He was pretty much the main character in the first one, half of the plot of the second one was finding out about his origins. What more do we need? I actually thought it was cool that there was some mystery. We got the feeling that he might have been a murderous bad guy before his memory was wiped. Of course all that will change when they give an excruciatingly detailed account of his early years, But what am I saying, no character has ever been ruined by explicitly explaining their back story. Not one.

What's annoying about it isn't the disrespect shown towards us. It's the fact that it's just a stupid mentality to have from a business standpoint. Iron Man made more money than any X-Men movie (and double both Fantastic Four movies) with a lesser known character, and it did so by first generating a buzz with fans and then delivering a film that created great word of mouth. Dark Knight grossed more than twice as much as any X-Men movie by staying true to the character and source material, and yes making the fans happy. Sure X-Men 3 opened huge, but that opening weekend accounted for about half its total gross. Does Mr. Rothman understand that quality films continue making money after their opening weekend? Does he understand that a movie people enjoy will sell more dvd's and spawn more lucrative sequels? Do Fox stockholders understand this? Are the hardcore X-Men fans going to see Wolverine regardless of how much it sucks? Yep. But do you really want the most vocal demographic for your product spreading negative buzz about the movie before and after the film is released? What a fucking dipshit.

That other guy was right. Maybe a movie like TDK doesn't rely soley on fanboys to make money because it crosses genres into crime drama and Batman is a much older, more established character. It's been around since the 40's, had a TV show that the baby boomers remember watching while high in the 60'sand it got really good reviews. The only thing this movie has going for it to the non-fanboys is Hugh Jackman's name and that's hardly a sure thing. So Rothsteinbergfeld can scoff at the fanboy market but with this project, they'll be lucky to get that.

I think a marketing guy at Fox will be demoted, reprimanded or fired over releasing this picture. One: as many have pointed out, the claw prop handle can clearly be seen through Jackman's fingers, and Two: surely there must be a better picture to build anticipation for their tentpole movie than this one of Wolverine in what seems like a Turkish bathhouse. Here's where your logic breaks down. IF we watch Family Guy and Simpsons, we are giving a approval to quality shows that actually poke fun at the studio from which they hail. It may make them money through sponsorship and DVD sales. But it's better material. (BTW, you can't save a studio based on two television shows even if they are flagships.) Their movies, however, are a different animal given that they are specific investments which REQUIRE box office returns in order to be profitable. And for your information, after ROTS I doubt anyone here stood in line to see CLONE WARS. (I know I didn't.) For that matter, I didn't bother with the DVD's either. You can piss and moan, or sit back and nay say. But those events I mentioned before happened. And because, the preview trailer looks abyssmal, and X3 WAS abyssmal, I've got better things to do with my cash (especially in this economy) than see crap. See? Despite what you might think, a boycott is extremely simple to pull off. WE JUST DON'T GO. I know you think we're all just syncophantic virgins clamoring for the next big Hollywood turd; but, please, at least give us the credit of not actually being you. decent...but that's about it. I don't know the bulk of the story for the film's sake but I've been a fan of the character for nearly two decades now. If they stuck to the book's line of context it would be great...but I aint to sure that's gonna materialize. I liked the fact that they showcased him in wars & what not but, if I'm honest, it did'nt look like they are pacing things correctly. Take it to Japan & go deep into the Weapon X program afterwards. I just don't see how they're gonna fit the Blob & Deadpool into all this & that's what's got me worried. As far as Rothman goes...whatever I guess. Sounds like a tool...but I don't know him, so I don't really pass judgement. If he's the reason...the real reason that Fox has blocked Watchmen from making date...then he can suck it till it's soft & that being said my friends...well that equals a mouthful.

I've been a big defender of this film until now, based on Hood's earlier work, but hearing about how badly things went behind the scenes leaves me thinking it's not Hood's film anymore. It's Tom Rothman's. And that's not good, considering Fox Studios hasn't placed one film (not one!) in the 25 top-grossing films of 2008. Performance-wise, that's batting a pathetic .000. I've never seen bigger hypocrites. Everytime they help FOX make money, they help FOX promote their maligned agenda through FOX and FOX NEWS. A boycott by us won't do anything. Actors, directors, writers, and especially Joss Whedon are hypocrites and morally bankrupt if they continue to work for FOX. When will Joss figure out that the reason he gets dicked around by FOX is because he's a liberal. He came up witht he plot for X-men 3, yet recieved no credit for it.

I happen to work in politics, and I cannot imagine a political strategist saying something like, "fuck the base. We already have their votes." That's how you LOSE. We have a saying - you don't make friends of your enemies by making enemies of your friends. Fucking up a property so the fanbase hates it won't bring in new viewers. To the new viewers, it's just another stupid comic book movie anyway. Why the hell should anybody be interested in a Wolverine movie if they AREN'T already a fan?! If you can't get the fans, you're NOT going to get new viewers.

i think he's done great service to the character and taken the source material seriously. death of Phoenix in X3 packed emotional weight, even though totally different than comic version. unfortunately, i'm a bit worried about this flick. hope it's good. if it's good (and not great) i'll still be glad Jackman carried the Wolvie torch. who would have been better??
