but I still truly think that Lovecraft stories were never meant to be shown in film. Film is, obviously, visual. On the other hand, I feel Lovecraft's genius was in his ability to make you fear not what you saw, but what you didn't see. Guillermo is a brilliant visual artist, and because of that I just don't think it's the right project for him.

You make an interesting point, but I think you need to distinguish among different works by Lovecraft--some, indeed most, are as you say, but others are not. "At the Mountains of Madness" is stunningly visual, even cinematic at times. Think of all the strange creatures, the terrible vistas, etc.

... and I say this because it literally sucks balls. There are no good Sony-only games for that piece of crap, and none on the horizon. XBOX360 owns the corner on the visionary game market, with titles like Gears of War, Halo, and Mass Effect. Plus, Square is making games for the 360, meaning that Final Fantasy XIII will be out on the 360. Also, MGS 4 is coming to the 360 sometime next year. Sony has no ammo left, and they've pissed off all of their 3rd party designers. Sony also shits on their idiotically loyal customers. Now, because the PS2 was still selling, all PS3's are NOT backwards compatible, so people who were trading in their old PS2's for store credit at Gamestop to help defray the over-charged price of that doorstop now have to hold on to their PS2s if they ever want to play any of their old games. Also, Sony says the PS3 is an HD Machine out of the box, but they're lying. The PS3 comes with cable tech that is 20 years old - composite cables! You know, red-yellow-white? They don't even come with component cables (blue-red-green) which can get you at least 1080i, forget coming with an HDMI cable for true HD. So forget about watching trueHD blu-rays right out of the box without spending yet another $50.00 for a decent HDMI cable on top of the ridiculously high price of the PS3. Whereas the 360 Pro comes with component cables, and the 360 Elite comes with component cables AND an HDMI cable (a good one, not some cheapie one) for $400.00. Also, because Microsoft just partnered with Netflix, you can watch trueHD, 1080p movies on your XBOX360 without needing a Blu-ray player. How, you ask? You download your Netflix rental directly into your hard drive! I'm sorry, but Del Toro is completely wrong about the PS3. If you want the best gaming, Netflix downloads instead of waiting for the disc in the mail, and better loyalty to the customer, then the 360 is the way to go, by far.

....That it'd be a good idea to do a series of mini-Hellboy features, doing 8 or 9 minute adaptations of the short bits like "Hellboy Gets A Car" or "The Iron Shoes" and show them as pre-film goodies, like the old Warner Bros. cartoons (or the Roger Rabbit shorts in the 80's)? del Toro can produce and oversee, he doesn't have to work himself ragged - give other guys a shot, like the fake trailers in "Grindhouse". There is this one small game called Killzone2 which is coming out soon, which is the best looking thing I've ever seen put into a video games machine. I've seen it, I've played and I can tell you, YOU will also want it. Now I'm not gonna bad mouth the 360 as I believe that it is also a good console and the games that are available are absolutely up there with the best of them. However, the PS3 offers a lot more. You can watch HD movies on it, you just have to be not so tight to go out and buy your own HDMI cable.

Consider the amount of effort , love,and attention to detail, that Del Toro puts in to all his works (just like Peter Jackson). Do you think that Brett Ratner would be able to put in the same level of time and commitment to detail to Conan and his universe for the Conana movie. Will we get a Howard Shore soundtrack full of detail and history? Will we get a movie that is studio resistant that could go 2 hrs and 50 minutes? Microsoft made mistakes with the XBOX 360 (red-ring), then gave EVERYONE a 3 year unlimited warranty. Does anyone think Sony would ever do that? ... you're absolutely correct. Only on an outstanding PC can you play Crysis, one of the greatest FPSs ever made (albeit at about 80% capacity). Another strike against the PS3 is the fact that to play any game, it actually has to partially download into the system, which takes a ton of time and takes up valuable disc space. That, and the crummy, 20 year-old wires they give you. Haha.

I think this guys' best film was Pan's because I found it to be highly original, unsettling and dark, there was great acting and the story was top notch. Hellboy films, not so much. I'm a huge fan...mgs4 is amazing and kojima himself has said it will never be on xbox...also wheres the resistance 2 and little big planet love? they are some big exclusives right there! Also final fantasy versus 13 is still a ps3 exclusive at this moment and Agito is psp so your getting 1/3rd of the story. And if were talking about ps3's breaking or disk drives failing the Red Ring Of Death is far more epic in scale. Also at least Sony are doing something fairly original with Home (when it eventually comes out) whereas the new xbox dashboard just rips off the Nintendo's Mii avatars. Xbox fanboys are so defensive. Don't forget about Dead Rising, still one of my favorite 360 exclusives, & the reason I bought a 360 in the first place. The ONLY reason to buy a ps3 is the Blu-ray. Dark Knight in Imax ratio, anyone? Still, I can't wait for Netflix HD downloads on the 360! If you read what i actually said you'd see that i said final fantasy Versus 13 not FF13...Versus is a completely separate game, hence why i said you only getting 1/3rd of the story. and resistance 1 was enjoyable not perfect i agree but insomniac has ramped it up for the sequel what with 60 player online games..and an 8 player side story as well as the single player mode. I like how you ignore the valid points i made such as Home being an attempt at something being original and Little Big Planet which is already one of the biggest games of the year. and capacity issues in itself is one reason why metal gear will never be on Xbox..the blu ray was near capacity so you would need like 4 disks to play a 10 hour game!

I bought the PS3 purely to play blu-ray (at the time it was the cheapest option to get into the format in the UK) and I love my movies, and I picked up a hd-dvd add-on for the 360 for nothing, as the movies are so cheap now to buy (seriously they are like £3 each from hmv and there are loads of superb titles) Ok it is a dead format, but there are a couple of hundred seriously cool titles I have been filling my shelves up with. Hellboy, by the way, is great on blu-ray, the picture is stunning. There are loads of fantastic games on all three consoles, gears of war 2, resistance 2, halo, drakes fortune, metal gear solid etc. There is room in the world for all three formats to make money, just embrace them all lol :)

First, MGS4 is not coming to 360. Kojima said it isn't. Konami said it isn't. Every rumor, including the most recent one, has been debunked. But then again, you were also the one who tried to tell people that the PS3 didn't play PS1 games and that it only let you play WiFi. And as for the Netflix thing, the PS3 has had a videostore since, I believe, July. Hundreds of titles, if not over a thousand. Movies, TV shows. For rental, for purchase. But you won't mention that because it doesn't buy into your narrow little world where Halo 3 is somehow revolutionary. As for FFXIII, there are supposed to be six games in the series. FFXIII, FFXIII Versus, and FFXIII Agito have been announced. FFXIII is for both PS3 and 360. FFXIII Versus is PS3 exclusive. Agito is for PSP. Being Squarenix are known for raping their customers (see the 900 Kingdom Hearts portable sequels), I am pretty sure what they will do is announce the next two FFXIII games for DS and 360, with the final FFXIII game being, once again, for both the PS3 and 360. That way, Squarenix make money from all the major system owners. Don't be surprised if that's how it happens. Make the two big titles multi-platform, but all the side stories exclusive to particular platforms.

It is harder to make a 360 game and port it to the PS3. That's why games like Dead Space and Mirrors Edge were actually developed FIRST on the PS3 and then switched over to 360. When companies do that, and more of them are starting to, the PS3 version is equal or better to the 360 version. They learned that from the early PS3 ports which were not as good as their 360 counterparts. However, the town X-Bot seems to leave out the fact that a lot of developers have been complaining that they are close to reaching the limits of the 360, while still praising the PS3. The id Software have spoken about how they are going to have to downgrade the graphics of the 360 version of Rage compared to the PS3 and PC versions. Not only that, but they cut out an entire section of the game because it would've required a third disc to fit on the 360 version, while on PC and PS3, the entire game is on one disc. The developers of Ghostbusters spoke about how many more enemies they would've put in the game if they only had to develop for the PS3. The new members of Team Ninja have spoken incredibly highly of the PS3 now that Itagaki is gone. They have said they are looking forward to doing new things with the system. So, the PS3 doesn't come with an HDMI cable? You can get one cheap if you know where to look. The only thing the 360 revolutionized was having a higher hardware failure rate than any other electronic item, besides laptops.

Quite a few games for the PS3 don't require hardware installs. And if installs are so bad, why is the 360 being updated to allow them for all older games? Finally, as for the statements you made about being treated like crap by Sony, I can't think of anything that would be shittier than being asked to pay a subscription fee to go online with my system. PS3 online is free. We may not get your Wii-rip off avatars, but we do get Home and we do get to play every online PS3 game without any sort of fee. We do get to upload mods to Unreal 3. We do get to create hundreds of our own levels for Little Big Planet. Oh, yeah, and there's the 60 player online matches in Resistance 2. For free. Pretty smooth 60 player online matches too. For free. I'm not going to say the 360 is a shit system, because it isn't. It's a good system. Not a great one. A good one. Can't think of a single game on it that I am missing by only owning a PS3. I mean, Gears is okay. Halo is mediocre. Fable, I can live without. Ummmm...are there any more? I can't think of any? Bottom line is that Sony's first party games are so much better than the 360's. Also, comparing highly compressed downloadable content to Blu-ray is pretty funny if you care about image quality at all. Full disclosure, I own both a 360 and a PS3. The PS3 I bought solely for Blu-Ray, as at the time it was the best player. I enjoy using Xbox Live more than PSN, and have grown to really love the Achievement system, which brings me to buy cross-platform titles on my 360 (I understand that the PS3 now has a Trophy system, but it would be starting over at 0 again, so it is simply too little too late for me). That said, I don't believe for a minute that the PS3 is not a bad console as Expert_40 continues to scream. It has a number of high quality exclusive titles that others have already mentioned, and while they may have lost a few such as FF13, its not like they were suddenly canceled for the PS3, simply that more people get to enjoy them (though I will admit getting a certain thrill out of watching hardcore Sony fanboys practically drowning in their tears after it was announced for the 360. Sorrow = big laffs!). I'm not a fan of the Metal Gear Solid series, but MGS4 is a solid title and Game of the Year contender, and one that is not coming to the 360 as of now. Same with LittleBigPlanet, the second game I've purchased for my PS3 (the first being another exclusive, Disgaea 3. By the way, how weird is it that the 360 seems to be the place to go for J-RPG's? Boggles my mind), and in my opinion is a dark horse for GOTY. The Playstation 3 might be trailing the 360 and the Wii, but that doesn't mean its bad by any stretch of the imagination. MS and Nintendo came out with cheaper systems (so undecided people would probably chose them over the PS3) and MS especially made the 360 easier to develop for (so developers focused on it initially). I will say though, the guy who was excited about Killzone 2... That game is going to have to raise the dead and shit gold nuggets to get the bad taste of Killzone out of my mouth. I still recall the "in-game footage" they showed back at an old E3. I may have just defended them, but Sony still has plenty of shady ass tactics. All I want for Christmas is a PSP, anyone?

I PROMISE you, you will be every bit satisfied with Killzone2. The pre-rendered clip that was shown on E3 many years ago wasn't sold as in-game footage but what Guerrilla Games aspired to do. I am very happy to tell you that Killzone2 has surpassed that "pre-rendered" quality. It's the only game I have seen where the environment is rich and dense as it is interactive. Yeah, believe me, I'm tired of games where you're big, beefy space marines. It's become a cliche. One I'm really tired of. And seeing the in-game footage of Killzone 2...I was blown away. They have really gone beyond that trailer they showed a few years back. As for sales, for 6 out of 10 months, this year, the PS3 outsold the 360 in America. Since the price cut, the 360 is back to outselling it, but, usually, only by a couple thousand units (considering that both are selling in the hundreds of thousands each month, that's not a big margin). I will be the first to say that PS3 sucked its first year. Any denying that would be Sony fanboyism. But, in the past year, it has become an amazing system. And yes, the trophy system is something I've become quite addicted to. It's one of the few innovations I will hand to Microsoft, as the Achievements were a great idea. I've become incredibly competitive with my friends on certain games. Going for my first platinum (which you only get after you've earned every other trophy) on Dead Space.

You should check out Valkyria Chronicles, if you're into strategy RPG's. It's a PS3 exclusive made by Sega by the guy behind Skies of Arcadia. Plays, actually, like a real-time Shining Force. It's the first game in years from Sega that actually feels like a Sega game. As for J-RPG's, unfortunately, you can't really say any system has become their home when neither system even has ten of them yet. Star Ocean 4 and Tales of Vesperia have both had their developers say they will, in all likelihood, port them over to the PS3, and the only reason they were on the 360 first is that they got the 360 development kits earlier. Besides those two, the 360 has Blue Dragon, Fable 2, Lost Odyssey, and Infinite Undiscovery. The PS3 has White Knight Chronicles, Final Fantasy XIII Versus, Folklore, Valkyria Chronicles, and Disgaea 3. Everything else is multi-platform and very few of them are traditional turn-based RPG's anymore. As one of my favorite genres, it's actually kinda disappointing how little has been announced for either system. At this moment and time, there are a couple more for 360 than PS3, but with a lot of them being ported, it is hardly the RPG dominance the PS2 had over the X-box.
