach waving their arms and going 'come on boys' while walking up the beach. again. when you are under heavy fire, and you are totally exposed and the only cover is up ahead, i rather doubt you need some redundant arsehole yelling 'come on boys' to motivate you to get up the beach, but these guys get off their transports and are just standing around. the scences were massive and impressive, but forget about training and experience, just plain common sence would suggest you take cover. what was kinda funny was i backed this one up with 'stand by me' which had corey fieldman constantly yelling 'my dad stormed the beaches at normandy!'

I've got schlock reviews to write and it's all overcast and shitty today.

I saw The Crucible a the cinema when it came out. I remember it being really good. Day Lewis was great. The moment at the end when he yells "But it's my name!" or something. Damn good. And Noni! She was at her most fuckable in that one, with the exception of Dracula.
