The comment "makes me a tad nervous"
by lochkray
Jan 4th, 2009
06:01:50 PM
A tad nervous? Really? I've had such low expectations for this, that all of the trailers and buzz from seen footage actually has me cautiously optimistic. I have nothing against the Charlie's Angels films (almost, but not quite, qualifying as a guilty pleasure) but I was still disappointed with the choice of "McG" as director (FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, MAN, YOUR NAME IS JOE NICHOL!!! STOP SOUNDING LIKE YOU'RE TRYING TO BE COOL WITH YOUR FAMILY NIC-NAME. YOU COME OFF LIKE VANILLA ICE!!! IT'S BOTHERSOME!!! IT'S OFF PUTTING!!! IT'S EMBARRASSING FOR YOU, AND YOU DON'T EVEN SEEM TO KNOW IT!!! AAARRRGGHHH!!!) So, I really have some hope that the movie will be good. And why not? The Terminator series has a great premise. Mr. Nichol has an interesting eye for stylistic fourishes. His videos are excellent, and even the C.A. movies succeed at what they set out to do. With fingers crossed, I now hope that T4 will be good.

"the pattern"
by Alientoast
Jan 4th, 2009
06:08:03 PM
Honestly it makes perfect sense. The Terminator models are excellent fighters and can compliment the human fighters, much like armored support can enhance the effectiveness of foot soldiers. The humans also have limited, if any, manufacturing base. They are forced to repurpose, reuse, and recycle. This is a basic factor that any good military tactician will use, especially when faced with limited resources: If you can't make it or don't have it, feel free to take it from the ones who do or can. Anyways, the reprogrammed Terminators aren't without their risks, as Sarah Connor Chronicles has shown. This actually becomes a point of tension, as many disagree with John Connor, feeling he is essentially playing with volatile explosives that could backfire at any moment.

I was at BNAT and saw McG's footage reel. McG talked about the mysterious T-X that had not been revealed yet, and based on the footage we saw, I thought it was Sam Worthington, but I didn't want to say anything because I thought that was a spoiler. Well, that cat is now out of the bag. I assumed the machines had picked up on some of our own tricks. We had reprogrammed Terminators to help us, so they had captured a human and inserted cybernetic implants into his brain, wiped his memory and allowed him to escape. He would then become a sleeper. He wouldn't even know he was a Terminator, and could be switched on to carry out an assassination on John Conner at a crucial moment. Mind you, I'm making all of this up based on clips I saw that may be out of context. Oh, and McG said HE READS EVERY POST about him on AICN so keep that in mind when busting on his name.

Though I hope it feels like there's some DANGER. That's what's missing from most CG blockbusters. CG doesn't feel like it can hurt you, and the scenes get so busy you don't give a fuck who survives and who doesn't. You switch off. I want the tension to be there. It WAS there in parts of T3. The best thing about T3 was that we really didn't know what the outcome was going to be. In T2 they were obviously going to kill the T-1000 and live, it was the only outcome.

These are prime examples of why Playmates is always a terrible choice for a toy line. You know when Playmates is chosen it is purely a financial decision and not about art or quality product. This also shows why you always want a skilled sculpter rather than a penny pinching factory making your figures.

The T2 line had a pretty cool endo skeleton
by greenstyle92
Jan 4th, 2009
08:24:03 PM
Not the above-pictured half arnold/half endo, but just a full Terminator Endo figure that was really, really, sweet. It was at least movie accurate. The Endo's in this line look crap.

I miss that old endoskeleton figure. in 2002 I broke him, then kitbashed a "T1 end of movie half destroyed" terminator out of him, then trashed him altogether. I realize now that was a huge mistake. I didn't anticipate ever wanting my old toys again, (I had to buy this year's $70 25th anniversary Optimus Prime because I broke my old one from back in the day.)

by wchblade
Jan 4th, 2009
09:30:18 PM
My hopes for their Star Trek reboot figures has dwindled a lit since seeing these. Luckily the 6" ones seem to be the best in the lot. These suck compared to NECA's work on previous films, keep in mind they ARE mass market toys aimed at kids and shown here, but not mentioned is that there are 10" dolls (middle photo), 6" collector figures (top photo), and Star Wars/GI JPe scaled 3 3/4" figs too (last photo). My guess is that NECA was a smaller company and that Playmates had the cash to outbid for the license. It all comes down to how pays the licensing money. Not who buys the toys. : (

Wchblade, if NECA couldn't afford the licence I doubt they'd be able to afford Harry Potter! Are you confusing NECA (who did the 18" endoskeleton) with McFarlanne, who did the Terminator 3 line? I get 'em mixed up sometimes, as their best sculptor, Kyle Windrix, went from McFarlane to NECA.

And why didn't McFarlane do it when they already did the last one anyway? Surely when looking at the quality of those things (higher than the movie!), the movie suits didn't say, "well, we think playmates could do a better job, or keep up with demand better"! Maybe it's one of those weird overlapping multi-licence things like Shrek where you got both McFarlane (sorry for the planty-ness) and Hasbro doing figures at the same time, or Pirates, where both NEA and that shitty new company (starts with a z or x or something) did same-scale figures at the same time, with one appealing to collector-ish types and patronising sloppy pieces of badly-sculpts crap supposedly appealing to the 'kiddies'.

Disfigurehead, as opposed to all the American-made ones? Pretty much ALL the figures/toys are made in China ya great dolt! The thing is, they make the best AND the worst. McFarlane toys are made there too, y'know. Just with roughly 100 paint/deco applications on average per figure. ;)

Sonicdeathmonkey, if it were true that they don't make toys from r-rated movies I guess all the Matrix, Hellraiser, Sin City, Jason, Freddy, Michael, Robocop, Alien, Exorcist, American Werewolf, etc etc toys sitting on our shelves are figments of our imagination... but yeah this particular flick will probably be pg13 or m I agree...

Kyle Reese arrived on present-day earth on May 12, 1984. T4 Salvation arrives in theatres 25 years later, give or take a week. Discuss.

I get ya now, but "dry up"?! Do you not know what that winking smiley means? Or just lost your sense of humour? It was good-natured ribbing, sulky bollocks! (DCI Hunt quote for ya)

forgot about that. Still, I've seen worse violence on "24". I thought the MPAA didn't even care about violence, just swearing and boobies. We did see the TX's ass but again, basic cable stuff.

If they knew it was going to be an R anyway, they could have at least made with the boobies. I mean we had to see Arnold's junk in the first one.

We'll never know, because it won't ever happen. Cameron is on a whole different level of filmmaking from McG.

That's what you get when you go with a company who makes terrible Ninja Turtle animated figures and not a good company like NECA or McFarlane.

The first post was just a joke as nobody else had said it. I don't have any interest in Avatar really.

The second post is true. Toys are for kids. Tis a fact.

Yikes those toys do suck!

Remember explaining that one? But there is nothing like GI Joe and the Kung Fu Grip. I've searched the world and have found only one living master of the Kung Fu Grip technique. This dude doesn't even communicate like normal people any longer. I watched with my own eyes as he used the Kung Fu Grip technique to force an ear of corn on the stalk to spontaneously burst into delicious pop corn. Kidd. You. Not.

Who the fuck actually considers the news about Worthing playing a cyborg/terminator a spoiler? If you couldn't figure it out by the speech Connor gives him, then you could just look at his chest at the begining of the tirade, and see the metal under his skin...
Sequel could be like this.
