A fitting end

I've been a MSTie for about nine years, ever since that day in my dorm room when my roommate and his pals brought in a tape of "The Ring of Terror"; I laughed for the whole 90 minutes. I'm very sorry to see the show go. It has brought a lot of joy and a lot of friends into my life. But it sounds like the Brains will be leaving us on a high note, and that's about all we can ask for. Ten years for a puppet show is a long time, and they made every minute hilarious. Thanks to the people at Best Brains, Inc. for all the laughs.

Sounds like a good ending to a great show. In a way, I hope they don't continue it, and in another way, I do...but ten seasons is a good run for any show (except one starring Adam Sandler or Pauly Shore--ten seasons is eleven too many). It's been a fun ride. Sam

Not to be a total geek about it or anything (after all, I only 'discovered' MST3K around 3 years or so ago when it was on Comedy Central) I'm really going to miss this show. It was the smartest, funniest thing on TV and, quite frankly, a blast to watch after partaking in some natural herbal supplements. MST3K kept me sane and made me think, looking up obscure references and movies. Thanks to the Best Brains crew for a few short years of entertainment. Now I just want to know... is there any chance of syndication? Maybe FX or WB needs some filler material? PLEEEEEEEZZZEEE ??

I am filled with an intense loathing for the Scifi channel at this point. My pulse is slowing, and I can feel a gorge rising. How could those ignorant bastards cancel Mike, Tom, Servo, and gypsy? Vengeance will be mine. Helpy will help Scifi to a helping of destruction. In the name of Torgo, Scifi will fall.

When a show that you like gets caned and that has lasted this long. I have been a fan of the show when I was nine years old, but I never watch a complete season that is because I forget the show was on or when I did I saw the last segment of the show. That was when it was on the Comdey Centel and that was the same with Sif Channel. Good bye, Minarvia

I've been a loyal, diehard fan of MST3K since it premiered on Comedy Central (or Ha! or The Comedy Channel...you know what I mean). Wow. Has it been ten years? I was in eighth grade when the show debuted on cable. Where does the time go? I can't believe the show is finally over. Noooo!!! There are so many other bad movies out there, and so many bad movies YET to be made. Who's gonna hold my hand and guide me through 'em? For instance, I'd NEVER watch BRIDE OF THE MONSTER, EEGAH!, MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE, THE BRAIN THAT WOULDN'T DIE, JACK FROST, etc. without Joel/Mike & the 'Bots. Well, all good things must come to an end. I knew this was the final season, I just didn't want to believe it. Godspeed, Mike, Crow, and Servo.

God, I'm gonna miss this show!! Too bad the Sci-fi channel canceled it at it's peak. Some of the episodes of season 10 were without a doubt the best since Joel left. The show had finally adjusted to the switch of networks and casting changes following Dr. Forrester's departure. May Sci-fi and Bonnie Hammer be forced to watch Horrors of Spider Island for eternity!! oh well, I'll always have memories of servo, crow, torgo, rowsdower and the rest. thanks a lot guys!!!

Can anyone tell me why MST3k is ending it's run?? It's still one of the funniest shows on telivision. In an age where pseudodramas and would be comedies dominate the air waves, MST3k is one of those rare shows that stands out. Too bad those idiots at the Sci-Fi channel won't put in the time to promote the show and give it a reasonable time slot. Too busy pettling the horrificly never ending series Sliders and reruns of the Incredible Hulk right? I just pray that Sci-Fi will at least air reruns of MST3k regularly in thier schedule. I'd rather spend two hours watching that than Candyman 2 or some crap like that.

MST3k will be missed. I came in on the show rather late, really (seeing an episode on MTV of all the places, and then following the repeats when they aired at two in the morning on a local station), but I have loved it. I went to the last convention and watched Mike blow away all competitors at Doom. I bought the book. I saw the movie at a special midnight showing (before the con). I

How much could MST have possibly cost to run? Less than a lot of the crap they seem intent on filling their time with. Would that we could set up a subscription service - one new episode a month, mailed to your home for a fixed rate a year. You new kids will start to find out that there is nothing to fill the MST-shaped hole. Buy the tapes, join the information club, write people, write Sci-Fi! Damn.

It's demographics. You see, in the new order of the Sci-Fi channel, Sf shows of interest like MST3k have to give way to bloated, over priced repeats of crap purchased to run on USA, or badly done "original" movies or "new" series that stink (like "First Wave"). It's a niche version of USA instead of it's original intent: a cable chanel devoted to all things SF. Notice the lack of cult series lately? It's no accident. The current junta in power want a redressed USA Net. The only thing that will stop them is if nobody watches. But you never know about MST3k - this show has more lives that Sliders and it wouldn't surprise me at all to see it rise from the grave yet again. http://www.backstage-pass.com

MST3K got me through some rough times in the early nineties when the only thing I could look forward to on thanksgiving was the marathon. Is there anything more bastardly than what SciFi has done? I had heard about MST3000 for years, but my cable company didn't carry Comedy Central. I finally got Comedy Central right after it got canned and went to SciFi, but of course I didn't have SciFi. Well, I finally get SciFi, I get about a season and a half of episodes, and they can its ass. Fucking bastards. Now I have absolutely no fucking reason to watch SciFi ever again. And by the way, did SciFi ever advertise that show at all in the last year? I never saw it. Seems to me they didn't want anybody to watch it.

Cyberfunk, unfortunately you missed the Joel appearance. Which was a non-entity anyhoo; he showed up to make some repairs, didnt crack any jokes, then moved on. I hope all the cast and crew from the series land on their feet (I would hate to see Tom or Crow stuck doing only infomercials or pornos to pay the rent...). However, I still stick by my opinion that Turner should get the rights to do a new MST3K series for either TBS at midnight Saturdays or a 1/2 hour series for Cartoon Network to make fun of some of those really crappy cartoons they have on (Mystery Saturday Morning Theatre 3000, perhaps?).

Yeah...there goes pretty much the only reason I'm still watching TV at all, these days. It's MST3K, Crusade (which I'm watching more out of sheer bloody-mindedness than anything else) and Futurama. That's all I go out of my way at all to watch. (Well, I'm enjoying Farscape too, so I'll probably keep Sci Fi around just a bit longer.) At least they're rerunning their old episodes (when they aren't pre-empting them for, I'm quite serious, an Alien Nation marathon, of all things). Wish they (or someone) would acquire the broadcast rights for the old Comedy Central episodes, about 90% of which I've never been able to see. Ah well, there are always the Rhino videos. Oh...my theory as to why Sci Fi is dropping it...they were afraid of 'The Best of Sliders' showing up as the latest MST3K episode.

As someone who hasn't caught MSTK3 regularly since his lazy dayz in Austin, I really thought they were gone after Comedy canned them. I don't even think most cable ops around here even carry the SciFi Channel, but since I don't have cable, I wouldn't know. I think that as far as supply of dumb movies goes, there will never be an end. Too bad MSTK3 won't be around to inflate them with some entertainment value.-GL-

Did anyone happen to catch "Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell" a few months back on Sci-Fi? At 9:00 on a Saturday, fer God's sake! A movie that was *ON* MST3K being used as filler. Maybe the real reason Sci-Fi is cancelling MST is that they've realized how crappy most of their movies and shows are, and they don't want anything on that comes across as intelligent or clever.

I don't think SciFi chose to cancel Sliders out of spite - I didn't get into Sliders until it was resurrected on SF. But when the McDonnell brothers left, I think that spelled the end of the show - after the last original character left (maybe Renny is an original), how could a show truly continue? Anyone know WHY the brothers left? $$ dispute, or Jerry just getting tired of the show? i know my mom willbe sad - she's been watching the show since day 1.

Although I posted yesterday, I thought I'd wax nostalgic a bit on probably my all-time favorite episode of MST3K, the immortal POD PEOPLE. I saw this show the first time it premiered (like I said, I was there from day one), and couldn't believe how funny this one was. Unfortunately, my VCR was on the fritz at the time, but luckily, a few years later, Rhino released it on tape. This inept ripoff of E.T. involves a boy with a high-pitched voice, a bizarre pre-ALF alien with a long snout, a horrible "rock band," and cheesy special effects. In other words, a perfect combination for a memorable episode. Crow's response to a hunter furiously beating an alien egg with a stick, "What is he, an L.A. cop?" gets me every time, as does Servo's Ringo remark when a truly horrible song comes on the soundtrack. But what really makes this episode work is the host segments in between the movie, the best being the "Burning Rubber Tires" song that Joel and the 'Bots parody from a sound-alike song in the movie. I can't really describe it here; you'd have to see the show to do it justice. "Good? He's the best!" says TV'S Frank, proudly wearing a T-shirt that says I'M A VIRGIN that a character in the movie actually wears. Here's another line I just thought of that gets me every time: when one of the characters in the movie says something about camp (as in camping out), Servo says "You dress like Oscar Wilde, and I'll sing Noel Coward songs." Funny, funny stuff. I sincerely hope that TNT or some other cable station picks up these classic reruns of MST3K. The last time the show was in syndication was during the 1995 season, in which it was called THE MST3K HOUR, basically dividing up a two-hour show, and airing it once a week (usually in a graveyard time slot--where I live, it used to come on at 1:00 on a Sunday morning). The only downer was you had to wait a whole week to see the second half of the episode. The show kind of loses its flow when viewed like this. It must be seen in its original, uncut format. Yeah, those commercials on Sci-Fi are lame. "All shows must get cancelled," or some shit like that is the tagline. It's as if the station is subliminally saying to the viewer, "Don't worry. This show will be off our airwaves within two weeks. Then we could go back and start showing horribly edited movies and endless re-broadcasts of DUNE." I always said there were only TWO extremely well-written shows on TV that were always fresh and funny: MST3K and THE SIMPSONS (which also celebrates its tenth anniversary as a half-hour sitcom this year). That's the mark of a great show: when you could watch it and not notice ten years has gone by.
MST3K gone before 2K
by JackStar

SciFi has dumped most of the more fannish output it was doing, and as gone slightly, stress upscale, thus explaining the more original series, and why they have pretty much given up on the news and forum shows, which weren't half bad, and except for critics trying to convince us DS9 was the best Trek, weren't that fanboy. MST3K could have limped along for a while longer. TV shows get more expensive the longer they stay on, but I doubt it was getting prohibitively expensive. And as for them cancelling Sliders, well, the show sucked on Fox in the beginning, sucked on SciFi after they tried to give it a spine, and sucked after the O'Connel brothers left. Some decent acting, yes, but the story line never grabbed me, and the only reason why I would support the shows' continued exitence is to know that Kari Wurher is getting work. ( I have my priorities, what can I say?) Plus, has anyone seen Cube? That drawn out piece of crap was a huge event? Supposedly, USA Networks is making some major steps to up the ratings of all its properites, and the glossier projects are what's going to do it for them. So out goes the not particularly vital MST3K and the soporific Sliders. Too bad they aren't having second broadcasts of G vs.E on SciFi, and showing reruns of Dr.Who or something instead of that crappy C-Net show on weekend mornings.

'Pod People' is a true classic...the first episode I ever saw (in the syndicated format), and still very nearly my absolute favorite. (Though the more recent 'Jack Frost' comes very close to edging it out.) As for the commercials...the first thing that sprung to mind was that they were parodying/ripping off the DS9 finale promos. (Which they fairly obviously are.) But it's in pretty poor taste, I'll admit. (And I don't see them crowing, pardon the pun, about the cancellation of Sliders...in fact, they're promoting the already-doomed show more than ever). Muttermuttermutter...

I never thought the end of a puppet show would make me so depressed. But MST3K wasn't just a "small town puppet show" like BBI always claimed. The SciFi channel is a waste. I have no problem with them running reruns of shows like "the Hulk" and "Alien Nation." Its good that these series have the chance to be seen. They carry a built audience for the network. I've been outraged however, by the way MST3K has been treated. There has been no promotion for the show at all, the show gets moved to a new timeslot every couple of months and now as a final insult, its had its Sunday broadcast eliminated. Season 10 has been the strongest of the post Comedy Central era. The movie lineup has been diverse and the writing sharp. "The Girl with the Gold Boots" ranks alongside "Mitchell"(hmmm, wonder where I stole my handle?) and "Gamera vs Gaos." Speaking of Comedy Central, couldn't they use MST3K again on their lineup? What do they have endless airings of "the Daily Show" and "Win Ben Stein's Money?" Mst3k was also a show I could sit and watch with my 7 year old son. In a couple weeks we'll gather round the ol' picture box to say goodbye to Mike and the 'bots. I'll tell him about Joel, and Dr.F, Tv's Frank, Jack Perkins and all the rest. Hikeeba to 'ya boys! Trace Beaulieu, the original voice of Crow (he also played Dr. Clayton Forrester) has been writing for the revamped America's Funniest Home Videos ever since he left MST3K. His writing skills are a good match with the show, and you can always tell which zingers are his when viewing the clips. Sharp comedy writing will always be in demand. To think they'd cancel this wonderful show, MST3K. As an above poster noted, the movies that this cannel has prduced could easily wind up there. My personal favorite was the Manos: Hands of Fate episode, which absolutely has to be the worst film I have ever seen. MST3K needs to put each and every episode on tape, like Star Trek has. Believe me, I'll buy them. I guess the fact that a show is two hours long just filled up the syndication possibilities - as if we needed to see another rerun of Manimal or Automan.

Luckily for all of us ( at least all of us who have taped the show and / or have purchased the Rhino videos ( long may they continue being released! ) MST3K is one of a very limited number of shows that actually gets better with repeated viewings of each episode ( the only other show that immediately comes to mind that compares is THE SIMPSONS ). The Sci Fi Channel-- or "Sci Fi" as they now insist on calling themselves ( what, was The Sci Fi CHANNEL too many syllables for the drooling microcephalic fanboys that constitute its core audience to pronounce? ) has been on a downward spiral since it cancelled Sci Fi Buzz, leaving the channel without its most original presence, Harlan Ellison. Now with MST gone, it has nothing whatsoever but sound and fury, signifying NOTHING. Then again, should any of us expected anything else from a channel owned by the USA Network? When Sci Fi president Barry Diller ( I believe it was Diller ) was at the second MST3K convention in conjunction with The Sci Fi Channel picking the series up, he waxed nostalgic about coming across an MST episode riffing QUEEN OF OUTER SPACE-- an episode they NEVER used. I turned to the attractive young lady I was sitting next to and both of us said "Uh oh."

...a Variety ad ran last month. The folks over at Satellite News raised the money and ran the ad on June 18th. Read about it here: http://www.mst3kinfo.com/satne ws/saveshow.html. BTW, jumping on the "best ep" bandwagon here, my vote is for "Warrior of the Lost World". Persis Kimbata, Donald Pleasance, Richard Roundtree, a Jimmy Carter look-a-like, that "Paper Chase" guy and ***Megaweapon***!!! Any ep that includes a riff where they reference "Mad Max" and "The Philadelphia Story" in the same sentence has to be one of the best! One final thought: it's heartening, at least, to see a TalkBack with no flames, no tirades, no animosity of any kind. Just a genuine tribute to one of the greatest TV shows of all time.

Such a good show, such a waste of letting it go. They really didn't give it the support the show should have had. No commercials really, no good time slots, not enough airings. The show doesn't cost that much, right? So there isn't any loss of money here is there? If it were not for Farscape, The cool design of the timeslots and the annual Anime Week (Are they going to have that this year?) and of course the Anime movies (Horrible timeslot there as well), then the Sci-Fi channel is useless.

This is the first time I've ever seen a very lengthy list of Talkback messages without a single dissident voice. This goes to show how the only people who don't like MST3K are the ones who haven't seen it yet. Incidentally, there is one other good thing on SciFi--the reruns of scifi shows from the early days of television (Tales of Tomorrow and the like). In a brilliant programming move, they're roping in all nostalgics by airing these impossible-to-find gems from FOUR TO SIX O'CLOCK IN THE MORNING on Friday nights/Saturday mornings. If you put a thousand monkeys at a thousand powerbooks, this is the programming strategy that they'd come up with. Idiots...

Goodbye, MST3K! There has never been a television program as timeless and lovable. Sorry to the Brains, though, for not really giving Pearl a chance. Someday I'm sure I'll see the later episodes on tape (or, dvd?) and think, 'that monkey thing really was funny.' The motion picture and the old tapes will continue to make my friends and I laugh for years to come. They really do get better with repeated viewings. As a matter of fact, just the other day we got together and watched "Eegah." Good times.. (in best Bill McNeil voice). I consider myself lucky to have experienced MST3K from the start, and wish I could see every episode. I guess the subject of this message should be "KEEP RELEASING THE TAPES/DVDs". Anybody remember Cave Dwellers? For me, that is dead tied with Mitchell for best MST3K'ed. IT'S THE WANGO-zeee-TANGO!!!!! SON OF FLOGMOG, KEEPER OF THE SEVEN KEYS OF VENTULZER!!!! God, I remember seeing it for the first time. I was visiting some rels in Texas, with my parents before they were divorced. I was flipping through the channels in my cousin's room while the grownups were doing adult stuff like chatting and all that. I came across something rather odd; an old movie with strange silouettes of theatre patrons at the bottom. They weren't part of the film, mind you. Instead, it was as if I was in a theatre, with a rowdy group of three people (ok, one person and a couple of strange robots that looked to be assembled from toys and bubblegum machines) in front of me who were slinging ridicules and insults at the bad movie. Instead of being annoyed at their outbursts, I was curiously amused and taken by their insultive nature towards the debacle that was being played. I laughed with them and even threw in some of my own, as if I was the fourth man...er, droid. I was instantly hooked, like some new found drug. I couldn't get enough! That was a truly magical moment. True happiness. A few years later, my friends and I, after a hard day of janitoring, would assemble around the 20 inch TV in my friend's house and watch with childish delight as Joel, Tom, and Crow completey and utterly rip some poorly made movie into a million digestible pieces. In between laughter, we would shove pizza and coke into our faces and revel in what a great time we were having. And now it looks to be over. In tribute I think I will see Inspector Gadget and continue the legacy of laughter in my own special way. Farewell, my comedic friends. My laughter now fades into tears...

Well, I guess its time for me to pay my respects to MST3K. Aside from Mr. Show, this was the funniest show I have ever had the pleasure to view. I have fond memories of such immortal crapfests such as Mitchell(wokka chika wokka chika Mitchell..), Space Mutiny, The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living And Became Mixed-Up Zombies, Giant Spider Invasion(Packers!), Red Zone Cuba, Manos: The Hands Of Fate (Look out for snakes...) Prince of Space (We like it very much!),the list goes on. My disdain for the Sci Fi channel started when they stopped showing The Prisoner (I know there werent many episodes, but they could at least show it for a few months out of the year), they had some promise at first, but that faded within a short time. Oh well, I dont want to get all MiSTe eyed here... I hope Rhino decides to keep on crankin' out those videos. Shit....this really sucks. There are so many more bad movies out there to ridicule...what a damn shame.
I can't believe I forgot...

Are the ratings really that much better on Saturday afternoons and evenings without Mst3k This isn;t fan bitching, I'm curious is the Sci Fi channel actually doing better without the classic series, Mst3k and Sci Fi buzz? It really doesn't do much for me anymore but have these changes made the channel more profitable? I kind of hope not...... :)

How could they? Must they cancel the funniest show ever to make more room for 30 year old reruns of Star Trek? How about those cheesy made for sci fi flicks they make?? Geez, they all suck. Even a poor MST episode is funnier than 99.9% of other programming. It was patently unfair to keep moving the show around making it impossible to find. Where was the advertising budget?? Fuck 'em. So long Gypsy, Cambot, Mike, Tom, and Crow. You will be sorely missed.

About a year ago, I was ecstatic when I found a used copy of Mitchell, sans-MST3K, for like two bucks in a video store in Detroit. Tonight I will cry myself to sleep holding that little plastic rectangle. The thought of a future without MST3K is indeed unbearable.

10 years ago I was able to catch the shows first season on KTMA, and I vividly remember watching "Phase IV" and "City on Fire". I stumbled upon it one day and thought "'the hell?" KTMA had some wierd a$$ stuff on at that time, like the "New Years Eve Watermelon Drop". I watched until it dissapeared from the air and then caught up with it again on Comedy Central. I remember those years Thanksgivings as a mishmash of Pumpkin pie and Joel and the Bots. I drifted away after awhile when it moved to SciFi cuz of the limited airtimes. I was there at the beginning so I intend to watch the last(?) show. Maybe this all will result in a MST3k-like moment when we think its all over and when we get up to exit the theater, the movie starts up again, and we can sit back down and enjoy the show. ...Hamdingers?

I can see where the sci-fi channel is coming from. They need to free up the schedule so they can show more crap like Sliders and Dark Skies. Incidently, isn't Sci-Fi showing Field of Dreams tonight? Good Grief. So long MST3K, hello basic cable. Out.

MST3K died when Trace and (T.V's) Frank left the show, the later incarnation has been too painfully bad (and not the good kind of bad!) to watch. I often wonder what might have been if the show had ended with Trace and Franks departure, with the show at it's peak, thus leaving a good taste in the mouth instead of the unfortunate state it devolved into on the Sci-Fi Channel. Instead they kept pumping mud, maybe hoping some oil might still be left in a well, long since exhausted. If someone wants to really experience the magic of MST3K go find 'MASTER NINJA II', 'THE GIRL FROM LOVERS LANE', 'THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN', or the definitive short, 'POSTURE PALS'! Thanksgiving has never been the same without the Turkey Day Marathon on Comedy Central, maybe someone will have the gumption to resume this tradition and expose new generations to the best episodes of MST3K at least once a year. Keep circulating the tapes!!!

i'll give my two cents and vote for Puma Man as my favorite episode. I don't think I've ever laughed as hard as i did when I saw him fly for the first time. And Donald Pleasance could not get through his head that it was POO-MA man and not PYUMA-man. Truly a classic.

But I have to say that this show deserves a sendoff better than seinfeld got, Becouse MST 3K is a much more elaborately comedic show than the horse faced jailbait dater. we all know how, and we all know why. And dont be too quick to dis Sci-Fi, they did provide the show extra life.

Whew, thank god the Sci-Fi Channel is cancelling MST3K! Now there will be more room on the schedule for ad-naseum reruns of Star Trek V: God's Really Angry! I hope Barry Diller dies of a slow, painful disfiguring disease! Rant out of my system, I can mourn the passing of the one true original show on that whole pathetic "network". Unlike any other TV series save for The Simpsons, MST3K refused to show its age or grow tiresome, even after a decade.

How many shows can you watch with a bunch of pals for 2 hours and laugh your ass off? MST was one of the few. You know a show has a profound effect on the way you think/act when you're out in public and, without thinking, say something from the show. I can't tell you how many times I've given the OK sign and said "It stinks!" when someone asks my opinion, ala Pod People. Sure people look at you funny, but just the thought of it makes my day a little brighter. And I've had the Jet Jaguar theme stuck in my head on several occasions. It may sound kinda corny, but the show lives on in all of us. In anyone who randomly blurts out the line "Watch out for snakes!" BTW, best episodes include Pod People, Warrior of the Lost World, Gamera, A Time for Apes (Why doesn't Johnny care? LOL), and Godzilla vs. Megalon to name a few. I'll always have the tapes, but you'll still be missed, Satalite of Love! --Mr. B Natural

The first time I saw MST3K I thought it was one of the greatest shows I had seen in my short lifetime. Joel and the Bots were just too kick ass. Then they get rid of Joel. OK, I adjusted to Mike. Then the sons of bitches put it on a channel I don't even get! MST3K is like marijuana. They find out you like it, it doesn't hurt you, it makes you laugh, so they take it away. They would never do this to Wheel of Fortune. We can't let them do this again. What next? South Park? I don't even want to think about it.

I got one word for this: TYPICAL!!!!!! This does not surprise me at all. Quantity always wins out over Quality on the Boob Tube. I am distressed over this but I am not surprised. The pain is less severe than when Joel left - I refused to tape the final 15 minutes of Mitchell because it was so sad (much to the chagrin of my friends). I don't want to repeat what everyone else has said, but I feel obliged: MST has cheered me up in my most depressed times. All I have to do is fondly think back to some of my most memorable experiences watching this brilliant show and I get a little chuckle inside. I too randomly say "Watch out for snakes!" and entertain myself quietly with all the killer lines I've memorized. I have a standard "MST Conversion" tape I lend out to all my nonbeliever friends (consisting of Manos, Mitchell, and Deathstalker) and have made many a convert. How can you forget '"Manos"...you know, not in so many words', or "That's many things, but it's NOT a bird sound" .. to "Do you have any fruit to declare???" to "Hi, I'm Peter Graves, on A&E's Biography." man I could seriously go on for weeks reciting my favorite lines. OK, well that just about does it; now I can finally cancel my cable service. Anyway to all you believers out there, I'm with ya! Lets keep trading those tapes and cracking those MST jokes! And don't forget, "You never had a poodle, honey, I want you to stop this foolishness about a poodle!"

Well, I suppose it had to end sooner or later, but can't they just stick with the reruns now? It's a good show, and many of the episodes are just as funny after you've seen them over and over. My all time favorite is "Manos...the hands of fate." Torgo was priceless! Almost every joke in that episode had me bellylaughing. Anyone remember "Monster a Go-Go"? Film narrarator: "The most terrifying word in nuclear testing..." (Long pause) Tom Servo: "...is ooops." Best one of the last season was "Pumaman". I love their lyrics for the casio keyboard themesong. "Who's/ the man/ who flies like a moron?" Goodbye Mystery Science Theater 3000, you made my life a little happier and gave me a reason to laugh in a world that so often is so crummy! Just for old time's sake: Hi Keeba! Oh bite me, it's fun! Christmas just aint Christmas without singing the "Let's All Have A Patrick Swayze Christmas This Year!" Thanks Best Brains. You did well.

I feel for those fans who didn't discover MST3K until after it moved to Sci-Fi, not for any quality issues but because most of those fans who have been watching for nearly a decade likely have a big stack of tapes teetering in the corner that they can at least turn to for solace in the coming years. How many comedic efforts out there can still make you convulse with laughter on the sixth or seventh viewing? It's easy to go over the top when you're about to lose something as joyful as this show; not every episode was a gem, but no other show was as hysterical in both a stylish and a goofy way. There's something about picking off a really obscure cultural reference that makes a riff that much funnier. Still, it's hard to be angry with Sci-Fi; those not familiar with all the battles the show fought with Comedy Central should check out the excellent history presented on the Satellite News website (http://www.mst3kinfo.com/) for a real dose of "Taww-chaa!!" At least Sci-Fi granted us a three-year reprieve and, thankfully, by the third season, Best Brains had started to ignore the network's directive that the movies riffed had to have a sci-fi angle. Some of the best MST3K efforts centered around awful stuff like "I Accuse My Parents" ('Thanks God I'm white!') and those bizarre Russo-Finnish films like the Sampo-injected "The Day the Earth Froze." For those just discovering MST3K, it must seem like a short ride, but the amazing thing is that they managed to maintain a core of such creative people on one enterprise for a decade (and that's not even including the early days on local television). Ten years is as much as any of us could have hoped for, and that was only accomplished after dealing with the loss of people like Joel, Trace and Frank. It was an amazing ride, and all of our friends on the SOL can count on us to keep circulating the tapes. Just two more days 'til the finale. But at least we have the "lost" episode to look forward to in a few weeks!
Sci-Fi Executives are Idiots & Syndication Answer

Again I say Sci-Fi Executives are Idiots. I am a long time fan of MST3K. I love the show, I collect episodes, the whole 9-yards, a regular MST Nut job. I think that Sci-Fi made some bad choices and did not do the show justice. I think that the best Sci-Fi season of the show was 10. Why? Well Sci-Fi finally loosed up the movie choices to allow for non-sci-fi related films like "The Girl w/ Gold Boots" and "Final Justice". They were also able to throw a short in there "A case of spring fever" witch was terrific. I don't know what the ratings for the show are, but I can't see them being lower then any of some of the God-Awful stuff Sci-Fi has on. Sci-Fi should have also programmed it better. MST3K needs to be on at like 10PM Friday or Saturday Night and don't move it around the schedule. Just leave it. I don't see why another network hasn't stepped in to save it. Oh as for syndication, It's not easy because the everything is tyed into the rights they have to the movie on a given show. Many episodes can't be shown anymore beause the rights BBI had to it have expired and being on MST3K makes the value of the rights to the crappy movie go up in value so when BBI wants get the rights back they are too expensive. SAVE MST3K!!!!!!!

I feel compelled to chime in because my experience with this ground-breaking program may be unique. Not only have I been a MST3K fan since the beginning, but I've actually used episodes to TEACH MY ENGLISH CLASS. I taught the art of film review with Manos: The Hands of Fate! It is with a heavy heart I watch tomorrow's last episode. I guess the Sci Fi people will now have another slot to replay the Blair Witch "documentary" for the hundredth time.

I just had a thought, if all of us MST3K fans unite and flood the sci-fi channel with e-mails to bring the show back we might just be successful enough to see Mike, Tom, Crow, Gypsy, and cambot get recaptured and sent out on S.O.L. 2 for another season or 4 of laughs and memories.
