Make sure next time you submit review, be sure to add a few more FUCKs and SHITs... even with all the ones you added, you still look like a pansy boy for drooling over Miyazaki. Since I don't speak Japanese and the lips match up fine. But normally I'm a subtitle man. People always complain about how horrid the dubs are for these movies but unless they speak Japanese I wonder how they know if it was actually any better in the original audio track.

"I've never found myself laughing during Miyazaki's films, merely amused but it's fucking consistent here. This is his funniest fucking film. The comedy in the film feels fucking organic and natural. Jokes and comic moments are never forced but always born from the fucking situations the character's find themselves in. They never do or say anything out of character for a cheap fucking laugh."

I don't mind them. Given a choice, I'll watch subtitles instead, unless I'm doing something and want a movie on in the background. I watch enough crazy Japanese movies that I usually honestly can't remember if the movie I just watched was subbed or dubbed... the process becomes transparent. Mainly, I don't want to be one of "those people" who complain about dubs and bask in their own sub-appreciating eliteness.

Cowboy Bebop Dub > Original Japanese Language, IMO. My issue with dubs is sometimes they change the story in subtle ways during the localization process. Princess Mononke was a classic example of this. In the original Japanese version, the prince is far more versed in the mystical world, such as when they come across those little clickyhead-forest spirit dudes or the pig demon at the begining. In the English version, he comes across as more ignorant of it. But in the end it comes down to what you're used to, I think. If you watch something in one language, that voice is set as your "baseline" in many cases. When you hear something different, it doesn't conform with that and thus sounds off. Although sometimes the Japanese like the American dubs more, at least in Videogames. Metal Gear Solid /w English dubs was far more popular in Japan.

I can never get over the fact that I'm reading at the bottom of the screen when I'm supposed to be absorbing beautiful art and motion. Therefore, for me, a decent dub wins out. I'm always interested in the differences in the text, so I'll often watch the sub as well. But... film is light and sound... books are for reading. Some films that are MADE to be subbed work well because the filmmaker PLANS when you will be reading, but that is almost never the case for Anime. P.S. Am I the only one that has a hard time including Miyazaki and Takahata films in the Anime category? I suppose people's perception of Anime has broadened quite a bit now that there is much more high class stuff out there.

Any native English speaker who only watches subbed anime is a pretentious wannabe-Japanese twat. Fact: much of the time, the original Japanese dub is superior to the English translation. But in many instances the English version is just as good, if not better. The end. By the way, I've been wondering what Gov. Blagojevich has been doing lately while he's waiting to be indicted. Guess he's reviewing anime now. Go figure!

I get a warm fuzzy feeling just anticipating Miyazaki's work... I love his family stuff but I also hope he'll do another epic one like Princess Mononoke! That one's my favourite too!
