Palpatine is a patriot! He suffered for 5 minutes at the hands of evil Jedi infiltrators who were able to turn his dark-force energy back on him. Meanwhile, Lando voted against saving Luke, Leia and Han until he realized the deal had changed, then he voted FOR saving Luke, Leia and Han. Palpatines voting record has always been clear on that subject. I just don't think Calrissian can be trusted...he even showed questionable judgement by taking a Wookie as his running mate. Chewbacca is obviously loud-mouthed, opinionated, and, when pressed, will rip the arms off of anything that gets in his way. Is this the kind of character we want as the 2nd chair in the Galactic Sentate that oversees the Grand Army of the Republic? I think not. Palpatine has years of manipula...um...'negotiating' with both sides of the Senate, and his VP choice, Anakin, has a proven track record of looking good in costume. It's rumored his Vader suit cost over 150K Republic Credits. And, he's known as a 'get things done' kind of candidate. He was able to get Death Star 2 back on track in order to provide critical support of the Emperial Fleet when it was ruthlessly attacked by Calrissian and his minions. My money is on the Emperor.
