The projecter screwed up half way through the movie and out of nowhere this guy showed up with a head band, walked to the front of the theater, did a karate chop and left. Everyone stood up and applauded, he left, and the movie came back on. I am still confused as to what actually happened that day.

This could either be hysterically funny or painfully bad. It's obvious that Sam is going to play Sho'nuff. And that alone is worth the price of a ticket. He'll look great in a Gene Simmon's wig. And what about Danny Devito as Eddie Arkadian? I just hope they keep the Asian guys who make fun of Leroy. That's one of the best parts.

There's absolutely nothing good about it but it's a great, fun flick all the same. They'll actually have to make the movie really good or really over the top trashy. If it falls in between it'll suck.

Sometimes it's nice to remember the films of the eighties...they weren't all great, but they at least had fun and earned a 'cult status'. I agree, everything doesn't need to be remade, but cut the original some leeway, man. Shit, at least it had a positive message, and encouraged being humble and dedicated. Shit, it was a fun 80's movie, and yeah, it did mean a lot to us young Black youth(we didn't have a whole bunch of hero's on screen at the time either, leave Carl Weathers alone)

The two things that make that movie truly awful was Eddie Arcanian and his crew. Simply dreadful character writing. Plus, the end fight between Taimak and Julius Carry III sucked because Carry wasn't a martial artist - he didn't even train for the movie. It was a fun movie though. Have William H. Macy reprise his role as a gay hairdresser.

..I thought that with a decent budget, this could actually be as fun for this younger generation as it was for those of us who dug it in the 80's. Yeha, let's admit it; it's shit. but it's fun shit, and the 3 times ( in two diffirent countries) I saw this in the theatre at 15 years old, it was A) packed, and B) a blast. Done with a budget and the right balance of fun, action choreography, and a decent budget, it could be fun again. I hope Sam trains...aw fuck, they could just face replace him on Taimak, the guy who originally played Bruce Leroy, who's still a bad ass martial artist 23 years later. How surreal would that shit be?

The very definition of "cult"
by The Reluctant Austinite
Oct 30th, 2008
11:00:15 AM
You can't intentionally create a cult film. This film is what truely defines the term cult film. It's totally original in tone and concept, and could only be born out of the 80s. In the 80s,during its theatrical release, one could only look at it in slack-jawed puzzlement. It was made for mainstream consumption, but plays much better to the midnight movie crowd. The filmmakers had to be doing giant piles of cocaine. It stands today as a singular piece of entertainment, but I don't think anyone under 30 who didn't experience the 80s firsthand would get anything out of this.

Will the remake use the immortal slogan "Just direct-a your feets-a to Daddy Green's Pizza"?. I mean this is perhaps the greatest advertising slogan within a film in the entire history of cinema. Daddy Green even had it on his sign - complete with the "a"s at the end of the words and everything. If they don't use it - I don't care who plays Sho'nuff - I'm not watching it. And another thing .... Everybody should know that "The Last Dragon" is perhaps one of the last great educational films in Cinematic History. I mean I don't know about you but I for one learned that if I was ever beaten up, abducted and tied up - there was hope. I mean Richie Green showed us that all we had to do was some kick ass break-dancing moves like "the worm" and you can easily escape being tied up. I can't tell you how this knowledge got me and my friends out of few tight situations.

1) The Last Dragon is a great movie in so many ways. I love it with all of my heart. It's a timeless classic for geeks. 2) Vanity may be my favorite movie chick of all time. I had/ have the biggest crush on her, especially in this movie. 3) Props to Sam Jackson- dude is truly a geek who just happens to get the chance to make movies he loves. 4) In regards to a remake though- it just makes me sick what Hollywood is doing these days. Sure, this may actually be a fun remake but it won't be anywhere near the original. Jackson will be great. But again, do we need to continue rehashing old movies. It's pathetic because there is so much great art and talent in the world that's not being given a chance to present itself. It's really a sad indictment on our culture/ Hollywood studios.

Just after college I was working at a hotel when Faith Prince stayed there. I couldn't help telling her that I'd seen TLD about a thousand times growing up. She sighed and recalled it as her first film role as "the bad guy's girlfriend." The best was when she was checking out she actually said, "Thanks for watching The Last Dragon." So the lesson here my friends is that...I don't actually know what the lesson is. I do find it incredibly fucking funny that I have actually been thanked for watching what, in many critics' eyes, is considered to be the wart on the hairy ass of black, kung-fu cinema.

by crazybubba
Oct 31st, 2008

This is a movie that can only be appreciated in the context of the time period it was made. It's an 80's flick having fun with 70's kungfu movies using 60's slang like "cat" "jive turkey" and of course "sho nuff". The break dancing and chessy 80's pop music from debarge helps make this movie great. I just read that RZA is co-producing the movie which means they're gonna update the music with modern day rap instead of 80's rap. It's gonna suck. They're probably gonna hire a bunch of i-can't-act and i-take-myself-way-to-fucking-s eriously rappers to be in the movie and act hard and ruin the feel of the movie. Its gonna suck. All these unoriginal Hollywood remakes suck. Big Trouble in Little China and this movie set the tone for super-powered kung-fu movies and yet no one has even bothered to pick the batton and run with it except maybe Tarantino with Kill Bill. I know I'm ranting, but i'm sick of all this unoriginal bullshit. Don't film a movie that is impossible to remake just because you think you con thousands of empty headed movie goers into throwing away their money on an updated cult classic with a lot of big names involved. Do what Tarantinto does--learn from the movie, build on it and write your own fucking movie.

Sho'Nuff comes in to the pizza place, gets his ass handed to him, and leaves in a stretcher. End of the movie, the shortened remake. Make me a pizza, one that says Bad Mo Fo.

and they better bring back Glen Eaton (Johnny Yu) in some capacity. That guy was funny as hell. Shit make him Leroy's master or something.

I guess I could see Samuel L. doing an ok job. But why all the remakes? Originality isn't dead, but it IS on a ventilator.
Love this movie. Even own the DVD.

But instead of a remake, I think I'd rather see a video game for it. Similar to 'The Warriors' game they made a few years ago, or the new Ghostbusters game coming out. Sam could v.o. the Sho'Nuff lines.
