but Ridley's hit to miss ratio usually favours miss. Also, do we really need another Robin Hood film? If they'd taken the whole 'Nottingham' angle at least it would have been fresh, but another retelling of the same story? Yawn.

Wikipedia is saying that Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent has also been cast in the film... any truth to that?

As for the Sheriff, I think Ian McShane is as an ideal candidate for that SOB.

It sounded much more fun when it was going to be about the Sheriff (and though it didn't pan out, Crowe as the Sheriff and Bale as Robin Hood would have been a blast). I'm sure they can give the tale a new flavor, since Robin Hood is a pretty barebones outline that you can color around as much as you want, but it just kind of feels like "why bother" at this point. But Cate Blanchett is a sublime choice for Maid Marion, so that's something. And man, Scott must love working with Crowe, this will make it 4 films in a row for these two, too bad they've all been, at best, energetic but forgetable (American Gangster), Though, to be fair, I didn't even see A Good Year or Body of Lies, maybe those were good flicks and I'll just never know. Actually now that I think about it, Black Hawk Down and Matchstick Men, that's about all Scott's done this decade that I've really dug.
ian mcshane would be fucking perfect.

As a Newfoundlander myself I'm glad to see one of us making it to the Big Screen. I may be sick of the band (Local Radio Stations playing them all the time killed it for me) But it's still cool to see the lead singer in a big budget movie.

How many more Robinhood movies/remakes/"-re-imaginings " do we need to see/suffer through already? Now, don;t get me wrong, I am a big fan of the Scotts Brothers works I like Tony and Ridley and most of the movies they have made...but come on! Enough! Do we really need another Robinhood movie? This story has been re-told/redone as may times as freakin' King Arthur!

Now that I think about it, has been two od the best villains of recent cinematic memory. He was amazing as the head German in Die Hard and again really good in Prince of Thieves. Wouldn't that be cool if he reprised the role for the movie? Of course, if that happens I would pay to see Watchmen again. Not happening.

Prince of Thieves was ridiculous, with Kostner's 'accent', although everyone agrees Rickman was awesome. And then the horrible one in the seventies or was it eighties with Sean Connery. Hasn't been a good one since Errol Flynn's. After 'Kingdom of Heaven' I'm really looking forwards to more from Ridley Scott on that time.

I can't think of anyone better to play the Sheriff of Nottingham. I am expecting that the Sheriff won't be the stereotypical bad guy. Alan Rickman's performance was just another Hollywood villain, and that's not going to do it this time.
