Michael can be funny, but he always gets 30-40 lines. . . there are weeks where Creed gets 0. Maybe the Office should be a true emsemble, like Arrested Development.

That the show is getting too goddamn sentimental, and they can't make up their minds as to wether they want the show to be funny or dramatic and it's killing it.

It has already blown its chance of being anywhere NEAR the British version in terms of quality and consistency. End it before it reaches Scrubs-like levels of epic badness. Stringer Bell FTW.

it is far superior to "the office," which has really become tiresome and contrived, just like "24" and "lost," two of my former favorites that have now taken a nosedive.

You're the biggest fucktard to ever post on AICN. I know people have different opinions when it comes to comedy, but what you wrote isn't an opinion, it's just pure drivel. 'Nothing but jokes about tea and the queen'? Have you ever actually watched the British version of The Office? Obviously not. That's like me saying the American version of The Office is nothing but jokes about George Bush and hamburgers. You're officially AICN's most stupid cunt of 2009 so far. Well done. And your statement about British humour being the comedy equivalent of HIV means your status as most stupid cunt is unlikely to change any time soon.

Read IndyAbbey's last post and tell me who 'wins' this one. With such a well argued point as IndyAbbey's, I can't hope to compete with that kind of intellect, can I? He/she/it is obviously basing their entire argument on old British comedies from the 70's. 'Beaver pelt trade and spices?' Brilliant, just brilliant. I'll go back to making my cup of tea and have a good chuckle about the time my dad raped me. Happy days...

Last weeks episode was not "anemic"
by wolfboy
Mar 12th, 2009
11:43:55 AM
I actually thought that last weeks episode was one of the best in a long time. The writers have recently been trying to achieve a more "dramatic" element and I believe that they succeeded extremely well last week. No it was most certainly not the funniest episode, but it had a lot of hilarious moments as well as (IMO) a rather compelling and complex storyline. The Jim and Pam scenes were sort of unnecessary- but I felt that all of the scenes back at the Office involving Michael, especially in the second half of the episode were very interesting. The ending, in which the entire Office stepped in to support Michael was a beautiful and powerful moment and definitely a shift from our previous expectations of the characters... I really hope the writers keep it up...

"British Book of Smiles" anyone? And yes, "The Office" isn't as good or funny as it was the first three seasons, but it's still the best sitcom on network TV right now. It just shows the sad state of television news when the daily show are the ones offerring hard hitting interviews. Uncomfortable to watch. And that made it MUCH funnier than the past three episodes. There was a lot of absurd Michael / Dwight screaming, but it was still pretty funny. Mar 13th, 2009

That actually was funny. It woulda been the more obvious joke to make it offensive or just unfunny.

Funny how despite being more sympathetic to Michael lately, Jim and Pam were not going to let him weasel out of his responsibility and/or get Dwight fired. Even Dwight's acceptance of the praise was excusable because Michael deserved it.

Throwaway joke of the episode, Michael's "it is an announcement, you're just not interested in the information" and Oscar's silent agreement.

They should start to wrap this series up
by BobParr
Mar 13th, 2009
09:15:02 AM
The British series only lasted two seasons because it was logical that the boss would eventually get fired. The Scranton branch mysteriously continues to prosper and Michael (who has no concept of how other people view him) continues to make huge sales. It would be more intellectually honest if they began an arc that lead to Michael getting fired. A new boss is a good start. David's new boss from the British show was the beginning of the end for him. And the main engine of both shows was the romantic Jim/Pam arc. That's been colcluded and those characters are useless now.
Better than most this season...

...but yeah, I agree that they should wrap it up. I think the main problem with TV these days, is they either cancel too quick or go on for too long. And comedies have the shortest shelf life of all shows.

This is just bizarre. If this is what passes for an argument on AICN nowadays then I feel bad for us all. There used to be British Office vs American Office fights that made sense and didn't bring up tea and hamburgers. We all need to come together and make the Office talkback what it was always meant to be about: Jenna Fischer and how none of us has a chance but oh...what we would do if we did!

First of all, The Office is indeed tired, BJ Novak sucks, Angela is the hot one because she's got skills and Pam obviously could never get REALLY dirty, and finally England does indeed have it's AID's-based comedy Bit Biddle's Bleeding Bum which is not so very great but gives former child star, and suspected pedophile, Clive Glimptonshire something to do when he's not buggering teen runaways and writing travel books about summer cheese houses. Cheers!
