Thanks Moriarty. This is the one film, apart from Avatar, that I'm looking forward to most in 2009. Where the Wild Things Are is my favorite book from my childhood. Jonze is so great and it's music to my ears to learn that WB has let him release the film the way he wants. And the pics are just icing on the cake! October can't come quick enough!

It's heartening to see that the movie is actually going ahead. The level of thought, dedication and sophistication that appears to be going to into this film has turned it into one of my most eagerly awaited movies. 2009 certainly promises to make up for the poor year in film that was 2008.

I am looking foward to this,Spike has only done 2 features but 2 awesome features at that. My only problem so far is it looks like there just on some island,it doesnt look heavyly stylized like in the book. With CGI it could look exactly like the book and since its half CGI anyway it could of captured the book to a T. Anyway im still stooked for this.

Haven't we seen enough CGI for things like this? I really miss the techniques used in 80's movies, where the objects are actually right there in front of the actor, and not added later via a green screen. Having these characters created with CGI would make this project rather soulless. I'm very glad that Spike has decided to go with actual furry monsters on the set...

It's all in the execution and to what degree the effect has on your suspension of disbelief. I think it's disingenuous to assume that, as LordPorkington said, "...characters created with CGI would make this project rather soulless." I can think of just as many projects done with practical effects that made me say, "that's a cute effect", but still removed me from the narrative as I can CGI effects that did not upset the flow of the story -- or even further immersed me in the tale.

...Sendak interviewed once and he was talking about the fact that the story ends with Max finding his dinner and "...it was still hot". His editor apparently wanted to change it to "warm" instead, but Sendak insisted that it had to be "still hot". Apart from just sounding better, I think the idea is that dinner represents his mom's love...so after having his big wild tantrum (as represented by the Wild Things and the Wild Rumpus) he can calm down again and his mom will still love him. So dinner can't just be tepid or lukewarm...it has to be hot. Also, for Max this isn't really the same night...he has been on a long long journey...the returning hero should at least get supper.

master manipulator about five years ago, writing a letter to the NY Times about how he'd cheated his way to the top of publishing by feigning love with the woman he married, who happened to be head-editor of his publisher?

He also went on a big apologist spree about all the people's lives he'd destroyed on his way up, and how he'd manipulated people into claiming his work to be far more brilliant than it actually is, such as paying off respected reviewers, et al. This was around 2003 or so, and I'm still surprised he's respected and can get work. Unless the whole thing was a big hoax from his detractors, but it seemed genuine at the time. Does anyone know?

I can't believe you'd think Dave Eggers actually wrote a poorly written apology in a NEWSGROUP. That should have been your first clue right there. The spelling mistakes and overall absurdity of it should have been your second. And did you read any of it? He was 'exposed' as having written anonymous scathing reviews on Amazon? Uh...how does one go about exposing completely anonymous comments? You think someone working at Amazon said "Hey, that IP address looks like Dave Eggers! What a jerk!"

Since you obviously don't already know this, let me spell it out for you. Your second hand information is worth shit. If you read the fucking interview the Jonze states that he's just finalised his edit. No effects have been completed. If a screening has taken place its not even close to a finished version of this film. But you read the headline and just couldn't wait to pass on your "someone told me" story to all the adoring Chicken Thunder fans. Tell me, did you take this "someones" cock out of your mouth long enough to say "Great story" or did you just go extra deep to show your appreciation? Good talking to you. Later fucker.

Wow. Being a longtime fan of AICN and Spike Jonze. Wow. This was a tremendous piece. I really am taken aback and impressed. As far as I am concerned this sets the bar for film coverage online. Not only that, of any medium. This interview reminded me of the awe I felt when I was a kid reading old "Starlogs" on long car trips. It bewilders me that in this day and age, a studio would allow a man to connect with his creative intentions. It certainly gives me hope. Hope that the next George Lucas or Steven Speilberg, lives down the block and is practicing his craft in his parents basement. At the end of the day, this article is what being a media geek is all about. This shit is passion, love and a tactile sense of giving a shit about the sentiments of being a human. This article has restored my faith. Fuck all the jaded, cynical haters! What are you doing to make your dreams come true?! This interview should inspire others (as it has me) to be a better artist. Very rarely does anything make me feel this way. Spike Jonze is a visionary, the whole world will watch him shine, where will you be? Will you be one step closer or still frustrated? Fuck all this nonsense, get out and create! I love movies and gossip and being amused. Get out there, show the world what you have inside. Technology has made it much easier for people to express themselves in new and exciting ways. I urge you, stop waiting for "The Dark Knight" on BluRay. Get out there and make your heroes proud. Honor people like Bob Kane by showing them how their work inspired you. Send a thank you letter to anyone who inspired you creatively. I live this shit, "we" love it. Honor the worderland that is our imaginations. Let your dreams be seen and heard. Thank you Mori, thank you Spike. www.myspace.com/jerryhorror

I love the first still at the end of the interview. It conveys so much and yet has the feel of the book. Kind of weird, but cheers anyway. And ripper t. jones, I wasn't attempting to dictate anything, just pointing out that you should read the fucking interview before you post anything. But to not do so, and just skip to the talkback so you can spread a worthless "someone told me it was shit" story is below contempt. Too many people hate for the sake of hating. And the fact that you're a huge fan of the material does not excuse the fact that you're a fucking idiot if you found a second hand "it is shit" comment interesting. What is MUCH more interesting is Mori gave us an interview with a fucking talented director who is obviously uncomfortable with interviews, and he dispelled a number of fears I had in terms of studio interference and the project in general. This is seriously the best news I have heard in a long time regarding this or any other flick I'm interested in. Have a good one.

I never said I accepted it as fact; I was merely asking if anyone else had ever heard of the incident, because I would've thought that true or not, it would've done some amount of damage to his reputation due to the people that took it as gospel.

Then again I guess the only people that would even know who Eggers is would be smart enough to not be so gullible as not to take something at face value without further research or confirmation, like I was doing with my original post since Eggers was mentioned several times in this main article.

This is the kind of reporting/blogging/writing/wha tever that first drew most of us to this site. One tends to forget when basically everything is a link to something else because there's so much competition these days. While my childhood memories are more about Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel, I appreciate the hold Sendak's work has on the world. And creative passion is always great to hear from people I admire. I'm rambling cause I'm at the office and there are way too many distractions so in short...great interview. Great writing. Great. I know you're busy with the kids and screenwriting and jetsetting Mr. Moriarty but please drop as many bombs like this one as you can. Like that other guy said, it helps give us the strength to carry on in battle against creative lameness. Later, The A.P.
I'm so happy...

...that reason has prevailed in the hollowed Warner halls. Letting directors do their job has been the key to all their greatest successes over the last ten years, at least.
Also, I second all -

Sendak's work is what made me want to be an artist as a child. This interview is great because it wakes up those same basic emotions I had as a kid reading the book. God I hope they nailed it.
Thank goodness, everything seems to be going well

The whole project was in such turmoil for so long, I am grateful to hear a lot of solid good news.

...the fact that I transcripted this interview makes me sort of biased, but I think it's completely fascinating. I don't understand the whole thing about Moriarty's questions not being succint enough. The whole point of this interview is that it's a CONVERSATION; if it wasn't conducted in the way that it was than a lot of the most interesting information some of you guys were looking for would never have had a chance to be expressed. And I loved hearing Spike's comments about how long it took to edit and the process of getting the suits to act retroactively; it's all really fascinating, and regardless of whether Wild Things is an "epic" or not, it sounds like a movie that I'd love to see. Thank you for the interview Mr. Jonze, and thank you Moriarty for conducting it.
Looking forward to this...but couldn't finish reading
