It look EXACTLY like the awful Texas Chainsaw remake. it features the same WB style actors who somehow manage to be even more annoying than the ones in the 80's. And there is no indication here that the deaths with have any of the cartoony bloody glee of those in the days of yore. Its gonna be watered down homogenized crap and if you doubt that then obviously you've been MIA for the last 15 years or so of horror.

Thats the one where a guy gets hung on a chandelier and is about to get cut in half......right before the camera pans away and doesnt show it. Im sure the lawnmower scene in this will be no different. These platinum dunes losers are masters at making dark cinematography that looks dandy in a trailer but turns into quick cut MTV crap over the length of a feature.

That the movie is crazy violent with the kills. My friend told me the film is testing well, and Warners is happy to have inherited a potential hit from New Line. So we'll see. But nostalgia doesn't cloud my judgement when it comes to the originals. Each sequel was a remake of the one before it. So it's not like they are classics. I'm glad it looks like they paid attention to what worked in the original. Also I heard that someone is burned alive in a sleeping bag. If that's true this movie is no joke.

As we all know, Hooper's TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE didn't show much either. Most of the gore was implied.

And I didn't have a huge problem with the first TCM remake (in fact, I gave it a very favorable review for AICN). The prequel? Hated it. The other Platinum Dunes movies? Not crazy about them either (really despised THE HITCHER). But it does seem like the PD gang is catering to the fans on this one. Yes, the editing in the scene they showed at the Scream Awards was dicey, but I don't think that was a finished sequence. Regardless, this is a FRIDAY THE 13TH movie. My expectations are off adventuring with James Mason.

... I disagree with Beaks on the TCM remake. I think it's garbage. I think it gets wrong every good idea in Hooper's original. Here, on the other hand, it looks like they've made a real no-shit FRIDAY THE 13TH film, and if that's true, this might be the exact right fit of producers and material. I certainly like the trailer.

None of the sequels are meant to be good movies. They only exhist to see how many different ways Jason can kill annoying characters. Some are very good (hatchet to face of wheelchair guy in part 2) and some are just stupid (punching boxers head off in part 8). But at no point where any of them considered a well written story. So I don't care if you call it a remake or a sequel , as long as Jason kills annoying characters in entertaining ways without getting too over the top, then I will gladly sit through this picture. LONG LIVE JASON!

Friday the 13th was always about the killings
by TVguy4566
Dec 4th, 2008
10:43:44 PM
Friday the 13th may have been one of the most successful and influencial slasher film ever made, but the original and it sequels were never about solid film making or really thrills like the original Halloween or Nightmare on Elm Street. It was always about the body count and interesting ways to kill people.

Of all of the horror remakes in recent years, this is one of the ones I mind the least. It will most likely be a crappy movie, but the original wasn't all that great from an acting or story standpoint. In fact, I would have much rather Rob Zombie remake this movie than Halloween.

I don't mind this remake either, as the original, other than introducing the iconic Jason, is nothing genre-defying. I just know the track record of Platinum Dunes - slickly packaged films with art-directed-to-death production design and cardboard scripts. Again, I enjoyed the work these two writers did on "Freddy Vs. Jason" but I'm still skeptical, due to Platinum Dunes involvement.

Sure Twilight and The Jonas Brothers are crap, but they are no more crap than Herbie Goes Bananas, Man's Best Friend, Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, The Garbage Pail Kids movie, The Stuff, Gymkata, Teen Wolf Too, Grease 2, Heartbeeps, Weekend at Bernie's, Weekend at Bernie's 2!, Police Academy 2-10, Three Men and a Baby, Megaforce, Any "Ernest" movie, The Ghoulies, Trick or Treat, Shanghai Surprise, Over The Top, Band of the Hand, Tarzan The Ape Man, Plan 9, The Exorcist 2... the list goes one and on. Since people first started making movies most of them have been bad. If you are unhappy with Twilight, go see Let The Right One In instead. If you hate the Jonas Brothers, rent Once instead. There are plenty of good movies to go around right now. This year has brought us, The Fall, In Bruges, Synecdoche NY, Transsiberian, Slumdog Millionaire as well as a decent crop of 5 or 10 studio pics that didn't suck, so all in all I'm actually fairly happy with 2008.

You might like it as escapist fare or a guilty pleasure, but lets not kid ourselves, those movies were B-A-D. Acting, cinematography, direction, story...all of those were sub-par if not abysmal. So I see no problem with them remaking a film that was in the beginning a cheap Halloween rip-off, and at the end of the series just another chance to whore off the novelty of a killer in a hockey mask murdering annoying, horny teens.

Now Halloween, Dawn of the Dead and TCM were attempts of making horror as an art form, whether you think they succeeded or not. The remakes of those films has always left a bad taste in my mouth.

race of Jasons. That's why Jason doesn't die. He really does, but it's a new Jason every time. They've come from the planet Machete in the Crystalak system. They're not mindless killers who don't speak, they're telepaths. The only reason they kill is to survive. Like the alien in I Come in Peace (which I paid to see in the theater much to my chagrin) they need human fear and pain to survive. Unknown to us humans at the moment of death the fear pheromone wafts through the air at which point it is absorbed by the Jasons.

I expected something much slicker and post-modern. Instead, this looks like an honest-to-god Friday the 13th flick. That's either good or bad depending on your background, age and taste. I don't care for the original film, in fact I think its quite poor, but as the sequels got ramped up, they got more fun and occasionally scored a true good time, like "Friday the 13th Part 4: The Final Chapter" with Corey Feldman and Crispen Glover. I can count the good horror re-makes on one hand and don't need many fingers; "The Thing" and (sort of) Zack Snyder's "Dawn of the Dead." The "Chainsaw" remake was watchable but forgetable, and I credit R Lee Ermy for taking it up a notch. The one thing I'm kind of disappointed in is that these characters don't appear to be camp counselors and they seem to have done away with the whole summer camp theme. Maybe kids don't go to summer camp anymore, but that's what made Camp Cystal Lake so relatable to kids of my generation. Summer Camp was scary! Anyway, this looks more fun than I expected.
You know...

The reason the first Friday was a classic is because it defined the teenage slasher genre. Now, 25 or so years later...it's old hat. I see very little that will set this movie apart from any other of the billions of teenage slashers other than it being a Friday the 13th remake. Seriously. Then again, if Jason's mommy isn't really in it (can't quite tell), you could just say it's another sequel...

Full of teenagers. At the time, it was scary and the ending made everyone jump. But since then, every sequel has been crap. When watching it 20 years removed the poor film and sound add to it but that wasn't the original intent, it's just what they had to work with. The only thing the original TCM has going for it is that it showed bizarre and disturbing things when they weren't a dime a dozen. It really has no redeemable qualities. This new Friday already looks cool with this new and improved fast and agile Jason. Will it revolutionize film, no. But none of the other movies in either franchise did either.
Jason wasn't really in the original movie

Except at the end as a little dead boy. ehh... No one could top Betsy Palmers campy performance anyway.

But it's not a terrible film by any means. Parts 2 and 4 were weaker in my opinion. I think that if viewed as a sequel instead of a remake, the haters wouldn't bitch as much. But the fact is that no one would have seen a movie in the theater called Texas Chainsaw 5. Also part 3 was just as glossy as the remake. The film needed to be remade in order for New Line to retain the rights. Also the remake has more violence than the original, and it's paced faster. It doesn't replace the original, but it's still a good slasher film that gets unfairly shitted on to the point that I start to doubt if people even watched it. Let's not forget all of these remakes still make money for the people who created the originals.

BTW Jessica Biel did a good job as a horror movie scream queen. She was hot, smart, and actually fought back in the end.

And finally, the prequel wasn't horrible but it wasn't good. It didn't do anything to establish the characters from the remake. Instead it just tried too hard to connect the 2 films. And it was ultimately foolish because the whole time you know everyone dies because if anyone lives the events of the remake wouldn't have taken place.

why would people have any hope for this?

I mean its completely pointless..its just Jason killing people again except he runs these days? You know how we all complain of the remake syndrome these days-well its down to the people above me in this talkback who claim they will be there opening day.its their right to go see it and enjoy it of course, but it will mean the film makes money which means there will be sequels and more remakes or classic horrors that dont need to be remade. If your going to blame anyone, blame them.

Apparently Nina Visitor plays Jason's mother in the film. Kira is Jason's mother. How very odd.
isnt jason supposed to be retarded?

he is pretty crafty and sly for a man child - he kills with such nuance and sarcasm - if you think about it, his character is the most unflattering depiction of a retarded person in cinema history - if retarded kids die as the result of carelessness on the part of their camp counselors, they come back as indestructible killing machines that stalk innocent horny teenagers - thats deep - but what does it say about the mentally challenged?
new rule, all slow loping monsters now run very fast

Why are there few good ideas these days. I promise that there will be no remakes from movies in the 2000's and classic music will surely not be stocked with music from this decade. How about we get a new killer or a new comedy instead of rehashing all the stuff. I don't watch TV much but at least they come up with a lot of new good ideas. Oh by the way, Jason, you really know how to work the camera. You always know how to stand behind a door before somebody opens it. How do you time that?!

...Rob Zombie's Halloween. He raped Michael Myers in the ass and ruined the superior franchise. At least this remake looks like it's trying to keep true to the originals.

I was also excited to see him in this trailer, but from the looks of things he doesnt appear to be in it very much. I have a feeling he will end up pretty much playing Dick Casablancas and being the arrogant annoying guy who gets killed off first, while on the boat shown, which then plows into the girl who was jet-skiing. Wow, this trailer really did get rid of any need for us to actually see the film.

Haha, I love it how this movie has the stereotypical creepy old lady with the 1950s style framed glasses!! haha Although, this movie has me intrigued. But then again Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning scarred me for life.....what to do, what to do...

I can't wait to see this one. I don't know if those horns you hear when the dude is laying on the ground getting machete'ed are from the actual soundtrack, but if they are.... man, I just love seeing F13 in the theater. Yeah, this is a "remake" (though I consider it just another sequel) but really it's gonna rock. Just think about it this way... at least he's not spending the entire movie on a ship.

Oh, and by the way, I noticed someone up there talking about the famous music cue. According to Manfredini, it is ki ki ki ma ma ma, which is based on the line from the first movie that Pamela Voorhees says, "Kill her, mommy; kill her!"
