The more I like. The clunky looking prototype Terminators were the best thing about part 3 so to me, that T-600 looks pretty badass. Good to see a little bit of Bale in there. No matter if the flick is good, bad or ugly, I'm still there.

He offers no judgments on anything other than upbeat, all-inclusive statements about how wonderful everything is. It makes me a bit nervous, actually. I feel like I'm getting a hard sell.

I feel we are being handed some amazing looking films lately. Maybe my personal taste has become dulled, but seems like in recent years we've had a ton of badass flicks come our way. There's still crap being made, dont get me wrong, but the standard has gone from great to mind blowing. Cant wait for what the future holds.

Except for the line "we did all this research and testing...on the Internet". That doesn't fly for High School assignments, it shouldn't fly for a billion dollar franchise. It just makes it sound cheap and unprofessional. Which is exactly what they should be trying to prove that this movie (and McG) isn't.

I love the idea of the T600 being part of the 'set' of Terminators in this flick. It looks so primitive and yet so fucking huge and ridiculous, you would honestly poop yourself if one walked near you.

everyone trying as usual to say at best a grudging "yeah it looks okay" or "meh". How the fuck can you say a movie that looks like this is "meh"?

If a movie that looks like this still makes you go "meh", then i suggest nothing short of downing a pint of LSD and then injecting yourself with angel dust and sticking your cock into an electricity substation is ever going to please you.

Production Design..

..and Concept Art are usually under appreciated in Film these days. In this case - looks like they are on the right track. Good design will shape the environment and feeling of the final film. Good Example - Ralph McQuarrie/John Barry/Norman Reynolds - Star Wars Original Trilogy. Bad Example - Star Wars Prequel Trilogy (I can't be bothered to look up who worked on those pieces of shit).

The flashes of the new Terminators didn't look original. Some looked like bugs, taken from the Matrix, and the bikes looked like a Transformers ripoff. But it's hard to talk about originality when we're discussing the 4th Terminator movie, which is being done by a bunch of guys who didn't make the original. I think I'm just over it.

Not for me! I can't endure another inferior product. From the bullshit teeny bopper terminator from the shitty tv series to this masturbation of Cameron's work inspired by material by Harlan Ellison. Bale may get asses in the seats but not for long after this thing is hauled in SUMMER 2009!
...and the "researching on the internet"
by Codename V
Nov 7th, 2008
02:08:57 PM
True it doesn't work in high school. But that's because their research is usually wikipedia and that's it or they plagiarize the hell out someone's work. I gotta believe that this type of research on the internet may be a tad more legit than that since a lot of the terminator lore is electronic in nature... It's in the books and comics and stuff too but there are a lot of websites to use as a reference point from which to create background stories.

Yeah, I'm not sure what to think about the Terminator motorbikes either...

Although, overall I'd have to say this looks pretty good. When I heard that McG was helming this I tuned out. But based on the footage and the production art I've seen so far, I have to say I am cautiously optimistic.

I hope this will bring the franchise in line with Cameron-Terminator-Goodness.

I'm really hopeful of this film, but motorcycle and car terminators? What's the point when Hunter Killers and Terminators are already established in the mythology? Reckon the toy sales of this will be topping off the gross. Would have preferred McG to tell a story worth telling rather than sealing a licensing deal.

Like what I've seen and heard so far, got a good feeling about this one. With Nolan and Bale's influence along with some Iron Jim mentoring, this could shape up to be the future War T-fans have been praying for. McGinty's a decent enough shooter (forget the MTV induced Angel fodder and check out 'Marshall')there's no denying his sense of visual flair, reigned in and focussed in the right direction Salvation could deliver the goods.

They are fast and maneuverable. Sounds like a great way to chase down a human and drag them away, which is what they are for. Why all the skepticism on something so simple? I was glad to see them thinking outside the box. No idea how this movie will come off, but that seems a silly thing to nitpick.

Useful robots actually DON'T look like people most of the time.

Anywho, I hope it's great, but I expect something that is fun but hollow. Sort of wish the children here didn't help to de-ball the ending with their irrational response to the spoiler stuff early on.

Later, I guess, they will complain that it wasn't original enough. *sigh*

The 'mototerminators' encapsulate everything that is wrong with this project. Jim Cameron had a vision and put everything on the line to tell it. McG is just another hack promo director, all flashy visuals and wacky camera angles but a completely empty storyteller. I guess teenagers and kids will be happy with this but anyone who grew up with the original 2 Terminator films really needs to save their money for Avatar instead.

...doubtful they'd be used for 'dragging people away' but more for standard reconnaissance work and 'hit and run' attacks. Basically, if some metal-spidery appendages pop off the bike and scoop people up...it will be stupid (the physics alone begins to kill my cinematic suspension of disbelief). If they zip through an resistance encampment taking people out with pin-point accuracy phase-plasma rifles at 110mph, it could be 100% pure ass kickery.

I do like the 600's a lot ("The 600 series had rubber skin...we spotted them easily") and I really like the Harvesters. Basically all good designs but if they use them stupidly then it's for naught.

Worthington is. But then I've always felt there are no celebrities in Australia. I don't mean that in a bad way (for the most part) but that it's like the celebrities here are so down-to-earth you could have a beer with one and not recognise them. That and being an actor here seems to give you as much celebrity as being part of the crew - ie. bugger all. Nah, you gotta go overseas and be a Hugh Jackman or Kylie Minogue (although even she's pushing it now) to be a proper famous Australian celebrity in Australia.

Sam Worthington's international recognition so far has been that Cameron hired him- a relative unknown- for the main role in 'Avatar'. So he's more of a "next big thing". His biggest film in Australia is probably 'Somersault' and he is known for the TV series 'Love My Way' as well.

Sam HUNTINGton was Jimmy Olsen in 'Superman Returns'.

But then I've only seen him in Australian movies, which tend to be terrible. That and Harts War, where someone else had to dub in his dialogue on account of his performance. I'm curious to see how he is in a film directed by someone with competence though, and am prepared to be pleasantly surprised by his work in Avatar. Cameron certainly fought hard to get to use him so that's encouraging. Check him out as the lead in the recent Aussie version of Macbeth though. He and it are unwatchable.
Cameron's notes on the script
by timmer33
Nov 7th, 2008
10:45:10 PM
It makes sense why they never sent James Cameron the script. You just know that he would send back a crapload of notes. And that would put McG and Co. in a bad position. If they ignore the notes, it means really bad press. But to change things based on them would likely mean changing the entire film --- something they probably aren't prepared to do. Face it: we'll probably end up with a good action flick, but probably not something that feels like it belongs in the T1/T2 universe, or something that was created by Jim Cameron. Timmer33 out.

Looked good...until: "Come with me if you wanna live." Christ, Jesus. Why? We get it. It's a new terminator movie. But some random dude doesn't need to say lines for a fucking elbow rib reaction shot. We get it already without that! It's just like "I've got a bad feeling about this" in Star Wars. Once 18 different people over the course of something like 70 years have said it, it just really becomes juvenile. Otherwise, I really like what I see here, but they need to cut that line and they need to stop calling this dude McG. It sounded even more rediculous having a grown man say it while talking about somebody. WTF!

Movie is looking more and more awesome - I stuck up for McG from the get go because I have the maturity to look past someone's name. But this whole L.A. Fagiola shit he pulled where he made the pretend "I care" phone call - which was really just publicity courtesy bullshit - to Cameron, promised him something, then flaked, is flying in the face of everything he pretends to stand for. Seriously McG? You said you'd send him the script then didn't? I would pay every cent in my bank account (which isn't much, I admit) for notes on one page of one of my scripts from James Cameron. And you have the chance to get notes from the CREATOR OF THE FRANCHISE OF THE MOVIE YOU'RE MAKING????? Who the fuck's wild idea was it to ignore that shit?? Very disappointing. the first things which bothered me were from the teaser. That huge t-01 "hiding" underwater. How in the fuck is that 11 ft tall 10 ft wide robot submerged in waist deep water in a sewer...why does it wait to jump out at such an opportune time to "scare" everyone...musn't they have had to walk on top of it heading in that direction? Did its robot programming tell itself to go into a sewer and wait for humans...and hide? It's a fucking tank precticly. Rediculous. Terminator Motorcycles? wtf is this shit...dumbest idea ever. This isn't transformers you douche bag. 8 ft tall "infiltrator" bots with massive guns...oooh yeah very good for infiltrating unoticed...if you're gonna go all stupid with the original idea of the t-600 at least get proper sound design for the minigun! and if i see more then 1 crushed skull in this film i swear to god i'll infiltrate McG's office and punch him in his McChin.. come with me if you want to live. UGH!!! ACTION! - stare at the hydro bot (hydro for fuck sakes)...good keep staring...move closer....cloooser....and ACTIVATE BLADE MOUTH! BALE JUMP BACK! AH! resistance fighters stuggle!! imagine it waving around...more MORE!!! and then power it down...CUT! wonderful...you really sold me on your curiosity bale... sigh, very original. if its PG13 god help us all. I'll give props to the composition and general aesthetic of the limited footage we've seen...but have to hold that critique for when its in context really. Seems a tad unfinished too and inconsistent...specifically the truck and motorbike shots. but its probably in ILMs pipeline atm. Anywaysss....needs more cameron...can't believe he didn't read the script either. way to fuck up a goddam golden opp. end rant. pls prove me wrong McG by making it realistic and visceral...hopefully i'll care for the characters too...that would be nice.

http://www.darkhorizons.com/ne ws08/081107k.php " A few online fanboys have been disappointed by reports from the test screening of the changed ending. Specifically a key moment in the graphic novel revolves around the disastrous repercussions of a 'giant alien squid' being teleported into New York City, an event that is changed in the movie (there's still a disaster but no squid). Snyder says "The fans, god love 'em, they're all up in arms about the squid. What they should be up in arms about are things like shooting the pregnant woman, 'God is real and he's American', whether THAT's in the movie. That's my point of view, maybe I'm crazy." He does admit that the ending scenes with the main characters remain, as does the 'moral imperative' of the comic's ending. What about talk he did some 'squid' stuff in pre-production? "Well... I don't want to say yes or no (laughs). The squid was not in the movie when I got the script, the squid was never in any draft that I saw. My point is only that there was this elegant solution to the squid problem that I kind of embraced. I'm a fan of the thing as much as anyone, I was saying what are we going to do about this before I even read the script." Was that solution multiple atomic explosions as some have said? "I won't say exactly but... Dr. Manhattan has a certain energy signature, it's clearly his thing...so you know." He also shot down reports of multiple endings - they only filmed the one. "

ohh well. There goes the fanboy love for Zack Snyder, and the squid is a major thing. Putting the blame on Dr Manhattan doesn't really make sense. Doesn't have that idea that humanity would only unite against an external threat and no it isn't Dr Manhattan is suddenly a god now and not human.

Let me get this straight, McG didn't send James Cameron. Either McG or Jonathan Nolan are on a high horse and think that they can make this film without the original creators input. The number one box office Director's opinion who's movie still kicked the shit out of the Dark Knight at the box office. It is still number 2 and it would not have made as much without the passing of the Great Heath Ledger. Even though Cameron was going to give his unpaid opinion it is still James Cameron and he would have given those jackasses more input and connection to things he didn't explain in the previous films to better connect part 4. Plus, Cameron never does anything half ass even if he is not getting paid. Let me put it another way, if I am a fucking painter and Micheal Angelo comes back to life and offers me advice on paint than I am going to fucking take it. What a bunch of dumb jackasses. First that bullshit pg-13 and now this. If this film fails they have no one to blame but themselves. Christian Bale has box office but, that will not guarantee that that film makes as much as T-2.

He's moved on and left it to the talentless circle jerkers to exploit his original work for all the coin they can get. If you read his quote he says he hasn't read the script. And just like everyone else, he has no idea if its going to be any good or not. I for one cannot fucking wait until Avatar hits. I've been waiting 11 years for new Cameron. Only one more to go! Honestly, I'm as big a fan of the comic as anyone... the giant squid isn't that fucking important. The hilarious thing is you people are gonna let the thing not being in there ruin the entire experience for you. There was no Tom Bombadil in LoTR, there's no giant sq

Tom Bombadil isn't essential in any way to the journey of Frodo. The Squid is, it's relevant to the plot, to the actual ending, to the moral dillemma between Ozy and Dr Manhattan, to the comics commentary of four colored monsters. dumb fuck.

Kyle Reese talked about the 600s being tricky from a distance, but easily spotted up close. T600 being big fits in fine with this line, thus there is no problem with it.

This film looks cool so far! The Terminatorcycles are awesome looking. I hope the storyline is good, I'm with Jim on that, though I'm far from the arrogant cunt he has become. As for Sam and the Edgerton's, what's your beef? Joel and Nash are just a couple of cool guys who live near me and are finally getting to do what they always wanted to do, pissfart about in front and behind the camera. They're living the dream. And from what I hear Sam Worthington is a decent all around good guy. Pick your targets WNB.

tricky from a distance? like what 2 kms? retarded. What about the underwater sewer tank and the termbikes? kinda lame no? Cameron writes character amazingly well...even supporting characters are interesting and you actually care what happens to them. (think vasquez and gorman...now we get common and moon bloodgood trying to play resistance fighters.) He takes his time developing interesting personalities to fit into a story not the other way around. Concept and production design? as important as that is McG better just get the fuckin characters working. Sam worthington was good in that crocidile movie...uhh whats it...Rogue

They positively NEED to remove the skull being crushed underfoot scene and the little boy saying "Come with me if you want to live". These little nods are rampant and seriously distracting in these kind of movies. Let the movie speak for itself.

Nothing quite like AARP members trying to stay with it - what's next Jimmy - going to drop some Hell Rell references on us? And wait a sec - did i just see a "one of 5 greatest directors of all time"? Oh yeah - hes about to knock David Lean out of the vaunted five - no, I don't fucking think so.
And spare us that "stick to artistic vision" crap

The ONLY reason that Cameron has his "artistic vision" (seriously - has their ever been a more pretentious phrase - EVER?) is because his films all raked in a "bailout of AIG" level of bank. Vincent Gallo stuck to his "artistic vision" until Brown Bunny shit the bed. Newsflash - an asshole is still an ASSHOLE no matter how much artistic vision it has.

But to have an artistic vision, one has to be an actual artist in the first place. Vincent Gallo is a whiny puss. C'mon. Before complaining about *The Brown Bunny*, you should take into account that *Buffalo 66* or whatever that prior film of his was sucked too (no pun intended). The only artistic value that guy has is in his ability to con "investors" into giving him money to make his crappy films. Congrats to him because even Uwe Boll couldn't do that without German tax breaks. Then again, Uwe hasn't had Chloe What's-Her-Name blowing him on camera though. Although Boll is a fearless mofo with his cracking those Nazi gold jokes; obviously he doesn't care about offending the 10 people that will actually rent *Postal*.

is Kyle Reese's dainty little bangs popping out of his Tiny Tim hat. Awwww. Also, has many above have mentioned they better have a damn good reason for the T600 being ten feet tall. It looks kind of ridiculous and logically is on par with a direct to VHS movie by Charles Band.

Yeah, the good old days before this place sold out and became "The Man". Back when they broke stories instead of killing potentially god films at script stage. No one can tell be that if they put the scripts of Cigarette Burns / Pro-Life / Ghost Town next to JJ Abrams Superman Flyby script that they wouldn't be able to tell which one was written by a professional writer and which were written by an amateur. Really.

Me thinks some of you forget that the guy directing this has not made one single good movie. The Production design looks way too slick for a Terminator movie...too polished. Better fit for a Matrix or Michael Bay movie....ah fuck it...everything is gonna be remade and fucked over with before I die. MIGHT AS WELL ENJOY THE RIDE!!!!!! WOOOOO!!!!

The man gave us two incredible Terminator films and then he was done with it, unfortunately there was a third, which sucked (until Uncanny Antman's edit made it enjoyable and watchable at least.) Anyway Terminator 4 looks to be Salvation at last. As Brian said, sit back and enjoy the ride. WOOOOOO!

...if one is going to judge based on past performance, McG's oeuvre, so to speak, does not inspire confidence. We Are Marshall was an okay movie, but in the 1980's it would have been a Movie of the Week on a network channel. Then again, James Cameron came out of nowhere to direct the first Terminator flick, so you never know. I guess it still all comes down to the quality of the screenplay that McG shot.
