10:46:51 AM
My Robocop question would have been the next thing to get asked, but the interview got cut short just before I could get to it. If you notice, I always save my "What's next?" questions for the end of every interview; makes sense most times. But this time, it bit me in the ass. Sorry guys. If Darren would like to chime in on the Talkback or give me a ring, I'll try and get the update.

I can't wait to see this movie. I really enjoyed Mickey's early career. Amazing work. Always struck me as the next generation of method acting in the Brando tradition. Raw and real. Then it went wrong. His go at Sin City is my favorite of that film. I could watch that over and over. Congratulations to all involved in this film. Great interview.
Modern Death of a Salesman?

When reading the interview some of the themes of the film sounded reminiscent of Death of a Salesman. This could be special, I'm looking forward to it.

Robocop Update

Dec 22nd, 2008

Stern asked Darren about Robocop...Darren sounding very unsure about the project before finally giving the "we don't have a script yet but it's being worked on" response...so nothing really new there...but again...he sounded very unsure if it was going to happen.

That's what I figured. As I said, still a great interview. Everyone seems pretty interested in DA's take on RoboCop and his comments on Howard Stern made it sound like he wasn't too committed to the project. But then JoBlo.com had a report the other day saying it was nothing and that DA was fully committed and excited.

So which is it? That's what I want to know.

The soundtrack...

is painfully accurate to the soundtrack of my youth in the late 80s. Cinderella, Ratt, Firehouse...I secretly started to rock out with "The Ram" when I heard Nobodies Fool, and Round and Round. Marisa Tomei stripping to a Firehouse song is the sexiest thing on Earth.

Comeback?
by Powers Boothe
Dec 22nd, 2008
04:36:28 PM
I've always loved Rourke's work. As a teen I adored him in stuff like Rumble Fish, Barfly, Year of the Dragon, Angel Heart and Johnny Handsome. Then he started boxing, wrecked his face and eventually appeared in lots of forgettable straight-to-DVD flicks.

The Wrestler is a fantastic film but to be quite honest Mickey's "comeback" goes back earlier in this decade. He's great in Sean Penn's The Pledge, Tony Scott's Domino & Man On Fire, Francis Coppola's The Rainmaker, a cool indie titled Spun & of course Sin City.

It's interesting to think where he'd be now if...
by Powers Boothe
Dec 22nd, 2008
04:50:33 PM
he hadn't pissed so many Hollywood people back during the early 90s. Some of the younger Talkbackers may not be aware of how acclaimed Rourke was during the second half of the 80s. He was well on his way to becoming the new Brandon/De Niro. The guy was good looking AND had terrific acting chops.

Mickey now looks the way he does 'cause of all the cosmetic surgey needed to repair his face after the condition it was in from his boxing career. Most found it difficult trying to find the right role for a guy who looks like that.

What sort of nut throws away a Hollywood career just to start boxing?

Awesome! I wish the movie would play here

Any movie that can burn into my memory the way that film's ending did is worhty of the HD-freakin-DVD purchase I made for it. I love movies that use snow to great effect, and Hugh Jackman is a great actor with the right material, I don't even need to know what a Brad Pitt/Cate Blanchette vehicle woulda been like. Can't wait to see this one.

As they kinda bombed, well Man on Fire didn't but he was kinda eh in it, same as Once Upon a Time ect... Saw Spun at Toronto Film Fest Midnight show with him and the cast there. Was freakin crazy! Love Rourke although don't remember him in the Pledge, now there's an ending to haunt you for life eh? Can't believe that film doesn't get more geek love.

The Springsteen Song Sucks
by catlettuce4
Dec 22nd, 2008
08:22:34 PM
Bruce is one of the greatest singer-songwriters of the rock era, if not the 20th century. However, with a few exceptions, his soundtrack work is boring, repetitive and derivative of his far superior "Nebraska." The theme from "the Wrestler" is not one of the exceptions.

In full agreement with you on "Lift Me Up" from Limbo - one of my favourite Springsteen songs, and I'm a huge fan of the Boss. To whoever said all his other soundtrack work is generally a rip-off of Nebraska - I see where you're coming from, but I'll have to disagree. Just because it's acoustic doesn't mean it's a Nebraska rip-off - his songwriting's changed, and the sound reflects that. Anyway, the film comes out here in the UK next month, and I can't wait. Big Aronofsky fan to boot.

they just keep getting better and better. I was too young to see any of Rourke's movies when he was an A-lister. Now that I'm old enough I just never got around to them. But, having seen him in OUATIM, and Sin City, I have respect for his work. I just haven't been moved to go re-watch movies that now are considered classics.

They usually plan sequels with names like Angelina Jolie to movies that bomb.

Who cares about any of that, why didn't you ask what it's like to ball Rachael Weisz? Perhaps that would have been in poor taste.

I meant to say Sin City and Spun, *comma*, the other's kinda bombed. If you read my actual post it is kinda apparent that I love the guy and I myself own 2 versions of Sin City, Extended and Blue. But to I Dunno, Dude, Angelina Jolie is like Blowfish, most of the time she is box office poison just check her IMDB. and only really, really, really, really crappy movies like WANTED, FUCK THAT IS A CRAPPY MOVIE, make money with her and I doubt it is her name that sells movies like that. Seriously, Changeling, A Mighty Heart and those Lara Croft (which never make back their budgets)She sucks!

This is an incontrovertable fact. So far in his short career, he has given us Marisa Tomei's tits and Jennifer Connelly doing a graphic ass-to-ass dildo scene after going down on a black dude. If this guy can get Lacey Chabert and Jeniffer Love Hewitt to film a Party-of-Five Sixty-Nine scene, I'm ready to give him a Congressional Medal of Honor.

Well here I go...I attempted to sit through Requiem for a Dream the other day...having only seen the Fountain before this..which was wank at worst at mildly interesting at best...but I have to say that the praise for Requiem must be a product of the times it was made in,because I havent been annoyed by such self indulgent wank since Von Trier's Dogville.. Yes yes,i know the insults will fly (like i will give a fuck)..but really, I hope the wrestler is a MAJOR turn around for Aranofsky because he shows promise but is lost in his own bullshit in his films i;ve seen to date..I've asked around people I know a surprisingly a lot seem to think Requiem was shit as well despite the repeated BJ's it gets online and from various critics.
