`He's now basically gonna be some random adventurer who does parkour in the trees while wearing stylish chino's. Seriously. Not raised by apes, no loin cloth. Just a hunky actor in khakis and no shirt swinging on vines for no apparent reason.

I love the original, and would love to see a remake, BUT, if they go full-on CGI monster, that's going to be a very depressing, heart-breaking movie. I would love for them to go practical/make-up and all, and keep the new Universal monster movies tied together in some way for a future all out monster extravaganza.

Every other headline's about a remake today. It's a wonder the Wayans/Zuckers haven't released a spoof called "Remake: The Movie" yet.

Because... A. I'm very wary about "Tarzan" at this point. Unless they're just cutting the backstory for time, I think it's a bad direction to veer away from the books. I'm pretty surprised at him. We KNOW he spends time in the library with this stuff, but this is just not like him. And besides, didn't WB release a by-the-book "Tarzan" film in the '80s? Maybe he should watch that and get back on track to what he does best. (Although he DID take a lot of liberties with "The Jungle Book". I don't remember Mowgli being an adult...) B. After "Twilight", we need a "Van Helsing" sequel. And the creature can be in it...he needs more face time. Just no Julian McMahon and no direct-to-DVD crap. They have to do it right, or don't do it at all. (Because "Australia" WASN'T the follow-up with Hugh Jackman and David Wenham we wanted to see.) C. Because Rob Cohen should not be allowed ANYWHERE near this project.

And anything other than a practical suit with the same basic design as the original will be unacceptable.

No CGI or Zombie! Please Universal! Take lessons from Disney...they revere their institutions (i.e. The Mouse), why don't you?

I am a firm enemy of Hollywood nepotism, especially the very untalented (I am looking at you Rumor Willis) but this is a bittersweet victory when you hear he might be replaced by the untalented Rob Zombie.

This is like going to he free clinic and told you don't have herpes...but you do have syphilis.

Late summer, late-night Creature Feature in the Mid-70s - on the Memphis CBS affiliate that played movies EVERY night after midnight, WITHOUT COMMERCIALS. I had spent the whole day in the pool, and the effect was pretty fantastic. Specifically remember the music. Years later, while attending Tulane in the early 80s, their incredible Friday film series showed whichever sequel was in 3-D.

The Creature should not only have the hots for the woman, but he should be the hero, and mo-capped underwater animation (like the priestess thing in 300) should feature lots of weird painful non-human sex. The fanboys will have to wear bibs at the theatres. Or, you could focus in on the femal e lead and push it for the Twilight crowd.

A re-make to "Creature From the Black Laboon" has been something that has been floating around Hollywood for around 20 years. I spoke to John Carpenter once about his attempt to get one off the ground. I love the Universal Monsters dearly, and don't necessarily feel "Creature" needs to be updated. He's an original Universal creation, not based on literature or lore. I'm not against the idea of a modern "Black Lagoon" tale or a 50s period piece, but I hope it's a Stephen Sommers style movie. I never liked "The Mummy" and I straight up HATED "Van Helsing." I know some people enjoyed "Van Helsing," but to me it was just a videogame devoid of the charcter and atmosphere that made the Universal Monster films work. Same with "The Mummy." Tone it down. Bigger isn't always better.
I HOPE THIS FILM AND 'WOLFMAN' ARE GREAT!

I love the classic monsters, despise slasher horror, and really hate what was done with THE MUMMY films and its offspring VAN HELSING. I hope the Creature breaks new ground in its underwater scenes and avoid making it a action/adventure flick. The movie should be horror.
I won't see it

I *LOVVVVEEEEE* the original and saw it in 3D in a big old cool theater. They should TOTALLY do it in 3D and make it as cheesey-riffic as the original. I can't wait and my fingers are crossed. They should make a LOT more movies like this. FUN!!!!
Think of this, Austinite...

You ever notice how "The Mummy" and "Van Helsing" appeal to women? As well as "Twilight", "Interview with the Vampire" and "Bram Stoker's Dracula"? Okay, I can't see the Gill Man being romantic (I can definitely see Larry Talbot trying to be before he wolfs out), but I'm starting to think Universal would be wise to focus on those aspects.
