Sean Maguire was funny in "Meet the Spartans"

Arguably, he and his spot-on Leonidas impression was the best thing in that movie.

I don't know, I actually thought most of the time that Maguire was on screen wasn't bad... thought he had a decent aloofness to him most of the time that was kind of funny and I liked his delivery of most of the jokes (and most of the jokes themselves were somewhat amusing)... where it really kind of lost me though was any time the main baddie was on... pretty boring there I thought, with just one or two OK moments. I'm not sure about this show yet, that's the bottom line for me... I sort of have a hunch there *could* be a decent enough show there, but I'm not certain they'll uncover it before it's canceled. Certainly never going to be great or anything, but could be amusing... I for one will give it another chance or two, but it'll be on a short leash for sure... my finger hovers over the DVR's Delete Program button, but I'm not ready to press it just yet :)

I agree. It was mildly amusing, but mostly just meandering. I'll probably forget to watch it next time. There were two laugh out loud moments. But maybe I was in a generous mood, despite my sinus headache. Tighter writing could save it, though.

I get the impression that the writers aren't fans of epic fantasy/S&S. You get the sense of an outsiders thumbing their noses at stuff they just don't get or like, unlike the incisive yet affectionate mockery and familiarity of Doc Hammer and Jackson Publick toward pulp heroics, 60's super science, 60's, 70's, and 80's comics and cartoons, post-punk and goth music, and general geeky cool fixations.

Honestly, I thought the show had some good moments, and I can see that there is a lot of potential for long-running humor once the context is set. I'll give it a few more episodes before passing judgment.
Ahhh, yeah, its pretty bad...

This may become a very guilty pleasure for me as I watched the whole thing and actually laughed a few times-- not, like, out loud, but...

Of course, I'm sick and nursing a twisted ankle, so mindless diversion was what I was after.

Yeah, if you mention Doc Hammer

and Jackson Publick.... wow that's a cruel comparison. I'm sure somebody's trying real hard with this. (I sort-of like the bad guy and his Stephen Fry's Jeeves-ish flunky)
Hmm. Maybe there IS something wrong with me.

My wife has been saying it for years, and maybe this is the proof she needs. I enjoyed this show. Found it quite hilarious even. And, I am not one to go along with the masses, so I offer my opinion with no shame at all.
