And one more thing, NBC has canceled many shows. Remember that show Joey? The spin-off to Friends? Well, they canceled that. They also canceled My Own Worst Enemy a few months ago. And what about Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip? And one more thing, NBC News fired Imus, not NBC Entertainment. They are different, even if they are part of the same company. Still, even if you count Imus, you shouldn't ignore the rest of the NBC canceled shows.

Geez, even NBC.COM says we'll be seeing "Julianna Margolies (and the doctor Hathaway married!)" in tonight's episode. Unfortunately, I think all the Doug/Carol scenes will take place in Seattle, and they won't be directly interacting with Carter and Benton in Chicago. I wonder why NBC didn't save this for Sweeps, though.

Once they killed off Anthony Edwards, I was done. Unlike Law and Order or CSI, ER couldn't hold its audience with massive cast turnovers. Especially when they started to rehash Doug/Carol storylines with the Croatian Clooney and Maura Tierney (the one night stand getting rushed into the ER, the nurse going back for her medical degree) I don't know if Clooney returning is enough to make me want to watch this episode especially since it will still revolve around characters I don't know nor care about. If this was a stand alone story with Clooney, Wyle, La Salle, and Margulies; I think I would watch. But how can you go back after missing the last five or six seasons worth of episodes?

And, I kept watching it way past it's expiration date because I think Parminder Nagra is hot. But, even she couldn't save the fucking generic, lazy bullshit that they started churning out. I had to give up on ER. I tried to watch an episode a few weeks ago, and I couldn't even make it halfway through. I'll DVR tonight's episode. If Clooney's on it, I'll check it out. If not, dump it.

...this season, and its not been bad. A LOT less "Grey's Anatomy" type melodrama. And seeing Carter back in the building is very comfortable. The new episode just came on, and I love how Clooney, Wylie, Marguilies, and LaSalle got top billing over the current regular cast.

...i'm digging the very organic way in which they're weaving the old cast-members' stories into this season. I kind of hope Hathaway and Ross never find out the kidney is for Carter. Great ep tonight, but there's nowhere to go but down from here. I mean, after Ross, Benton, Carter and Hathaway, are we supposed to be psyched for Susan and Abby? Oy. Cool how the three old-timers all had a hand in saving Carter. And I was pleasantly surprised that the Ross's are just as happy now as when we last saw 'em in 2000.

After they filmed it, the dicks at NBC realized that the show was pulling decent numbers and extended the season by 3 episodes. So, what was gonna be the series finale, is now just another episode of ER. Which goes to prove, NBC cannot do anything right. Great episode, regardless. Oh, and BTW, you ever think Benson may have softened up after raising a deaf child and seeing his prodigy lying in a bed, waiting on a kidney. I thought it was well done by Eriq LaSalle. His best work since Coming to America. Seriously, has he done anything else other than Soul Glo boy and Peter Benson?

Better than the dr. Greene flashback episode. I love the fact that they didn't ruin doug and cxarol's happy ending. In fact they brought em back and made em go out as heroes and reminded us all why we feel in love with the original cast in the first place. It was good to see the old chemistry back tonight the show has been missing for years. Love also as someone else mentioned the old cast got top billing and the new cast was mainly reduced to background characters. It was like a great episode from back in the 90's. Well done e.r. and melvis, obviously you didn't see benton's finale episdoe where after all his years pf putting himself first he had one final great surgery and stuck it finally to romano by declining to advance his carrer and instead chosee his son and put his career on the back burner and be happy with just being a normal surgeon and went into private practice. And yeah with romano not riding your ass for years wouldn't u crack a smile and lighten up also? I think for the first time we saw the real benton tonight. And the old school came back to save carter. They didn't go for the 'oh it was carter we helped let's go see him' typical ending. The job of helping a nameless person was its own reward. Also liked when doug was and the girls were asking about who worked and knew certain doctors. Nice touch.

and this was one for the books. Absolutely fantastic... and the "reunions" were completely realistic (even if they were coincidental). I like how they didn't try to bring them all in one place together. Great emotion and drama. I don't think this should have been the series finale, though. I like that it ended it Doug and Carol... a nice little end to their story. The series finale needs to be at County, though. One minor, minor gripe: I'm a lifelong Oregonian and love the Pacific Northwest... but, we're VERY particular about the pronunciation of our cities/counties/rivers/landmar ks/etc. (i.e. It's OR-EE-GUN, not OR-UH-GONE... and nobody here refers to Washington as "Washington State," unless they mean Washington State University. We say "D.C." when we mean the U.S. capital.) But, anyway... the gripe... did no one bother to tell Julianna Margulies that Spokane, Wash., is prounounced "SPO-CAN," not "SPO-CANE"? If it were a tiny town, that'd be one thing... but it's the second-largest city in Washington. I think she would have learned that after all these years living in Seattle! Oh well... Again, great episode. I was 14 YEARS OLD when ER began and I've really enjoyed it all these years... I cannot believe it's almost over.

I quit after the original cast all left, so I don't know (or care) who any of those other people were. It did take me a few moments to figure out where I'd seen the brunette with the glasses before...she was on Roswell?!

Gotta agree with Herc too.. Really one of the best episodes in a long time. I loved how Ross and Hathaway's story, while intertwined, was completely seperate. There was no "soap opera" (cue the Dun-Dun music with someone in the background uttering "Oh my God"...) moment, just good solid performances. Loved how Clooney's role wasn't just a one-off cameo.. This was just as much about him as it was about the other guest stars. My only complaint was the Borgnine character.. They just set it and forgot it. But then maybe that was the point. Even Sarandon's character didn't get a lot of time. But with Benton also thrown into the mix, there wasn't much time to give. So maybe a two hour episode would have been better, but I'm very happy with what we got.

Bullshit - Herc and others are just gaga over it because it had George Clooney. Herc even admitted he hasn't been consistently watching the show, so how the hell would he know? Now, I liked seeing Benton and Carter together and Benton finally with the stick out of his ass, and Susan Sarandon's performance was amazing, as you'd expect. But I'm sorry, the rest of the episode was just average. There have been episodes this season that have FAR surpassed this one. The one with Mark Greene was amazing, not because of his 'return' but because of how it worked with the current characters and storyline. The one with Bill Macy and the old guy from the 70's was also fantastic because, again, it brought together old characters with the current ones. This episode was for fans, plain and simple, and didn't really advance the show at all - we just got to see Doug and Carol again, in their own environment. Which is fine, but not amazing, or anything. I'm just tired of all this 'ER sucked after Clooney et al. left' bullshit. The show has continually had amazing episodes since then, including, and especially, this season. Some episodes are weaker than others, but to say this recent one was the 'best' one in a while does a disservice to the show, which has been mostly knocking it out of the park this season.

Yeah, I was pleasantly suprised by the quality of the episode last night. It reminded me of E.R's glory days. And, Clooney was good too. He gave us an update on the character with his performance, instead of the writers doing it with exposition. He played an older, wiser Doug Ross who seems to finally be at peace with himself. Good stuff.

You are dead wrong. This did move the story along. It wrapped up a situtaion from severral eps about the mom getting a new heart and carter getting a kidney and due to benton carter survived surgery and he convinced carter to contact his wife again. And it was ballsy. Usually when old cast members return its quick cameos here it was about them annd not the new cast anyone gives a fuck about which is a rareity for a show to do. Besides when they cut back to gates I rolled my eyes. Why watch stamos do his best clooney impression when the man himself was in the episode.

It really makes you miss the good old days. Good episode. It does make me think about all the people who left the show for film careers, but of them all, only Clooney has managed to hit the big time. Where was Sherry Stringfield? Too busy to come back?

It's not about moving story along. Of course the episode 'moved the story' albeit through a mighty set of coincidences. But since I'm keeping up with the show now and not currently watching old seasons, if the episode and the return of old characters is just a fan wank and doesn't resonate in any way for the current characters, then it's not as successful, period. As I said, the best character returns are resonant for audience members with connections to these characters AND resonates with the current characters on a deep level. As the Greene flashbacks did for Banfield, as Macy's episode did for the entire cast. I loved it when Carter returned and was amazed at how good Morris had gotten as a doctor and told him 'you set the tone' which he had said to the then-clueless Morris when he left. Which is what Greene said to Carter when he was in the same position. Just that one line drew together 3 different time periods of the show, and was great shorthand. The Clooney thing was just so-so: a great scene for Clooney and Sarandon and rewarding to longtime fans, but not in anyway connecting to the characters who are on the show now, which should be the main concern for the writers. Anyways, I didn't really have a problem with this ep - all I'm saying is that saying this episode was the 'best ever' simply because Clooney appeared does a complete disservice to the many episodes this season alone that were much better and proof that the show still has moments of poignancy and brilliance, even with the current cast and without the Great George.
