I'd like to see new episodes, but I'd like to keep seeing the reruns on Adult_Swim. They never ran the credits in a tiny corner of the screen during the intro to South Park.

He always talks about stuff too early, before things are nailed down, months in advance of anything actually happening. He did the same thing with the DVD movies and the Comedy Central thing. Which is not to say the show won't be back on Fox, but the fact that its coming out of Billy West's mouth is not sure indication that its actually going to happen.

I used to say the same thing about Jon Lovitz's "The Critic" when Comedy Central aired it endlessly - and then I realized they only did like 30 episodes in the entire series, so that's why I kept seeing the same episodes over and over again. That's all they had.

The Futurama movies aren't as good as the episodes. The show works as a show but as a movie is too long (even my wife who is a die-hard fan agrees...) Bring the show back... Fox screws up everything but at least when they brought back Family Guy it stayed on the air this time.

The only positive opinions I'm aware of, I've seen on this site in fact. By die-hard-Any-Futurama-Is-Bette r-Than-None type fans.

Personally, I thought they were awful. I'd rather the show got smarter again, and I doubt Fox is a network that encourages or rewards intelligent programming.

Lost is great. Futurama is better.
by therobcat
Feb 18th, 2009
10:39:55 AM
Let's focus on the positive. Futurama is one of the best written and most consistently funny television series of all time. It was like a hate crime to bring back Family Guy and only trust Futurama to direct-to-dvd status. The dvds have been ok, but a show like this needs room to run, so series form is where it will be at it's best.
The problem with the Futurama DVDs
by rsanta74
Feb 18th, 2009
10:43:06 AM
isn't that they're bad. It's that they're trying to tell a much bigger story, but probably shouldn't be.

In spite of their eccentricities, Futurama and the Simpsons are very much old school sitcoms. If it's not Homer's latest mishap and resulting scheme then it's Mom's conquest plan of the moment.

Futurama and the Simpsons are shows that rely heavily on compressed storytelling and situational humor. In many ways, they're no different than Three's Company. Expanding the story to 90 minutes and decompressing the humor is counter-genre.

By the same token, a show like the X-Files, which relied on slow and simmering conspiracy plots fails on the big screen because it now has to compress everything to fit within 2 hours. Compressing the 17 hours of a full season into 120 minutes ruins the anticipation and eliminates slow burn.

Futurama actually stands a much better chance on Fox if they go back to self-contained episodes instead of big arcs that last 4. Unfortunately, like the comic industry and the trade format, Fox is probably going to realize that these decompressed arcs allow them to sell more DVDs at retail. If they do that, the show will probably be canceled again. All of the humor will be there, but it'll be spread out instead of being rapid fire.

by supertoyslast

I still think that Futurama has life left in it - as long as it's in the form of an episodic series. Feature-length stories (even if they're split into episodes) don't suit the razor-sharp nature of Futurama's humour at its best. Too much padding dilutes the quickfire jokes.

...if FOX has any business sense left. Like someone said earlier, it's a sure thing versus that new school show that Will Arnett, Cheri Oteri, and company are doing. I mean, I like Will Arnett but that show looks atrocious. Futurama has a built-in fanbase, and I seem to be in the minority of people who thought the first two movies were up to par with the series, while Bender's Game sort of fell flat more than not. Let Ken Keeler take most of the writing reigns, keep the "blue" humor of the DVDs (insofar as a primetime Network slot will allow), and you've got the makings of a first rate 5th production season (technically 6th if you count the movies) for the funniest show FOX has had since cancelling Andy Richter Controls The Universe. ::drops two pennies::

I'm definitely in the bank of fans who want Futurama any way we can get it... I'd actually PREFER it be on AdultSwim, but I'll absolutely take it on Fox if that's where I have to go for it... and if it bumps King of the Hill out of the Sunday lineup? ALL THE BETTER!! Now I don't have to figure out what to watch for a half hour after The Simpsons. As for the DVDs, yeah, they were a bit overblown, but there are moments of the show's typical pure gold in there, and just one or two. Hell, you can jump ahead and watch the last half of "Bender's Game" (once they're into fantasy) and it is GREAT. It's rare we get a full team of people (writers, actors, artists, etc) who CARE about a show like the people do who make Futurama . . . FOR GOD'S SAKE, LET THEM WORK!!

Billy is batting 1000 so far so I take this as "very close to a done deal". Yeah - he reveals things that no one else will verify for several months, but it eventually happens. I've enjoyed the DVDs, but I truly loved the series and it's still the only show that can consistently make me laugh out loud even after multiple viewings. Futurama is best served in 22 minute chunks, so I’m crossing everything I can that this will become “official” soon.

Maybe this is something of a case of Fox eventually, slowly noticing what works.

Simpsons is in it's 20th year just went HD. Fox is thinking, for a cartoon movie it made a lot of money.

They brought Family Guy back it succeeded. Then came American Dad. The Cleveland show is apparently in the works.

Fox has to be looking at the idea of bringing back Futurama and seeing good things....

Or they're just greedy fucks incapable of original ideas. If the suits are going to recycle more stuff better this than another a Dukes of Hazard Movie.
