It's well worth a watch. Imagine HBO does zombies and you're about there. A funny script, some good barbs at the whole reality TV phenomenon, a couple of fantastic performances (Andy Nyman's turn as the show producer is barnstorming), and the practical effects are phenomenal. It's a little too endebted the the Romero movies (some of the best moments homage/reprise them) and it doesn't add anything new to the canon of zombie moviedom, but its supremely entertaining stuff.

There was nothing new there and it had a definite 'too British' feel about it. Davina was pretty good though, even though she has had 10 years of practice her presenting scenes felt exactly the same as when she is actually presenting. If that makes sense.

It's a shame that so many things that are produced over here turn out looking cheap and nasty. Why is that, does anyone know? Do British crews etc take up more of the budget or something? I once heard (it is probably not true) that Dr Who has a similar production budget to many American hour longs, it looks like it was made my children or amateurs in comparison.

I saw this film when I was like 10. I never thought it would be released on dvd. But that's because I forgot about Criterion. It will be strange to revisit it 26 years later but I'll definitely check it out. It tries to be anti-racist but I wonder if it will have inadvertent racism in it.

DEAD SET is too British? That's because it IS British. What would you prefer an Americanisation where the characters have a mid-Atlantic twang? How is it TOO British? Also, Davinas presenting scenes were meant to be the same as when she presents BigBrother. That was the bloody idea.

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. Buy DEAD SET. You will enjoy.

If you re-read my post you will see what I am talking about. The 'too British' comment was referring to the fact it looked cheap, as most things produced over here do. You will also see that I praised Davina's scenes, for the exact fucking reason that you have stated. You couldn't tell she was acting, it was as if she was actually presenting an episode of BigBrother.

The PS3 is the best Bluray player on the market. You can update the firmware on it, it's one of the few bluray players you can do this on at the minute. Other bluray players you'll have to replace in the future as they won't play newer disks. Also I have the flashing batman shirt..it's awesome.

It's the logo for the Cannon Group an independent film production and distribution company. In the 1980s it was run by Yoram Globus and Menahem Golan. They produced and/or released "Enter the Ninja", "The Delta Force","Cobra", "Runaway Train", "Lifeforce","Superman IV", the "Death Wish" series, the infamous "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo" and many, many more. For more details check out the IMDB.

That was a brainfart. I MEANT 10:37:42 and have updated the piece, but I fully admit to my brain being damn well good and fried by the time I finished coding this, so apologies for not catching it.

Same goes for the North American thing. That was more of a typo since I originally thought the contest was open to the US and Canada as well (same region coding for the DVD), but when I checked back to the original offer for the giveaway, Disney clearly states Continental US only. I went back in and changed the other two references to be continental US, but missed the very first one.

Regarding Laser TVs, that's what I was holding out for, actually, but when they finally hit the market they were much more expensive than previous expected and I settled on an LED which is a very bright picture and has no bulb, so I never have to worry about bulb replacement. It'll at the very least due until lasers drop in price.

Blu-Ray, Affleck, you're right to a degree. Until the newest price drops, the PS3s were the most value for your money. Firmware upgrades built in and for about $50 more you get a blu-ray player than can play next gen games. But now that BR standalones are under $200 and come with the same ethernet connection ability (for updates) as PS3 I wouldn't classify the PS3 as the best blu-ray player anymore, personally.

I ordered my HDTV from Amazon over a year ago. Got a great deal, 1080p, highly rated HDTV set, over 60", no sales tax, and free shipping where they brought it in and set it up. I also went to my local box store and looked at the tv in person before I ordered it (they were also charging over $1,800 more for it as well, plus sales tax and $50 delivery fee). So, who wouldn't want to order a TV from Amazon? I guess people that like to overpay for their HDTV's in the hundreds if not thousands, that's who.

To fill you in, the shirt features the logo of the Cannon Films production company, which produced all sorts of hilarious 80s action movies with Chuck Norris, Sylvester Stallone, Van Damme, etc. Cannon was also behind the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie, which I have a strange appreciation for due to my extreme He-Man obsession. So basically, the shirt allows the awesome-ness of Cannon to live on. In shirt form.

Don't get me wrong, there's definitely some cool stuff on this list, it just seems like there was more of an Awesome Factor to last year's list. Of course, I could be mistaken.

After Christmas, when I have all the new gadgetry required to upgrade to the Blu-Ray pristinery, well then I'll be getting excited about this stuff.

As it is, my immediate Blu-Ray purchases are going to be my favorite films that I watch all the time.

Anybody who remembers the jump from VHS to DVD can anticipate a definite increase in quality for the second and third edition Blu-Ray releases. So, as awesome as the initial pressings of Blu-Ray discs are, just imagine how cool some of these movies are going to look on their next incarnation. As for all the special dealies on DVDs, well, they seem kinda superfluous in the wake of the coming Blu-Ray apocalypse.

I mean, I'd love that Lebowski bowling ball set or the Nightmare Before Christmas bust, but they just seem kinda pointless when Lebowski will eventually get to Blu-Ray and TNBC already is available in the next gen format. I think the studios dropped the ball.

So far, I can't tell the difference in picture quality between our new Panasonic Blu-ray and our Toshiba HD-DVD player. And to me, that's one heck of a compliment. I'd suggest picking up the Panasonic when it gets anywhere close to $200. (Be aware that there are different sound options on the Panasonic models. If you have surround sound of any type, it's worth paying close attention to the differences in the Panasonic Blu-ray players.)
