as much as I loved that kid in Arrested Development, he's been playing the same "shy, bundle of nerves, unsure of himself, slightly geeky"nerd schtick in every film since whether it suited the role or not (Paulie in Juno, seemed to be written as a slightly cooler character, kinda like Juno herself)...seeing as Scott Pilgrim is a cocky, self assured borderline arrogant guy who thinks he can literally take on the world, I get fears that Cera will mis-interpret the role and play him as George Michael Bluth again. I've been turned off the guy slightly anyway-in Total Film last month he seemed really mopey in an interview, said there was no point to an Development film (though all the other cast members, included ron howard are up for it)and talked about retiring soon...I dunno kid, you might want to act as a different character before you do that, eh? Apologies, rant over

By the way, I came across Mori's profile over on Digg, he's added all the dodgy "Powerusers" and SEO's to his friend list in order to game the system and drive traffic towards Hitfix. Good on him I spose, I'd do the same.

Cast an asian character with an asian actor? Nah who gives a fuck about that eh? Fuck you edgar we get enough of this crap from hollywood.

Oh and I agree about the Cera criticisms. I loved him in AD but the guy plays the same character (or worse, just performs every character as the same character even when they shouldn't be) and he's not what we need from scott pilgrim.

Also how are they condenscing all 7 ex boyfriends into one film?

Hey lex, maybe you can do two seconds worth of research before taking a message board guy's word. Scott Pilgrim is not Asian. The comic is Manga, so I guess that just means the other poster believes that if it's Manga, it has to be Asian - so who's the racist one now? There's a Japanese character named Knives Chow and I'm sure that they'll cast her accordingly. And furthermore Scott Pilgrim is a fantastic book, they're not just doing it because it's a comic - they're doing it because it's awesome.

I know scott pilgrim is canadian and written by a canadian, that's not what I was talking about and you didn't seem to understand my post at all.

His roommate Wallace, who we're talking about being cast in this talkaback, is asian. To cast someone who is not asian is just a big fuck you, and I'd expect better from Edgar. Are they honestly saying there was no asian actors in canada that were good enough for the role?

I think the 'Motion Captured' section of HitFix is good, but I'm a fan of his writing. But the rest of the site is nothing new or exciting. Those kinds of sites come ten a penny. But hey, it's a brand new site, give it time and a chance. I hope Mori has success with it.

Mind you, he's had a few exclusives over the past couple of weeks - the WATCHMEN producer letter, KICK ASS images, and now SCOTT PILGRIM casting news. Not bad for a new site. Some movie sites would kill for those kind of exclusives, ESPECIALLY in the first few weeks of its existence.

Eh? Did Scott Pilgrim suddenly get funny or something?

Will he use a bunch of self referential jokes in there or just do bits from and lines from other films that hide as ideas and jokes in there like he did in his other films? Spaced is great, although it's really just a bunch of referencing of films on the whole which works ok as it was tv. Shaun of the Dead is a work to be proud of. Funny, scary and you care BUT I still felt the little references to other films could have taken a break. Then we have Hot Fuzz - haha funny cos it sounds like it's about a hairy vagina. There was a good story in there somewhere but it got lost under all the references again plus it descended into a huge mess at the end where I was waiting it out to finish. It looked like one of those films that your slightly wealthier friend made with his Dad's , or usually his, video camera with all his smug mates jumpin about doing "pastiches" of film they like and half smiling through it all. I know some of you will say that was the point but I expected more. I think he's a good director but needs to drop the jokey geek way of showing he likes films too and just tell a good story.

but I hate Spaced. I've tried at least five times to get into it, and the show just isn't funny. Simon Peggs character is likeable enough (goodwill from Big Train always passes on to him) but the show is just dull, and no where near as clever or original as everyone thinks. Empire magazine did a massive article on it recently praising it up and down just cos it referenced films-I mean they didnt invent the concept!I mean even Swingers had the whole "guys living in a hole, referencing films they love through their actions" schtick done pretty well back in the mid 90s. Referencing films has been done in almost every episode of The Simpsons and that started, what, ten years before? And they didnt exactly invent it either....I mean I keep veing told the show is almost tailor made to my tastes :Im an irish film student living in liverpool in a falt like the characters in spaced. I like all flicks they refernce too...yet the show just sends me to sleep. I just don't get why its so popular....but to each his own I guess.

Your opinions have been rendered completely moot for 2 reasons:

1) You are the only person on the planet who thought that the title of Hot Fuzz was supposed to be funny because it sounded like a "hairy vagina".

You still use the non-word "meh". Do us, and yourself, a favor and get yourself a vocabulary. People actually consider the opinions of others when they've taken the time to construct their thoughts in coherent sentences composed of actual words.

Fuck off! How's that for a vocabulary? If you actually notice, I was replying to a post which simply told me to go away. Now, given then the fact that you have chosen to attack me for using the term "meh"- it perfectly sums up how I felt about the film. Quick and throwaway. And you appear to be saying that because my opinion is different from yours that it is somehow invalid. You're doing yourself no favours there. I didn't think it was the second coming a lot of people did and sorry if you feel you have to grasp at straws and small points to invalidate - there's a bit word motherfucker- my post. Cera as in Michael Cera, the star of Superbad, which was a huge hit, and Juno, which was also a huge hit. And Wright being Edgar Wright, director of Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead, two films which have a considerable fan following here in the states. Also, I'm 99 percent certain the film isn't a Canadian Release. It will be out in the states as well as abroad. And trust me, if this film is done right, the right demo will be very interested upon seeing a trailer for the first time. It's definitely for the teens and twenties crowd.
