I mean it sounds like they put everything they could think of in it which is what you should do on dvds. Sounds way better then what Disney does with it's Disney Afternoon shows which is pretty much nothing extra at all. I also remember the "fake" Ghostbusters. Was that older then the movie or something?? I thought it was a rip off.

So expensive... but so worth it! The Real Ghostbusters was one of the most well-written and in-depth shows of all children's television. Yes, there were some corny episodes, but some were so sadistic and bizarre that it lived up to everything the movie ever touched upon. If only Ghostbusters 3 is this good, or at least the video-game is.

In the UK (and other regions) the Tales From The Darkside episodes were padded out to fit schedules with fewer ad breaks than US by having introductions by Patrick MacNee. He basically sat there and spoke nonsense for 5 minutes, clearly making it up as he went along. They were priceless. Unlikely they'll be on the discs though.

As Herc points out Bill Murray didn't do the voice of Peter in the cartoon, but in fact there's a great "circle of character life" here. Bill Murray plays Venkman in GB film, Lorenzo Music plays Venkman in GB cartoon, Lorenzo Music plays Garfield in GF cartoon, Bill Murray plays Garfield in GF movie. Has anyone seen Murray and Music in the same place at the same time?!

Herc, The West Wing is 57% off, not 70%
by Big Jim
Nov 25th, 2008

$41.99 - $17.99 = $24 off

24 is 57% of 41.99.

However, if the $41.99 is the savings and not the regular price (which would be $41.99 + $17.99 = $59.98), then, yes, a price of $17.99 makes The West Wing 70% off.

Holy shit, I've been waiting for this my whole life. I grew up on that cartoon... watched it every Saturday morning. In college I managed to download a few episodes off of IRC. There's a really great episode where theres this old dude who's trying to send his wealth into the spirit world when he dies, but the process is also sending a shitload of ghosts into our world. Another great was an episode called "Standing Room Only" where ghosts were coming to the ghostbusters to get put away, because there was this legendary ghost eating ghost called Mee-Krah (yeah, like the worst word ever on that South Park episode!) that turns up every few thousand years to wreak havoc. Turned out that it was responsible for creating a few deserts like the Gobi or some shit.

I need to get my hands on this box set... this might be a great Christmas gift to myself. There's not much else I want this year.

in hopes of seeing a Ghostbusters box set. Now I don't have to read this anymore. Looks like Christmas is coming early to my house....

Since we're sharing favorite RGB moments, I always loved the episode where they captured the spirits from Charles Dicken's "A Christmas Carol," and either Peter or Ray had to recreate the ghosts for Scrooge while the other Ghostbusters hunted down the Christmas ghosts in the containment field.

What particularly sticks out to me from that episode was Scrooge beeing run around in a wheelchair with a Viewmaster taped to his head as he was being "whisked through his past."... Fucking brilliant writing.

Wasn't alot of the Real ghostbusters cartoon series written or produced by J Michael Strasczinski, not long before he made Babylon 5? So there was some quality writing going on there. In many ways moreso then there was for teh second movie.

I remember cartoon Peter Venkman complaining that the movie version of him looked nothing like him.

Also, remember how Janine's look changed over time throughout the show? They had an episode in the later seasons that explained that as well, it was like she was going to some kind of mystical creature and getting her body modified to improve her looks. Weirdly, I always thought the early Janine was sexier.

And yeah... there were some episodes that were FUCKED UP. Remember the one with the door in the subway that said "DO NOT OPEN UNTIL DOOMSDAY", and there was this train full of passengers that got ghoulified, killing everyone on the train and turning them into spirits or zombies or something... The Ghostbusters set their packs to overload to seal the doorway.

The Boogieman episodes were outta control... I think I remember that both the Boogieman and Sandman had the same voice.

The show also had an awesome soundtrack.

I had to download the series from a dodgy torrents site :S loved every minute of that show, and would love to have it as a permanenet fixture in my dvd collection-but cos I live in Britain I cant cos they havent got round to releasing it yet! Fair enough they might assume that because the show didnt air here (except on network 2 in Ireland, where it got a decent bit of attention) it might not be of interest-but you would think with the Rogen/Apatow wave of films washing over the world, ONE guy in the industry might attempt to sell it on the back of Knocked Up/Pineapple Express et al. At that, why hasnt any English station picked up it and aired it yet? As I said, with Rogen a star these days there would be an instant fanbase....is it just laziness? They pulled the same crap with Wonderfalls (I have to cling on to my rickety taped off tv version) and the second series of Twin Peaks (which I had to import from the Netherlands for Christs sake!)...yeah, I know, at least I saw them, but it just mystifys me why they arent at least TRYING to sell them on dvd over here-I want answers!

Anyone know if it's Lorenzo Music doing Peter's voice on these DVDs? Seriously, as HUGE a fan as I was, if it's Dave "My career sucks more than Bob Saget" Coulier doing Peter's voice, I ain't going to buy this set. And I'm that guy who has all the episodes on my old VHS tapes. And also, is Arsenio Hall doing Winston's voice? Anyone? Dave Coulier, if you're reading this, leave entertainmentland forever.

RGB: Does it hold up?
by Chief Joseph
Nov 25th, 2008
04:34:29 PM
Yes, it does hold up as an adult viewer. I watched some bootlegs a year ago and thought it was still a great show.
Be warned though, that it does have a painfully obvious "sharkjump" when Lorenzo Music was fired and replaced by Dave "You Oughta Know" Coulier. The original actress for Janine was also fired at this point (the network wanted a more "wholesome and motherly" Janine) and JMS subsequently quit. So be aware that when you get to the episodes with Coulier, it turns into run-of-the-mill Saturday morning schlock.

i dont see how thats a lot. you get 7 seasons and around 12hrs of extras. most tv shows barely have any extras unless they're called Lost and that one is a about 2yrs away from a complete series collection. But yeah, its an expected price...That 70s Show has 8 seasons and charges around the same but since this is an "online only" offer at the moment, it makes sense its a little higher. considering you'd pay around 25-30 dollars per season if it was released individually, its a pretty damn good deal. The amazing thing is that its the same price in Canada and the US, granted the exchange rate changes things but we in Canada usually always have a higher retail price.

so why does everyone insist it is pure genius? I watched four eps back when it was first on, and thats all I could stomach. Looking back, it's cool to see so many future big names on the small screen, but there are lots of old shows that share that particular charm and are much more interesting to watch. Maybe I was still pining for My So Called Life, but I could never get attached to any of the characters, and don't remember laughing once, making it pretty pointless as a comedy. Now I'm not meaning to detract from anyone's enjoyment of the show, I just don't get why so many rave about it's genius.

by BroVinny

The late Lorenzo Music took over for Bill Murray as the voice of Venkman on The Real Ghostbusters. Later, when Garfield was first animated, Music provided the voice for the cat's musings. Then when a mostly live-action Garfield movie was made, the voice was provided by none other than Bill Murray. Coincidence? I think not.

You must be under the age of 35, or you would recognize FREAKS & GEEKS as deadly accurate snapshot of the American school experience in the early '80s, as well as portrait the first generation of modern "geeks" spawned by the original release of STAR WARS. I KNEW all the characters. I knew their problems, I knew their desires. I WAS a character on that show. And it actually managed to add a good deal levity to school experiences that didn't seem so funny when they were actually happening to ME. That series was so dead-on that watching it was actually cathartic for me. Maybe that's what MY SO CALLED LIFE was like for you. But, I think you wouldn't shoot down FREAKS & GEEKS if you'd really been there. That said, I can't imagine how they can justify the amount of money they're charging for the repackage. Even the sale price of $67 is pretty damned steep.

by JoeSweden
Nov 26th, 2008
09:02:51 PM
The answer to that there are no R2 release off Freaks and Geeks is the music rights! If you have seen it you know it is loaded with '80's music. The only way they could release it will all the original songs from the tv-series was to get the rights only for US and Canada. I was a member of the F&G site back then and you could only buy this version if you had an adress in North America. I guess it is also the reason for the steep price. The original version is still $55. Get a region free player! Or don't they make those any more? That's why I still haven't gone BD. I want to buy Bluray from the US as well.

This is major news. BBC are updating the classic Scifi horror novel The day of the Triffids. Its to air next year over two nights on the bbc and is being filmed in HDTV. Its being written by ER and Law and order stalwart Patrick Harbison. Its set 2011. and the story goes something like this. The story, based on the 1951 novel by John Wyndham, sees the Earth using fictional plants called Triffids as an alternative to fossil fuels. However, the plants escape and begin a campaign of terror.

at least learn how to proofread. Looking at the Black Friday Bargains, how can House be 77% off and 30 Rock be 72% off when both are listed as $31.99, sale price $13.99? That's a 5% difference for two products which seemingly were, and now are, selling at the same price.

By the way, to figure out the % off you take last week's price, subtract the sale price, then divide the difference by last week's price. For example, House:

$31.99 - $13.99 = $18 Savings

$18/$31.99 = 56% Off!
