The accent worries me. And she's a bit young to play a character that's been around the block a few hundred times. I'm thinking Rachel Weisz would be perfect, assuming she didnt overdue the accent. And the wigmaster didnt overdue the hair.

That's my dream Spidey flick. But it'll never happen of course, since Raimi and the producers seem to be keeping the franchise all sunny, PG, and silver age-y. Which (partly) explains the Venom debacle... But hey you never know, the success of The Dark Knight (and possibly Watchmen) could make it happen.

Really...in a world CHOCKED FULL of athletic Russian Actresses...we get Marilyn Monroe?

Hot...sure, but why not get the REAL THING...and at a far cheaper price? You can not tell me there isn't at least 20 Hot, available, talented but undiscovered Russian Actresses out there? Look, Your typical(Non-AICN trolling) Iron Man fan only requires, and is paying for, Downey, Favreau and maybe Paltrow...and even at that, THEY don't know who the fuck Favreau is...only that they liked the movie, which the Studio rightly attributes to the director.

Scarlett is NOT a draw...and most people under 35 don't know Rourke, unless they sneaked a peak at dads copy of 9 1/2 weeks, and have not seen The Wrestler.

Marvel better be careful with the stunt casting...and concentrate on bringing the pain with the story.

But much less so about the Johansson rumour. She's pretty and all that, but she's kind of a shit actor. She had a great year in 2003 when she did Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring, but then she's sucked in so many movies since, such as Match Point, The Island, The Other Boleyn Girl, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona. I don't think she's a good fit for this material at all, but I know lots of guys love to drool over her, so I'm likely in the minority with my opinion.

But Rourke fucking rules. I can't wait to see him go up against Robert Downey, Jr.

Good news with Rourke, meh about ScarJo. I was cool with Blunt, she has an odd/exotic look to her which I thought could work for Black Widow.

This is the largest ensemble cast of recognizable names: Downey Jr, Rourke, Paltrow, ScarJo, Sam Rockwell, Sam L Jack, Don Cheadle, and Tim Robbins (cameo as Stark's pops).

We haven't seen this many 2nd to 3rd tier actors since what, "Crash"?

But him as Kraven would be interesting. Scarlett is going to turn out to be a real bad choice for Black Widow, I like her, and she's gorgeous but this role won't work. They should have at least got Dushku but why not get Olga Kurylenko from the Bond movie she would have been perfect and she is well my favorite hottie.

Ahahahahahahahaah...aaaaa...ha haha, ahahahaha, ah ah ahahahah...ooooo aaaaa. Hmmmmmmm. In order to play a character in a bubblegum comic book movie that veers between camp and MTV in its sensibilities the lead actress needs to research her characer and develop her speech patterns? Oh man, that's priceless. She's a name, she's not a terrible actress, ergo she will swell the coffers by that little bit more. She is sexy, and it will give Tony somebody fascinating to flirt with...

She's too gimmicky. She's not a respected actor i.e. Downey, Cheadle, Howard, Bridges or even Paltrow. People think Johansson and see passable art films and awful event films and giant knockers. That's it. Think of her speaking with a Russian accent. Ugh. And she's two "thick" and curvy. Widow should be slender and sleek. Not short and stocky.

Interesting. I always though Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was born to play Kraven, but I could see Rourke pulling it off. It would be nice ot see a return to form in the Spidey franchise after the cringworthy Spidey 3 (thank all the fanboys who clamored for Venom for that debacle).

Obviously, I was too vague...so I'll be more clear.

With such a character, dialect may be an important factor. Although,...THAT depends on the story,...what the character is doing and where she is, at the time. With the character being a Russian spy, the control over language dialect would seem rather important, to both the character and the actress.

Is that clear enough for you?

I have to admit Scarlett is hot. I'm sure the costume they design for her will enhance her (ahem) assets. My only concern with all this is Marvel is supposedly having budget problems across the board, so I'm sure they're paying alot for Samuel L. Downey, and now Scarlett especially if they're all supposed to be in Avengers. On top of that, their original plan was to mesh Ant-Man, Captain America, Thor, and Hulk movies to eventually lead to Avengers movie. That would be great but will it happen as it seems like just paying Samuel L. Scarlett, and Downey is a huge cost in and of itself.

I hate to say this, I love Mickey Rourke but seriously, for all this comeback talk, what will his new career be? He's destroyed his face so much the only parts he can take are as villains and lovable meat heads, which he's already been playing. This is just like Thomas Haden Church's Spider Man 3 role. That said I hope he gets a huge payday on Iron Man.

He's the best. He's my favorite boxing, tirade-causing, dog-carrying, plastic surgery addict on the planet. My girlfriend and I watched 'Year of the Dragon' the other night, and she didn't even know that was the same guy from 'The Wrestler'. I think the only positive developments from 2008 were the fact that Mickey was nominated for so many awards, and that Eric Roberts and Anthony Michael Hall were in the biggest movie of the year.

Olga Kurylenko. She IS Russian and speaks English with an actual Russian accent. She's about a million times hotter than Scarlett Johannsen. She has beautiful, smoky, sexy, intelligent eyes (not bland and kinda doe-eyed like SJ). All she has to do is be badass without acting like a man (no easy feat). Think Ripley from Alien, Selene from Underworld (hate it or not, she's a badass and not remotely masculine), Trinity, etc...all badass women without any man-like bullshit (nothing more attractive than a badass woman who doesn't act at all like a man and nothing more unattractive than a badass woman acting exactly like a man.)

is sexy and can kick butt. Olga Kurylenko has sex appeal but does not have much of a stage presence. I thought she was great in Hitman, but she was kind of a let down in that Bond movie ... really sort of bland. She is simply not believable as someone who can fight. Milla can do it all with lots of charisma. Scarlett ... she's a better actor than Jessica Alba, but she's as believable as a super spy as Alba was a scientist in FF. "Black Widow is a world class athlete and gymnast, expert martial artist (including karate, judo, aikido, savate, various styles of kung fu, and boxing), markswoman, and weapons specialist as well as having extensive espionage training. She is also an accomplished ballerina. - Wikipedia"

she's going to need A LOT of great directing to make her awesome. She won't be able to do it on her own. That fact that she is Ukrainian is a big plus. Sorry for the confusion, but they're calling him Whiplash, not me. Whiplash became Blacklash, and he's a freelance, enforcer-assassin type who's real name is Mark Scarlotti. He has a cybernetic whip and costume, a purple cape, a mask with a green ponytail coming out of it, and looks overall whack. But he did fight it out with Iron Man and Spidey in a Marvel team-up in the 80's. http://www.marveldirectory.com /individuals/b/blacklash.htm

by Immortal_Fish

She is wrong, wrong, wrong. Please let this be a hoax.

The character looks like she's in her 40s, yet is actually in her 60s. That's Famke Janssen, Milla Jovovich, Talisa Soto or Kate Beckinsale (who would have been perfect since she can even speak Russian).

Does Favreau realize that Paltrow is a better suit for the Widow role than ScarJo is?

Gang -- she's way too young. Maybe she could play the role in a in a Super Squad version of Marvel's Avengers at some point. Then she'd be pitch perfect.

Sorry, but I don't see someone even in their early 30's carrying a scene with the comparatively venerable cast of RDJ, Cheadle and Paltrow.

Mickey Rourke (fir those of us of a certain age) represents a time, possibly the last time, when movie stars had balls. He's been standing up and kicking back since sparking in "Body Heat" (still one of movie history's finest debuts); and yes he's been in some shit, and yes he's made mistakes but he REPRESENTS! And, just lately, all that baggage he drags with him is really starting to play. Case in point: Dwayne Johnson would make a perfectly acceptable PG13 Kraven the Hunter...but one look at Mickey's mug in Kraven's duds and you'd be sold! He looks like he's spent his whole life tangling with every wild thing on the planet! Scarlet Johanssen is nothing more than woodpecker fodder and should be dismissed accordingly! 'nuff said!
