Intrada in 2009 FTW!

Intrada (www.intrada.com) has been making tremendous inroads into studios that had previously not wanted to license their film scores to outside labels. (These studios include Universal and Disney.) Rumor has it that there are more "holy grail" soundtrack CD releases coming this year from Intrada, so stay tuned.

That was the release of the year for me in 2008.

John Williams' complete score from the 1979 version of Dracula. That would be really cool.

The Shinning should be released as a soundtrack! Yet never was, what a fucking shame this is!
You... do know that La-La also released BTAS vol. I?

I believe it was in 2008, although most sales may have been in 2009. Still, the date makes it *the* previously unreleased score of the year. (Even though I already had 90% of the music on those two CDs, from "other" sources.)
So where is the score for Real Genius ???

I used to LOVE the music from that movie. Kinda cheesy now, but still nostalgic, much like Goldsmith's "King Solomon's Mines" score...cheesy, but fun as hell and memorable.

I know that it isn't really an old film, but it had a great score and was finally released after a long long wait.
Is "What;s Eating Gilbert Grape" ever going to be released?

That's what's eating me! I'm probably the only one who cares, but that movie had great music.
I can't believe The Shining hasn't been rereleased on CD

I found the original LP soundtrack at a mall in 1983, and played the hell out of it. Still have it. This thing would sell if re-released on CD! The bootleg Shining soundtrack has some subpar versions of some of the compositions... in particular, The Awakening of Jacob is lame on the bootleg.

The shining was "kinda" re-released, well lots of the Wendy Carlos bits were... on his/her "Rediscovering lost scores"... with bits from clockwork orange and stuff... even some tron. Great CDs, but it's not a shining OST... that would be fucking GREAT!!!! BRING IT!!
Still waiting for a decent "Sunshine" release...

yes, I know the synth stuff can be found by tracking down the walter/wendy carlos stuff, but I want the orchestral stuff (Lygeti, bartok, Penderecki) that was used in the film. What's funny is that some of those Shining cues are also found on the Japanese Exorcist soundtrack cd since they share the same composers and compositions in a few instances

Ya, there are lots of other great releases from last year that I didn't mention. BUFFY: THE SCORE was a welcome addition as was the new recording of the complete EL CID by Miklós Rózsa released by Tadlow Music. And for everyone mentioning BATMAN: TAS...yes, I've devoted an entire article to it alone which should be online tomorrow.
I's estimate that roughly 80% of all my 2008 soundtrack purchase

...were from movies and TV shows released prior to 2008. Why listen to the paralyzingly boring The Dark Knight score when I can FINALLY cue up Shirley Walker's superb Batman: TAS music? Last year was an embarassment of riches (too many riches, in fact...hardly a week went by without at LEAST one limited edition soundtrack release, meaning I've had to pass up some now sold-out titles). It's a great time to be alive for a soundtrack geek.

Sure, it was pretty campy here and there, but had lots of heart and spirit...the score...I'll never know why they never released the score. I'm hoping it will get the proper treatment AFTER Peter O'Toole leaves the planet.

Some scores on this list have been on my shelf for many years now, e.g. Meteor. (And I'm not talking bootlegs.) Apropos Rosenthal: They should re-release "The Miracle Worker".

...this year was FSM's disc of "Green Mansions". You can tell it was a big influence on John Williams for "Raiders".

I wasn't aware that "How To Murder Your Wife" was out. I'll have to hunt that down.

what about Clint Eastwood's FIREFOX???!!
