should have been a fully animated movie, instead, it was a green screen headache. this should be de-wachowski'd for our viewing pleasure. though, nicholas cage has a way of ruining animation.

It would've been much cooler to put lines in his body to look like a doll/puppet/robot. With like simple joints but keep it sleek and futuristic and not distracting. The shirt's color doesnt fit and was that long sleeved? Just looks odd.

Better not be played by Eugene Levy ! Celebrity voices seem to always distract me from a movie, as some are so distinctive you don't see the character but the actor with a recognisable voice- I don't want Jim's Dad and the stigma he carries from a career of crappy teen flicks stinking up this movie ! And that slow, sad version of the 80's title theme I pray will in this movie be orchestrated and in the background play- during all the emotional scenes- I'm ready to be suckered in by nostalgia but they should at least meet me halfway !

Astro Boy? I liked the cartoon (both versions), but this looks kind of weak. And making him wear a pajama top??? It just looks like Americanized, watered-down weirdness. It'd be nice if they proved me wrong, though.

You shouldn't be excited about it. Why? Because its meant for children. Hence the corniness. You know, most of this stuff is meant for children, its just that some adult-children haven't quite managed to cut the umbilical cord and let it all go / put it into perspective. For proof of this, see any talk back which relates to Star Wars, and the borderline psychotic vitriol spewed about it both for and against. That said, this looks cute. I don't care either way, but I'm sure little kids will love it.

probably for the same reason all the 'gay dudes' freaked out for Transformers, TMNT and soon Gatchaman. Because it's a cartoon we loved when we were kids that's been given a decent modern treatment. Astroboy also gets bonus points for it's weirdness, and it's ability to carry grim undertones beneath all that childish fluff.

If they'd tweaked the "realism" level of the cgi just ONE more little notch, the shot of him flying through the clouds could have been mind-blowingly cool (a la Iron Man). As it stands, that trailer is merely pretty cool. I demand that my mind be blown.

... the relatively obscure 1980s version which, I think, only screened in Canada and Australia. It completely informed my childhood and my world outlook - watching back over it, it's just as good and even darker than I remembered - almost Miyazaki-esque in places. Well worth searching out. It's also the only version that Tezuka was directly involved in.
