Want to hear Giacchino's Star Trek Score?
by Admiral Nelson
Mar 25th, 2009
11:52:14 AM
Or at least a small piece of it? Then go to www.startrekmovie.com, and click on "Enter the Site." The music that plays under this page is supposedly a Giacchino theme that recurs throughout the film, according to sources at Film Score Monthly. (And note: NONE of the trailers released so far feature Giacchino's music.)

But yes, Tyler's music from Children of Dune is definitely used in one of the Trek trailers. I don't know which one. Does it matter? Anyway, it is blatantly obvious to anyone who actually has, you know, EARS that it is Tyler's music. The people who claimed it wasn't Tyler's music are likely die hard Lost fanatics throwing themselves on the wire for their beloved Giacchino. They're also fucking idiots, which strangely enough has a large correlation with the Lost fan base.
Freedom Fighters

Once and for all, the music from the third trailer is: "Freedom Fighters (Choir)" by Niles Iver (Two Steps From Hell". It's available on their LEGEND album. You can find it from reputable sources i.e. buy it, or use Soulseek.

by The_Genteel_Gentile
Mar 25th, 2009
12:37:59 PM
Just as MaxThrust has already stated, let their br no more confusion. The music from the third trailer is "Freedom Fighters (Choir) "From the custom trailer music outfit Two Steps From Hell, off of their promo album Legend. "Down With The Enterprise" (the embellished reorchestration of Brian Tyler's COD "War Begins" from the 2nd trailer) is on the second disc of the 2cd promo version of the Legend album from Two Steps From Hell. None of this music is available for purchase thus far, although plans are apparently underway for a compilation of Two Steps From Hell custom trailer music to have a commercial realise sometime in the future. Now please let the speculation end, there is no Buffy music, or Giacchino score used on the trailers.
Funny thing is, Brian Tyler isn't all that great
by Rickey Henderson
Mar 25th, 2009
12:39:49 PM
The Children of Dune soundtrack has got to be the most overrated musical score ever. It's the same basic theme repeated over and over. Can we stop paying lip service to this already? Whoever the composer was who did the score to the third trailer was pretty good however. Was it Giacchino? Or Jablonsky? (that would be funny).
Here's What Matters...
by IKnowStuff
Mar 25th, 2009
12:42:51 PM
Brian Tyler and Two Steps From Hell both got paid lots of money for their music (TSFH obviously got paid more, as they have music in both trailers.) So it doesn't matter if TSFH's website indicates the proper composer, because the folks over at Paramount know what's up, the composers have been paid, and everything is under control. And likely the only people who will be able to afford licensing the track will be a major studio, and Nick [Phoenix] is not going to take credit for the writing the cue, when someone expresses interest in licensing the track. When I was originally curious about the article, it was not about trailer 2 or trailer 3, it was if JJ actually approached Tyler to come up with a new score for Star Trek - which is not the case at all. Issue settled.

In Rickey's opinion, posts like this only serve to further marginalize AICN. You think the public at large or rest of the film industry gives a damn about which B-list composer did a 30 second score for a movie trailer? They do not. No one does. It seems to Rickey like the only purpose of recanting this story is to highlight the minor connections AICN has left in the film industry. You want to impress Rickey? Come up with a decent scoop.

Why not use Star Trek music?
by wilbur gray
Mar 25th, 2009
01:24:27 PM
Paramount has a library of Star Trek music to choose from, and they use Tyler's Dune music in the trailer?I remember seeing the Undiscovered Country teaser with Goldsmith's Lt.Ilia theme from ST:TMP accompanying the visuals.Goldsmith's music wasn't in the final film, but it worked because fans recognized it and became stoked for another chapter.Reminds me of last summer when the first Crystal Skull trailer came out with music from none of the previous fims, except the Raiders march at the end.

1. Merrick screwed up an article. 2. In the course of fixing his mistake, it became apparent that there was a dispute over who wrote the music. 3. The article was pulled until AICN could figure it out. 4. Turns out, both composers had a hand in the music, and neither credited the other for their part. 5. Now it is fixed. The end.

Fair enough, I guess some folks do give a toss about this sort of thing. Personally I don't, I just care about the finished article. it doesn't mean that I'm not a film fan because I don't care to have an encyclopedic knowledge of what the make up artists do in their spare time. Anyway that's beside the point.

The point is, this is a minor issue and if anything was posted it should jus thave been a retraction.

To me this site makes far bigger mistakes when it gives glowing reviews to films that don't deserve it. Where are the retractions for the articles that encourage people to waste their money on bad movies?!

I agree with you Lloytron

I think the article could definitely use some tightening up, and I think the best course of action would have just been to keep the Talkback and erase the story leaving it with an "Will be Updated Soon" message (since leaving the story up until an update wouldn't suffice, not knowing when they'd get the info they required).

My main interest was why people had their histories erased, but its always good to get the correct information on trailer music (makes it easier to download that way).

And PS, you'll NEVER find retractions like that. Actually, I don't think you'll ever find a retraction from Harry, period.

Yeah, same thing happened to me back in the day, in another life. Completely wiped from existence on AICN. Believe it or not, it was for being polite! Can't prove it seeing as how it's all been deleted now. "Someone" was harboring much resentment for certain truths that had exposed them months earlier, and bided their time until they could manufacture a reason. Said person, actually dug up the months prior old post, reposted it, called me a hypocrate for trying to be civil, and faintly threatened me with expulsion if I said another word. I went on to actually apologise because the previous post in question was done in a mock vulgar fashion sarcastically parodying it's intended targets juvenile and obscene jornalistic methods. I don't think I need to say who it was, you can probably guess. But his activity was totally bogus, and very frustrating at the time, especially because reregestration wasn't possible for a good long time afterwards. I've just recently started back up here, so I'm not gonna pick a fight I can't win by saying more specifics on what power mad writer is running amuck at AICN with a wicked case of inferiority complex and a delete happy finger. I mean I'd just get banned at some random future date for no reason. I think anyone who reads this site on a regular basis knows the swine in question. So yeah, I know what you're saying. That's that incredibly powerful piece of music in the TREK trailer that perfectly depicts such a dilemma...

At first you're thinking "Holy crap, she's 300 lbs...NO ONE can do this! It would take at least two guys..."

But THEN...you start to get the hang of it...it's all in the rhythm...it's working...IT'S WORKING!

IT'S ALMOST DONE! The choir powerfully kicks in...YOU'RE ALMOST THERE! Yes! You've done it...YOU'VE DONE IT! You've fucked a fat chick!

You're a hero, now, farmboy.

This article is so unnecessary.

the music in the 3rd trailer has many similar tunes to Hans Zimmer's track "Journey to the Line" from the Thin Red Line. But I'm sure they've pulled cues from everywhere, like everyone else has said before me.

All of this talk about the music in a Star trek movie trailer is too funny. I listened to the music on Two Steps From Hell and the War Begins from Children of Dune. I could hear the similarities in the War Begins and the Star Trek trailer. Didn't hear the similarities in the featured music on Devil Wears Nada though. Someone made a comment about the music sounding similar to Batman Begins and I would say part of it sounds similar but it varies from it slightly. I am looking forward to this new Trek movie.

Five to seven years from now, this whole "Brian Tyler's JJ Abrams' Star Trek Trailer #2 Temp Score: The Movie!" will be reimagined by whoever the current hot and trendy, no talent Hollywood golden boy will be, and we'll forget just how stupid and fake looking this current dust up over the temp score is. When it gets reimagined, we'll all be asking ourselves why we cared about it now. Remember, it won't be your daddy's Temp Score for the trailer when they reimagine it! I just hope Bob Orci and Alex Kurtzman are the writers so there's a TON of continuity!

...for a multi million dollar film to record some original score.

Trek has over 30 years of music to temp to it's films. Magical Scores written by James Horner, Jerry Goldsmith, Leonard Rosenman (fuck didn't that one stink of shit) Cliff Eidelman (Who the fuck are you man?) and even Alexander courage's original trek theme. This is an original trek movie, isn't it?

Is it possible to call this trek an 'original' film? boggles the mind.

I love star ships. & planes too.

Well Genteel, I'll try and keep it on the downlow, but I was part of that talkback too, and I didn't say anything insulting either. And I was banned as well! I came back the next morning to see if said editor and you kept at it, and I realized your posts had disappeared. Then I realized mine had too. I got pissed, emailed said editor, and he said he didn't ban us but basically "tough shit" and that we deserved it.

So I emailed Moriarty instead and after a few weeks he got back to me and reinstated my TB handle. But at the time, I was pissed bc I couldn't re-register either.

But I saved that entire debacle bc I was railing against said editor on another site because of it. And I made sure to mention how you didn't so anything wrong, yet the editor brought up some comments you had made months ago like he was holding a grudge.

And Bender, I vaguely remember the Ringbearer saga. Could you help refresh my memory?

I've never seen anybody banned from aicn that didn't make the place better by their absence. I'm sure you all felt unjustly put upon; but it's EASY to not get banned. Just don't act nuts. Most of us never do, and it works fine.

I wish you could have read it man, I was being totally "geneel" and "gentile" (as opposed to the oposite of those things). If it all weren't erased, I'd say look it up and tell me I wasn't one of the more polite guys, willing to fully explain myself in civil discourse. In this case the editor was the one acting "nuts".

Oh man, it's all coming back to me now! You came on and said it was pretty crazy for the editor to bring up some stuff from months prior and threaten to drop the big ban or something, and then editor said something like "Yeah, D. Vader, that's exactly how I put it!" or something. I go on to even apologise to the editor and try to explain why I had made such a remark and that I felt it was indead too harsh and that I took no pride in it. Next thing I know you, me and another guy were all deleted. Crazy, I totally remember you coming to my defense, so thanks man. Sorry you took some of the shrapnel from a bomb meant for me, that really is messed up. I recall e-mailing Harry asking if someone could review that situation, but I never got a response one way or another. Ah well...good times!

Yeah that was me. I was defending you bc you asked if someone's post had been deleted, and the editor said basically "yes it had" and that if you disagreed with him you were fucked in the head.

After some back and forth between you two, he said you'd be wise to move along- which I perceived as a threat- is there any other way to interpret that statement? So yeah, I said "oh no, here comes to ban hammer," which then prompted the response you quoted up there.

I still don't understand why I was deleted, but in the email, said editor said we all deserved it- me especially bc I was getting involved in something about whose history I knew nothing about? Or some bullshit like that. It was all pretty stupid. As you said, you were polite the entire time. It was the editor who was holding a grudge due to an (angry) post you made MONTHS before.

I'm sorry you didn't get a response. You should have tried Mori.

When I saw you and I were banned, I assumed you must have said something wrong, but I'm sure you didn't. That editor just had an itchy trigger finger.

It was the censoring of "Harry Bolzonnia" that triggered the whole thing. I'm not sure now if it was just one post that was deleated or if he got banned also. As I recall he said something like: "I almost wish it would have been Lucas rather than Winston", implying that because Winston still had digity and cared about making quality work instead of exploiting and patronizing the memories and good will of children of the 70's and 80's for purly monetary gain, it made it all the more heartbreaking. Because Winston still respected the art and the fans. At least that's what I understood it to mean, but he was immidiately deleated. When I asked what had just happened (?), "editor" said the guy had wished death on Lucas and anybody that thinks that's okay is "fucked in the head". I replyed that that was a fairley harsh response toward my question, that I don't think that was the point of the post, and that even if it were - why would it be forbidden to say such a thing when people have made their entire reputation on AICN for wishing death and forced sodemy on Michael Bay (why were they never censored? I thought it was a legitimite question.)? The "Editor" then called me a hypocrate and out of no where brang up some out of context rude quote from months prior, that was actually lampooning said "Editors" own vularous slander, and made a vage threat that I should basically not say another word. No yeah, I did the only thing I could do, which was apolgise to the "editor", not out of fear but because he obviously took it to heart and had been offended (I take no pride in making another person feel bad, that's really not my style at all and either was that rude post). And that was the last that I addressed him. There where some other instigators trying to fan the flames but I told them in no uncertain terms that I would not be a party to that and that as far as I was concerned any beef between the two of us had been squashed. I remenmber you where the only hero to emerge and say hold on this guy's not persuing anything, why is being threatened with the "ban hammer". Thanks again for being an advocate when others were clearly salavating for blood. You were the lone person to have enough backbone and integrity to see the situation with clear eyes and ask why, instead of trying to pile on and goat some kind of war of words. So thanks again, I really do appreciate that noble act. Then, all of a sudden I refresh the page and I'm a ghost.
