LOST is simply the best thing on television.

I'm not trying to disrespect, I'm just curious why you think that. I can name at least a handful of shows that are much "sillier" than LOST.

Oh, and it's spelled "premiere" unless you plan on watching it with someone like François Fillon or Silvio Berlusconi, as they are the premiers of France and Italy, respectively.

I'm betting Widmore, but what about if someone connected to Claire has put two and two together? What about Aaron's jackass dad? Maybe her mom woke up? On the season 4 DVD there's that Loose Change-style documentary making a big deal about Claire being pregnant.

And just release the boxed sets all in one go. I hate waiting for weekly shows. And either my memory is failing me or I watch too much TV as I can barely remember what happened in the last episode. I never thought I would see the day when I needed those "previously on...." thingys at the start of each ep. Those days have arrived.

And that would make it so "How'd Locke die" would still be a question that could last through the entire season. I'd rather find out sooner than later though.

basically, he's a socially mal-adjusted fat kid who acts out in front of a group of people because he's so convinced that they will reject him anyway, that by giving them a GOOD REASON to reject him, he can protect is tender and so very sensitive little ego. This was extraordinary -- because it predates any of the references to the inability for childbearing on the island! Most of us saw it...and didn't think much of it. However, I think that it was a clue to the direction of the show -- way back in early Season 3.

Also...remember in Season 1 when Locke emphasized that each of the survivors had been CHOSEN to be on that plane (Oceanic 815)? I think that this is more important now that we see the various "connections" in the show. I was watching the Season 1 finale the other day. Ana Lucia was asking Jack questions in the airport bar (like, "How did your dad die?"). Ben told Juliet that the children (survivors of the crash) were ON THE LIST.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the time travelers know who is important in this epic battle between Benjamin Linus and Charles Widmore. Why couldn't Michael kill himself? I think that it was less about "fate" and more that the time travelers prevented his death with each suicide attempt. Desmond's guide during his first time-traveling event seemed to indicate a belief that you can't prevent the future from happening. I think that the entire series will be about how you CAN prevent the future from taking place. Perhaps these LOSTies will change a bleak and deadly future? Remember, Ben and Co. are, after all, "the good guys."

There is something there that we just don't grasp yet, methinks.

As I watched, it was 'obvious' to me that it was Jack; the last time we saw him, Ben told him that he had to gather up ALL of the Oceanic 6 and return them to the island. Which would include Aaron, who Kate would never ever let go if she had her way.

How could a DNA test benefit anyone but Jack? Proving that Aaron isn't Kate's biological son won't do anyone any good but Jack, who IS biologically related, being Claire's half brother.

In response to those above who complain about Lost: I might watch each episode the first time eager for clues about the Big Mysteries--and I do acknowledge that some of their unnecessarily repetitive/suspenseful plot contrivances are a bit silly--but one thing that makes the show stick out as legitimately high quality to me is the characterization. So many of these characters are interesting, flawed, three-dimensional, funny, etc, and I think Lost does this better than just about any other show.

The plot and their actions really do spring from their characters--Jack has to be the hero, won't give up, sacrifices himself; Locke is spiritual and seeks a purpose for everything to the point where he lets himself get hurt and used; Kate is both strong and weak at the same time, can face difficult situations but runs away from emotional connections; Sayid is efficient and calculating but deeply loyal and committed, and so on. This is supported by generally top shelf acting as well. You can root for pretty much all of them, but they are all flawed and imperfect; none is 'good' or 'evil' without qualification, and yet one of the show's big themes is good vs. evil (often represented as black vs. white).

It's that stuff that makes me put Lost in a higher category than other shows. Of course you can make fun of some of the production details and formulas--but what network drama is that not true of?

If that's true, then I got a pretty long list for ya if you're looking for shows with more nuanced, complex, flawed characters than Lost has. it starts with The Wire, and it ends with, I dunno man, the fuckin X-Files. I watch this shit cause I'm hooked, and Sawyer is the fucking man. But his character is all over the fucking map, just like three quarters of the characters on the show. If it weren't for the plot twists I'd have lost interest somewhere back in season 3.

Just to be clear, though, Sawyer's the fucking man.
