Whenever my folks think I'm mad for liking Pixar's goodies, I show them why. It started with Monster's, Inc. Since the movies before that keep raising the bar, every year from then I have something to be Pixar-hyped about. My peeps here told me i'm really immature. Then I made them see every Pixar movie since then. Now who's excited?

Why wait until the film is actually made? The Alamo has new technology that will beam finished films directly from the brain waves of the director! Harry, in fact, has already seen "Avatar' in a direct brain-to-brain linkup with James Cameron.
But which film must die before you show UP?
by EverythingEverywhereStinks
Apr 15th, 2009
11:43:52 AM
What cinematic classic will be symbolically destroyed before you premiere UP?

Will it be a previous Pixar release, or a previous Disney release? And if it's an old Disney release, will it be one of their animated films or a live action one?

Or maybe you and your hipster friends will go meta on us and destroy an anime from Japan!

Dammit, now I want to go just so I can see what film gets sacrificed to the fanboy gods before you show Up!

This late in the game there is no reason Pixar shouldn't be able to screen the film in 3D. Pixar pumps out only 1 film per year and thus it's 3D elements should be finalized if this film was envisioned to be a 3D film from the get go. This stinks of post produced 3D as a means to compete with Dreamworks. In all likely hood the 3D will look just as bland and uninspired as Bolt's 3D and not nearly as impressive as Monsters vs Aliens. I guess the only Real 3D experience we have to look forward to now is Avatar.

You're right why would Disney even bother making a 3D film? Obviously you haven't seen a 3D film done right...Maybe there might be some artistic merit to this whole 3D thing when virtually everyone of Hollywoods demigods (Cameron, Spielberg, and Jackson) are trying their hand at the technology. Not to mention that every studio is filling their slate with 3D projects.
Well, 3-D can't be leaked online, Swedishero

The studios are trying to generate product that can't be "experienced" easily at home. They need to give people a reason to buy tickets and go to the theater. At one time it was technicolor, and at another time it was widescreen, but those things are now available at home. I estimate that "Wolverine" lost aproximately $20 million in first weekend business due to illegal downloading. That's a million downloads at an average of $7 each plus sharing the movie with 2 friends each. For those people, the excitement of the first weekend is over. They'll be able to wait 3 months for the dvd to see the completed version. So instead of opening around $60-something million, I'm betting it opens at $40-something million. However, if the film was shot in 3-D there wouldn't be an acceptable quality bootleg to download.

swedishero, I've seen most 3D films in 3D thank you. And until a film comes along that fully gives a viewer a proper visual experience, and not random things being pointed directly into the camera. 3D is STILL not proven, the way to go.

Maybe one or two screenings a year somewhere other than Austin. I'm sure, for example, Baltimore's Senator Theater (assuming it's miraculously still around) would love to host an AICN premiere (he wrote self-servingly).

I saw the trailer for it in 3D in front of Coraline. The 3D looked very good!

Anyway if you're waiting for that bigger break in 3D, I managed to catch previews of A New Hope and The Phantom Menace in 3D at SIGGRAPH and I was blown away! Space laser wars never looked so damn awesome! Lucas will indeed deliver on that front!

I'm still processing it, and want to see it again in 3-D before making a final decision (our showing was in 2-D), but I think this could be my favorite Pixar film so far, closely followed by Toy Story 2, Wall-e, and Ratatouille.

The simple fact remains that 3D in a matter of years (prob at least 5) will exist in our own homes. Just like with HD tvs when the demand rises and prices fall 3D tvs will become the new standard for home entertainment. They've already developed TVs that you don't even need 3D glasses for. When americans realize that soon they'll be able to watch Sunday Football in 3D at home the new standard will have emerged. So I will admit that to an extent you are right. However, just like with sound and color, this is the next tool for filmmakers to use to create a completely new immersed film going experience. By that point filmmakers will have developed enough techniques creating new ways for artistic expression (like deep focus) and wont have to rely on traditional 3D gimmicks.
That sucks.

I wanted to be able to tell the Pixar gang in person how much their films have meant to me over the years. I even named my daughter after them. But I'm sure Patricia Knowles and Jay Knowles wrote fantastic entries, and didn't get seats by simple affiliation....

Don't mind me, I'm just sulking. I still love you, Harry.

"I'm giving away another 70 seats via AICN" Not true. At least 10% of those seats are on reserve for AICN family & friends. Why wouldn't you just say you have 60 tickets to give away? I notice this everytime there is a promotion for a free screening on this site.

I don't want to appear bitter toward Harry by that last post, so I just want to sum up what I meant in less sulky words.

I don't think it's fair that Harry says, "I've got fifty tickets for X event, I'm holding a contest to see who gets 'em and it's open to the public!" Because what he really means, with BNAT and situations like this UP screening, is "I've got fifty tickets for X event, I'm holding a contest to see who gets 'em and it's open to the public, but first I'm going to give ten or fifteen of my friends top priority, so really I only have forty or thirty-five tickets available to the general public!"

I'm not against Harry letting his friends in. I'd do it too. I just wish he'd subtract the seats he's giving them at these events from the general pool of available seats. Sure, Patricia might have to fill out an application like the rest of us, but does anyone really think Harry wouldn't let her in based on a poor app?

But alas, I've thought about this way too much. Sorry for the rant. I really am just bummed about missing out on seeing the Pixar guys speak. I'm considering purchasing one of those 150 dollar tickets to see the movie at their studio in Emmeryville. Sometimes my nerdiness is unfathomable.

I just saw a screening of Up today in Austin, a day before the Alamo one. I got an email and they just wanted anyone to come. The theatre wasn't packed that much and there was ALOT of kids and they loved it. My grade: 10/10. Not a flaw in the movie. I was so surprised at how good it was!! And this movie has the best use of talking animals ever in a movie!!! The adults and children were laughing their heads off at the same jokes!! How often does that happen?!?!
