filming that flick out here in the beautiful Detroit area ... so the local press has been following the movie pretty closely. It sounds like it's got a lot of potential, and props to Client for getting the feel right by shooting a flick about a retired auto plant worker with a car fixation actually in Detroit (and get set for a bunch of other Detroit based movies soon, thanks to our governor rolling out some egregious tax incentives for studios to start shooting here)

Good to see 'ol Clint shooting in the Detroit area. And the tax incentives have opened up a lot of filming here lately. Val Kilmer was in Grand Rapids shooting a movie here recently. Prolly go direct-to-DVD tho. But hey..I remember the hubbub when Richard Pryor, Harvey Keitel and the rest were filming Blue Collar back in the late '70s.

How can one man be quite so cool and tough over 4 decades. Just for arguments sake, how many other people in the movies can boast such an impressive body of work over the years? Sure, he's had his flops, but its hard to think of someone who's had quite so many iconic roles and also furthered their career as a director at a level that Eastwood has.

This looks great.. I will be seeing this when it opens.. I have a good Clint story.. When Kellys Hero's came out it premiered at The Parkway theater in Las Vegas..I knew a couple of the girls who worked there and they let me and a couple of buddies into the showing for free. We wanted to see who would show up for the film and I was surprised but the theater was only about half full..We waited in the front row and in walks Clint, Don Rickles, Donald Sutherland , and Telly Savales.. Now here we are about 17 years old and waiting for Rickles to start to rip into the audience but he and Eastwood said a few words about the film and then he and Don Rickles start to walk back to the seats in the rear of the theater. Don Rickles and Clint come over to us and stop and tell us that we shouldn't sit so close to the screen as it will hurt our eyes and that moving back a little will give us a better film experience. Now here's two guys that cared that we got to see this film and enjoy it more by not sitting so close to the screen..I will always remember that. I saw every Eastwood film thereafter and really bacame a film geek around that time..This guy is a class act all the way around.. He rarely makes a bad film and can do it all, act, direct, score, you name it..They just don't make stars like him anymore.
Looks great.

Looks just like Miller's old Batman when he fought Supes. And he's still got some muscle mass. Eastwood's aging like Newman; his whole face just keeps getting tighter. And now with those emerging liver spots and reddening of his cataracts he looks even scarier with a shotgun. However my enthusiasm would've went through the roof (for let's be honest, what looks like a small underwhelming film) if Hobo Eastwood woulda burned those gifts the Chinese neighbors left on his door for helping. I hope this guy is just as angry, even after his cliched redemption scene, and before he almost certainly dies. I want this movie to have balls. I want Hobo Eastwood to mumble some racial slur with his final breath. If he cries in this movie I will burn the theatre I see it in DOWN.

The guy just oozes quality. Most directors DREAM of having that many amazing films in their entire career. Clint, you are a legend. Keep em comin.

Unforgiven, Outlaw Josey Wales, Million dollar baby, Mystic River,Heartbreak Ridge( i think is very underrated)Bird ,High Plains Drifter,Pale Rider, Bronco Billy,The Eiger Sanction ( another movie i think gets shafted ). He has made a shit ton of great films and a hell of a lot of really good ones. i think Clint might have Marty trumped due to sheer volume of work..... arguably at least !

Clint was too cool as Rowdy Yates in Rawhide, 1959. In the '60s, he was the Man with No Name. The '70s gave us Dirty Harry. Let's not forget the great director and actor of the 80's, 90's and the current decade, and that totals Six decades as a bad ass! Next year will mark the 50th Anniversary of Rawhide. Then again, it's already been 53 years since his film debut. Clint is a Fucking Legend!!!!

And who was pissing and moaning about Asian gangsters??? The world of the OG is an equal opportunity paradigm.

Point is, Eastwood's an old dude who fought in an east Asian war - Vietnam, Korea, the Boxer Rebellion, whatever. If this movie was set in the year 2050, the neighbors and the gangsters would be Iraqis. Same diff.

theres the risk that it could potentially be interpreted as racist-though Clint's too smart for that so Im sure the film is fine in context. Eastwood's conservative too - supports McCain in this election and everything. What kicks ass about him is that he's one of the few filmmakers/actors that will defy his conservative beliefs in service of a story.

The ending of Million Dollar Baby is a perfect example of this (SPOILER). He caught a LOT of shit from conservative talking heads who think euthanasia is wrong, and his response was essentially "I may not believe in it, but I'm not going to change a perfectly good ending just because it makes me personally uncomfortable."

My point is this: personal politics don't apply in a film like this, because I guarantee that Clint Eastwood doesn't give half a shit about them when it comes to movies. He tells stories, period.

The first half of Million dollar baby was great.

get plaudits from Richard Burton. Burton was asked what it was like to work with Clint. Burton was dismissive at first, but realised clints greatness when he saw what he did with the small amount of lines that were given to him. Burton said that unlike other Hollywood stars he found CLint Eastwood to be really gracious. As did william goldman. Clint doesnt audition actors. He simply pulls out a list of actors from his desk from his non descript office. and his casting agents ring the actors on the list. and that is it.

Actually, I think Aaron Eckhart's voice after becoming Two-Face sounds the most like Clint Eastwood's, especially in the first hospital scene and especially since you see lots of teeth, but the mouth itself barely moves, though in this case I'd imagine that's mostly because it can't move much. Anyhow, just saying, if you want to look for Eastwood's voice coming from a different actor in the new Batman film, I think it's hands-down from Two-Face, particularly when Gordon says he's sorry and Two-Face grunts, "No! No you're not. Not yet..."

Just because a movie has ethnically diverse actors doing bad things that doesn't make it racist. And claiming you are trying to point out how overly sensitive others are just shows off what a pissed of small minded white boy YOU are. (ESPECIALLY when no one to this point has posted a talkback even remotely suggesting the film is biased). There are Asian gangs in this world. Some Black guys in Detroit are bad people. Old White dudes are sometimes prejudiced. Just becoz some assholes cry racism doesn't mean you have to justify them by even responding. Do urselves a favor and only speak of Spike Lee when he makes a good movie. You would be amazed how much time it saves.

. . .these recent films of Clint's (Mystic River, Million Dollar Baby, Letters from Iwo Jima, now this) seem to have a great formal symmetry to them. You know this won't just be another revenge/action type deal. . . it will have character development, story arcs, a fulfilling climax, the whole deal. He really has become quite a storyteller. In interviews and such, he makes his views, ideas, and politics sound awfully one note, but his films are always a LOT more complicated. . . Unforgiven is practically postmodern in its reassessment of the American western. My prediction is that this and Changeling will both be A pictures.

I'm surprised by how many talkbackers seem to think the movie about him being racist and how that's okay. If you've seen a movie before, or if you've read one sentence about this movie's plot, you know that in addition to being the asskicking Eastwood movie the world demands, it is a story about him learning tolerance through his relationship with his immigrant neighbor. Duh.

This is also pretty standard Eastwood characterization, for example take a look at THE ENFORCER, where he's very chauvinistic but Tyne Daley earns his respect.

I agree with you that the movie obviously deals with Clint overcoming his racism by befriending his Asian neighbors. Look at his current track record - Clint's movies have progressively gotten darker and more complex over the years.
