Still not feeling it. Costumes are very ugly, and yeah they should look ugly a crude, but not laughably so. Leatherfaces mask was crude in the original film but it had a power to it. You never doubted that it was made real sloppy like, but it didn't look fucking dumb. We live in the world of the internet- There are guides all sorts of how to make a superhero costume guide online... Why a cape???
Why A Cape?

Well, keep in mind... Red Mist isn't a superhero. He's a kid dressing up like one. Chris D'Amico has a very different agenda than Kick-Ass does, and he's not really thinking about his costume practically. He's just going for look, and like it or not, capes are still a big part of superhero iconography.

The guy doesnt write deconstructionism, he writes violent comics for douche bags. To be deconstructionist it has to be deconstructing something, getting to the heat of something or putting it in a enw light, Millar just copies deconstructionism and makes it violent and boring. Did anyone actually read Wanted? Unfortunately his superhero stuff is even worse. All he does is twist heroes to fit the hackneyed storylines he writes. The guy is king of the douche bags, which is ironic for a comic book writer.

But it isn't of The Dark Knight. If anything he fixed a lot of begins' immense flaws by making Dark Knight even more pulpy, bringing back the actual comic book element. the stuff between Joker and Batman is a CLASSIC comic nemisis standoff. A bit more sophisticated sure, but it really gets tot he deeper truths of what those serialized comics were saying over the long run. Something every comic book film with a villain would do well to emulate from here on out.

Love "Kickass" and the movie looks promising. I like the way the handle it as a sort of Indy-movie, so they can get away with some ballsy stuff from the comics. The only thing that´s bothering me is the fact, that the creator seems so busy with this movie, he don´t even try to continue the comics.

aren't there a few spoilers in this article, for those that are reading the comic? And.....I'm not sure about all this stuff about Aaron being like a coiled spring in the suit - I thought the whole point was when he's in the superhero suit, he was still a bit of a dork, who gets beaten up.

People can be so pre-judgemental! Let them finish the film first before ripping it to shreds. Or at least wait until the first trailer hits - then you can berate it ;)

it's not hit girl but rather the red mist in that picture. though i see how you could confuse christopher mintz-plasse for a 10 year old girl.

i didn't like wanted in comic or movie form, but i think it is unfair to write off everything millar does just because he made fun of you on the final page. screaming douchebag! douchebag! every chance you get reeks of your geek sensitivity and immaturity.

that said, it's not lost on me when the cover exclaims "sickening violence - just the way you like it" that millar is saying something about me as a reader. the difference is i'm willing to accept and reflect on what he is saying. what millar writes is risky, if not always great. that doesn't make him or people who enjoy his works douchebags. so far i think kick-ass has been great and i'm eager to see how it finishes.

and finally the dark knight would have been much better with out a silly guy in a rubber suit bending barrels of peoples guns. it's strange to have batman been the only flaw of a batman movie, and that is why it fails.

Look at the Ultimates. It's a big ass balls out summer action film in comic form.

Yes Millar is not a fantastic writer when it comes down to real emotion and his 616 character stuff is poor. But for great concepts and big blockbuster comics he's great.

I haven't read the comic but I did read your script review and have read about the subject matter on various other sites ans blogs. The ultra-violence appears to be a large part of the material and I can't help but question if it's going to be played for action beats or if it will be played as it probably should be: completely horrifying on every level and abhorrent. Your comment about the 11-year old girl killing people with hydraulic machinery doesn't (and, God, SHOULDN'T) make me think I'm in for a cool time, it makes me hope that this film shows violence as ugly and scarring and is actually a mediation on why there has to be other options. I'm still blown away by Man Bites Dog, one of the best sucker punches I ever was a part of in a theater, where you were lulled into rooting for the lead until the final 10 minutes sickened everyone present -- my hope is that this film follows that path because the alternative, to me, seems repulsive. I look forward to your response.

I love the concept of this one a lot, it certainly sounds different, and I'm all for that. It also sounds violent and again...that's me man. But I know very little about it, I need to buy some issues of the comic...but I have to say, regardless, this is just too wild a concept NOT to see. Tiredpm, about the violence

I don;t know how the film will do it, butt hat certainly isn't how the comic does it. What you proposed would be an insightful twist you see, mark Millar is INCAPABLE of insight. He glorifies the violence to the hilt. And with Joe Quesada behind him he'll be churning out shit for a long time. This isn't some personal vandetta against him, I just hate what this guy twiss the comic genre into. If this is the way comics go mainstream then we are all the poorer for it. Nothing is gained and storytelling loses.

I like Vaughn, well, Layer Cake anyway. He's never had a hit, and that's ok. I just don't want him trying to make something he can't.

Looking forward to first trailer.

The one currently at Elstree isn't THAT big. The BIG stage was the Star Wars Stage 6, and that was bulldozed to the ground when Cannon sold half the studio to Tesco superstore. And the Well Of The Souls was Stage 3. And the Carbon Freezing Chamber was on Stage 5. Tarquin needs an education.

IndustryKiller!, I have to say that I thought the comic would be a short mini-series, much like We3. And while I don't need the He-Man moral at the end of my stories I can't countenance that any editorial staff would sign off on a comic book that shows such incredible violence being perpetrated by and to children that doesn't end quickly with the real world consequences. While I thought Batman: Shadow of the Gun (I think that was the title) was rather heavy-handed at least it showed the consequences of violence. I don't WANT to see an 11-year old girl killing people and I don't care if she's been brain-washed into it -- that was part of the joy of Leon, he took that from Mathilda and bore it himself. And, let's be clear, paid the price, as did Stansfield.

I have to believe that there's going to be a hard moral consequence to what Drew's describing or else it strikes me as being pornographic.
