Good Xmas for video games... damn that credit crunch! I liked Dead Space and Force Unleashed, but both are pretty easy to complete and perhaps are better options as rentals. Fallout 3 however (which im playing at the mo) is just a ton of fun and a ton of content. Should see you through the (nuclear) winter...

would pack these Absolute books better. I've had two of them arrive in boxes way too big, without any packing material whatsoever. They won't take serious damage, but the corners of the cases do get bumped up, damaging the books slightly. Kind of annoying.

it DOES blur line between movies and games. when you watch the opening cutscenes, you feel you're watching a movie. and when cutscene ends and gameplay begins, takes you a while to realize that HUD is up and you got control of character now.

And the soundtrack is AWESOME!!! haven't got PS3 yet, but played for 4 hours on a buddy's [was supposed to be a half an hour play]

i don't think i can think of a game that was more disappointing, after the amount of hype it got. i remember playing the demo, thinking, "okay, this is kinda same-y, but i'm sure it gets better." then the at-st shows up and i'm all excited, only to discover that it's some QTE battle and not even a high quality one. i was incredibly disappointed.

Gimped Fatalities in MK vs. DC Universe
by Ckuouka
Nov 28th, 2008
08:01:48 AM
Make it enough of a reason not to buy. Apparently, dc comics didn't want you to be able to rip out Superman's spine, so the fatalities consist of a lot of neck breaking and a couple stabbings here and there. The extreme gore, which is one of only two reasons for owning a Mortal Kombat game, is gone. The other reason, the ton of unlockables, is also gone. Midway is in pretty bad shape, financially, these days, and I don't know why they didn't just go with a balls-out gorefest Mortal Kombat 8 instead. If someone wants to play a fighting game for the technique, there are a ton of other fighters to play. People like the gore and the amount of stuff you can unlock in a Mortal Kombat game.

PS3 vs Xbox?
by groorgman
Nov 28th, 2008

I thought the battle was already won. Xbox $199, PS3 $399 + shitty economy. Winner: Xbox. DVD movies $19.99 or less, Blu-Ray movies $29.99 + shitty economy. Winner: DVD and Xbox. Even though PS3 plays DVD's it's irrelevant because why would you pay $399 for a DVD player? The only people who are going to support Blu-Ray at this point are the people with enough money and people in media (cough) who get them for free to write about how great it is and how you NEED them. I've honestly yet to see anyone shopping in the Blu-Ray section or see anyone in line purchasing them. It's kind of odd really.

What a waste of setup, atmosphere and hours of gameplay. I can't believe the final 20 minutes of the game - terrible - and then it's completely over! Was one of the greatest games I was playing - but after that ending I didn't even bother watching the final cut-scene. I would not recommend finishing this game. Just do the sidequests and avoid talking to the blonde with the group of soldiers at the Citidel.

I'm still convinced the Wii will play a DVD, until then I was referring to consoles which DO play a form of media for viewing movies, I have Wii but I'm completely bored with it, the motion of the controler has less to do with whats going on the game than just activating some sensor which inputs a function to Wii, boring. You could have a seizure and beat most of the games. Flip63Hole, that's awesome, have fun with that and the 30 dollar price tag for movies. It's like buying a ferrari and forgetting that it only gets 3 miles to the gallon, you gotta feed it still. If you can afford it, good for you. I'll wait till Blu-Rays are in the 3.99 bargain bin at walmart. Otherwise the difference in picture is not worth the cost over time. And I'd spend $199 on a dvd player, one that plays games, chats with friends, downloads movies etc...

Was already debunked before November even began.

But, yeah, I knew this thread would go to hell the second Quint mentioned preferring the 360 over the PS3. Hell, you even mention either system and suddenly some silly fanboy war breaks out. Anybody remember the del Toro interview where he said he loves the PS3? Suddenly, there were X-bots attacking the thread.

I'm going to just try to ignore this post because nobody ever wins with these. PS3 owners will try to intelligently discuss what they like about their system, to no avail. 360 owners will insult and try to shame PS3 owners, to no avail. And, in the end, nobody's mind is changed and nothing is accomplished.

PS3 and 360 owners would stop fighting and just agree that the Wii is a system for children and soccer moms. We both have better games and better tech than the Wii, yet, it outsells both of our systems by an insane margin and, literally, has about a handful of worthwhile games. We fight about Final Fantasy XIII and Bioshock not being exclusive anymore, but we both get to play them. Does the Wii get them? Or Dead Space or Mirror's Edge or Fallout 3 or Prince of Persia or any of the really good games this season? While the PS3 has Littlebigplanet and Resistance 2 and the 360 has Gears of War 2 and Fable 2, the Wii has...ummm...Animal Planet.

I've played this game for 100+ hours and I don't think I've covered even 1/3 of the map. It's a good mix of RPG and FPS, and it is a hell of a lot of fun just wandering around, finding quests, blasting mutants, etc.

I do agree that you should lay off the main quest for as long as possible. Some people apparently finish that in 12 hours or so and their game is over. With so much to do elsewhere in the game, that would be a terrible waste. Just roll around, Mad Maxing out.

Die_Hardest, that's exactly what I'm saying. The technology is already 30 years ahead of its time but for profiting reasons they leak it out, there's already something better than Blu-Ray, but they need to milk the cow so to speak. If they wanted they could easily make Blu-Ray's the same price as DVD's but the corporations are feeding on these "gotta have the latest and greatest" pricks that seem to keep the "new tech" prices up. How's all those proud HD-DVD people doing?! Had to have the latest and greatest. Each HD-DVD player comes with a complimentary bottle of KY cause you just got fucked in the ass. Blu-Ray is just too little too late too expensive. We're going to skip right to direct downloads.

You can force MOST of the newer games into 1080p on the PS3 if you just turn off all the other resolutions in the options. It's basically the same technique that's used on the 360. Most of the games on that are forced 1080p, not native 1080p.

PS3 vs. 360
by UCB Agent1
Dec 2nd, 2008
12:02:17 PM
In the end it's mostly pointless bickering between fanboys, but having played both, I think the 360 is the better system. I can't believe that any single game is worth buying a $300 system for. Sure it has Blu-Ray,but will Blu-ray last? If you actually like gaming, I think the 360 is a better option. More exclusive titles, streaming Netflix, and now optional installs to speed loading times up. Also, Xbox Live is really worth the money. Playing online with the PS3 sucks. It's great that Resistance 2 has all these co-op modes, but what good is it if the network sucks and you can't connect. I loved the PS2, but Sony really messed up the PS3.

Hehe, I agree... but I will say that my PS3 broke quicker than my first 360 bricked. I haven't called customer service yet, but one day it just decided to quit sending audio and picture to the TV... I checked the plugs, did a restore to factory defaults hard boot and still nothing. So, the 360 is loud and breaks, but let's not pretend the PS3 is a flawless system.
