...I love Tom Baker, but I have a feeling this thing is going to end up being a straight-to-video deal, or, as previously stated, the Wing Commander of its time. Dark Penguin... heh, Rubik The Amazing Cube! They should next acquire the rights to Saturday Supercade and Monchichis! As for people who play D&D, I personally don't play D&D anymore, but play almost any other kinda RPG... D&D just got old and left behind. Although I will NEVER EVER play ANYTHING made by WHITE WOLF EVER!!! Fuck that hip vampire-wannabe's game. The Goths can HAVE it. And yes... I have seen a bra. Many of them ;-)

Yes, there are people out there that still play D&D, Gurps, Paranoia etc that do have a life, have been through puberty and know what a Wonderbra contains. Indeed, many of us enjoy the contents of these Wonderbras on a daily (or more frequent) basis in the forms of our wives, girlfriends etc. Please stop generalising the masses based on a select few. And in case you were wondering, the fireball does greater damage, but you can get a greater distraction with a good wonderbra (and the casting cost is far less).

based on a role playing game would be the Call of C'thulu. Someone really should buy the rights to the HP Lovecraft mythos and make a right-on, cliche-ridden, frighteningly-dark, action-packed, sfx-filled summer blockbuster. The usual CoC characters abound, of course, the 'terribly English' English librarian-geek, the 'terribly snobish' European (french perhaps) Scientist, the 'terribly brash' student, the 'terribly brave' American adventurer and the 'terribly babelicious' babe. Throw in a typically 1920's setting, running all over the world to stop the rise of C'thulu to save the world and an assortment of Lovecraft-inspired ghouls, creepies and general nasty-types. You'd get to tap a number of audiences - the Lovecraft lovers, the roleplayers, the horror genre; throw in a star or two and the whole world would want to watch it. but dont forget, this is my idea, if anyone actually makes this movie - I'll sue for royalties - BIG TIME!!

Could you actually pull off a Cthulhu based movie. Lovecraft's stories seemed to be a whole lot more about atmosphere and the inner thoughts of the characters. I don't know if this could translate to the big screen. And if it did, would Iron Maiden have to do the soundtrack? That is not dead which can eternal lie........

An even greater comedy would be a "Canadian Bacon" scenario which would be about the people who blame all of lifes problems on a harmless hobby. As for DnD, or ANY other flick, it will live and die based on the script. Good Script + Good Director = Good Movie. Period.

They ought to have put warnings on D&D boxes; "Every dungeon scenario played will delay the loss of your virginity by six months". It was pretty good fun at the time, tho'. Of course, the big question for the movie version is whether we can have Uni, from the cartoon series, in it. A live action version of that little walking migraine would put a certain Mr Binks into perspective.

Man, what a great time it was to be a kid. I remember playing D&D in Grade 5-6, it was a fun way to entertain ourselves, as well getting us to use our imaginations. I agree with one of the posters above, that it's far too late for a D&D film. They should've gotten one produced when it was at the top of its' popularity. Although, I loved the idea of the first script, a group of D&D players from the 80s find an enchanted 20-sided die and are sucked into the magical realm of D&D. That would've been just the RADDEST movie! Vive La Eighties!

Looks like Wizards of the Coast (who now own TSR) is really trying to improve the visibility of the D&D product line. I have to assume this movie is licensed by (and probably encouraged by, too) WotC. They also have recently re-enlisted SSI to do new software titles for the AD&D "Forgotten Realms" world. SSI is currently working on what's code-named "Pool of Radiance II", though that won't be the release name. Check the archives at www.gamespot.com for a recent interview with SSI about resurrecting the AD&D line. (Gee, I didn't know they had clerics with 7th level spells at SSI...)

At least not the past two years... It's funny, though, that when WW releases a sci-fi RPG called Aeon and is forced to rename it to Trinity by the evil Viacom, WoTC aka owners of TSR, releases a sci-fi game called Alternity... My, how similar the names are... As for the "angsty goth vampire crap", that's getting chucked out the window... And Aberrant would make an awesome wicked movie...

Many/most of the AD&D players that I know (D&D is the original, watered-down version) have been laid, play Warhammer 40K/Fantasy AND White Wolf games, actually go outdoors, and have lives outside of roleplaying. It's amusing that over 20 years after the release of the original game, there are still people calling people who play a certain game geeks when they are just as much a geek as anybody is. Oh, well, I guess ignorance is truly bliss...

S'all good. Myself and a few friends (including my FINACEE, A WOMAN) get together weekly and drill on some D&D adventuring. It's goofy role-playing at best, scattered and unorganized, but IT'S FUN. Now they have a movie coming out to coincide with this group's re-interest in RPG? And you know what? Regardless of THE BEST Dr. Who being cast in the film, it'll be just as goofy and unorganized as our adventuring! And that's okay, because at this point it's perhaps better not to take the idea entirely serious!

First off, yes, there are a pretty decent sized group of men and women (over the age of 18) who still play, and enjoy D&D, live regular lives, hold down regular jobs, get laid, and don't have pasty white skin. And I, for one, am looking forward to the movie. White Wolf, please allow me this, is a rip off company with a second rate product stolen from a room mate in college. As for Tom Baker, I have to admit that when it comes to pastey faced, no sex, no lifers, the Whovian crowd out ranks the D&D crowd ten fold. I don't think any of the Doctors could act their way out of a wet paper bag. But then again, D&D was never about acting, so the casting doesn't bother me. Yeah I know I'm opinionated........And?
