TV Guide had its place in history...

I think that's what in their mind and metrics data. But I doubt that even though TV Guide readers watch a lot of QVC that they care what's show is at any time. You have to use such data with some basic intuition too, TV Guide folks...

I think the last time I read a TV Guide was about 13 years ago, when I was still in High School and had a job at the local Supermarket. I would read it in an effort overcome the boredom one would frequently experience on a quiet day. Too bad the articles only made up all over 12 pages.

A magazine based on TV listings that is failing decides to get particular about what listings it lists. Because that will bring in more readers. Madness. In point of fact TV Guide needs to reinvent itself much mroe aggressively. The listings in the magazine are in fact beside the point. If the publishers had a brain in their head they'd ditch the listings entirely and go with all TV news, becoming America's guide to TV news. Still would be hard to make it go as magaiznes in general are on the decline. But right now I think people do see the listings as a waste and avoid buying TV guide because it's a magazine where 75% of the pages are a waste of their time and money. Fill those pages with articles and other content you might grab a few more readers.

All of our cable & satellite boxes have MORE than ample scheduling grids available. Every news outlets homepage has a quick link to a primetime TV sked with 3 clicks of your mouse. Can't believe TV Guide has lasted THIS long!

If you are under 65 and subscribe or buy TV Guide...you must be a big fan of that really tough crossword in the back!

"Let's see...5 Down...'Starsky and _ _ _ _ _'...Hmmmm...that's a toughie! Um....12 across...'Leave It To _ _ _ _ _ _'...Dang, this is a HARD one!"

RIP TV GUide....and The CW!!

Law & Order's Mariska Hargitay rushed to the hospital today for a collapsed lung? "Law & Oxygen!"

No surprise NBC Universal is a joint owner of A&E...which airs Patrick Swayze's "The Beast".

Some of us old folk (a staggering 43 years of age, better start saving for my wheelchair) still apreciate the feel of actual paper with ink on it. While I agree with some of the above posters that I don't even look at the grid listings, it does still have some fun articles, weekly highlights, etc... and at the subscription prices it's a steal.

My grandmother used to save them for me and I read an issue that had an article about the show back when it was midway through its first season. I was in college at the time, and I fired up the old bit torrents and plowed through the available episodes and have been hooked ever since, hooking friends left and right. I had no idea they were in that much debt though... amazing. The grid is pretty much useless now when you have the tv guide/preview channel, tvguide.com, etc.

I once read TV Guide. At some point in the last century, I noticed that their grid was almost always wrong. The times were frequently off and even when they weren't they'd say shows were a repeat when they clearly weren't (we're talking schedules that were planned well in advance). I never agreed with the editorials either. They were always chasing last year's buzz and dissing shows purely for lack of ratings. It became completely pointless for me in the course of one year. That's when I stopped buying them. Luckily, the web provided a viable alternative, and although still in its infancy, was much more accurate than TV Guide ever was. Come to think of it, why aren't they out of business yet? Who the fuck still reads it?
Really?

First off, I didn't think that TV Guide even published listings anymore once they switched to that crappy EW style format. Shows how long it's been since I've read it. Who in the BLUE FUCK needs to know what's scheduled on QVC? 7am: useless shit to buy. 8am to 11pm: worthless shit to buy. 11pm-7am: shitty informercials about shit to buy. I get that they're trying to focus on the demographic that reads this thing still, but...wow. You think your business is in trouble, so you decide to focus on pleasing a demographic that is dying off and not catering to the demographics that will replace them. Good job. I hope y'all spent that dollar well!!

when I realized it took them about 3 weeks (issues) to reflect a schedule change. I was planning on not renewing my subscription but, as it turned out, the Canadian edition of TV Guide was discontinued. I ended up getting a refund.

I do have to say, I always enjoyed their preview issues, as well as their "best shows you're not watching" ones - they were always very informative.

With TV Guide dumping CW listings, I wonder how nervous NBC is. As the 4th place network, will they be next to be banished?

With the creation of Tivo and other various DVR's from the major cable and sat companies, TV Guide is no longer necessary. I havent needed to look at TV Guide since I bought my Tivo Series One back in the day. I would expect them to be history at some point in the near future.

I used to love it back in the 70s and 80s. But now, yea with DVR, etc. time to go bye bye. On another note, any reason Entertainment Weekly ignores Supernatural? Yes, they list it in their What to Watch but no major articles. C'mon! Give it some exposure!

Does The CW even have any other orginal programming? If they do, I am clueless to come up with a name of a show. Is Chris Rock's show still on? There's a model show, right?!? What else?

TV Guide is just confirming me something I already know - The CW is irrelevant and barely a network. They should have never merged the WB and UPN. At least before the merger, there were a few shows on the WB I actually watched.

And that Bobby voice. Both deprive what little braincells he has of oxygen. TV Guide has even divorced itself from it's website, taking with it commentators and tv episode commentary in favour of "recaps" of only half the popular shows, done by whichever rats didn't have the smarts to leave the sinking shi-er-ship. TVGuide needed to evolve and revamp but instead, like so many other publications, it's shutting down itself and dying like some cancer patient in palliative care.
