The next movie is going to be an adaptation of Batman RIP and Battle for the Cowl. The word is that the next person to don it after Christian Bale's killed will be Shia Labeouf.

I can't reveal my friend's identity, as he'll only end up getting fired. But trust me, in 10 years time, every franchise we grew up with is going to be starring Shia. Instead of playing Six Degrees of Separation from Kevin Bacon, we'll play One Degree of Separation from Shia...he'll be THAT eponymous.

them set it in space with a ctyogenically frozen batman who gets discovered 300 years in the future ( along with a nemesis reporter) by history students of the future hunting for old relics. After he is thawed he breaks out into a facist filled rage and pushes one girls head into the liquid nitro then crushes it . He gets destroyed later only to have nan-technology forge him ( along with the metal bench he was killed on) into an uber fighting machine ..... well ? :-)

But my thinking would be that this should happen only after Nolan is finished with this project. The formula for a Dark Knight Returns flick would have to be reminisent of Sin City so Robert Rodriguez and Frank Miller would be at the helm. Clive Owen could play the Superman of the future and Jack Nicholson could actually reprive the Joker role. Following the Dark Knight we could go right into a Batman Beyond flick.

William H Macy as the Riddler much in the vein of the Zodiac killer. Here is the pitch. The mob was been weakened greatly. The Joker is in Arkham. But what if The Joker whispered secrets to the Zodiac. He knows that some of the cops are dirty. He knows that Batman lied to cover up Two-Face. And the Joker is still an agent of chaos, he has a protege who is willing to tip off Gotham. What if the people don't trust the cops? They don't trust Batman? Who can they trust?

The Dark Knight was leaden and pompous and very ho-hum. Ledger managed to elevate it beyond the mediocre, but it's not a transcendent film, not by a long stretch. If you believe so then Hollywood has beaten you.

Batman is clearly a lucrative franchise for Warner Bros. As with the comics, there could be multiple film iterations - interpretations - of Batman, with a new Batman adventure in theaters every summer.

I say bring back Burton and Keaton for one final romp through the nuthouse and then give Aronofsky and Rourke the keys to Wayne Manor until Nolan is ready to take another swing at it.

Batman 3 is not on hold so Nolan can make another film, but because he is waiting until scientists can cure death and raise Heath Ledger from the grave.
He is also in talks with the Estate of Cesar Romero with a view to raising his corpse to play the Joker's father.
Nolan has also stated that he wants to revive the careers of Jake Lloyd and Haley Joel Osment so that they can ply Dick Grayson and Jason Todd.

Rumors are that the only way the studio could bring back the Joker (a long time intent) would be in a splashy manner. There is only one way you can replace a role made iconic by a performance and a tragedy and that's by casting another icon. Keaton has proven he has the chops of a pasty prankster thanks to his turn as Beetlejuice. That, plus the sinister vibe that comes from having a former Batman play his iconic nemesis places this choice over the top. The studio is also in talks to sign former Ringling Brother clown Kevin C. Carr (famous for his role portraying the elves in Polar Express) as the Riddler.

How do you save someone who is terrified of you? 3 and a half years after TDK and the "Bat-murders" are out of control. People are blaming Batman for every unsolved murder, every missing person. Into this comes the Riddler. Obsessed with "solving" Batman and happy to kill to do it. Catwoman, using Gotham's fear of costumes to steal. And the Huntress who is determined to help Batman out of guilt. But the Riddler will make a fatal error. He is going to get the one person who "knows" Batman. He's going to talk to the Joker...

Bale is going to be playing Bruce Wayne, but they got Clooney to get his nipples on again for the batsuit. And yea, Shia is Robin. The iconic image of the batmobile driving out Knowles' ass is expected to generate an R rating for the upcoming feature.

Watching TDK for a second time on DVD, all its positives and negatives are enhanced. Everything with the Joker is dead on. Harvey Dent was as he should be. BatVoice: terrible. BatSonar: unnecessary. Two Face: needed his own movie or at least a better death. There's at least one more movie needed in the realistic-Batman milieu. I love the idea of an over the hill Batman, but can we wait a while until he's fighting Superman in robo-suit? If the 3rd movie naturally follows TDK, then there should be two villains, the city of Gotham and the Penguin (played by Ricky Gervais, just kidding).

The next one is Batman Ends. Batman still on the run, the mob crumbling, the city being overrun by "Joker Copycats," (basically a lot of the other rouges gallery) one such copycat named The Riddler surfaces and uses elaborate and cryptic clues to toy with Gordon and Batman. in the midst of all of this, a ray of light- People in Gotham have hit the breaking point, and are finally standing up for themselves, no longer intimidated. People are coming forth finally naming names, finally putting the worst behind bars. The corrupt police abating, and a new generation of good cops is volunteering at the department. Riddler is making his last ditch effort to solidify and control crime, and Batman, on the run, is the only one who can stop him. In the midst of this, Riddler reveals Batman's identity to the city. A final confrontation with Riddler and hired thug Bane leaves Batman triumphant but nearly crippled, and he and alfred flee into seclusion as Gotham heals, looking into a new dawn of no mob, clean police, and no masks. This marks the end of the franchise.oh, but a teaser reveals two face is alive in arkham.

In 2025, Nolan and Bale re-team one last time for a "Rocky Balboa/Live Free Die Hard/Kingdom of Crystal Skull" esque "one final latter day sequel," and this one really is an adaption of Dark Knight Returns, featuring the Return of Joker and Two Face, and ending with Batman's maybe death. That's what I'd like to see.

Henson Productions has been approached to do a movie to fill in the time it will take for Bale and company to do the third one. The working title is "The Dark Muppet." Kermit the frog as Bruce/Batman. Miss Piggy as Catwoman. Gonzo as the Riddler. And Animal as Bane. This will be played absolutely straight, so much so that an R rating is very likely if the script is followed. When Bane beats the stuffing out of Batman, he really beats the stuffing out of Batman. Kermit has been reported to already be in an intensive weight training program. If anyone knows any more details of this project, please come forward.

...and this is from a source VERY close to the people who made this up...
it will feature Batman at the age of 90. He's living a mostly virtual existence, a 3d expanse so realistic it makes the Matrix look like space wars. He is the virtual "crime czar" for not only Gotham, but the entire country. It's basically a desk job that lets him pretend he's healthy and physical when in actuality he's bed-ridden, like most of the rich who survived his generation. But what Gotham and the rest of the country does not know is that he's set up a hundred fully realistic Batmen that he can take over and "embody" through the worldwide wireless network. What he sees, his robotic selves see. What he imagines with his mind, they do. This is how he fights crime as Batman. He is expected to live on in some fashion, but through having his brain copied to a new robotic life form. A new body. A young man who worships the villains of Batman's past (and often acts as them in a virtual world), discovers his secret life and takes over all but one of The Batman's robotic bodies. He transforms most of them into all of Batman's famous foes and embodies them one by one. He destroys all archived "versions" of Bruce Wayne's brain and the only real copy is the one uploaded to the last remaining Batman "robot". But I don't want to spoil the end for you guys. My source is VERY trusted. In other words, he's a guy for sure. And he writes stuff. CONFIRMED!!

Direction entirely and made the Long Halloween. I would much rather see Batman having to SOLVE a Crime using his detective skills, rather than his cool James bond gagetry. I have loved the first two Nolan batmans, and the Dark Knight is just lightyears ahead of Begins, Love everything and a bag of chips. But I want something different , more challenging than another "BADGUY" Batman movie. The JOKER IS THE TOP of Batmans Rogues, no one, NO ONE comes close to Joker,So I would love it if it was ALL about BATMAN trying to solve a huge murder mystery, while fighting crime in the alleys of Gotham, and also fighting the cops who are hunting him since DK...NO VILLAIN. JUST BATMAN trying to do his thing. Being a detective, using his brains...and kicking some ass too.

Hey Guys, This story is the real deal, the next Batman movie isn’t going to be a direct sequel to The Dark Knight. The next Batman movie will be a Superman/Batman movie. Why? Because they (WB) want to do a reboot of the Superman franchise. No word on who will be playing Superman/Clark Kent yet but Christian Bale will be Batman/Bruce Wayne, and Gary Old man will return as Com. Gordon. Details about the plot are still vague, but Lex Luther is going to be the main villain. And apparently there will be a Victor Fries working for Lex Luther, setting up the storyline of the real Batman sequel. This movie will be co-directed bij Chris Nolan and Bryan Singer. Apparently Bryan Singer will direct the Batman parts and Chris Nolan the Superman parts.

After 30 years on the run a very rotunda Batman(Jack Black) buries his anger and anguish in tons of pizzas and boxes of Twinkies. All the meanwhile training a young ward by the name of Dick Grayson(Jonah Hill). A mysterious figure comes to Gotham, buying restate like Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Hostess, Little Debbie’s and Burger King and turning them into schools, parks and other menacing places where lives can get better. The Dark Knight returns for one last fight before his arteries clog up and he dies of a massive heart attack.

...as Batman/Bruce Wayne is one of the worst ideas I have ever heard here and I've heard literally hundreds -- maybe thousands -- of terrible ideas in talkback and AICN over the years.

In fact, the only idea worse than that is Clint Eastwood as Batman. Seriously, who the fuck would, in their own minds, actually allow the icon Eastwood to "become" Batman/Wayne while watching the movie? You wouldn't for an instant stop believing that Clint was anyone else but Clint. Clint in a tux. Clint in a funny mask-helmet with pointy ears. Clint punching an old man in clown make-up.

Geek, please.

He comes back and Alfred tells him Rachel Dawes did not die, but has since become engaged and had a kid with some chap who was under used in the X men films. Brue then mopes about to meloncholic music, pouting but then occasionaly lifts something big around an explosion to say ACTION SCENE. All the actors are recast so they look ten years younger even though the film is set when time has passed, the film costs around $200 million but grosses around $400 mill so then KILLS THE FRANCHAISE.

Harry... You are the first person anyone in Hollywood turns to when they want to inform the fans of the latest news. You've got the ears of the influential in the corridors of power. Your word thunders down from on high and all the studios snap to attention.

SEE WHAT I DID THERE? I MADE SHIT UP!

Harry, you're a cock. All you do on this fucking site is post complete bullshit and rumour. I'll give you this, you do get the occasional AICN EXCLUSIVE about your impending stomach-stapling or your choice to go contacts over glasses. Fascinating stuff.

Jettison Bale. Yes, jettison the star of the critical darling and the second highest grossing film of all time. Jettison him in favor of leaving the current story incomplete. Jettison him in favor of telling the story of a decrepit old man in a rubber suit. Next you'll be telling everyone they should jettison Downey Jr from Iron Man 2 in favor of telling the story of a broken down, rusted, dented junkheap. And have him played by Warren Beatty.

Practice what you preach, Harry. If you want to complain about other websites, you need to stop posting bullshit rumours yourself.

personally i would love to see TDKR done in the style nolan has created for these films, but i don't think it will happen. as for villain, most of bat's rogues are too far fetched to fit into these realistic films. penguin, croc, freeze, clayface, ivy...all have some far fetched ability or appearance that just wouldn't work. this leaves Riddler, Mad Hatter, selena kyle/Catwoman, Talia Head, and my favorite for this film, HUSH. the mad hatter is eliminated because while not as far fetched as the others, he's just silly. catwoman has already been used, and unlike the joker i do not see much variation in a performance. but if the WB bosses and nolan decide to use her, i choose rachel mcadams. she has an old fashioned quality that i think selena kyle needs and a sexiness catwoman deserves. NO ANGELINA JOLIE! the riddler can be updated easily. he could be a cyber terrorist holding gotham hostage. he would leave riddles as clues. but he should be the pawn in someone else's bigger game. that person should be either talia or hush. talia (i picture someone tall, exotic and statuesque, but cannot think of an actress that fits that description) can be brought in as a rival for both bruce's company and his affections, only to be revealed as the daughter of ra's al ghul and she is exacting her revenge for the death of her father. hush (should be someone you would never expect, someone meek and nebbish) was a childhood friend of bruce who secretly hates him and discovers he is batman. he could be using the riddler as a distraction while plotting the down fall of wayne enterprises, the wayne family and batman in one genius stroke.

Dick Grayson's parents are killed by Two Face who also rapes him. Bruce Wayne swears to protect Dick, who seduces Bruce on the first night at the mansion. They're both discovered by Alfred, who joins. Bruce trains Dick in body-to-body for the next weeks - in all ways possible. In the meanwhile Two-Face joins forces with newcumer Riddler and Catwoman who hides a well hung twist in her tight costume. They celebrate their union with a huge orgy in a sauna. Dick and Bruce show up, join, then move away to get dressed in their Batman and Robin costumes to give a good punishment in the ass to the villains. Alfred monitors everything from the batcave as he hacked the bathhouse security cams. With Christian Bale, Sir Michael Caine and Aaron Eckhart reprising their roles, and Brad Pitt as the Riddler and Marilyn Manson as Catwoman.

Mickey Rourke? No...no no no no. Awful notion. It would be a laughing stock. While Bale isn't perfect, he is the BEST person to don the bat suit on the big screen. Period. Sure, none of us like the voice...but his acting and feigned aloofness work perfectly for the Bruce Wayne role. But Mickey Rourke? That's a hell no. Funny notion, though. Now - to those that are saying it's "absolutely Catwoman because of Morgan Freeman's line", well you missed two other 'easter eggs. Nolan put THREE easter eggs' in TDK - if you look at the door of the burning firetruck as the cops come around the corner during the chase scene, there's a Penguin painted on it. If you look at one of the newspapers plastered along the wall by the theater, there's a big question mark on it. AND, yes, Morgan Freeman does respond that the suit would protect Batman just fine 'from cats'. Nolan was having fun showing that a third movie COULD feature any of the venerable and well known comic villains. BUT he has NOT written a single word of another screenplay and NO ONE has been cast. These are the facts and they are not in dispute.

Screw Dark Knight Returns, I think it's overrated too.

Here's how it works: Bats on the run from the cops. Riddler shows up, but we play him dour and serious (i.e. anti-Joker) ... he's just compelled to send clues to the police. Bats is in full-bore detective mode. Riddler is doing three things, though: besides his own clues, he's trying to get the police to Batman, and he's also setting up a second villain who we won't even see in this film ('You didn't solve all the clues' 'What do you mean?' 'When you figure it out, it'll send a chill up your spine'). So we have a dance of Bats vs Cops vs Riddler. I think it can work, but obviously it needs to be written very well.

I think they are wanting to pick up some good ideas cause they have none. we know they read this shit

ok, here's a freeby

The penguin - a fat grot of a man - womanizer, but rich and powerful and able to start bringing crime back to gotham. Bruce wayne/batman is torn whether he should bring down the penguin because while he's bringing crime back to gotham, he's also bringing business to wayne enterprise somehow. or he's opening up channels to crime lords batman and the police were not able to get hold of before.

meanwhile, the penguin employs the riddler as a decoy to trap batman so that penguin can uncover his true identity. which he does!

meanwhile, bruce is still pining over rachel. but as batman he's taken an interest in a mysterious cat-woman. and in this movie we see nothing of her origins or even her alternate persona. she's as mysterious as the headlines say and batman become obsessed with tracking her down.

The riddler, however, starts taking his job too seriously and makes batman a riddled offer against the penguin.

in all this, batman is tracked down by robin. a kid about 14 who wants to be batmans side kick. but batman is just not interested. THAT can be the extent of robin. crappy old costume and all

so thats something, no?

When he screamed at Ra's Al Ghul it was the superhero Batman. there was alot of it in Dark Knight but they should go back to the one in Begins. Also I noticed the majority, like 90% of people complaining about Bale's voice in Begins were Kevin Conroy fans, truth is, Bale sounded a billion times more badass than Conroy in Begins.

he may be good in a stand alone batman movie and there is definately a good story, a good film to take from(influence), a filmmaking style but it's a singular film. It ain't the follow up to the Dark Knight. It isn't the end of a trilogy. and end of a trilogy doesn't mean making Dark Knight Returns. If Nolan makes Dark Knight returns it will be in like a decade and the only way it would work is to make a Nolanized version of the story(ie the gangs not being so 80's) but it only works if Superman is in it too.

That is what I would like to see. He doesn't have to be a man living in a refrigerated suit, like in the comics. He doesn't need to shoot freeze rays. Make him a man who who is frozen emotionaly on the inside, because of his wife, and the people who crossed him when he was trying to save her. He could be a scientist who uses freezing chemicles, like liquid nitrogen, on his enemies... but in a realistic manner. It can be done. Oh, and for the voice... I would have it that his throat was slit when he tried to save his wife during the experiment, and that when he escapes from the hospital, he needs a voicebox device to speak. That could allow him too sound sinister, like in the toon. Freeze is such a tragic character... I really think he can be done justice in the Nolan universe.

...that SIN CITY would be the film that would haunt BATMAN BEGINS? (node/19700) I quote, "It's hard to want to see BATMAN done any other way than the Miller way." Any true comic book enthusiast understands that a character like Batman is open to a great amount of interpretation, as Frank Miller himself claimed in the 1989 documentary COMIC BOOK CONFIDENTIAL.

The truth is you've never shown much enthusiasm for Nolan's contribution to Batman cinema. You've been fair enough to give the films good reviews but you've always seemed generally reserved about them. Would you really jettison Christian Bale, the star who has finally brought the franchise critical credibility and secured a place for Batman in cinema history? Are you that eager to toss this Batman interpretation into the dustbin?

You fucking numbskulls. I hate people who are so closed minded that they jump on the "batmans voice is stooopid!" bandwagon, not realizing its brilliance. How does it feel to be so easily pursueded by the ridiculous notion that his voice is silly. FUCK YOU. Its purely badass. Whats funny is I only hear this from people online. Its accepted down here on the streets that its uber-cool. In the comics his voice is described as the sound of 'glass being crushed' and other very similar descriptions. Its well known in the comics that he has a VERY different batman voice and that its low, growly as hell, and tough. Fuck the haters.

I kinda like the idea of telling the story of how Bruce Wayne wraps up his career as Batman. A grizzled, scarred and battle weary 60-something Batman giving it one last go before hanging up the cowl. Very, very interesting indeed.

Gross name, but funny nonetheless. I disagree, I do find it tough. Its almost a street voice. He must appear greater than human. I do like Keatons voice, but with Bale its a Batman of much greater intensity. It just sucks to hear people talk so much shit, when I loved it. Huge batman fan, and when I heard him talk I was like "HOLY SHIT, THEY GOT IT RIGHT" and I hear this sentiment a lot... except online.

I can understand and accept that Wayne would need to conceal his voice lest he be discovered , but the scene when he and Morgan Fox are in the basement / batcave / control room , talking face to face , with no other interlopers in the room , yet he still insists on speaking in that BatVoice. All I could think of throughout the entire scene was . "HE KNOW WHO YOU ARE ,HE KNOWS YOU ARE BRUCE WAYNE. WHY SPEAK LIKE THAT ?" Can anybody explain that ? It just seems silly to me . If you ignore the whole Millionaire Playboy dressed as a bat , beating up criminals thing of course.

Good point, but also covered in the comics. When Wayne is in costume, he is immersed in the character of Batman and won't break it for anything. Thats the commitment to the persona he has. Its a discipline necessary to become more than a man.

If Nolan had included something to practically explain the change in voice, there would be no issue.

Ok, go with me here... if the Batsuit included something along the lines of some sort of Mission Impossible style voice modifier, it would help you accept the change in voice and also the when he's alone with people who know his true identity.

Nolan went to pains to explain the gadgets in Begins. He could've addressed this easily.

And you're right about the conversation with Morgan Fox-- why didn't he tell him "KNOCK THAT SHIT OFF. I'M RIGHT HERE MOTHERFUCKER. I KNOW YOU!!"

The whole "CHARACTER" concept of Bruce immersing himself in the Batman persona is interesting-- yet very hard to achieve on screen. It may work in print but thats just sort of assinine to expect the audience to go along with you on that unless you really wanted to push him into the INSANE territory.

Its not the growl or the tone. I get that-- its the drawn out words and the volume that bug the fuck out of me

The rest of the villains are stupid. I'm not a comic book fan by far, I just like movies. But glanced over the list of villains and they are either too far fetched or just flat out lame. I'd hope they would just keep the joker in the asylum the entire next film until the end. Then he could escape as part of a depressing ending that leaves stuff open but also is kind of a downer after Batman dies trying to save the city.......which they probably won't do. I'm kind of lucky I guess in that I like the new movies and don't care or know if they follow the comics, so killing Batman could be sacrilege comic book-wise, but as an end to Nolan's films it would be awesome if done right.

Like another poster said, he is in the batman persona, but in dark knight it can be taken further. that by that point he is becoming the iconic batman from the comics, the one that is batman nearly all throughout, just immersed in this person who he really is. That little bit of hope he had as bruce wayne is for the most part dead by that part in dark knight. In the comcis he becomes so immersed in it that he doesn't get out of costume, he's batman most of the time. etc

Regardless of what Nolan says, I am skeptical of his ability to or interest in introducing characters into this world that are two cartoonish (e.g. Mr. Freeze, Poison Ivy, Man-Bat, Clayface, even Catwoman) and/or those who would be considered too obscure to the general audience (something he could afford to do in the first but not the third film in the trilogy). I know a lot of people have their hopes up about the Nolans reaching into the deep villain stable. I see it as too much of a risk—especially considering the scale of the success of TDK. With that in mind, I feel like Nolan almost has no choice but to resurrect Harvey Dent (not too big of a stretch considering the series’ already established fake-death fetish) and maybe introduce a minor—but no less known—villain. I’m thinking a more realistic version of Penguin (Nolan’s insistence that Penguin will not be in this series notwithstanding) as a mob boss to fill the hole, now that all of the mob bosses are dead. The only other plausible introduction would, I guess be Riddler, but I don’t think it’s a good idea. One thing I would suggest is that the Nolans avoid writing any women characters into the script. They suck at writing for women. The Prestige and TDK should be proof enough of that.

No, you didn't ask, but here: The Joker - Adrian Brody (who might have been rumored in the first place I think) Catwoman - anyone but Angelina Jolie. Highly overrated and annoying to watch. Mr. Freeze - not going to happen, but I'd use the kid who played Noi. (obviously the setting and look of him in that movie made that choice) The Riddler - probably Rufus Sewell (spelling?) - (It's really funny, but I keep picturing a mean Stephen Merchant...which I've never seen) Robin - hope they never do, but if they did, I'd pick ..... nah, just don't do it

...that the more flamboyant villains won't work in this franchise. This includes Penguin, Catwoman and more I'm sure. I'm not a cb Batman follower so I'm not up on all the DC villains he's faced but the Joker was an excellent combination of real and over the top and I love love love the "agent of chaos" theme they gave him. Joker absolutely MAKES Dark Kinhgt for me and I love every moment the character is on the screen. That giant asshole Death had to come in and take such a profound talent like Ledger away! Fuck off, Death!!! Wanker!

But we need this type of villain..based in reality with any eccentricity justified by actual lunacy but not over the top flamboyant or, for lack of better words, too "comic book villain"-y. Pfiefer Catwoman was certainly pleasant to look at but would be an exceedingly distracting character in Nolan's Batman. Overall, to me a Catwoman character is sort of like the Robin character, more tongue and cheek and more levity in an otherwise very dark universe (Batman, Dark Knight, etc); you DC purist would know better than me on this but wasn't Robin added later on when there was "complaints" about Batman being to dark and brutal? So they brought in some doofy boy scout live in boyservant nonsense that couldn't EVER fly in our modern culture?)

The Joker fits perfectly in that Nolan Batman world but these others are far too day-glo or far too distracting in and of themselves.

Catwoman or Robin added to Nolan's franchise would deflate the entire thing within 10 seconds of screen time. Only a singular work of brillinace could get these characters on the screen in any way not even a little laughable. And I just hate the idea of the Robin character almost completely. Just dumb and far too ambiguously gay in the 21st century.

However....Phillip Seymour Hoffman is the perfect Penguin and I've always thought Brad Douriff would have made an excellent Riddler and still could even if he's a bit older(better than Carey, for sure) and he's a brilliant actor too...he's gotta be younger than Nicholson when he did his Joker version...

But I stick by my theory that any of the more "cartoony" Batman/DC villains in Nolan's Batman would be a terrible distraction. Fortunately, my guess is Nolan et al, are fully aware of this and won't gutterball it. Rachel Weiz is very beautiful and very talented and who wouldn't want to watch her slink around in skin tight leather...but the character of Catwoman has no place in Nolan's Batman. Penguin might work but not Meredith nor Devito's penguin...Hoffman is perfect casting but how to actually portray the character...that's the tricky part. This isn't Spiderman where a cartoonish villain can work...these are crime dramas that happen to have costumed heroes and villains...I have trust in Nolan...he's obviously earned it...but my guess is Nolan probably will pull out of doing a 3rd film due to all of the problems with coming up with a good progressive story character-wise and not just another notch in the belt with some big named actor showing up as the draw instead of a great story and the desire to find out what is happeneing with these characters, etc...

why do Catwoman and Penguin have to be 'cartoony'?

though it was just a rumor, the idea of Philip Seymour Hoffman as a British arms dealer, nicknamed the Penguin could work - it would just be a different interpretation. And 'Catwoman' doesn't have to have magical cat-healing powers. She can just be a really, really good thief with a cat fetish. Just because Burton made them over the top doesn't mean they have to be. Hell, I'm even of the opinion that there's nothing wrong with Robin as a concept, even in the Nolanverse. It's the execution that makes a difference. Robin works when it's about Bruce taking responsibility for another human being, training a protoge, feeling guilt and identification over the death of the boys' parents, longing for the family he'll never have. And the issues of child endangerment would be an interesting challenge. But it has to be played in the exact opposite of the Schumacher sense - nothing creepy or NAMBLAish, no flourescent costumes. It doesn't even have to be Dick Grayson - in fact, Tim Drake would be better (no acrobats). Maybe even Jason Todd and kill him off! Anyway, these characters are archetypes. They're not set in stone. Nolan can do what he wants.

Really? Can we stop with the catwoman shit? I can't think of a more boring pile of shit than catwoman or any of the half-bad/half-good idiots that populated some of the later batman movies. Stop it. 1 villain, 1 hero, maybe a good guy who gets fucked over like Harvey Dent's character or a slightly less evil henchman of the villain. No more fucking catwoman. Shut up with catwoman. Shut up with Robin. Fuck! Although I'm definitely in favor of Keira Knightley as the bat pole as a previous Tber recommended.

He's an interesting character in the comics and one of the few villians who can actually match Batman physically. I wouldn't do the whole back breaking thing but he could wear Batman out by letting the criminals out of the asylum and then throw him a serious beating like he did in Knightfall.
Cartoony
by funwithwords
Dec 18th, 2008
01:15:29 PM
For the purposes of this, I will define cartoony as any character whose signature trait will require too much of an origin story. One of the reasons Scarecrow, and even Joker, worked in the context of this universe is that A: there was a clear element of the real to them, and B: No backstory. Both characters were fully matured as themselves when the movie began. There was no need for a character arc with either of them. They just were, and it was up to Batman to defeat them. Same goes for all villains except Dent, which is another reason the Dent thing was wasted in my mind. Why bother doing an origin for a character that you’re not even going to allow to mature? Nobody is going to buy Catwoman in this universe. They just won’t. If Catwoman were to show up, the only way for it to work would be for her to be an incredibly minor character, on par with the copy cat Batmen in TDK. I do think Penguin could work. He’s really the only character I think could work. I still think you need Dent to come back and really be Two-Face. Maybe he was in a coma, and they gave him skin grafts, so he wouldn’t have to be all flayed Dent.
No one can top Pfeiffer as catwoman.

These casting choices, real or imagined, would breathe life into a franchise that, after only TWO films, has been run into the ground!! Batman Begins, tired, pedestrian origin story with a hackneyed villain straight out of dinner theater!! And The Dark Knight? PLEASE! Never before have I seen a darker, more depressing pile of monosyllabic GARBAGE! First off, the movie was like 20 hours long with no plot! Don't kid yourself, people. I defy any of you to explain what that movie was about! And Heath Ledger? I wish everyone would stop fudging up their breeches for this guy's horrible ONE NOTE performance. He sounded like every jackoff in high school doing their piss-poor impression of Nicholson. Simply dreadful! So, to me, every one of these casting choices is nothing less than inspired. Shia as Robin would ROCK! He'd definitely bring some badass youthful energy to the series. The dull, monotone Bale needs some spark to play off of, and Shia would definitely deliver. And Eddie Murphy as the Riddler would mean one thing: this series would finally have a villain worthy of the ticket price!

no. that would suck. i love TDKR as much as the next guy, but that final monologue on Dark Knight just has to be followed up on. The audience needs to know how Batman came to be respected instead of feared. How he got back on good terms with Gordon. How the multitude of other theatrical villains came to gotham. if begins and dark knight are all we get, it will be a major disappointment to me. Like FOTR and two towers minus ROTK, or Matrix and Reloaded without Revolutions, or Star Wars and TESB without ROTJ... oh, wait, those last two would have been better left alone (yes i just said ROTJ sucks). And TDKR wouldn't translate to film well. Especially through a Chris Nolan lens. If watchmen is as awesome as it looks to be, maybe they should let Zach Snyder do TDKR in a couple of years with a 60 year old Michael Keaton. That would be sick and you know it. Also the DTV cartoon dvd's they've been shelling out have been pretty good. DC and Marvel alike should start making animated versions of great stories like TDKR. Because an animated battle between old Bruce and the gang leader or Supes would own.

Look, the purpose of Robin (and Speedy, and Cub et al) is specific and comic-oriented: young boys reading the comic put themselves in the place of the child sidekick. A movie doesn't require a proxy like that; tptb didn't realize that when they gave the keys to Antichrist Goldsman and Schumacher. Robin is pointless to the movies, and Nolan knows that.

I really liked Bruce staying in the Penthouse in TDK. The Manor was always so remote, and with the city of Gotham being such an important 'character' in the movie, placing Wayne in the middle of it was a great idea. For the next film, do you think they should stay in the penthouse (would have appeal since Batman would be hiding in the city) or move back into the Manor?

I don't know, I've never been a big fan of the manor. In Batman Year One, at the very beginning, Wayne thinks that he shouldn't have taken the plane back to Gotham, he should've taken the train. He should've been among the people. It's the same thing with the manor: you're isolated from the city you're protecting. It's a fortress of solitude, which isn't really in keeping with Batman's character.

DK was adapted from The Long Halloween and so to end the trilogy it should be Dark Victory cause it can tie things up from the previous films. After the end of DK jumping 30 years would make no sense.

The Penguin is an aristocratic-type who, despite his odd appearance, prides himself on his intelligence and his breeding. Making him some sewer-dwelling freak who eats raw fish and was raised by actual Penguins was ten shades of retarded, however amusing I found the movie as a kid. It made about as much sense as having a brooding, muscular vigilante played Michael Keaton and having a lanky, lethal Joker played by a paunchy, 50 year old Jack Nicholson. As standalone films Burton’s Batman flicks have their charm but they have no relevance or respect to the Batman mythology.

Its snide little comment like "Burton’s Batman flicks have their charm but they have no relevance or respect to the Batman mythology," that breed the backlash toward TDK. Most people can give two fucks about the Batman mythology or the funny books they are based on. The films and the 60s tv show are all that exist for most casual viewers. Every single incarnation has relevance to the Batman mythology-- and yes, that includes Burton's version. Lets not forget, Nolan's films would probably not exist were it not for Burton taking the story on screen into much darker territory.

with Jet Li as Boba Fett, more small flashbacks of old rumors gone by. Attacking British tabloids is the cheap way of generating response. Its the pot calling the kettle black. I still quote Nicholson from Batman, TDK has no memorable quotes and I do not recall Jokes from the one called Joker. It was a fine film it reminded me of French Connection for some reason or any gritty 70s cop flick, it just had a couple of loons running around in suits and makeup. Batman Returns is a smart film it should have been a winter release, though. I love the way Burton split Waynes character up as his own villians. Plus it had style, even Batman and Robin had style and you see money being spent. Most of the DK shots looked like Mean Streets or Heat.

I didn't know anything about Black Mask but wikipedia has convinced me that black mask would make a cool villian for the next one if Nolan's directing - his thing with "false faces" would be a good way to explore corruption in Gotham and the two identities Batman/Bruce Wayne has. They've kind of painted themselves into a corner because by discarding all the goth comic bookness that shows up in the Tim Burton flicks (the only films to get that aspect) they limit the villians they can use and get rid of a lot of the setting/world that makes Batman Batman. It's like Nolan got the darkness right, but left the comic book exaggeration/fantasy/quirkines s behind. Obviously you can go too far and it becomes a cartoon. But I think it needs some more comic bookness. If most of Batman's rogues gallery won't work in this world, or have to be altered beyond recognition, then it's really not such a great translation of Batman to the screen. Dark Knight was good and the Joker worked. But I hope they get someone else to do the next one and open up the films visually. And get someone else to play Batman...

i thought the city shots in DK looked very clean and HEAT-like. In the next outing i'd like nolan to take the gritty urban realism to a new level, by perhaos having batman stop, look down, and cuss before spending an awkward ten minutes ineffectively trying to scrape a dog's egg off his kevlar boot using a pavement, or maybe stopping in an alleyway to take a piss while checking the texts on his phone.

The problem with Burton

other than his nearly complete inability to tell a story, is that he did not the material seriously (not that the film itself has to be as serious as TDK, but the material should be played as straight as possible) and made a campy film. A good costumed adventurer story should be executed in a somewhat magic realistic manner. I believe Burton's films are lightweight and thin compared to Nolan's films.

Also, I love the TV show, and want it on DVD ASAP, but it is a genius comedy and does not include the inherent darkness of the character.

most if not all of his films have storytelling problems, the characters, the world, and how much Burton hates what is perceived as normalcy is what I pay for, it fit his Batman films. I see no where but down and /or the lighter side of Batman from now on, money is tight, they want a sure bet. Fanboys have just had their Empire, Temple of Doom, and Godfather 2 - combined- now prepare for Ewoks, non-threatening Nazis, perhaps a musical number to attract females and a happy ending. Maybe we will see a Batcave in this one, woo hoo. I do not think this run will make it to four films.

...not really in the mood to read all 500 posts but someone mentioned a villain-less ("Rogue-less") movie. That would demolish all known genus and species of ass. Just Batman struggling with how to save the people that are concerned with stopping him. The closest thing to a villain would be copycat Jokers (a counter point to copycat Batmen in TDK) that vaguely resemble the popular Bats villains.

was the best Bruce Wayne and Batman. Physically Bale is better as he is taller and "badder" in every way. However Bale's acting (and the material he is given) depends on him being too wooden. With Keaton, whenever he was Bruce, you saw that he was truly uncomfortable and wanted to just get back to the cave to do his detective work. Bale? He's just an actor. Very boring to watch him try hard to be a playboy Bruce Wayne. His Batman would have worked if Nolan kept him more in the shadows and didn't make him slur his speech in almost every scene. Keaton would tend to whisper his words or go into "the alternate" mode when he was the Batman, that's Batman, you don't need a wrestler's voice to do it.

Super-hero comic book movies would not exist as we know them today without Tim Burton's 1989 master-opus. Without that film, filmmakers would still be trying to figure out how to make live action super-heroes look cool in spandex while hoofing it down Broadway and Main. To all you false idolists worshipping at the throne of TDK, watch the '89 Batman, then watch both of Nolan's Batman movies and observe just how much Nolan has borrowed, retained from, or referenced Mr. Burton's now underrated movie masterpiece. The Batsuit, the Bat-line gun, the "I'm Batman" line. Notice how so many Joker scenes from TDK resembled those from '89 Batman, such as Joker crashing the mob boss meeting, Joker and Batman having a western-style standoff on Main Street, Joker cornering Batman's romantic interest, Joker falling to his defeat. What are Nolan's films but more realistic emo versions of Burton's movies?

Would have been PERFECT if they gave Bale more interesting things to say and more interesting things to do as Bruce Wayne. Imagine Keaton replacing Bale in TDK. What a great movie (barring Keaton's age). I also thought Two Face was played pretty boringly and badly by Eckhart. Sure it got the character "right" but after he became Two Face he died off without having any moral dilemmas, so he's not really "Two Face"d at all. And we NEVER got to know what made him such a hero in the eyes of the public, we were just told he is a hero. What made HIM different and more cunning than all the other DAs before him? They should have shown some election tidbits in the beginning, proving to us that he is the hope of the future for Gotham, rather than jumping right in and having him already bringing down the mob.

That too was very weak in TDK. Other than some of the speeches that the Joker made I felt everyone else was thrown aside and said predictably everything you think they will say. I never really like BR but now just rewatching it, I enjoy the clever little arguments that Bruce had with Christopher Walkes' character. "If his parents hadn't 86'ed him you two might have been bunkies in prep-school". It's stuff like that which is missing from Nolan's world. Joker was written with no limits but everyone else was too self aware and didn't have anything interesting to say (other than to look for bad guys or to die for dramatic effects).

ANY of Two Face's lines in TDK. He just too bland and predictable (sure since we're comic book geeks we knew he was going to be scarred and go crazy). Dent's character was written as too much of a straight arrow that the first encounter between him and Bruce at the restaurant was just plain BORING. We KNOW that he and Rachel are together and Bruce is bitter because he has to be Batman but let's not make Dent out to be another boring Boy Scout. "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villain." Such cheese shouldn't be praised.

That's a great idea. Have very low key/low profile villains perhaps. We can finally have a Batman movie and not a Joker movie. Maybe even show that Gotham HAS changed in the end by having copycats Batmen saving Bruce's life. Any way they do it the next movie needs to be extremely far out there in order to be of success. I can't be another cat and mouse game or another movie where Bale does his serious face while the camera pans out (Can't believe we never got to see him sulk in TDK, just barely a sobbing scene after Rachel's death).

If they didn't feel the incessant need to gang-up on a popular movie most people love. Its just not their nature not to trash it and say "we were decieved! the emperor has no clothes!" This is a fucking debate about the perception of reality, NOT reality itself. Ever admit the possibility that you could be wrong? And don't feed that right back to me because I've already admitted that possibility. I've rewatched Batman '89 and I just don't dig it. I was there, opening day, in the summer of 89 when it opened. That same timeframe when Last Crusade, Ghostbusters 2, and UHF all came out. It was a great time. So don't tell me that I didn't grow up with it. And revisiting it.. its corny, lame, not interesting, batman is a short little pussy, too much time is spent on the joker, he doesn't resemble the joker from MOST of the comics, etc. I'm done.

by m_reporter
Dec 18th, 2008

Bruce Wayne is like what, in his early 30's in TDK? They should do a Dark Knight Returns type of deal, where Batman is retired at the start. He's retired because at the end of TDK he cleaned Gotham up, and the only real criminal left was himself.

So the movie starts like 10 years after the events of TDK, and Gotham is heading for another crime wave, which forces Bruce to resurrect Batman. Now... This scenario gives you justification to re-cast the Joker without screwing up the continuity or fucking up anything Ledger built up in TDK. Hell, you could even justify changing Joker's personality (doing something else than what Heath did) by putting him in Arkham for 10 years...

Daydreaming is so fun.

I think I can go back to accepting Burton's Bat-films. And even Schumacher's. If you view them all as "Elseworlds"-type stories. Think about it. The Batman in the movies never perfectly matches the Batman in the comics. But elements are there. 1966 Batman. Nolan's Batman. The Animated series. All just different versions of the same character...
And regarding Robin...

The kid, Jim Gordons son, will become a Robin of sorts in the next movie. He obviously idolizes Batman. By the time the next movie comes around, and if they allow story-time to pass between films, Little Jimmy could potentially fill the niche between Barbara Gordon sneaking out under her father's nose to go sidekick for Batman (and you KNOW Gordon always knew. He just trusted Batman enough to know that his little girl would be safe under Batman's watch), and Carrie Kelly in Dark Knight Returns, tal=king it upon herself to be Batman's sidekick after Batman saved her life. You could take the principles of both of those great female characters, and apply them to Commisioner Gordon's son, and create a new Robin character. He might not even be necessarily fighting at Batman's side, until maybe mid-movie, if at all. Also, the gangs element was introduced in Dark Knight. I see DKR/Warriors-type gangs. Jokers, Sons of the Batman, mutant... Great place to adapt certain elements for the next movie to be titled The Drk Knight Returns.

How is a story about a porn producer making a XXX Sarah Palin parody anything but a bullshit story? You don't usually cover porn and god knows that story had nothing to do with the merits of the candidates. There was also the coax headline about the creator of that Geena Davis TV show criticizing Palin. There was nothing newsworthy in that story. The series was long cancelled, Rod Lurie had no more insight into the election than any other celebrity, and it was never a show that AICN readers cared about to begin with. It will never happen, but damn...think of it. Darren Aronofsky came *this* close to helming BATMAN BEGINS. Him and Rourke teaming up to do THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, tying up the loose ends and finishing the series as a perfect story arc trilogy?

It will never happen, but dammit...would it not be grand? It could finish up and be the perfect superhero film series. I know I'm not the only one seriously worried about the third one blowing its wad, a la SPIDERMAN 3.

The one beacon of hope is Nolan saying "fuck you, studio...I'll make it when I want to make it." No rush job, no pre-chosen release date before the script is even written...

Just think, Fox - if only you gave the directors a bit of breathing room, you might not have had to Ratner up the third X-MEN and give your studio as much credibility as a two-dollar Bangkok whore...

You did not love this guy until Marv - until then, he was the guy who made a couple of good movies in the '80s who basically ended his career in HARLEY DAVIDSON AND THE MARLBORO MAN. But when Marv happened, and you went apeshit, the same way you didn't give a damn about Gerard Butler until you could see his twitching pecks and six-pack in 300. After that movie, Butler was talked about for everything. And now, because of THE WRESTLER, people are saying Rourke should play fucking BATMAN??? Are you people out of your minds???

With that face of his, it is the only Batman villain I would allow Rourke to play. The character is an ex-military man, Waylon Jones, changed by genetic experiments into a crocodile type creature. He would be completely covered up by makeup, and Batman would take him out in the first few minutes of the movie. Then we would be introduced to the real villains of the movie, like Johnny Depp as the Riddler and/or Megan Fox as the Catwoman.

The film opens, like TDK a full year following the previous film. Gordon is commissioner of police, but corruption within the ranks has not improved and may even be worse (along the lines of what it had been in Begins). Batman’s relationship with the police is a heightened version of what it was in Begins. Bowing to public pressures, the mayor has insisted that Gordon find and arrest the Batman, Gordon complies but many suspect that he’s sabotaging the investigation (which he is). While all of this is happening, Gotham is plagued by petty crime. Batman works double-duty trying to keep the streets safe and avoiding capture. The city’s criminals are disorganized. Small time. But a local club owner who has a penchant for tuxedos and umbrellas played by Robbie Coltrane (oh, I wish it could be Ned Beatty or Charles Durning) has seen the collapse of organized crime in Gotham (following the events of TDK) as an opportunity, and fills the void. He does not, however become a major adversary for Bats in this installment…if ever. Penguin as the most recognizable, least cartoonish villain remaining in the stable has to play some role in the next film although not necessarily as major adversary. He may fund some of the small time stuff, but he is not necessarily widely suspected of criminal activity by anybody (even Bats). I know that it’s been widely reported that Penguin will not be in the movies, but that really shows Nolan’s lack of understanding of the character beyond Danny Devito more than anything else. As for villains that actually would not work in the universe created by Nolan: Anybody whose origin requires some level of the supernatural or scientific absurdity (too many to name), anybody who’s real name is a pun relating to a character trait (e.g. no E. Nigma), anybody with a too comedic character trait (e.g. an obsession with Lewis Carroll), anybody who’s female, and any characters whose back stories would require a longstanding relationship with Bruce Wayne. As far as I see it, those are the criteria that Nolan and Co. will be using in determining the next villain. Through process of elimination, one of the largest and most fruitful comic villain stables gets whittled down pretty quickly. If you go on basis of remotely known characters, I think I just eliminated everybody but Penguin.

Batman:Rebirth Dr. Hugo Strange(Kevin Spacey) uses hypnosis and drugs to "treat" psychotic Kirk Langstrom(Elias Koteas) to make his own version of Batman, "Man-Bat". Not a genetic change, but a costume similar to Batman's, but with various retractable blades. The story is similar to "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari" with Dr. Strange controlling Langstrom. But with the difference being Langstrom has a normal life during the day, not controlled 24/7. Batman, still considered a fugitive, is now believed to be behind a series of brutal murders that where committed by Man-Bat. Commissioner Gordon starts to have his doubts about Batman and leads a task force to apprehend the Dark Knight. The mob will get involved when one of there own is killed by Man-Bat. They too believe Batman is responsible for the murders, and put a $2million price on his head. The movie will end with Langstrom killing Dr. Strange and turning himself in. He confesses to his crimes and the murders commited by Two-face in the previous movie. He knows he didn't do it, but he knows the city needs a hero,Batman. The movie ends with Bruce Wayne realizing that he will always be Batman, until the day he dies. Thus ending the trilogy, complete with cliches.

I don’t think the universe created for the movie is akin to the real world, but it exists in a universe that allows for some outlandish things, but draws a very real and discernable line. Pick a villain, it’s not difficult to determine on which side of the line they fall. In the created universe, men do not go through metamorphosis or mutation. There could not be a Killer Croc, a Man-Bat, Solomon Grundy, or the more advanced versions of Clayface. There cannot be a doctor who works with cryogenics whose name rhymes with freeze. There cannot be a Poison Ivy. Names with puns are obviously out: there can be no confounding villain named is Edward Nigma or a Greek mythology expert named Maxie Zeus. While Catwoman is real enough, she doesn’t fit the tone of the universe, either. Villains that can be in the next film: Penguin, Julian Day, Zsasz, and (I guess) Deadshot. Of these, I think Penguin and maybe Day work the best.

The key to understanding how superheros SUCCEED in film...is to "see" the sequential work of comic books/graphic novels as real, within the fantasy world the material is based. There was a time when Batman comic book fans discovered artist Neal Adams...as he made Batman more life-like, in collaboration with inker Dick Giordano and writer Denny O'Neil. (And who doesn't love the classic Marshall Rogers run in Detective Comics?) --Basically, Chris Nolan has given Batman the cinematic life that comic book artists Neal Adams, Dick Giordano, and Marshall Rogers were known for. Sure, movies and comics are different mediums. But I find some similarity in such vision, of movie directors and comic book artists (storyboards being the bond). And it is THIS element of artistic vision that Chris Nolan gets an "A+" ...as he made the fantasy feel more alive, more life-like, and perhaps as plausible as we will ever see Batman captured on film, given the outstanding performances involved. And for that, I will feel forever grateful to all who made THE DARK KNIGHT possible, which includes the visionary artists who came before. --Now, here's to hoping that Chris Nolan brings Superman into the mix. I already know that he can do it. Do you?

of the argument based around people bowing down to the altar of the REAL. If I am, I'll state for the record that I made no value judgement with regard to whether realer=better. Of course all film (even documentary, maybe especially documentary) is artificial. That has nothing to do with the argument I've been making with regard to the universe created for these films, which tonally shuts out the wide majority of Batman villains. I know how much people want to believe that this isn't the case, but it is. There is no room in this world for Mr. Freeze, Killer Croc, Riddler, Man-Bat, et cetera. If you can't imagine how terrible these movies would become if you introduced Killer Croc into the mix, then you don't have a very good imagination. If you can imagine a continuation of the established reality in which Catwoman plays a substantive role, then you are deluding yourself. You can like these movies for what they are--I have my problems with them personally--but you can't praise the movie as being a gritty crime thriller in the same category as Heat and then claim no continuity problems arise when you insert The Mad Hatter into the mix. Could great Batman movies be made that employ some of the lesser plausible characters? Of course. Could they be a continuation of this series? Simply put, hell no.

Then I said something to screw her up like "so you watch documentaries all the time" then she explains her love for romantic comedies, which of course inject more fantasy elements than any anything that a crystal skull could produce. On the subject of the Dark Knight they may have painted themselves in the corner with their real world villain plausibility strategy. The moment they go in a more fantasy direction is the moment everyone screams it has jumped the shark. ]

I heard from a guy that cleans the bathrooms at Warner Bros. Studios that Billy Dee Williams is in negotiations to return as Harvey Dent/ Two-Face and that the plot would revolve around him re-running for D.A. and winning because there was some confusion over the ballot forms. On a side note, I think the Riddler could be done. Bring back Joker using Johnny Depp and have the guy that Dent threatens to kill in the alley only to be saved by yours trully... I mean Batman, because I'm not Batman that would be insane... have that guy play Riddler. Have him be so psychotic that he actually announces to the city what he's going to do to it in retaliation for the situation with Dent only he does it in riddle form. Have the Joker taking advantage of the panic from Arkham luring me... ahem... I mean the Batman into a game of cat and mouse and the big finale/ plot twist would be **************************.

I strongly argue that adding more fantasy elements (and characters) to Nolan's next Batman movie...will NOT (I repeat, NOT) disconnect it from this Batman series, as long as Nolan and company remain consistent in this life-like style. Honestly, it is even EASY for me to imagine Superman in a movie like THE DARK KNIGHT, as long as the story supports it. This isn't a stage play, where a villain spouts a minute long dose of evil monologue (see Poison Ivy in BATMAN AND ROBIN). Although THE DARK KNIGHT isn't flawless, it was nearly perfect, in my eyes. If only footage existed for an extended cut, where those "plot-holes" are fleshed out with more outstanding performances, so that we (the audience) wouldn't have to make that mental leap, as to what happened at the party once Batman was out of the picture. Simple stuff, really. And while Bale continues to be great as Bruce Wayne, his final delivery of dialog (as Batman) with the Joker...was somewhat inconsistent with Nolan's overall style. (It was leaning into that over-the-top delivery that we too often get in superhero movies.) I suppose you could blame part of that on the dialog itself. And I imagine that when Bruce Wayne is Batman, he is less a performer...and his true self is revealed. His voice SHOULD have that growl...yet still sound sincere and honest, in relation to the character. As is, I still love THE DARK KNIGHT. It is fantastic. And it is my favorite superhero flick of all time, just as Batman is my favorite fictional character. As GREAT as it is, even as it sits on my shelf as one of my all-time favorite movies, I know that perfection is waiting. And I hope that it happens in my lifetime. And from my perspective, you follow this near masterpiece with something that could be even MORE,...with that being the involvement of Superman, while remaining consistent to Nolan's style. If it takes 50 scripts to find that ultimate script, so be it. But it shouldn't take long. The history of Batman and Superman, as friend or foe, is there...if you know where to look. Come on, Chris Nolan! If the hero has become the villain, then bring in Superman! THAT is what I would do.
harry knowles' idea and my own
by mourasantos

First of all, I think Harry's ideas for the next movies are good. Secondly, I have a very clearly defined idea of how the general broad-strokes should be put in place for the next couple of Batman flicks. First of all I think it should be said that I believe people have misinterpreted the fabric of “Nolan’s universe” as being one that adheres closely to our own. My take on the films is at odds with this approach. I agree that the two films Christopher Nolan produced are more realistic than any of the other “Batman’s” that preceded it… but people forget that the principal theme surrounding Batman Begins and continuing onto The Dark Knight is of one pertaining to escalation. I believe that if the series does go on with Nolan under the helm, he should continue to explore the Batman mythos as a world that becomes progressively weirder and more outlandish, so that towards the end of the series it is hard to recognize it as the same presented to us in the saga’s beginning: a world where Batman’s own existence repeatedly spawns a plethora of villainous characters continuously outdoing one another in their excentricity and implausibility so that nearing the series’ apex it manages not only to be more faithful to its fantastical comic-book source material as well as being able keep in tune with its original intent of elevating the films away from Burton’s mediocre pop-artistry. Given The Dark Knight’s sensational box-office gross I think it would be ideal to produce the next Batman as a two part spectacle filmed back to back a la Harry Potter’s last outing. The reasons for this decision abound: • The Batman franchise, if done right, has been proven beyond a shadow of a doubt to be a highly rentable one. It would not be much of a gamble for Warner Bros. to finance two pictures “in one sitting”. • Christian Bale’s performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman is invaluable for the series’ continuity and his contribution to further franchise installments should be insured contractually for two back-to-back films so that the actor’s age does not become a hindrance to the plausibility of the character. The long process between the realization of each singular installment would then be eliminated, thus discarding the rather ludicrous prospect of audiences watching a 40+ year old Batman performing feats of near physical impossibility. • The fact that two Batman films could be done and over with, in one fell swoop could open up the possibility for director Chistopher Nolan to expand his artistic ambitions. Once completed, he could then focus on other kinds of non-Batman related projects a director of his caliber is surely interested in. • Finally, the remote possibility of super-hero genre market saturation. In other words, the assumption that, however unlikely, the popularity of movies based on comic book properties will soon peak and therefore, the necessity to release them before such happens becomes a priority. With the necessity of the films being shot back-to-back out of the way, the creative process for these films can be discussed: In my view, the tentative use of the Riddler for the next movie should be discarded. I believe he should be pushed back to the second sequel to The Dark Knight; His villainous machinations are too reminiscent of the Joker’s own trickery for them to have any resonance with audiences as early as the next movie. The use of the Riddler as the main antagonist for Batman in a direct sequel to The Dark Knight would seem derivative to the public and would therefore desenpower the presence of such a villain on screen. Thus, the Penguin would be the perfect foil for the next movie. A movie which, in my mind, should have as its main precepts the following: • GCPD’s prerogative will be to bring down the Batman at any costs. This will prove a hindrance to Batman’s crime-fighting agenda throughout much of the film. • The Penguin should take movie goers one step closer to Batman’s fantastical comic book roots. His visage should be abhorrent and wonderfully grotesque but not enough that it would project audiences into the realm of incredulity. • In another nod to the idea of escalation and Batman’s world growing ever stranger, The Penguin’s use of a deadly umbrella should be included, but in a careful manner so as to avoid slipping into the realm of camp. Perhaps a modified unbreakable umbrella like the real world ones used by the Secret Service of the Phillipines would be appropriate. • The Penguin should be a high-tech arms dealer who is flooding Gotham’s underworld with real-world high tech weapons systems such as the DREAD or the CORNERSHOT. He could be viewed as a kind of twisted, malevolent Lucius Fox, obsessed with using his weapons expertise and vast financial resources to put an end to the Batman’s existence. • The Bat-suit will suffer yet another upgrade in order to cope with the weapons being flooded into Gotham. However, Batman’s refusal to stoop down to his antagonist’s level by acquiring guns of his own should be seen as both heroic and—given the graveness of the situation—pathological. This point will be driven home with audiences by showing them Bruce Wayne’s injuries as being graver than the ones caused by any of his previous scuffles. The amount of bodily harm to which the protagonist subjects himself to should be gruesome to the point that even Alfred questions his refusal to “fight fire with fire”. (As we already know, Batman refuses to use guns of any kind as he associates them with his parents’ demise.) • Much like the James Bond series, movie-goers hunger for interesting gadgets in a Batman film. This thirst should be partially quenched with Batman’s upgraded suit and the revelation of a sleeker, cooler prototype vehicle being in the works (only to be finished/used in the following film). However, most of the high-tech eye candy will be provided by the Penguin’s arsenal of state of the art weaponry. This will not only augment the movie’s visual appeal but also help to cement The Penguin’s status as a genuine threat. • Batman’s partial redemption in the eyes of Gotham’s public should be achieved through his defeat of the Penguin. The Penguin’s threat to the integrity of Gotham will be such that its citizens, in a desperate plea for salvation will call out to what they perceive as a necessary evil: the Batman. This fight fire with fire approach will be polarizing amongst Gothamites, but by the end of the picture, and given the protagonist’s slew of heroic deeds (including The Penguin’s downfall), many will question the veracity of Batman’s involvement in Dent’s supposed death, allowing Comissioner Gordon’s GCPD to re-assess Batman’s incarceration as a priority. • Batman’s presence within Gotham City should be shown to have an effect upon the image of the city itself. Gotham should suffer an ever-so-slight metamorphosis veering towards the dark and gothic as a reflection of its iconic protector. More gargoyles and building facades featuring chimeras and the like should be a staple in Gotham. This would help identify Gotham as a city with its own identity as opposed to just another large North American hub. • Finally--and functioning as the movie’s cliffhanger--Two Face’s survival should be revealed. Comissioner Gordon having pulled the necessary strings, it is revealed to audiences he is alive and incarcerated in Arkham Asylum under an alias. Gotham’s dirty little secret hidden away amongst Gotham’s other psychotic evildoers such as Scarecrow, The Joker and now the Penguin. With all these points discussed above the setup for a second sequel featuring the Riddler is established. I also have some very clearly defined ideas pertaining to how that particular movie should play out, the most important of which, to my mind, include the revelation in that film’s ending of The Joker having taken control of Arkham Asylum. An ending which would be perfect for a fifth and final film: an adaptation of Grant Morrison’s influential graphic novel “Arkham Asylum” featuring The Scarecrow, The Penguin, The Riddler and the Joker’s long awaited return; a movie which would function as the apotheosis of all the weirdness building up in Gotham and one where Batman’s own psychosis becomes readily apparent. The ending of the film could conceivably consist of the tentative re-imagination of Superman descending from on-high and approaching the Batman for recruitment to the JLA—an image which would not be so out of place within the dbizarre context of the film, but would still be seen as some kind of apparition to a disbelieving Batman. This climax could be viewed as either a catalyst to all the ascending preposterousness going on within Gotham or as a discomforting look into Batman’s fragile mind. In other words, Superman’s arrival in the end of “Arkham Asylum” could be the fruit of Batman’s shattered psyche, a hallucination conjured from a mind so twisted by the Joker’s machinations that its way of coping was by raising a Jungian archetype out of its own imagination. This is a concept which was briefly discussed in “Batman Begins” and one that would duly fit within “Arkham Asylum”. Either way one wishes to interpret the ending of this film opens up the possibility for the eagerly awaited JLA film. I truly believe this to be the only conceivable manner to conciliate Nolan’s vision with a hypothetical Justice League spin-off.

...how much time I really want to waste telling people how wrong they are. I mean, it is one of my favorite things, but only in moderation. On escalation: Yes, that was the point of Begins. And using Begins as a spring board, they could have taken this franchise into some very interesting directions. Maybe it was a mistake to bring the Joker out so soon. Maybe with the second film they should have gone with another villain that hadn’t been portrayed in film, but one who could have really pushed the chaos to a higher level. I have to say, I think Ledger was great, but I think Nolan totally wasted the intensity of the character and of the performance on a plot that talked a lot about chaos and lines being crossed and things burning, but failed to follow through on the promises it makes in the first act. I’ve said this before, but one of the weirder moments in The Dark Knight for me was when somebody at the press conference shouted to Dent that things were worse than ever. I remember thinking, really? How? By that point, Joker had killed a mob boss, his goons, a bunch of his own goons, a fake Batman, a judge, the commissioner of police, and (supposedly) Gordon. While that could certainly be described as bad, how exactly is that worse than ever? How does the chaos at that point come close to mirroring let alone surpassing the period when crime was rampant during the “Depression” or when, for instance, the city was under siege by the League of Shadows and Crane’s nerve toxin? While I like Joker’s monologue in the hospital about things going according to plan and how people don’t mind when you kill gangbangers or soldiers, if you look back on the film, while he did hatch that lame ferryboat scheme that could have killed a ton of innocents, he doesn’t kill a single person that isn’t connected to either criminals or the law. He did blow up an empty hospital, though. The horror! I mean, come on, if things are so bad, why are people still enjoying themselves at bars and restaurants only hours after he blew up (the teeny tiny) Gotham General? Where was the chaos? Where was the escalation? How are things worse in The Dark Knight than they were in Begins? And I’m not asking for a condescending explanation of how I wasn’t paying close enough attention or how I simply didn’t get how brilliant the film is. But I guess that’s less my point and more my trying to refute your point. Which is to say that you could have been right about the potential for the fantastic in the series using Begins as a jumping off point, that is, if Nolan hadn’t totally screwed that whole premise up with The Dark Knight, a film so contemptuous towards its source material that filmmaker has essentially said he doesn’t want the thing to be looked at as a comic book film. Which gets to the point I’ve been trying to make, but haven’t yet: Chris Nolan is embarrassed that these are comic book movies. After making a pretty good comic book movie a few years ago, Nolan decided he didn’t want to do that anymore. No, he wanted to make a Michael Mann movie. He’s the one who started all of these lame comparisons to Heat. He’s the one who wants people to say things like, ‘he’s shown that comic book movies can be serious art’ without being remotely aware of the irony implicit in making the argument in favor of this proving the legitimacy of the genre by trying to mimic another genre. I mean, if you’re looking for comics as art, it was done a few years ago; it was called Hulk, and it was both artful and unapologetically a member of the comic genre (even if it didn’t necessarily resemble a Hulk comic). I don’t know whether or not Ang Lee likes comics, but I never once felt like he was patronizing me for liking comics the way I feel patronized by Nolan’s Dark Knight. Everyone is talking about how this is the Batman film they’ve been waiting for, how much better it is than the Schumacher (and even Burton) crap-fests, but they neglect to recognize how little The Dark Knight actually resembles the Batman they’ve known from the comics. And some of you (Harry?) think the Batman he’s created is prepared to take on Superman…please. And that’s nothing against the Batman he’s created, but he’s only recently been able to turn his neck, and you want him to take on the Man of Steel?

I never really was worried about what the director thought he was making. And I really do think that this is a really good comic book movie, sure the world is "realistic" but that's just the way it was portrayed and it worked. As for the "things being worse" line, that's a cheap line that would work in any comic book, its always "worst" just before the climactic battle. It doesn't really have to speak for the history of the city, and-in a sense- that was just one person's opinion. As for this Mickey Rourke love, what the hell is that about? He was in Sin City and all of a sudden everyone has decided that he is the only "grizzled vet" for every comic/nerd fantasy. Come on. One of the other TBers nailed it on the head. You guys need to calm down, just because he was good in one movie doesn't mean he'd be good in every movie.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I will leave the researching to you. I do know a thing or two about the relationship, but I also know a thing or two (like the rest of you) about the director's stated intent, and the tone he's established to carry that through. I don't know if Superman could have existed in the universe established for Begins, but I know he doesn't exist in the parallel universe created for TDK.

I think a lot of people here probably have a memory of Rourke that goes further back than Sin City or Spun, or wherever you want to mark his comeback. I actually think he’s quite good. I don’t think he would work as Bruce Wayne. I certainly don’t think Nolan has a vision that jives very well with The Dark Knight Returns. Maybe Ridley Scott 20 years ago. That could have been awesome. I can’t think of a director working right now that I would want helming that property. I don’t mind an element of realism. I think Begins had a lot of realistic elements that worked really well. The difference, as I see it, is that its realism didn’t betray a level of contempt for the source material and the genre which I inferred, both from changes Nolan made to the tone of the second film in comparison to the first, and from memes the director seemed all too happy to push with regard to this being a film that transcends genres (to imply a necessity or intent to transcend something is inherently demeaning to that thing). As to the dude talking about things being worse (and Dent agreed with him, since it gave the Nolans an opportunity to put a platitude into the script) was that, much like mourasantos said, the first film ended with this concept of escalation being bandied about as a tease to how much worse things would become. Mourasantos was mentioning it in defense of the idea that the universe could continue to spiral out of the arena of the real and further into fantasy. My argument though, is that while they talk about things being so terrible in TDK, worse than ever, in fact, the actual events—and even the tone—of TDK do not match the dialogue. There are flashes of the intensity (most of it having more to do with Ledger’s performance) needed to warrant all of the morose language, but most of that generally peaks in the first act, and the stuff that’s supposed to make the city at large feel fearful of their personal safety tends to lack any visceral weight and comes off a bit hackneyed. In the end, things don’t seem all that bad. Not counting criminals, Joker kills what? A DA, a vigilante, a judge, and a few cops. And that’s what qualifies as escalation in Christopher Nolan’s Gotham City? I mean, just think about it for a minute: The League of Shadows probably killed at least that many people, and would have been indirectly responsible for a lot more deaths due to the nerve toxin riots and the Arkham escapees (and that’s the result of a failed plan!), yet this qualifies as escalation? Why? Because he has scars and wears make-up? The League of Shadows tried to literally poison the entire population and raze the city! I’m sorry, but no matter how compelling the performance, killing a judge, a DA, some cops, and a vigilante seems like a de-escalation to me.

My apologies if I come across as mean spirited. It's not my intention. I'm just of the opinion...that...you either can "see" it (successfully working in your mind's eye) or you don't. And I can (actually) understand your point-of-view, in feeling indifferent to such fantasy characters existing in a life-like style of cinema. (I'm sure there will plenty more experimentations in the genre, in years to come.) But, from my perspective, it's not that hard to make the leap. Or rather, it's not that difficult to "see" Nolan's style remaining consistent, even with the inclusion of Superman. It only has to be there in the script...with the inclusion of actors qualified to deliver them, in a style that mirrors real life. And all the while, remain true to each and every character.
The Dark Knight and The Man of Steel offers greatness!

Rather than see a direct interpretation of Frank Miller's THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS, I'd like to see Nolan be open to pull from Batman's and Superman's combined moments in history (which would include a portion of Miller's work), as long as it does NOT sway from the consistency of Nolan's vision and style. If there...WAS...to be some kind of final confrontation between Batman and Superman, I'd still want to see Nolan's style remain intact. Sure, they'd look at "graphic novels" THE DARK KNIGHT RETURNS and KINGDOM COME, to begin conceptualizing Bruce Wayne's war-suit that's built specifically for him to face Superman. And with Nolan interpreting such, I would imagine influences from movies like IRON MAN and TRANSFORMERS,...in the way the effects and designs are to seem more real. I have...NO DOUBT...that, as GREAT as THE DARK KNIGHT is,...Nolan's next Bat-flick could be much more. And from my perspective, the best hope of that...is by including Superman.

It’s not that it’s simply difficult for me to make a leap in my mind’s eye. Christopher Nolan (of whom a lot of people in here that are not me have a high opinion) has stated explicitly that there was no room for such characters in his films where there are, he says, no comic books or history of superheroes. No superheroes means no super powers. No super powers limits the realm to which a lot of characters could translate to screen in ways that would remotely resemble themselves. These are the rules of his universe. Not mine. I don’t necessarily agree with the rules, but one thing I know for sure is that Superman is not the Hulk. Or Iron Man. Or even Batman. You can’t have a movie about crime fighting take place in a world where Superman exists and not mention (or at least allude to) Superman in that film. You certainly can’t do it twice.

designing a suit that can allow this Batman to keep pace with Superman (even a Superman who doesn't really want to fight). I also don't see this Bruce Wayne blocking out the sun. Or doing any of the serious dirty shit Batman in the comics is willing to do. He may be willing to pretend like he killed people, but there are some things this Bruce Wayne just doesn't have the stomach for.

when you wrote about escalation, were you replying to my post? By the way I don't think Chris Nolan is the be all and end all of movie directors--far from it. I just think that the Burton movies are overrated. In fact, --and I must be the only person on earth that thinks this--Batman Forever is my favourite of the previous four movies. Granted, Batman and Robin was an unforgivable, but I thought that Forever, with the exception of Kilmer as Bruce Wayne, was the closest the previous Batman movies got to the source material.

To the bare bones, that's what we are talking about, here. It's simply a "style", which is more life-like, blending the superhero fantasy with life as we know it. And to maintain this style while including Superman, the actor's approach remains the same, assuming that the script supports this style. It really IS simple stuff. So,...here's to hoping that Chris Nolan not only makes the "3" best Batman movies of all-time, but that he ALSO makes the best Superman movie!

"What's wrong with a phone call?", asks Mr. Fox. (heh, heh) My fantasy is of knocking on Warner Bros. door, letting it be known that if Nolan has had enough, I'd want to take his place. In my eyes, the next Bat-flick HAS to have Superman...and if Warner Bros. refused the inclusion of Superman (with Nolan's blessing, or not),...I'm not sure I'd WANT to "direct" the next Bat-flick, if I (personally) was in such a dream position. From my perspective, you follow THE DARK KNIGHT with a continuation of escalation. And the obvious answer is to include Superman. Otherwise, I'm not sure that I would WANT to make this next Bat-flick,...unless it was the beginning of a new series.

It’s not that what you’re describing is difficult to grasp. In the end, I suppose we simply have a difference of opinion. My opinion is supported by what I understand the trajectory of the films (not to mention the words of the filmmakers) represent with regards to the possibilities of the universe(s) in which this Batman exists. It seems fairly clear to me that Nolan and Co. made a conscious decision to jettison a lot of the more fantastic elements of the first film (which was fairly subtle in its approach to the unreal) in favor of what some (though not myself) call a more bare bones approach. The fantastic elements that remain (the most apparent of them being lamest and most useless aspect of the series so far) generally revolve around Batman gadgetry. Maybe we could count the organizational and planning prowess of the Joker as an element of the fantastic, but I don’t think it counts. At any rate, since the second film is actually less over the top than the first, the third film would have to do a very weird and overt change of trajectory in order to exist in a world that would accommodate even plausible (though silly-named) villains like Edward Nigma let alone a superpowered extraterrestrial who gets his strength from the (fictional) yellow sun. You on the other hand think it’s simply a case of how it’s handled. That as long as you handle it in the way you’ve handled it previously, the universe will accept a concept entirely foreign to its construction. As long as it’s handled correctly, that is. I, on the other hand, consider this to be patently, ridiculously absurd. The universe in this film is not the DC universe. No such universe exists on film, yet. You can’t decide three films in that this is going to be the DC universe. It’s just a dumb idea. It wouldn’t work. People would hate it. Not just because it would suck, but because it would be an inherently and glaringly dishonest bit of storytelling. It would be a reveal to the audience that everybody in the world of this movie knew something pretty extraordinary but nobody ever mentioned it. That’s a lie of omission. And it’s one that shakes the established foundation on which the movies work. I’m amazed that people don’t know this. In the end, you can only be good at so many things. The filmmakers here made a conscious decision about what they wanted these films to be good at. A lot of people like these films in large part because of the decision the filmmakers made. Now you guys want to pretend that those decisions were never made. They’re the foundation of the entire universe! The thing about foundations is that everything is built on top of them. Everything built, relies on the foundation for stability. But the foundation can only support so much.
Maybe you're right...

maybe there shouldn't be a third film. I've been pretty open about my feelings on the second film, but I still have a boyish desire for there to be another Batman film coming at the horizon, and I do not have high hopes for JLA. Still, I think what you and others are talking about with regard to what you want out of the next film reflects a weird paradox. The Dark Knight captured things in a way a lot of you wanted Batman to exist visually and even tonally, but that Batman was brought to life in a world that does not allow for the rest of what you want from Batman. You know these two things can coexist, so you're simply ignoring the established logic and replacing it with you know should be possible. Really though, it's like a square peg in a round hole. No matter how much you want it to work or know that it should work, it's never going to work. And forcing it only creates more problems.

I used to say Clint Eastwood in The Dark Knight Returns, but Rourke would be a better choice. Eastwood is too instantly recognizable as "Clint Eastwood". He can't be anything but himself. But Rourke has undergone such a radical transformation that he could slip into a 60-year-old Bruce Wayne with ease. I'd still love to see Ellen Page as future-Robin. I dunno who could play a really old Joker. How many elderly acting masters are thin enough to bring that singular character to the big screen? And what about old Selena Kyle? Which actress can pull off an over-the-hill super villain turned madame/pimp?
Oh, and John Hamm as a DKR Superman.

That would be gold (GOLD Jerry!). If they don't do Dark Knight Returns, I'd like to see Emerson as the Riddler and Xavier Bardem as The Joker. The storyline would revolve around how the Joker and the Ridder have incompatible psychoses, hate each other, and proceed to tear Gotham apart in their war against each other. Batman's dilemma is that he can't be in two places at the same time, and the two villains keep using him as a pawn in their own plans. If he goes after the Joker, he helps the Ridder. If he goes after the Riddler, he helps the Joker. He has to set up some sort of trap to get them both, but they're both way too smart to fall for something like that. The Ridder should be written like a villain from Se7en, or The Bone Collector, or even Saw. His pathology is that he's incapable of lying (due to severe beatings from his father when he was a kid whenever he told a lie), so he creates the riddles as a way to tell the truth without giving himself away. The Joker is just chaos and malevolence personified, which is antithetical to the Riddler's devotion to 'truth' and order. But still, I'd rather see The Dark Knight Returns.
No need for a Riddler costume either...

Just keep Mr. Reese working for Wayne Enterprises, leave the Ridder unseen for most of the flick (except maybe in silouette), and have Bats piece together the guy's identity over the course of the two hours. Keep the audience guessing. Maybe "Mr. Reese" is just a red herring? Maybe Bats only thinks "Mr. Reese" is significant, when really he's just an accountant after all. Cat and mouse. Or rather, bat and mouse.
Would there be a need for a name change?

Because my argument against the Riddler in this universe (besides the automatic comparisons his performance would fairly or unfairly receive to Ledger's) is the fact that he has a comic book name. E. Nigma simply doesn't work in this universe.
The Riddler has also been known as "Edward Nashton".

probably cause... 1) not many people like him in the first place 2)he can be seen as having super powers and 3) Schumaker a trail of dog ish in his batcrap wake and Bane is one of the unfortunate kernels of corn left in the skidmark. To that, I say this. I think Nolan can bring some real world-ness to Bane by keeping to real science. Give Bane his backstory, then give him the real world insanity of some roiding maniac who has nothing better to do than to take Batman out since he's on the run. Have all the people Batman has pissed off due to his antics hire maniacs like Bane, maybe even bring back Zsasz as well as other believeable thugs to "Break" the Batman slowly. Have them hired by the "Penguin" (Phil S. Hoffman?) The Hunt for Batman, (Batman: Knightfall? maybe? or somehting along those lines)

ok here's my thought on the next batman film. I think it should be a continuation of the story between joker and batman. the only actor that i think could pull off an at least near equal if not same performance as the joker could probably be johnny depp. now here me out. he can play crazy, evil, and manipulative. now look at his role in once upon a time in mexico. his character just tuned up, add clown makup, and a little more menacing and psycotic would possibly be a dead ringer to ledger's joker. yeah throw in catwoman to joker's sceam and maybe this film could show a more triumphant story of batman. i mean the last film in the story was pretty much the empire strikes back to batman's story. so yeah bring it in with an actually good conclusion.
