Has this guy's last few movies even made a dollar over what they cost to make? I'm pretty certain they lost money, right? How is Cage even still making movies for the big screen? Shouldn't he have his own HBO show or even a Fox reality show? Is he doing adverts yet?

Goodbye "Knowing". Whether you were a good movie or not, you are destined to die a slow painful death in cenemas thanks to the curse of Nick Cage.

re: Nic's last movies, not sure the total, but I know Ghost Rider made a buttload of money in theatres on DVD, Nic's still riding on that wave of Hollywood goodwill, when it starts to peter out, either KICKASS will be out, or ghostrider 2 or something

Nic Cage can ride the Hollywood wave like few others

I was just saying yesterday to my wife (as I was making my case for the Dark City Director's Cut BluRay for Christmas) that I really loved The Crow and Dark City. I refuse to See I, Robot, and I was hoping he'd make a good movie again soon. Yet for some reason, I'm not expecting much here.

In fact, Proyas has been secretly filming the "Death of Superman" story with Cage finally donning the tights he has always wanted to, taking over from where Tim Burton's planned version left off in the late 1990s. You *will* believe a Super-man can...lose hair! Well, ok, that's not true, but what is true is that Proyas *was* offered Superman some years back... Seriously, folks, looking forward to this, as I do any Proyas flick (yes, even I, Robot and Garage Days). I guess you can tell from my screenname that my love for Mr. Proyas extends beyond your bowels. All your Robots belong to I. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's pure garbage from beginning to end. Next to Wild Wild West its the apex of Will SMiths non-acting, self masturbatory style of film making. It takes any themes the book may have had and completely eschews them in favor of exactly the kind of bland homogenized action crap that SMith seems to demand making. Moreover not a shred of Proyas' visual style or slow burn storytelling is evident. If his name wasnt on the poster I would think it was directed by Simon West or Len Wiseman. Its also a fucking two hour commercial for Converse. no joke the fact that Smith wears "vintage" converses is practically a sub plot. Shameless.

This sounds like it will be the shittiest thing in the world. Nicolas Cage ruins everything he touches, and usually what he touches wasn't really that awesome to begin with. But aside from the numbers thing, the premise of finding some time capsule that predicts doom for the world... that is pretty hard to resist.

And that is the kind of pretentious, "I'm a follower of the trendy crap that passes for quality cinema", idiotic, unintelligent crap that passes for film criticism and comment these days.

You're better than that, Beaks, and you need to start living up to your potential. Young, delusional, and still believing in the absolute charlatan that is Richard Kelly is no way to go through life, son.

It's important to remember that, as much as Richard Kelly would have appeared to the common twit as something of a - actually, I can't bring myself to use the word beginning with G in this context - rhymes with Peenyous - he was a guy who was temporarily saved by producers who cut down Donnie Darko into something almost watchable.

Almost. Watchable.

But then, we see the "Director's Cut" and find that Kelly is just another talentless hack - one step above (say) Troy Duffy, but a few steps below (say)... anyone who's ever made more than one good film. And Donnie Darko is a very borderline and arguable case on the "good film" front.

Actually, I would love to see a Troy Duffy/Richard Kelly team-up where they do The Emperor’s New Clothes

. Produced by Tony Scott, with extra pretension and delusions of grandeur from QT... and a special sequence from everyone's favorite adulterous alcoholic, Robert Rodriguez.

Funded by the Weinstein "Kray Twins" Brothers, it could be a real winner for the "I still believe Spike Jonez is the best director ever, even though he's a retard" set.

So let me get this straight - he agrees to make a film with Will Smith ... and expects it not to blow the high hard one?. It pains me to say this but ... Will Smith is the biggest movie star in the world. That's Newtoninan Fact. Proyas, on the other hand, is a respected but no non-fanboy will argue him even in top 10 best directors - exactly what did he expect to create other than an inflated bank acc ... errr ... a piece of shit film? Folks - Proyas took the money. He cashed the check. He SOLD OUT. Stop making excuses.

Seems to be that he did so in service of nothing. It didnt seem to buy him the capital to make some huge budget dream project like when Cuaron got to make the masterpiece Children of Men after Harry Potter 3. Now he's directing Nicholas Cage films, it's amazing now that back in the day that carried a good connotation.

not quite by-the-numbers enough to completely give up hope, but also generic enough that it bodes ill for this production. Nic Cage has just been such shit recently, but maybe if this thing is a little more complex and interesting than the trailer makes it seem, he'll finally have some material to get into. Really tough to tell at this point; my hope is that they're holding a lot back right now(you know, one of those trailers which shows you only the first third of the film). Do kind of like the scene with the plane going down. Hope?
