Since the rewrite is done, does that mean Charlie Hunnam has been casted as Thor yet? As well as Matt Damon as Captain America yet?

Big rocket ships that look like rockets! Big flying saucers that look like saucers!

Forbidden Planet had a cool production design. A sprawling retro sci-fi epic WITH NO TIME TRAVEL is what I need right now. I wish I had the ADVENTURES OF CAPTAIN ZOOM IN OUTER SPACE on DVD, that was fun stuff.

Sounds good

I thought JMS would do a good job of being faithful to the original. The retro look sounds fun as well, as long as it doesn't end up being like Skycaptain...

It just shows you don't need to turn your spaceship bridge into an Apple store to make a good sci-fi film...

You could play on the idea of 're-visiting' the planet. It would be amazing to see a new movie with today's effects but depicting the exact same planet and designs of the original. Do it!

"Forbidden Planet" is loaded with suggestive quotes. I just saw it again last night on TCM, and I was "blown" away by how good it was. A remake would suck, but if its going to happen then Straczynski should write it. I would pay hommage to it, but don't just remake the original. The War of the Worlds remake, with Tommy "I was molested by priests" Cruise was actually really good. It paid hommage to the original, but the storyline took a terrorist slant that I really liked. Also, there should be a B5 movie, but we need to wait about 5 more years for that. My advice would be to make one and it it is successful, make the next four movies back to back...where am I?

...Let it rest in peace. It's time is past and memory tarnished by some truly lackluster followups. It was a unique moment in TV history when we were in the last gasps of local broadcasting and independent networks. The last moments of weeknight prime-time, non-cable, original syndicated material. It survived through the early WB and UPN era, but it couldn't survive the move to cable and the budget cuts that came with it. I would love to see some original science fiction as penned by JMS, but let Babylon 5 and her crew rest in peace.

But, still, I would love to see what happens on...say...Babylon VII...

At warp speed, and fake the destruction of Altair 4. You can do really good scifi this way, by getting some reputable scientists to figure out how Krell technology would work, and then let Morbius have to figure it out while the machines were self-destructing. They'll need some British types like Alastair Reynolds and Steven Baxter. The mistake would be to get too close to 'Stars Wars' mysticism.

There are tons of things in the original film that , at first glance anyway , look to have influenced Roddenberry a ton! The suspension beams become the transporters, The ladies man captain, heck , when they go to see Morbius it's the Captain, The Dr , and the Science officer who go! great film and I should've bought the special edition with the Robby the Robot figure inside ...

ARK II. That would be a good show to remake, or do as a movie. Yes, I'm actually suggesting a remake only because the show 1) didn't last for a full season and 2) we never got a background/origin story as to where the crew came from, who they reported to, or how the world came to be as it was.

With all due respect, JMS isn't totally responsible for the garbage that was Legend of the Rangers - that was largely due to SciFi not promoting it, nor giving him the budget to make it good. As for B5 S5 - what was wrong with it? As for the topic - I will W&S how respectful they are to the source/original. Though I am excited he's been brought in for Thor. At the rate things are coming about about that film, looks like Capt will round out the pre-Avengers movies (haven't heard much on that film).

...sucked because it sucked, not because of a lack of promotion or crappy effects. JMS was always a little too obsessed with the rangers, yet they never quite seemed like the badasses he made them out to be. The Fremen would rip em apart.

As for S5, it had some good parts but it just wasn't as fun to watch as the rest. I just recently rewatched the whole show and I was watching 1-2 episodes a night until S5 came along. That took me over two months to get through. There was nothing to look forward too in that season, except for the potential of a telepath war that we would never get to see.
