These are not necessarily good things. How about some sincerity in a movie? A film that expects you to give yourself to its world and laugh at the humor that evolves from within, rather than mocking itself at every turn? 'Random', 'self-aware', 'referential'...The last thing we need is the feature length version of Family Guy.

I'm totally looking forward to this movie, big fan of the tv show, I like Will Ferrell and Danny McBride. But these three reviews are so clearly and obviously plants. All three, in different ways, are desperately written to read as written by "regular" douchebags. The strategic misspellings gave it away.

The first 2 reviews seem to follow the same formula. I guess writing a review is as easy as "cut and paste" these days. And whenever a review states that they aren't going to reveal any spoilers, yet say how great the movie is...that's when I call shenanigans!

First time I've called plant, couldn't resist.

This movie looks terrible. While I know there have been plenty of good movies that have had deceptively bad trailers (and the opposite as well), something tells me this isn't one of them.

Exactly what I expected. I grew up watching Land Of Lost on re-runs as a kid. Now by any stretch of the means it was low budget and after all was designed for kids. Still it had some great writers on the show like DC Fontana and others from the Star Trek original series. If there were to be a movie I had hoped they would go serious and dark and really make a kick ass adventure movie. Well this is what we got a shitty fucking comedy with my least favorite comedian Will Ferrall.

I am in the camp of haters and cannot stand his movies. Just not a fan. He may be a nice guy but I don't find him funny at all. I hate this movie before I even give it a chance and even more so since it seems to be the exact type of moron he loves to play. Fucking waste of a potentially good franchise that could have had some serious writing potential with the sleestaks and dinosaurs. Oh well.

...but this does sound like it has some potential. I'm hoping my love for dinosaurs can outweigh my usual dislike for Ferrell, who I still think can muster up the funny from time to time. In a summer filled with obligatory sequels, a raunchy comedy with dinosaurs could be a pleasant treat.

First Review: "if you hate Will Ferral playing the same character in everything, don't worry, he's different and good here". Second Review: "If you love Will Ferral's regular performances, you'll love this!" That pretty much covers all bases there in an attempt to persuade both sides to watch this. Personally I hate most of his performances. Other than Stranger than Fiction, he displays no range, playing the same character in everything. His much praised improv is incredibly obvious and lacks any real wit. Him being in this is enough to put me off

re: 'walrusholder' above, you're absolutely right. If these fucking arseholes really believe that lines like "I will be doing bong hits and watching this DVD on repeat for years" are the kind of remarks that will make us go out and watch this crap, then it says everything about what these studios think of us as an audience.

The worst thing is, even these fake reviews are so badly written, (in the sense that they only convince readers of a two-figure IQ) not only is it insulting to us, but I honestly think any one of us would make a more convincing 'fake reviewer' if we sat down for 20 minutes with a word processor.

This pitiful standard of viral marketing implies a terrible standard of employee right throughout the studio system. And if you ever doubt that, just look at how much cow dung Hollywood shits in our direction every month.

The reason this show is remembered so fondly is for how scary it was to its primary audience at the time. I'm bummed they don't have original "dad and two kids with no mom" family structure, that was a clue to the kiddies in the audience that this was pretty serious themed stuff. The fact that the show looks ridiculous now is funny, but it's largely missing the point of why the show is so loved. A bit less ha-hah, a bit more high stakes please to bring back that old "holy crap!" feeling, and I'd be on board. Oh yeah, the LOTL is a very mysterious place with all kinds of puzzles left behind by the original Sleestak that built it (I feel like the Dharma hatches on LOST are a slight nod to the Pylons in LOTL), so I hope they left a bit of that intact. Oh hell, this will be OK as a Dodge Ball yukfest but something very precious (and even franchise-making) about the (memory of) the source material will be, er, lost. They mostly just went for the easy laughs in the premise. Duhhhh. Oh, and if Holly bangs boots with Will Ferrel or the other guy it will still feel uber-creepy since my brain still thinks of them all as related! Please no! That will get lots of squirms and groans from the 35+ crowd and not in a good way.

Why would they make a movie geared towards kids based on a TV show that only adults know about? Not just adults either, but two different generations of adults, who grew up on the original show and the 90s remake. The show is not shown in reruns now so it's not like kids today are watching it. Obviously it's not a movie for kids.

If these reviewers are plants, they really have no idea what will get my bo-po in the theatre. The line, "I will be doing bong hits and watching this DVD on repeat for years" is, in fact, the anti-make-me-see-movie thing to write. And I even like stoner films, but to say, "I will watch this movie at home while under the hazy influence of controlled substances" does not in my mind equal "This is a good movie you should see in the cinemas before it's gone." For crying out loud, you stupid choad whore, that was just a stupid thing to write.

I watched this show all the time as a kid. It was my ideal show—dinosaurs, lizard men, sci-fi stuff glaore, and special effects. That doesn't mean I wanted the movie to be turned into "The Dark Knight" and taken super-seriously. I could have handled a tongue-in-cheek film. But this just sounds stupid.

Stupid.

That's all fine and dandy, except you're overlooking something: They're PURPOSELY written like that, in order to seem as if "Joe Public sees these movies and wants to share their opinon." Those so-called "reviews" were CLEARLY written by studio plants, and the wording was carefully chosen. Notice, for instance, that with a huge list of people calling them out for being plants, not one of them has corrected anyone. If they were, in fact, just readers of this site, they'd have been checking to see if their reviews had been posted--and, more importantly, what people had to say about them. Seeing the overwhelimgly negative reaction to them, they would have defended themselves. They haven't--because they're plants.

As for the idea that "AICN should edit these things for basic grammar and clarity," AICN doesn't do that with its OWN articles--why the heck would it do so with those submitted by studio plants?

by whitty
Mar 27th, 2009
12:50:51 PM
...is that the studio miscalculated with these plant reviews, which were so BADLY done. Pretty much no one--except for those running AICN--fell for it. And I'm sure the studio suits are scratching their heads right now, trying to figure out how it backfired. Well, here's why, studio suits: because you have NO idea what the average moviegoer wants to see, let alone how they express themselves. Yes, the people who run AICN are poor writers, but if the reviews submitted from the outside come off as disingenuine, readers can spot them as plants from a mile away. Hire someone competent to write your plant reviews.

...you honestly think this indicates a plant? Have you not read the "real" reviews that are regularly featured on this site? This is something Harry would write in headline, for fuck's sake. I think it's hilarious that a site that where the founder uses oral sex metaphors (Blade 2 review, anyone?) would question a reviewer's evaluation just because he measures the film's merit based on bong hits. And the issue of bad grammar--yes, it's unprofessional. Yes, it is distracting. But, this is Ain't It Bad Grammar News, people! What, now we're criticizing how bad articles are written? Again, take a look at what the "professional" "real" reviews look like on here...

Nope, the bong hit thing isn't what told me they were plant reviews, it was just an overwhelming feeling in my brain whilst I read them. they covered all this ground, tried to be hip but did it poorly, didn't even have an accidental spoiler in there that they misse. It all was designed to read like a 23 year old guy from Modesto wrote it. But the dialogue came off as false as an episode of Dawsons Creek.

Still the 3 interviews together... each one getting increasingly detailed, and increasingly accurate about actors names, character names etc... I dunno.

not Shakespeare / was meant for kids / etc." argument rears it's lame, ubiquitous head in this thread. It may look cheesy by today's standards, but the original had some sophisticated concepts created by top scifi writers, and a palpable, creepy/fearful ambience; the characters were constantly fleeing to their claustrophobic, exposed cave-shelter, (the T-Rex would snap it's jaws at the cave mouth). The property just needed the right screenwriter to help it realize it's full potential, not have someone take the easy route of silly mockery.

Ok, first I only used 2 exclamation points. Second your line wasn't that great, but if you insist.

IN MY EARLIER POST I USED A THROWAWAY LINE BY CAN'T_STOP_YAWNING. HE'S PROBABLY NEVER COME UP WITH A FUNNY LINE LIKE THAT IN HIS LIFE, SO HE GETS QUITE UPSET WHEN SOMEONE STEALS IT OFF HAND IN A MEANINGLESS TALKBACK ON AICN!!!!! I'M SORRY!!!! ALL BOW TO THE NEW GOD OF HUMOR... CAN'T STOP_YAWNING!!!! Hmmm... Too Many exclamation points?

Way to go, Hollywood Hacks. Throw in sub-ironic dick and shit jokes to appease a bunch of young morons. And sorry, "quit being such an asshole, Chaka!" is STUPID and reveals exactly the level of "humor" the film revels in. The problem is these comic geniuses are surrounded by talentless yes-men who will guffaw whenever Ferrel makes his boring patented sotto-voce bewilderment or laugh at McBride playing the same hillbilly part he can only play...toss in hack screenwriters who get their comedic inspiration from youtube and you have a total waste of time and money. Sid and Marty Kroft will be ashamed. And the kids only disappointed. Oh, and I really like your new PLANTS.

1) That they're "long time readers, first time posters, LOOOOOVE the site".

2) That they were walking along, minding their own business, when all of a sudden -- they're force-handed freebie tickets and whisked into a screening, after which they sit at home wondering, " So I've just seen this flick and am dying to share my experience with someone online. Oh, what to do? I know! I'll finally register a username on that site, AICN, which I've been lurking on for years without posting, just so I can share my mind-blowing Land Of The Lost experience. Because, like, there has literally been no other reason for me to open my maggot-infested gob on this site in the past. Land Of The Lost has CHANGED me in this way."

Fuck each and every one of you soulless, cretinous, troglodytic fucktards with a purple, 11-inch, glow-in-the-dark rubber dick.

I'm disappointed that Land of the Lost is going to be a comedy. I'd much prefer to see a mature take on the Land of the Lost concept. I love the old TV show for it's sci-fi underpinnings and melodrama, not the goofiness that occasionally crept in. If you're interested in Land of the Lost, you might want to visit my fan site with coverage of both versions of the TV series and the latest news on the upcoming movie. http://personal.linkline.com/e nik1138/
Watch "Kings" on NBC

If these guys are going to waste our time with planted marketing, I'm going to throw my two cents in. I checked out "Kings" on NBC last on Brooklyn Time Warner cable channel "Prime Time On-Demand." Anyway, it's a cool concept, fantasy alternate reality where basically the US is a monarchy and the president is Swearengen from Deadwood (Ian McShane in his best performance since the brilliant HBO anti-hit series.) Anyway, if we're going to shill here, I'm going to shill something worth watching.

Thanks for the info.. after reading this I realized that they just had a test screening a few days ago!! This thing isn't done yet (sfx, music) and it's supposed to be in theatres JUNE 5th!! Whenever I hear a film isn't going to be finished until a few weeks before release..always a bad sign. Rush jobs do not end well.
