And the Pirates trilogy made insane money. There will be more sequels, the question is whether or not they pay Depp big bucks to come back, or if they try to center the new movies solely on Orlando Bloom.

Here we have the first example of a video game that NEEDS to be turned into a movie, with a director attached. What is the holdup on that project? Just thinking about what Verbinski could do to "Bioshock" visually excites me. An underwater art-deco dreamland of a city in the 1960's that suffers a cataclysmic breakdown in society due to gene splicing and ethics being thrown out the window. MAKE IT.

Fuck, I love Clue. I honestly think that a Verbinski directed version could be great if it has a great writer. He could and would bring a visual style to it that would make it a whole new classic unto its own right. I am actually looking forward to this. But I'll be honest... we need some kind of Tim Curry cameo. He was bloody brilliant in the original.

Or will it be "reimagined and updated for the dynamic young audiences of modern times"?

The original ranks among the best comedies of the 80s - not surprisingly, considering it's the work of Jonathan "My Cousin Vinny" Lynn. (Although I still want the "Tim Curry Is Victorious" ending to be the proper one)

This remake will be to it as... well, just watch "Mouse House", or whatever the title of that junk was, to get a taste. If you even can suffer through 5 minutes of that. (Or, for that matter, through his "Pirates")

We have been playing a LOT of the "new" Clue at a friend's house of late.

(Side note: It's awesome. Much faster pace than the original, what with the new "Intrigue" cards. You get special abilities, new ways to fuck other players, and... EVERYONE CAN DIE WITH NO WINNER TO BE HAD! It RULES, go get it, have a blast with it.)

Anyways, yah, so we all love the movie and watched it because of playing a lot of Clue. Tim Curry's impersonation of Mr. Green with Mrs. Peacock is HILARIOUS. "I had to stop her screaming!" Argh, it's so quotable! "A DOUBLE NEGATIVE!" "There's safety in numbers." "I'm going home to sleep with my wife!"
Casting for Scarlet has begun

Mrs. White - Maggie Grace

Professor Plum - David Krumholtz

Mr. Green - Paul Walker

Colonel Mustard - Josh Duhamel

Mr. Boddy - Skeet Ulrich or Rufus Sewell

I wasn't too happy with the third film, except for the potential setup of a Fountain of Youth oriented fourth film. It's most likely going to happen, due to the extreme box office of the past 3 films. I'd imagine it truly depends on the schedule of a certain Mr. Depp.

Personally, I'd rather see Depp in a Dark Shadows movie first before he revisits Jack Sparrow.

I think Disney will attempt to really milk the franchise, by attempting to branch off into a new trilogy. Orlando Bloom has the highest gross per film of any single actor in history, because he was in all 3 LotR movies, and all 3 Pirates movies. Studios dig those kind of numbers, and I expect so see a new Pirates trilogy center around Orlando Bloom and the Flying Dutchman. The thing is, he can't set foot on soil, and he can't have another love interest. So while he will be the main star, they will need new characters at the heart of the franchise who can go on soil, and who can have love interests. Arguably, Bloom and Knightly played the core roles in the original films anyway, so I look for Bloom to move into the Depp-type role, and have a new set of young actors to fill in essentially for the parts that Bloom and Knightly played. If Bloom is the only major principle returning, the studio will also save on money, since they're only heavily paying one actor.

There must be more to this than "based on a boardgame". Ridley Scott is no idiot. This is a calculated move of genius. He and Gore know something we dont. I remember i got the 1989 BATMAN board game. I gave it a go, there was a crazy dice and some other shit too. Yep, i stuck it out that Xmas afternoon for almost twenty minutes before realising what abortionesque stab in the back id been given. I would have rather they drove me out in the middle of nowhere and just abandoned me than expose me to this peice of shit. 2008 videogame software revenue 11 billion. I can understand why producers want to turn successful games into movies, but when gameplay can last 50 + hours, the game can provide plot and characters and yes, even nuance that a 2 hour movie may have difficulty providing. Why haven't Grand Theft Auto or Metal Gear Solid been turned into movies? Because they are both cinematic experiences of their own.

This will never be as good as the original, especially with talk of a "global event". Sounds like they're going the spy thriller route. LAME. If they keep it to a small group of guests locked in a mansion in which a murder takes place, they can't go wrong. However, I think they will try to overproduce it. Why can't they just keep things simple?

Sure, it was done on a showstring budget with soap opera actors in the 80s as "Witchboard," but even that was a modest hit and found a small legion of fans. Any kid that's ever toyed with a Ouija board in his/her parent's basement would line up for this.

Come on, the first movie was fun in a certain sort of way. I love Agatha Christie-style murder mysteries with everyone locked up in a mansion together, but really, we're talking about A REMAKE OF A MOVIE BASED ON A BOARD GAME. This sounds godddamn ridiculous when you look at it like that.

I'm not a huge Verbinski fan anyways and I could really live without another Pirates movie (that franchise sunk in a damn hurry, if you ask me), but this is all a bit too silly.

As was the case when the news of Ridley Scott's Monopoly came out, the only good that can come of this project is all the fake projects invented in these talkbacks. At least those are somewhat entertaining.

05:22:39 PM
He's coming off a huge hit trilogy, he can probably pick whatever new project he wants, and he chooses . . . a movie based on a board game?!?

No I liked the 80s CLUE movie, but that was lightning in a bottle, just a great cast interacting well off one another. Put in a few different actors and it could have been complete shit. Will a modern verson be as goofy as the first CLUE movie? And if so, why bother remaking it if you're going for the same tone? Because does anyone want to see a "dark, gritty" CLUE film?

This just sounds like a bad idea all around. Seems like Verbinski is pissing away a time period when he could be making whatever films he's had stuck in his head for years. Was CLUE really tearing him up inside?

Clue is a great movie and one of the most quotable ones ever. Why bother to remake it? What possible reason could they have?

The conversation between Martin Mull and Tim Curry about there isn't any confusion/anyone in the house is one of the funniest things I've heard in a movie.

These days Hollywood is so lazy and idea-deprived that they'll remake anything. Get ready for an Invasion USA remake with the Rock instead of Chuck Norris and a Silent Running remake with Jack Black in the lead.
