Daredevil Director's Cut
by enderandrew
Mar 12th, 2009
06:28:05 PM
Other than Daredevil being harmed by loud music, and cranking his stereo to insane levels in the morning, I didn't have any problems with the movie. His buddy Matt Damon would have looked the part better, but it was a decent movie. The director's cut is even better, and I'm not sure Jennifer Garner has ever looked better than she did in that movie. She was gorgeous.

Been a fan of True Blood and always said this cat would be perfect for Thor. 6'4, Blonde and Scandanavian? He was born to play him. Not so sure on Hartnett but then again i wasn't so sure about Heath Ledger at first either. As for the villian in Avengers...i think they may follow the original story from Avengers #1 with Loki tricking the Hulk into fighting the Avengers.

Everything about the movie was wrong wrong wrong, starting with the casting, which they royally fucked up. DD is the Marvel property that, if done correctly, has the best set-up for a Dark Knight style flick. He's always sort of been the Marvel Batman.
Mel Gibson

Mar 12th, 2009

Iron Man was a big comeback movie for RDJ. The press loved that angle, so the movie got a lot of positive buzz before anyone even saw the movie. What about Mel Gibson for Captain America? Sure the guy throws around anti-semtic slurs when he is drunk, but he is a very good actor.

I want an older actor who carry the emotional weight of the role. I'm sure Hollywood would have preferred a guy like Tatum Channing to play Tony Starks, but Favs had the good sense to cast an older actor.

As far as "square-jawed" hero, Mel Gibson can pull off the extremely determined look, as well as the battle-frenzied look.

Watch "We Were Soldiers" or "The Patriot".

Mar 12th, 2009

Affleck was cast because Kevin Smith bragged him up for the role, and people really respected Kevin Smith's writing on Daredevil. Kevin Smith is also buddies with Damon, and if he was going to pimp a friend for the movie, I think Damon would have been a better choice. Damon looks the part better, and is a better actor. Which is not to say I'm an Affleck hater. He has done some bad movies, but I will always respect his acting performance in Chasing Amy. I also dug him as Jack Ryan. His Ryan was naive, with good intentions, and had some charm, but was still very unsure about himself. His relationship with Morgan Freeman makes that movie.

He's meant to be in his early-to-mid twenties, isn't he? Mel Gibson's a bit... old. How about Jamie Bamber? I mean, I know he's British, but he looks the part, and he's a pretty solid actor. You'd need to cast a big name as the Red Skull, though.

When they killed Caps off, he had grey hair, and was older. If Caps is in the Avengers with everyone else in the same time period, then he is older. And I'm assuming that instead of killing Nazi's in the 40's his background will be Vietnam now, so Gibson would be the right age.
How old does Cap have to be again?
by drewlicious

Because I have a hard time seeing a twenty-something playing this. Then again there might be an Australian out there who might fit the bill. Too bad Nathan Fillon isn't fifteen years younger, that would have worked. Jon Hamm would be my pick right now though.

Cap Casting.
by fiester
Mar 12th, 2009
07:28:00 PM
Cap will be a young actor: probably under 25, definitely under 30. None of the big names here will be Cap (and to the guy chirping on about Mel Gibson--you are retarded). It will in all probability be someone new or newish who has only had smaller roles up until now and is not a household name, much like the route they went for Kirk in the new Star Trek franchise.
Kirk
by enderandrew
Mar 12th, 2009

Cap is in his early-to-mid twenties.
by 11dayempire
Mar 12th, 2009

The character biography says he was born in 1917. The US entered World War II (and the film is set in WWII - the whole freezing thing means Cap's the only hero whose origin doesn't need updating!)in 1941. So in, let's say 1942, Cap would be 25. So no Brad Pitt, no Leo Dicaprio, and certainly no Mel Gibson. I'll say it again: Jamie Bamber for Cap. :)

A lot of us still look like boys moreso than men so I'd suggest taking the casting to late 20's to early 30's. Look at Josh Hartnett for crying out loud. The guy's 31 and he looks like a college student. Another guy who would be a good fit if he were ten years younger: Mark Valley.

feel like im forgetting something. daredevil was a decent attempt at a thoughtful superhero movie, but not part of my list. not to mention the wonderful non-superhero adaptations Ghost World and American Splendor and A History of Violence. still think im missing a superhero comic. no,not Superman Returns, which should have been up there, but Bryan Singer decided to make a sequel that nobody needed or asked for (and i love S1 and most of S2 so dont get me wrong). was much better than the silly ff4 but waiting for a true reboot.

First of someone mentioned not liking Alexander Skarsgard because he is short and Skinny? as others have Pointed out he is 6'4 Thor is 6'6, and he can work out and buff up no problem, he is also Scandinavian and a good actor from what i have seen, he is a perfect choice. Also im not Sure either about Hartnet but as they said Branagh likes him because he played a similar character in Othello which i have not seen but anyway i trust in Branagh. As for people saying how they cant see a Thor movie being any good, and how they would have to drastically change it so its not cheesy? WHAT R YOU TALKING ABOUT!?!?! its basically Lord of The Rings with GODS! He wont talk in the Shakespearean accent as he doesn't in the comics and he will have a more traditionally garb like he does in the comics now, BAMM!! not cheesy at all, done right this movie is gonna DESTROY US!:P on related news i knew they were going to postpone this movie, they wanted it to come out summer 2010 and they have not even cast a single part yet!:P

Because that's what these films will have to generate between them and I frankly cannot see audiences repeatedly going to see the same damn stories over and over again (i.e. origin stories). And you can't honestly expect every single film to be a gem. Maybe Marvel think they can flog the same horse over and over, but it's going to bite them in the ass after too long.

I think the comic book movie is bankable for a few more years - unless the quality of releases drops and the wider audience anticipates that the next superhero movie will be crap.

That's not likely to happen with Marvel's self-financed films IMAO. They've waited too long to have full creative control to fuck it up at this point.

As long as the actors can carry the movie as RDJ did in Iron Man, these movies will continue to find a large audience. Iron Man was successful because it integrated good characterization with humor, wit, and action.

by Anna Valerious
Mar 12th, 2009
09:45:25 PM
Christopher Eccleston in "The Seeker". Because Mitothin (Which is actually his character's proper name instead of how he's referred to as "The Rider") is the German version of Loki of the Gods. Interestingly enough, he played Iago in "Othello", too. Okay, I'm still not happy with this "Fantastic Four" reboot. Why? They got it right the first time. It's supposed to be a bit funny as they're supposed to be a family and they have their problems. And Chris Evans was perfect as Johnny Storm. This, I will guess, will go over as well as Corman's with the executives.

Fox: I would highly advise to stay away from Doctor Doom for the first film. He was handled terribly in the two FF's and you don't want to go down that road again, for the first movie at least. Too much baggage with that character. Fans and the regular movie-going public will be turned off by the mere mention of his name and not go — even if it is a good take with a good actor this time. If you MUST use him, set up his character in the first film as Reed's college friend but don't bring him in until the second or third movie. Use the bad guy from the very first issue of Fantastic Four — the Mole Man — and have him unleash some Cloverfield-type monsters in New York. Do it right for fuck's sake.

I mean all this talk about these "remakes"... You already screwed DD up once you have to do it again this quickly? Cause the super hero remakes I've seen aren't really that much different then their predecessors. I think the trend will continue. Especially since I have 0 faith in fox. They couldn't even get a sequel to this crap made. Sorry. This really stinks.

Glover can pull off that jealous conspirator against his own kin portrayal of Loki. And Dolph has all the prerequisites needed for Red Skull. German background, expert at all that karate shit. And his face already resembles a skull in some fashion thanks to age. Speaking of which, fuck age limits, get Fillion for Cap. Go back and watch Saving Private Ryan, he was the crybaby Ryan they first encounter. Has the blonde crew cut and all, can probably pull off playing Cap.

Ang Lee's Hulk had awesome action sequences but the story was horrendous. The second Hulk had a semi decent story with very little action. We saw the Hulk kick ass twice, that's totally unacceptable. The Hulk needs to be a fast paced adrenalin pumping spectacle where we see the Hulk destroying shit instead of watching Bruce Banner 3/4's of the movie.
Big comic movies are killing comics
by Jax

I know, people think, "But don't these movies encourage people to read comics?" The problem is that when Iron Man comes out and they hear that Batman 2 is coming out and Thor and Captain America, that's what they buy. They ignore the other great stuff, further strengthening the strangle hold that Marvel and DC have on the comic industry. At the same time the comics market is flooded with sub-par comics of creators that want to nothing but write comic treatments for movies. So who knows what to pick, even if you go and look? There's way too much and so people are overwhelmed by the choice of $3.50 comics, and once again go for the old standbys.

I actually think that any Hulk movie has to establish the fact that Hulk is a hero. Both movies established that fact way too late, and instead made the Hulk a brainless monster rampaging through America. He should be the Hunchback of Notre Dame, or the Beast in Beaty in the Beast. Instead he comes across too Frankenstein-ish. Heck, he was even a hero in the TV show.

If they're going to reboot FF--as much as Chris Evans and Chiklis were the only good things about it, a reboot means they're out. I get that he is in the comics, but this ain't the comics. There's no way they're gonna get a 20-year-old to not only hold his own on screen against RDJ, Ed Norton, etc, but to LEAD them? Yeah, No. Way. What works on the page doesn't always work on screen. The guy's gotta at least be in his 30's to have any sort of believable presence in this cast at all.

Oh, and this Skarsgard casting would be great. I'm a bit skeptical the studio would go for it, though, since I would have thought a property like Thor would need a big name in the lead to make any money. Oh well, maybe they'll go for bigger names in their supporting cast (Hartnett's not enough).

Couldn't you just see it? Kevin McKidd as Thor (although some bloke called Skaarsgard is in the frame now), Dane Cook as Hawkeye...just for "Chucks", Kevin Spacey as Vision (if he "butches" up a bit) and "Sawyer" from "Lost" as Quicksilver! Totally psyched by Ken Branagh doing "Thor"! Hopefully he can do a "Henry V" with it, nobility, gritty action and splendid dialogue! 'nuff said!

I hope they don't develop anything, so the rights do revert back to Marvel. I'd much rather see a cohesive Marvel universe with all these characters under one roof and done right - without any trace of Rothman whatsoever. I actually liked Daredevil - wasn't a perfect adaptation (they really messed up Elektra), but decent. Whereas FF was shit from beginning to end.

1.The Daredevil director's cut was much better. Fox cut out a whole sub-plot about *gasp* Matt Murdock arguing a case in court. Kinda essential to the whole DD thing. Also, MSJ cut out the love scene that Fox made him shoot. Still not great, but greatly improved. 2. Stephen Colbert as Red Skull. Think about THAT for a second. 3. Crispin Hellion Glover for Loki. Whomever suggested that is a genius. 4. Aaron Eckhart as Henry Pym; yeah, I can see him slapping Eva Longoria around. 5. I am loving the age of the comic book movie. Haters go away!

adapted into film was never actually a comic book! DC promised a Blue & Gold mini-series back in the '90s, but it never happened. Strange, considering they were the breakout stars of the 'Bwah-hah-hah' era of Justice League. Anyone ever read "Justice Riders"? It was an elseworlds GN that put the JL of that era into the wild west. And it was fucking awesome. Great art by J.H. Williams III. I actually have *read* Daredevil since the 70's
by Jack Parsons
Mar 13th, 2009
05:54:07 PM
The Daredevil of the much-hated movie was an amalgam of the various Daredevils of the forty years of the character. DD was originally light-hearted soap opera swashbuckling, not Frank Miller's helldweller. The DD you thought was so goofy was the comic. The over-the-top stunts like DD's straight drop in front of Bullseye was understated if anything: Lee and the various artists weren't exactly personally acquainted with gymnastics or science. The subtext and various plots were straight from the comics themselves; I really don't know what the hell else you'd want. Like the Ghost Rider and the FF, the problem is the source material, not the execution. The concepts ARE silly. They look silly on screen. And there isn't enough character history to fill out an entire two hours. Marvel mostly are plot-driven stories, not character-driven as the Watchmen series was; you can see the difference as the writers of The Watchment had to pare back content while FF and the various other franchises desperately try to add filler. Susan Storm just ain't interesting in person, and no actress can fix that, for example.

"Nothing can stop the Hulk. This is fact. Why do you think they keep exiling him from Earth?" #1 Teleport him into the vaccuum of space. Wait. Dead Hulk. He has to breathe. Leave him there. #2 Susan Storm levitates him a hundred feet into the air. Let him wiggle. If he gets clever, pop a bubble over his head and then expand it, rendering the air pressure inside to near vaccuum. Wait. Lure him into a mile-deep mineshaft. Blow it. Can he tunnel out a mile before he suffocates? Nope. Detonate an atomic device on his head. Gas him. Wait until he changes back to Banner. Shoot Banner in head, or perhaps guillotine the bugger. He could be the strongest headless one there is. Pop him into a dimensional rift. One without air. Wait. Any magical attack. Drop an asteroid on him, Heinlein style. eh. your turn, people.

I know almost nothing of his work besides Transformers, but at least he looks the part and is close to the right age. Also, they've GOT to do the WWII origin with him being thawed out and then recruited to lead the Avengers. Putting him in Vietnam and not having him frozen and lost for decades would be horrible (and make him about 60 years old, too). Same goes for casting all 5'6" of Mel Gibson, who is set for life after The Passion of the Christ and supposedly doesn't even want to act much anymore.

That's one thing that's been established over the years. You can drop an atomic bomb on him, stick him in a vacuum, disembowel Banner and grind him up all you like... Hulk will "adapt" and become regenerate himself. Hasn't Banner even attempted suicide before only to watch the wounds turn green and heal up? As for whether Hulk actually needs to breathe... that's not clear either. He's been in the vacuum of space and space-like conditions plenty of times and does just fine after a few minutes to adjust.

Tom Rothman got promoted?!?! Break the arm whilst patting upon back, buddy! Every property he oversaw (fanny-dribble or not) would've made its money with or without this human speed-bump. Now he's reaping the benefits of success via promotion? Hollyweird, indeed! I gotta quit bustin' my hump for a living... this muppet is living proof one can get ahead in the game without justification. I hope he and Peter Guber are hand-jobbing each other right now... in the back of an undeserved limo... driving past homeless people... some of which are out-of-work film writers/producers/directors/et c. ... they don't even look at each other in the eye while tugging each others' small, pathetic gummi-bear dicks... just look out the window at the faces of those that cruel natural selection chose for failure for whatever reason... they look out at those faces from behind dark tinted glass, damp member in hand, and that's what gets these ass-hats off. I bet they get off on the idea that they KNOW they are pure turds, yet they are huge successes. I'd better shut up... probably give these "better-off-having-been-left-i n-the-reservoir-tip" jag-offs their latest idea for a film. Again... no god... not while high-minded, "visionary" execs like this are around bricking into all of our collective mouths. Promotion? Yaaay! Reward hinderance and ignorance towards the fanbase!
