Ok, maybe I'm just still bitter about Veronica Mars being cancelled (and lord knows VM wouldn't have helped the ratings) but the network still sucks. Its kind of funny that they had hopes of competing with the big 4 networks. No way thats ever gonna happen while they are branding themselves toward teen girls. That group just don't have the numbers and the content rarely has critical appeal.

Network TV is dying

How many people actually sit down to watch an entire evening of programming on one network anymore. I know I have my 3 or 4 shows that I keep up with, but monstly, I just ask my friend "the internet" to record them for me so I can watch them later in the week, on a night when I'm not doing anything. Its tough to find anything worthwhile in the endless sea of Cop/Lawyer/Doctor procedurals that infest network television. Since Veronica Mars was cancelled, I've pretty much stayed away from the CW, although Reaper was stupid fun.

The only reason UPN and CW really got any exposure was because of wrestling. Like it or hate it wrestling is still pretty popular still. The CW was stupid to get rid of it in the first place.
CW has two shows...that's it.
by vadakinX

Forget 90210, the CW only has two shows that gets anywhere near ok ratings - Smallville and Supernatural.

Smallville has been crap for the last 4 years (though it has improved this season) and is likely to finish either this season or next. While CW are preparing a Martian Manhunter spin-off, it's unlikely to be as popular due to the lack of brand recognition that MM has compared to Superman plus MM is likely to be a more mature show in that it won't be aimed at teenage girls.

Supernatural is a pretty good show with some smart writing. If it was on ABC, NBC or Fox it would be a big ratings puller. However while it's one of CW's top rated shows, it suffers, like Smallville, due to the small budget...though it has achieved quite a lot with that budget which is a credit to the people behind it.

Smallville is almost done, Supernatural doesn't get the ratings it should be getting...so what are you left with? 90210. No idea how that's doing ratings wise but once Smallville is gone, if the Manhunter spin off doesn't take off it could be the final nail in the coffin and not even Supernatural will be able to save it.

Next they'll beat NBC?

WUAB/43 (Cleveland) carries it here is and there's no question that I prefer it to their decade or so as a UPN provider. Why? Quite simple, really: It makes the primary UHF station of my youth feel like a UHF station again!

The 2 main UHF stations here (WBNX being the other) always maintained this fun, unique vibe. Even after we got cable, I watched them a lot... Everything from their newscasts to primetime programming to commercials felt low budget, but it was okay because it never gave off the impersonal vibe that the big national stuff did. It felt... local.

Unfortunately, it was totally ruined when they began to carry the WB & UPN's wannabe programming. The personal touch was gone, AND the quality of the network as a whole never even approached the competition.

MNTV never feels like it's trying to be a 'big fish', while the CW does. And I (and a lot of others I guess) just aren't going to buy that. I can't speak for anyone else, but I'll take Rocky 4, Tron, and Twilight Zone reruns over first-run CW programming any day of the week!
This brings to mind the Special Olympics joke...

So she would be replaced by Bud's ex-wife who Peg has taken a liking to and has rented Kelly's old room to. Marcy and Jefferson are still living next door. There savings lost because of the financial crisis and are living on less money than the Bundy's are. Which left Al in a particular happy place...at least until Bud and his ex are moved in and he realizes that he's...

I worked at a station that switched from The WB to MNTV
by Cheif Brody
Dec 23rd, 2008
10:25:26 AM
The second we lost the CW affiliate-ship to the OTHER local independent station in our the market (Tampa), I bailed. I saw MNTV's line up of crappy telenovela remakes and thought "This thing is doomed".

Glad to see MNTV's hangin in there...I figured the merger of UPN/WB would amount to a hill of beans...but I thought it would be a bigger bean hill than this! The fact is...you just can't ever count out Rupert Murdoch.

In this economy, tho...not a good thing to be the lowest network on the totem pole! It would not surprise me if one or both of these two 'net-lets'...are forced to fold up their tent due to budget cuts and layoffs.

But, what people have said here...about the American TV Viewing Habits changing forever...Internet...DVR...Tiv o...Dead on. The networks are all gonna have to come up with a way to get us to watch LIVE 'over the air' broadcasts again...contests & giveaways that you have to be watching live to be eligible for...Otherwise...this whole mess is gonna go subscriber only access...and the only "FREE TV" yer gonna get will be PBS & C-Span. Watch.

BTW...That fuckin Married with Children sequel idea? Seriously? Of all the 'remake'/'reboot' plans I've heard of this year...that's the best one yet. Seein Al & Peg as grandparents? A whole new slew of 'children' to fend off. Bud still livin at home? The dog's still alive?

Good luck getting Christina Applegate to come back for it...Better wait til Samantha Who gets the axe...which should be soon.

Actually, when WWE Raw moved from SpikeTV back to USA, the deal was worth less than the previous USA deal. Before they moved to SpikeTV, WWE was getting a big cut of the ad $ from Raw; now USA gets it all, which is the standard model.

How is it possible that the poorly-named "MyNetworkTV" is getting ratings? And that shitworks UPN and the WB combined to make a far worse network that spawned yet ANOTHER mini-network to fight with? He is mad because they cancelled Angel (or some other show). Therefore, he doesn't give us any information on their shows, unless they are failing in the ratings, or if the CW is failing in general. Oh and also because Supernatural is a far superior show to anything Joss Whedon came up with.

Supernatural is not better than Joss Whedon's buffy or angel. R u f**** kidding? The only comparison made is the dark supernatural aspect of it. But no way is a show like Supernatural better than anything joss Whedon has put out. Whedon is a TV genius. He knows how to tell compelling storylines which is why he's a highly acclaimed filmmaker. In no way shape or form am I a fanatic, cause i didnt like his Buffy season 6 & 7, but if Joss Whedon was the creator of Supernatural, the show would be loads better than it already is. Oh, and what's this I hear about the Smallville Martian Manhunter spin-off? I need more information. Is the League of Superheroes regulars on the show? I think it'd be cool, since MM is a detective, and have him solve paranormal cases each week. Someone point me in the right direction to find out more...

That was a very clever idea for a Married with Children follow-up/sequel. If you had connections you could pitch it to Fox. Just like the movie studios, tv networks like the fact that your idea already has a "built-in audience", plus name-recognition. None of the actors are terribly busy and maybe would consider it.
