I've been trying to find legit copies of Aziris Nuna for a few years now, and I'm waiting for a legit copy of Negative Happy, Chainsaw Edge as well.

Most of these films I'd gladly pick up, but it's nice to of at least seen them once before buying.

I got burned on Immortel and Natural City and Vidocq by buying somewhat pricey legit copies years ago online, only to find out the movies were AWFUL.

I am an unapologetic fan of Jack Black, and probably won't stop being one until he releases a real turd. And I love how they didn't use him too much in this. In fact, all the characters had a nice balance in the movie. Even Alpa Chino and the straight kid had some great lines.

Tropic Thunder was great stuff. When the Cruiser told the key grip to punch the director, I damn near died laughing.

I watched that Finnish war movie, Jonah. It was interesting. Regardless of whether the movie is bad or good, I always appreciate another country's take on war. But Assembly will blow you away. That's easily tied with Stalingrad and Tae Guk Gi as the best foreign war films these eyes have seen.

This includes sets being built and full film crews being on hand to film the events for record keeping and possible constructive criticing by Cruise.

1. The writer/director is a HUGE fan and wants nothing more than to update the film- through its effects, its story, its timeliness, whatever- do it justice, and make a *good* movie.

2. The first movie wasn't that good to begin with, or wasn't much of an established classic.

3. The first movie may have been based off another source material (book, play), but was not very faithful to it, and the remake plans to be a more faithful adaptation.

This is why The Thing, The Fly, and King Kong work as remakes for me- the directors LOVE the source material and have a deep respect for it.

That's why current remakes of Friday the 13th, Prom Night, The Birds, and Poltergeist and kiss my ass.

A justified remake.

Shit like Texas Chainsaw Massacre does not require a remake.

The one time when a director has too much control over his film. Someone needed to get in his ear and tell him not to be so self-indulgent.

I wanted to punch the shit out of their faces.

They also had comments by Wes Craven and Joe Dante regarding remakes of their films. Dante said he has no control over the rights to the original "Piranha", so he didn't really care how the new one turned out. He said there wasn't really anything similar to his movie anyway, other than the title.

Craven has more control over his original films. I don't recall hearing his opinion on the idea of remaking his movies, but since he had some control over it, he got to at least be part of the process and mentioned hiring Alexandre Aja for the "Hills Have Eyes" remake on the basis of his previous horror films.

But back to those gorram creatively-dead producers. The magazine asked "how do you choose which films to remake?" and the response was something like "We need something iconic."

Elaborating, they mentioned they were offered remaking "Prom Night" (I think it was) and they declined because what's iconic about that movie? "Friday the 13th, though..." they said something like "Its got a hockey mask and a machete and BAM- you've got the audience!"

Again, fuck you guys.

As for the dino stampede- I dig it. It was an adventure movie and that part felt right. Though I felt bad when all those damned Apatosaurs were tumbling over each other, breaking necks and crushing each others' organs.

Trash: Driven, Deep Blue Sea, Ford Fairlane, The Exorcist prequel, Whichever Nightmare sequel he did, That male witch movie that Twilight has ripped off, the piece of shit fbi training flick with christian slater, val kilmer and ll fucking cool j.

The crimes to cinema are winning unfortunately.

I did ont like Lee as director for Hulk when it was announced. I knew he would bring same sensibilities to the wrong genre. He wanted an operatic Hulk movie. And perhaps if he had simply stuck to that formula it would have worked, but he had a core audience of action and comic book lovers to appease as well. He made critical mistakes that undercut both his legit artistic chops, and his desire for action. It created a movie that was at war with itself. Not helped by some lame acting, and scripting. There are moments of beauty in Hulk. There is also some very good action, with unsurpassed CGI - like the desert racetrack. But it is too talky. Too introspective, too operatic. It was ambitious, but in my opinion, while I do not hate the film, and I do own the DVD, it just fails to live up to its promise.

All in all, he's not a great actor, but far from the worst out there.

Are you kidding me? Were you watching the same movie I was? Heath Ledger was amazing in that movie. I normally don't like Gylenhaal, but he was great too. The apparent chemistry and passion the two characters shared was just incredible. It's one of the most romantic, sad films I have ever seen.

Like the part where Ledger's character is clutching Jeke's coat and sobbing? Powerful stuff. I was crying like a bitch.

Really, that's just going to ruin the whole experience for me.

So often I would go into the living room and see a police car sitting in my driveway, blocking my entry. I thought that odd, and soon 10 minutes later, I had a cop parked out on the street in my front yard, and another across the street, and then I had 6 or 7 cops standing around my front yard.

So at first I think this must be a case of mistaken identity and they're blocking my driveway to make sure I can't drive off and evade them. But I go outside and ask "Hey, uh.... can I help you guys with anything?"

And they look at each other like I'm bothering THEM asking for an explanation as to why they're in my yard and blocking my driveway.

I can't remember what they said. They were probably looking for a suspect but they never asked me any questions like "Have you seen so-and-so?"

A few weeks later something similar happened, except this time cops were walking up and down my driveway and through my backyard with German Shepherds and I had a police Helicopter doing circles over my house and backyard.

That stuff gets pretty surreal.

It seems to me that the more remakes they do, the higher the odds are that one of them might actually be good, and I like a good remake (especially The Thing and The Fly). Sooner or later, someone's got to do a really good one, with a fresh take on the material.

Also, I've never been all that bothered by bad remakes - they're not connected to the original and so easy to ignore.

Skipped out on TDESS in Imax last night. Not really feeling like I missed anything. Massa says it's even better than the original, so that just clinches the fact it's probably a rental at best.

I never owned the DVD (no special features), and so I haven't seen the movie look this good since the theater. Its the banquet scene right now, and since its widescreen, I'm seeing so much extra at the edges.

I realize during the insult back-and-forth that Peter and Rufio have at dinner, on TV they cut between two profile shots of them on either side of the table, but in reality it was just one really wide master shot.

That's cool. What a beauty.

That soundtrack is one of John Williams' most magical. I shot a music video/narrative of sorts to "Smee's Plan" in high school around Christmas one year. I adore that film and its music. It always makes me feel like a kid again.

Some of Williams most playful and dare I say inspired.

Thats the thing with the newer one. It was a well made film. But to me, it had little to no magic. It felt uninspired and cold. And the score sucks massive balls in comparison.

Maybe by the time I'm older and have more power I'll get to make a good one. I do need to rent the 03 version and see how it was. I did like the idea of that chick from "Swimming Pool" as Tink though.

HOOK is aces. Watched it a few months ago. Love it. And Williams hit a home run with the score.

I love when he takes off Peter's glasses and peers through the lenses- he looks so OLD in that shot. He's like a little old man. Reminds me a little bit of Ossie Davis in that shot. Its a beautiful sequence.

And that "You Are The Pan" musical cue is gorgeous. The part with him flying back to the Lost Boys and they're all crowing with that beautiful crescendo just came on. I love it.

Definitely one to watch during the holiday season. I want to see it right now.

2. They used an awesome cue from "Prisoner of Azkaban" during the scene where Sirius flies off on Buckbeak. Its a very powerful sounding cue.

Matter of Fact, "Azkaban" is one of Williams' best scores in recent years. The leitmotif of "Double Trouble" worked throughout is fantastic.

My research says its "Original Trailer Music for Judge Dredd" by Jerry Goldsmith. I know I have the track on the desktop in the other room. I have "RedRum" on the laptop here, which was used in the Dante's Peak trailer AND the one for Alien: Resurrection. It prob sounds very close to the one in LIS.

Though it says the LIS trailer also used music from Twister.

Redrum-- thats the Resurrection one with those awesome hits that keep rising sharper and sharper? Who does it?

And these other guys-- E.S. Posthumus are pretty cool as well. They make similar trailer type shit.

Ive heard a cue that sounds like the Predator theme and another that sounds like something else.

Napster, freshman yr of college, yielded a lot of good music for me just by searching "trailer music", but for others I had to dig deeper.

I was able to get the trailer music for Starship Troopers, Alien: Resurrection, Dante's Peak, Devil's Advocate- lots of stuff.

Then, E.S.Posthumus came out and his/their music was used in the trailers for Minority Report, Spider-Man, Planet of the Apes, and many others. One of their tracks, Nara I think it is, is currently used as the theme music for the show "Cold Case" starring Cruise's wife from "Minority Report". Also the track was used in the trailers for Diane Lane's "Unfaithful".

Some movies stream best when you use Firefox, so I will test that and let you know if you haven't already fixed the problem by then.

The weird thing is - I saw the trailer about 3 times and each time McClane took out the chopper with a car he said "I ran out of bullets" or something. Then when I saw the film he said something like "Lots of people die in car accidents..."

Hellboy II had put me in the mood for some more Del Toro comic book goodness, so I dusted off Blade Motherfucking II for another go around, and it's still the best god damn comic book adaptation of all time. Just great. Great story, great characters, great visuals, great fight scenes. Great, great, great, great.

Man, what I wouldn't give to see Guillermo Del Toro's version of Batman.

And yes, Blade II is awesome.

However, if you can accept it's obvious limitations and just enjoy shit like Nietsche quoting strippers, a novel use for snooker balls, gratuitous titties, Robert Englund, Paco (my new hero), Christian stripper who's boyfriend asks her for a Rusty Trombone or a Squelchy Chewbacca (I dread to think what that is), then it becomes genius.

Satire it is not, no matter how hard it tries.

Best Extended/Directors Cut?

Kingdom of Heaven. The theatrical cut was god fucking awful. I hated it when i saw it at the cinema. Orlando Bloom has only EVER been good in one role. Legolas. Anyway, I heard the raves about the directors cut so i gave it a shot. It's a great film. Bloom is still woefully miscast, but it was very good. Why the fuck Ridley bowed to studio pressure and released the shithouse 2 hour version is beyond me.

Aliens and Abyss extendeds are awesome. Especially The Abyss, which makes the film great, while the theatrical was only good.

Robocop (not the rom-com I'm talking about Frankie) - still filled with wicked awesomeness. This holds up remarkably well, and even Mrs. Pillow watched it, which surprised me to no end. A note perfect movie for me.

In Bruges - I fucking love, love this movie.

Aliens - I do not like the extended cut for the simple reason that there was no reason to actually show Newt's parents get up close and personal with one of the aliens. Rubbish. Leave it as a "discovery" for the Marines.

1. It's too fucking long. I paused it to go for a smoke after what felt like ages, and it was an hour in, with an hour and a half to go.

2. The scene where Harvey Dent hold the press conference and declares himself "the Batman" is the worst scene in the movie. Why the fuck are journo's screaming "This is all Batmans fault!" and "He should turn himself in!"? And the extras are fucking terrible! There is one annoying bitch who is theatrically shaking her head and sporting a "smelling dogshit" expression in every shot.

3. The Harvey Dent transition to Two Face should have been set up in this film and resolved in the next. Have him escape, and seek his revenge, but leave him unresolved. Still have Batman taking credit for his crimes, but they spent the whole film building him up then blew their load trying to resolve him in the last 15 minutes. It felt too rushed and truncated. And left you thinking "He can't be dead!".

4. Gyllenhall was miscast. And mis-played every scene she was in. Especially the courtroom scene that introduces Harvey Dent. Her delivery of the dialogue was awful. Never before have i wished that Katie Holmes was in a film.

5. Having Scarecrow in it then doing nothing with him was fucking stupid, and detracts from his character that was well played in the first film.

6. Finally, when all is said and done, Heath Ledger saved the film. It would have been mediocre without him. He elevates every scene he's in to genius. Every other scene suffers in comparison (apart from the Hong Kong scene).

Despite its flaws its a very good film, but there are too many problems for it to be a great one.

I think this is hysterical. The guy at Lovefilm admitted that the chances of them sending me The Hulk are fucking zero, because we live in London, and can get it easily. Apparently this is their unofficial policy- if you live in a metropolitan area, then you get obscure/ old films off them and not recent Blockbusters. How fucking annoying.
