I for one think they should have left the US after season 3. Africa is a good place, Europe is quite compact and dense and you can get from one big city to another in two hours or so. Budget constraints have vetoed these ideas, I reckon, but I am a fan who admits another 24 hours set in the US - albeit the different coast - could get us more of the same.

"Never act with children or animals; they always steal the show". All we need (kids aside) is a lingering shot of a giraffe, rhino, or lion to kiss this one goodbye. "24" has already had its share of Uber-Bitches (Sherry Palmer and Nina Myers certainly leap to mind). I don't need to gaze upon Cherry Jones's Miss Piggy mug and be reminded of that "He's a righteous dude" porker from Ferris Bueller's Day Off" for an ENTIRE SEASON to remind me how far this show has fallen. Herc's obituary just saved me a heeeeeelluva lotta wasted viewing time.

Actually, I'd like to see "24" rebooted, with Ferris subbing for Jack, Cameron as his Guy Friday good/bad/dead/alive Tony surrogate, and Mia Sara in place of Mia Kirschner as Mandy, the lesbianiacal hitwoman fanboy wet dream. Jeffrey Jones would make an acceptable George Mason.

This show was once King. It didn't fall off the throne; it was KICKED off by the writers and producers. Sad; very sad.

I expected Herc to hate it

Mandy was actualy in Seasons 1, 2 and 4. If I remember correctly didnt she get a pardon from the President in season 4, for her attempt on David Palmer at the end of Season 2? Anyway does anyone know what year it is now in 24 continuity..I was just wondering I kinda lost track. Seaons 4 and 6 I find lesser than the rest..While I found 4 never boring..just found the level of absurdiness a bit much..Season 6 was just definetly a major dip in quality overall aginst the rest of the seasons. Hopefully Season 7 picks it back up. However I do wonder if this show had run it's course. Hopefully the movie and Season 7 will prove me wrong. But I can't remember what her pardon was in exhange for though.

seem to forget that the whole show is a look into Jack's life in 24 hour real time snapshots. So what snapshots did we see? Jack sees Tony get injected with some shit and carried away, then Jack has to move on and handle some other shit. He's taken away to a Chinese prison, comes back and handles some other shit. Should someone had come in and say, "Oh by the way, Tony's still alive"? Maybe but it didn't unnecessarily have to happen in what the audience saw.

Season 1 to Season 2 = 1 year

Season 2 to Season 3 = 3 years

Season 3 to Season 4 = 1 1/2 yrs

Season 4 to Season 5 = 6 months

Season 5 to Season 6 = 1 1/2 years

Season 6 to Season 7 = 4 years

Soooo... 1 + 3 + 1 1/2 + 6 months + 1 1/2 + 4 = 11 1/2 so 24 started in 2001 so 2001 plus 11 1/2 puts tonight's movie and season 7 in the middle of the year 2012

Despite Herc's exhortations, 24 has never said what political party their presidents represent. As far as I know, they've never used the terms 'Democrat' or 'Republican', just conservative and liberal, and even those not often. There's usually a difference between a hawkish president and a less hawkish one, but that's it. This is a fictional universe, thus fictional presidents and fictional African countries. Though I can't help but wonder if people were more ready to accept a black president after seeing David Palmer as such a commanding presence on the show. I wonder if Obama owes partial thanks to the writers of 24 and to Dennis Haysbert.

I thought the movie was pretty decent - a good bridge to the next season. The trailer at the end for Season 7 looked promising, so I'm looking forward to it after the abysmal Season 6. 24 used to be my favorite show, but Season 6 got way too ridiculous. Not that the show couldn't be ridiculous in earlier seasons, but 6 was just too much to take. Awful. It was good to see Jack back in action, though. He truly is the Solid Snake of TV.
Timeline... 2017
by TheSecondQuest
Nov 23rd, 2008
11:36:47 PM
Assuming Season 1 started in 2004 (since they menion the Dept of Homeland Security, it has to be a post-9/11 election and thus cannot be 2000), you add 18 months to get to Season 2, + 3 years for Season 3, + 18 months for Season 4 + 20 months for Season 6, plus 4 years for Season 7. That's about 11.5 years, rounding up tp 12 to account for S1 being part-way through the year, which gives us 2016, but since we're already at inauguration, it's got to be Jan 2017 (figure a month or so is accounted for in the "X years" statements being rounded up), at least when Redemption starts.

Funniest part of the episode. A few more thoughts...

Why didn't he take the 2nd machine gun after the kid dropped it?

"You'll find everything you need." What, 2 pistols and a few 1/4 sticks of dynamite??? Very funny.

Is the Jack Scarf going to sell with the Jack Sack?

Didn't Powers Booth feel shame at the end of last season, why so Syria now?

Was this the Mr. Eko flashback extended cut?

More hot chicks in undies please...if possible, lesbian, and named Mandy.

So that's why that guy left Chuck so randomly.

Wasn't Tom...nevermind, I guess I've blocked most of season 6 out just fine.

Anybody know if this was the African episode they originally intended to shoot, but was denied by Fox for money reasons? Obviously, Fox changed their mind about the budget, but I'm wondering if they revised or changed it.

On a bigger level, this "movie" didn't do much for me. I see that people are starting to realize that the concept is getting tired, and retooling it around Jack's conscience is trying to play to what has traditionally been one of its weakness, aside from the first half of the season when his family was at stake. The nefarious corrupt politician or corporate powerbroker with their band of moles is also stale. Who needs all the shadowy stuff when the villainy occurs openly in the real world when politicos make no attempt to conceal the buying and selling of government.
The format...
by JimStansel
Nov 24th, 2008
04:44:22 AM
They need to change up the format like they did with Lost. They can still keep the style and integrity of the show while trying new ways of telling the story. Why not have each episode act as 24 hours spanning 24 days? That way you'd be able to have Jack travel more and cover a longer time period. Do a mix of a full day, an hour, etc.. Whatever. I understand they like to say the show is 'real-time' but we all know it isn't even close to that. So why not retool the format a bit and make it new again?

Philip bauers organisation had infilitrated US govt. Noah Daniels right had man reid pollack, wanted to bring down wayne palmers presidency. Strike Iran knowing iran would strike back. there by setting up a far right state. Philp bauer saw CTU as a threat. he instructed his organisation to get rid of it. which they duly did. so it was scattered to the four winds. CTU staffers like Chloe O brien, Michelle Dessler, and tony almeida were all hunted down. Chloe was the only one who escaped and wasnt killed. Michelle died. I_am_not_the_droid_you_ are_looki ng_for: not sure I know what you mean, as Jack had to turn himself in to just save the 14 kids he brought there in the first place. He saved them, but there was nothing he could do for everyone else waiting at the embassy's gates.

I enjoyed it more than most of last season, but there were a number of missed opportunities and stupid parts. The land mine thing, was retarded. I guess there are no rocks in Africa. And quite frankly, it should have blown up when the kid let the pin rise. And ain't it a wonder how quickly Jack heals from burns? As for missed opportunities, I think the inauguration should have happened halfway through so that they could have advanced the story on that front too. I guess they're setting things up for next season, but they could have given us some story there.

Clearly, you've never watched 24 before. For a supposedly unpredictable show, it's gotten mighty predictable. I think when they were walking along the river, there should've been a guy jumping a shark in the background. That would've been a nice touch.
the show's timeline...

1) 18 months between the events of seasons 1 (ending with Teri's death) and 2 (beginning with Jack all a-grizzle and about to cut the head off of someone)
2) 3 years between the events of seasons 2 (ending with President Palmer getting poisoned on the hand) and 3 (beginning with Jack's heroin addiction)
3) 18 months between the events of seasons 3 (ending with Jack cutting off Chase's hand) and 4 (beginning with Jack working for the Secretary of Defense)
4) 18 months between the events of seasons 4 (ending with Jack faking his death) and 5 (beginning with some motherfucker who looks like Kiefer, but he's going by "Frank Flynn" these days)
5) 20 months between the events of seasons 5 (ending with Jack getting whisked off to China) and 6 (Jack coming back on a military plane and getting asked to sacrifice himself)
6) 42 months after the events of Day 6 (Kiefer standing on a cliff and pondering) and "24: Redemption".

So, technically... we've advanced 12 years and 8 months since the day that his wife died.

I loved "24: Redemption", and I'm SO looking forward to January!! JACK IS BACK!!
Did it need to be in real-time?

I don't know why, but I was surprised for some reason when it was in the usual real-time format. Given that they were moving away from the traditional 24 hour gimmick, I didn't see the need for it to be set over 2 hours in Jack's life. I feel that they could have made a better TV movie had they done away with it this once.
Solid tv film.

It exceeded my expectations. I liked how the new location and lack of 24 cliches made it felt so "Fresh". Made me look forward to season 7.

The show isn't taking place in 2017. It's like That 70's show, that was on for 7 years yet took place over 3 years or Mash having the Korean war take place over 11 years. 24 will never acknowlege what year it's taking place in.
As a longtime 24 fan this was not up to snuff.

Sorry, but this felt like a parody of 24 from the opening sequence. It also felt dated since it was filmed awhile ago. It also played out like cartoonishly bad right-wing propaganda. The whole spineless terd of a UN agent? Fuck that shit. What part of neutral do you not understand Jack? Give the guy a fucking break. They never missed an opportunity to make the UN guy look as dumb and cowardly as possible.

The acting by the supposed Africans was terrible. The lead child actor was terrible. Jack's voice didn't rise above a whisper the entire film. Jack's friend was underdeveloped so who gave a shit when he died? How did the Colonel survive that landmine by the way? He was right on top of that guy when he lifted his foot and then he somehow shows up in the Season 7 promos, which admittedly look badass and much better than this film.

All and all it's good to have Jack back but this felt flat. Still look forward to the new season.

After the abomination that was season 6, I quite enjoyed it and am cautiously optimistic for season 7. Yes, it was ridiculously predictable (the trailers tipped the entire plot from A to Z), but the action was solid and there were several nice moments of characteristic Jack panache.

Additionally, I felt that 24 nihilistic edge back in play finally. I wasn't expecting to see a child gunned down (how often does that happen on a primetime network broadcast?), and after all the horrible situations into which we've seen Jack forced over the years, I really wasn't sure what would go down when he confronted that kid with the gun at the end.

Also, it brought to mind a terrifying real-world prospect. Inauguration day would be a very opportune time to hit the U.S. with something bad during the transfer of power.

On the contrary, I'm still waiting for Jack to actually become a true renegade agent. Yes, he reliably goes outside the rules each and every season in order to get the job done, but without fail he is always welcomed back into the fold as a hero within a few hours with an all-is-forgiven, ends-justify-the-means response.
loved it.

no stupid sub-plots, beautiful african backgrounds, jack's knife to the heart... what's not to love? jack was again torn between his personal life and the right thing to do, that is 24. i freakin' loved it, nothing jumped up and shocked me, but this set up was pretty solid.
the timeline... and other things

Yes, the timeline is fantasy. However, without specifying a year in which the show "starts", the creators have outlined how long it has been between seasons. But even if the show's fictional timeline had started in 2001, they'd only be up to 2013 or 2014.
I am so very glad we didn't see any stupid "the terrorist is Jack's brother" plots or family links. Also, isn't it common knowledge that a show is jumping the shark if Rena Sofer gets cast on it?! As someone who hated hated HATED (I can't stress that enough) season 6 after the first four episodes, last night's telefilm was a very welcome addition to the "24" mythos.

It was a decent episode, I don't get all the hate for it, but I do get if you're a 24 fan, you'll most likely like it.. if not, then you won't. Big deal. Glad to have something of the show back on TV.. even if its only temporary.

And I loved how once the kids were in a bunker, that Jack single handedly started pulling out all these explosives out of his bag of tricks. Classic Jack and that's what made me feel that in whatever form it may manifest itself.. Jack is back to single handedly saving the world. Life is good. Hopefully he'll come back to America and single handedly save the economy.
I'm OPTIMISTIC AGAIN...

I loved Season 1-3 and liked 4 but anything after is silly. This Redemption episode was boring and predictable. Though I will watch it because I've been watching it since day one... Just like Smallville which has turned to utter garbage. Same goes for Heroes...

Ever since he came as a right wing republican and maybe he always. he is a horrible person by all accounts. very manipulative. which is why both of children are so fucked up.and they blame him. but and this big but Angelina is herself well practiced in the act of manipulation. which is why many feel her lady madonna act. is all aload of pr bs. if the fight between Jenniffer, brad and Angie. there was only going to be one winner. Angelina Jolie voight. As for Jon voight he was really rude to a channel news reporter who was covering the election for channel 4. sarah smith. really obnoxious. he was.

Nothing great....but still had it's merit's.I liked the part where that friend of the president's son comes home to find a "darksuit" looking at his computer files. Jack as Mother Teresa was kind of dumb, but was an acceptable jumping on point for the new season.

...and the trailers for this gave away so much, that when my DVR was nearly maxed out and I had to delete something un-viewed, 24 Redemption was it.

I'll still give S7 a chance, but it better be a return to the spectacular, breathtaking thrill ride that was Season 1, or I will walk away into the sunset with my own Jack Sack.
