but I'm so fucking sick and tired of celebrity endorsement of a political race. Shut the fuck up, make us laugh cry cringe or whatever the fuck it is you do. I'm so damned tempted to vote McCain just to piss on these celebrities and their 'holier than thou' mentality. Companies throw millions at these ass-fuckers to endorse and get US to buy clothes, colognes/perfumes, make-up, accessories and every gawdammed other thing available. JUST STOP IT ALREADY. Couldn't he have said what he said at the end of the message? Register to vote, vote your heart? NO... he has to fuck it all up by saying who he's voting for and why we should, too. He brings an old senile fucker and an actor we've all known to be in the closet to support him? BAH!!!!!!

Yes, because that's an excellent reason to cast your vote... to piss someone off. I'm sure the founding fathers would be proud of you wanting other people to shut up about the direction they think the country should go, and using your vote to make someone "mad". I think it's funny you're calling them holier than thou... isn't that pretty much what you're doing in comparison to them?

change... why the fuck do we need change? Yeah, because of Bush... but also because all the wishy-washy fuckers who were too upset that Clinton had his cock in Monica's mouth... they cried for change 8 years ago and look how YOU, the American voter, fucked us over but good. You have to ask yourself... do you want true change? Or just the promise of change? Because that's the exact same thing Bush campaigned for... change. Sound familiar? Look at the people, look at the issues... don't take the word of either campaign, especially when talking about their opponent... look at the issues and vote for who you think can do the BEST JOB POSSIBLE... not promises of change because, really, that's what both candidates are promising.
Henry Winkler is a douche...
by PirateEmery

02:05:46 PM
He basically disowned his two nephews. If your nephews go to college right near your house and you never see them in the four years they go there, you are officially a douche in my book.

And his nephews are great: I've looked up to them my whole life, as they are my cousins. Here's how the family tree goes: my mom's sister is married to Scott Furstman, whose sister is Stacy Furstman. Stacy Furstman (Weitzman from her prior marriage) is married to Henry Winkler. Thus, I can safely say that if Henry supports Obama, then I see that as a good thing for McCain. It sure takes a lot for an entire family to change the channel when their uncle comes on.

Funny clip, pretty hilarious how a wig and a change of shirt can re-make an entire individual. If only the country could be changed as easily.

I want to believe, I want to believe that Obama is somehow going to magically make things better, but I do have reservations and I guess there are issues that I still struggle with, which aren't so easy for me to just whistle away and act as though we would all be better for. But that's just my pessimistic streak, I suppose.

Harry, you have a wonderful web site here. I visit it often. But why do you have to take the focus off of film and push a one sided political agenda? Its true, I do believe Obama is of the dark side of the force. But you know the old saying..."a house divided will fall" which is exactly where our country is headed. You know, come to think of it, you were also wrong about the HD-DVD format. Thank God I chose Blu-Ray and did'nt listen to you. I will do the same for the presidential election.

I figured they would cease when Obama said he was gonna tax the piss out of those making more than $250K, but I guess they weren't listening to that! All actors and actresses, you play make believe as your JOB!! And, while I find that to be a VERY cool job, it doesn't give you the fragging authority to tell me who to vote for! I don't give a fuck about your opinion, just like you don't give a fuck about mine!! And, as much as I am sick of Harry chunking his two cents in about his gay man crush for Obama, this is his site, he pays the bills on this motha fucka, and if he wants to spray his goo on B. Obama's chest, that is his business. It was good to see Andy Griffith and Henry Winkler are still alive.

It also amuses me how in America apparently everyone is free to have their own opinions and actively campaign for whoever they believe in, except celebrities, who apparently automatically become douchebags if they dare show their support or speak their political opinions, even when asked, which they of course are pretty much non stop during times like this. Oh, and of course anyone who disagrees with anyone else is also automatically a moron and probably unamerican to boot. Ah democracy, eh?

as producers receive a phenomenal write off if they produce here in the US of A. There was an article about it on Cato.org, methinks

Hollywood actor folk play parts so they seem like they're just average fellers, but there richer and smarter and better and can help us with such lofty idears as 'voting' and 'thinking'.

Also, I wonder if any of the candidates have seen that boring as hell documentary that I think only Massawyrm and myself have seen. I don't know why Massa did it, I'm hedging my bets in the even that Purgatory is real. I just shaved off like a half century for watching that thing. I did have to watch CSPAN for a half an hour to readjust my ability to perceive motion in real time. Kinda like divers adjusting to atmosphere.

by Eyegore

03:45:12 PM
You know who these people are bitching right? No of course you don't because they are nobodies that only their close friends and family care about. Like you and me. Nobody cares what they have to say other than 'some asshole on the forum said blah blah blah'. Ron Howard on the other hand is famous. Look how many people click to see what he has to say. And that's the power of fame, and with great power comes great responsibility, so the responsible ones are say what needs to be said in the hopes of getting some of the sheep to think and make th right choice (whatever that might be). So for you random un-famous complainers, I say shut the fuck up nobody cares about your whacked out opinion. Say hello to your mother for me.

He was actually the "steady as she goes" candidate, and Gore was the "change" candidate at a time when America didn't want change. - McCain is gonna lose because too many Republicans are gonna sit on their hands, not because Hollywood is endorsing Obama. Hollywood always endorses the Democrat, it's nothing new. But McCain's appeal to Republicans was always that you could count on him to stick to a position over the long term, even for years, when everybody else was flip-flopping all over the place, and Republicans expected him to run his campaign that way. But instead of creating a solid campaign plan and sticking to it, they've been chasing the "issue of the day", and in doing so they threw away the one big 'strength' that McCain had going for him. - On the fundamental workings of Washington D.C., Obama will continue business-as-usual as laid out by Bush II, Clinton, and Bush I. If you want someone to really try and change the way the gears spin in D.C. (an impossible task, in my opinion, actually) then McCain's your guy. Obama is not really a "change candidate". He'll end up like Jim Hacker from Yes Prime Minister, signing whatever the bureaucrats lay in front of him.

...And you know what? I'm voting for Obama. Why? McCain voted against our troops MANY times in the senate. John McCain voted AGAINST 20 million dollars for veteran care facilities. John McCain voted AGAINST $322 million for safety equipment for our troops in Iraq. John McCain voted AGAINST $1 billion dollars in new equipment for the National Guard. John McCain voted AGAINST Jim Webb's G.I. Bill. John McCain voted AGAINST $430 million for veterans outpatient care. Barack voted FOR all of these troop support initiatives. Have you ever noticed that whenever a country OTHER THAN the U.S. has an election, there are always candidates from at least 4 different parties at every debate? And here in the country which practically invented modern democracy, we're stuck with 2. What's up with that? I know that no 3rd party candidate has a chance of winning, but if more than a third of Americans vote for someone other than McCain or Obama for President, it would at least send a message.

"Democrat", "Republican", "liberal", "conservative"... those words are meaningless. I just saw a YouTube video blaming Obama for the mortgage crisis; he voted against strict regulations that could have prevented it. But we all know that if he had voted for MORE regulations, there would be a different YouTube video calling him a socialist. Or a communist. Or one of them commie-nazis. You can make anyone look bad by playing the word-association game instead of looking at actual issues, and we should all be sick of it.

I fully believe they are entitled to their first amendment rights. I have no problem with a celeb on a talk show randomly being asked a question but to make commercials and act like they are an extension of the campaign is god damned ludicrous. Like I stated originally, this message would have been so much better if it was simply his last line... go, register to vote and vote with your heart, doesn't matter who it's for. That's a fantastic message. I'm not cementing a decision until Nov 4. I want to see what both guys do and what they do for their campaigns and how they react to situations, etc. It's the candidates themselves I watch. I honestly doubt many of these celebrities even know what the hell they're talking about. They have producer/director/studio friends who 'educate' them on the issues then ask to throw a camera in front of them and share their wonderful knowledge with people hat rcognize and sometimes worship their images. by Kolchak2
Oct 24th, 2008

Andy Griffith and Opie endorsing Obama over McCain is like endorsing Goober over Barney Fife... insane. . . . Obama promises a tax break for "95 percent of Americans" but only about 64 percent of Americans pay any Federal Income Tax. What this means is that Obama is NOT cutting taxes, but creating a new way to expand the welfare state. His campaign says it's a "social security tax rebate" paid for by other people's income taxes. That means it is not a tax cut at all and it undermines social security which is already unsustainable. How many of you are employed by a poor person? None of us are. Employment comes from those who've found a way to be successful. Increasing taxes on small businesses (Obama's small business taxes hit hard), capital gains, Corporate tax and federal marginal rates is a GREAT way to KEEP the economy down. And before you say, the rich don't pay their fair share, look up who actually pays taxes. The richest 1 percent pay around 40 percent of all federal income tax. The richest 50 percent pay 97 percent of the income tax. The bottom 50 percent pay 3 percent. The rest of the industrialized world is talking about reducing taxes, while Obama wants to raise them out of "fairness". That is not fair or smart. McCain's plan to cut corporate taxes from a 35 percent rate to a 25 percent rate will move the United States from being the 2nd highest corporate taxer in the world to about the middle of the pack. THAT will be good for job creation. McCain's plan to refuse to raise rates for anyone is good for everyone. Obama's economic worldview is one of a zero-sum game. Check out his comments about us not driving our SUV's or heating our houses comments on youtube and watch it carefully. He laments that we are 3 percent of the world's population using 25 percent of the resources, but fails to consider the ability of countries to develop and increase their own energy supplies and resources. His "spread the wealth" comment to the plumber guy was exactly his approach to economics which is about distributing income not growing it, which means fewer jobs, fewer raises for us. On health care, Obama's plan will cause more employers to drop benefits and more expense for government. Look at Hawaii's experience with universal child care (see Investor's Business Daily's op ed from two or three days ago). McCain's plan would increase availability, flexibility, and would get costs under control. On national defense, McCain is also a clear winner. He has taken on bloated and/or corrupt defense contracts (when has Obama taken on corruption? His own house is tainted by it's connection to Rezko (Obama calls it "boneheaded")) McCain was clearly right on the surge, Obama was wrong. Obama wants to unilaterally disarm, despite a rapidly arming Russia and China. Biden's comment in Seattle that OBama would be "tested" because he is young and inexperienced is very likely true. He compared him to JFK, but JFK had far more experience in congress and as a PT commander. In short, while Senator Obama is a charismatic speaker, a good family man, and a talented campaigner, he has the wrong ideas and is not ready to be president. McCain will not be perfect, but he is infinitely better than Senator Obama. Final note: I know it's the cool liberal thing to hate Governor Sarah Palin, but she's actually taken on her own party when the powerful among them were corrupt (when did Obama take on Mayor Daley's machine?). Palin managed to force oil companies like Exxon to renegotiate a deal negotiated with the previous governor and ended up with a deal far better for Alaskans. Despite recent media spin, she slashed the governor's office travel spending by about 60 percent. She cut $250 million from the state budget, and has more executive experience than Obama and Biden combined. Yes, she's made some embarrassing comments in interviews, but so has Obama (I've been to 57, no, 60 states) and Joe Biden (who MADE UP A WAR in the VP debate-- the U.S. and France NEVER invaded Lebanon, Never forced Hezbollah out, and NEVER asked for NATO in). So while it might be fun to try to demean her, or dismiss her as a sexual object, you discredit yourselves in doing so. Have some respect.

Wall Street Bonuses Hit Record $39 Billion for 2007 (Update3) By Christine Harper Jan. 17(Bloomberg)

-- Wall Street's five biggest firms are paying a record $39 billion in bonuses for 2007, a year when three of the companies suffered the worst quarterly losses in their history and shareholders lost more than $80 billion. Goldman Sachs Group Inc., Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch & Co., Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. and Bear Stearns Cos. together awarded $65.6 billion in compensation and benefits last year to their 186,000 employees. That means year-end bonuses, at 60 percent of the total, exceeded the $36 billion distributed in 2006 when the industry reported all-time high profits. The New York-based firms, which shed 25 percent of their equity value during 2007, have said they're eliminating at least 6,200 jobs amid mounting losses from the collapse of the subprime mortgage market. The payouts come as the U.S. economy slows, with unemployment rising, retail sales declining and new home foreclosures surging to a record. ``To many people, it will be shocking and questionable,'' said Jeanne Branthover, managing director of Boyden Global Executive Search in New York. ``People in New York in the world of investment banking will understand it. It's critical that pay is still there or you're going to lose really good people.'' The industry's bonuses are larger than the gross domestic products of Sri Lanka, Lebanon or Bulgaria, and the average bonus of $219,198 is more than four times higher than the median U.S. household income in 2006, according to data compiled by the U.S. Census Bureau.----

Yeah, I think we could all live with taxing those fuckers and the likes of Exxon a little bit more so the Middle class and those under $250,00 a year can get a Tax Cut in a Recession.

Frankly she ISN'T anywhere near as hot as the deranged, frustrated and repressed Neocons and Republicans think she is so don't worry about her status as a sexual object.

She is a complete Quayle of a VEEP who is dragging down the Ticket for McCain as the Polls are now showing Yes! but not a sexual object.

And when Hockey mom spends $150,000 on clothes in a few weeks there is absolutely NO danger of having respect for the likes of her. Watching McCain cringe beside her at her answers in the interview last night it's kind of hard to argue she deserves much respect now if McCain can't even show her much.

McCain meanwhile has what, 8? 10? 12? Houses and about 12 cars I don't think this horseshit about being on the side of the average American is going to fly somehow.

As for the predictable scaremongering about Obama, we've heard it all before and Colin Powell certainly doesn't think he's a risk on National Security, unlike putting the likes of Palin a heartbeat away from the Presidency. But I suppose in a crunch she could always blow kisses and wink like she did at the debate. So clearly she's well equipped to tackle 2 intractable Wars and an Economic Cataclysm on top of a Recession.

And since the Keating Five incident in the 80s, McCain's been on a crusade to fight corruption wherever he could in Congress. Has it always worked? No. But he's, at least, put in the effort, unlike the majority of his collegues.

I'd much rather vote for a guy who's PROVEN that he'll do what he says, rather than some unknown snake-oil dealer who hides behind promises of "HOPE," but whose resumé consists of a blank sheet of paper with references that all belong in the state pen.

Too bad McCain was criticized of poor judgement
by G100
Oct 24th, 2008
08:03:52 AM
by Congress regardless of whether he crossed the line into outright illegality or YOU might have had a point. Poor judgement like this..

McCain and Keating had become personal friends following their initial contacts in 1981, and McCain was the only one of the five with close social and personal ties to Keating. Like DeConcini, McCain considered Keating a constituent as he lived in Arizona. Between 1982 and 1987, McCain had received $112,000 in political contributions from Keating and his associates. In addition, McCain's wife Cindy McCain and her father Jim Hensley had invested $359,100 in a Keating shopping center in April 1986, a year before McCain met with the regulators. McCain, his family, and their baby-sitter had made nine trips at Keating's expense, sometimes aboard Keating's jet. Three of the trips were made during vacations to Keating's opulent Bahamas retreat at Cat Cay. McCain did not pay Keating (in the amount of $13,433) for some of the trips until years after they were taken, when he learned that Keating was in trouble over Lincoln. In 1989 Phoenix New Times writer Tom Fitzpatrick opined that McCain was the "most reprehensible" of the five senators.(Wiki)

Poor judgement in a huge Economic fuck up like the savings and loan scandal. Why, that's clearly just the person needed to solve this current colossal Economic clusterfuck.

Never mind. Keep trying with the smears. They can all be rebuffed or as I've shown returned, as there is plenty in McCains past without even bringing up his disfigured previous wife and his "honorable" beehaviour towards her.

My point about Keating is that McCain has terrible judgement not that he was convicted of anything or went to jail.

Terrible judgement like picking Palin just as the Economy was beginning to smash to pieces and the recession was really beginning to hit hard.

Or picking Pastor Hagee to get a fullsome endorsement from when the guy is a batshit insane fucking lunatic who said God had sent Hitler to hunt the Jews and cause the Holocaust.

Or like picking Samuel the unlicensed Plumber to base almost all of his last debates Economic and Tax Policy on when Samuel hadn't even paid some of his Taxes and would qualify for Obamas middle class Tax Cut.

Or like dropping out of the Campaign to do nothing at a meeting with Bush on the Bailout then appearing erratic and flip-flopping by changing his mind to appear at the debate with Obama.

Or like trying to smear Obama with this laughable "conection" to Ayres then telling Palin and the Campaign to shut the fuck up about terrorists when the polls told him it was backfiring badly.

Maybe it isn't bad judgement. Maybe he's just having a few "senior" moments. But for every absurdly tenuous "connection" to Obama McCain has a "connection" to an "interesting" character too.

The biggest of course being his connection to a certain George W. Bush. Unless of course McCain decides the week before polling he's going to stop being a Republican. (that WOULD take a hell of a senior moment admittedly.)

The difference between the Campaigns is Obama doesn't need to go negative 24/7 whereas McCain is doing just that and merely looks like a re-run of Bush's Campaigns.

Obama just needs to do what he's been doing for months and keep Campaigning on the Economy because it really is that simple.

IT'S THE ECONOMY STUPID!

Learn it well.

Maybe it isn't bad judgment. But based on Obama's almost non-existent record of accomplishment, it's hard to find evidence that the guy has that much GOOD judgment when it comes to being trustworthy and serving the people of this country.

as they have very well trained accountants and lawyers that can hide the millions in a million different ways. It is easy to support heavy taxation and wealth redistribution when you own wealth can't be touched. The Base, the uneducated, politically ignorant masses that actually think there is a difference between the GOP and the DNC,LOVE seeing celebs support their candidate...the tyrants love having celebs on board as it gives them high profile notice for little cost, and actors have traditionally loved having access to the Political elite and their Corporatist masters. As for loving Obama...you might as well Love Bush. Do the Math Harry..Obama is a Imperialist Hawk who has already threatend Pakistan and Iran...and his Looney would be Vice President has already slapped the faces of our major creditors..Russia, India and China by calling them a threat. Obamas policies are not much different than Neocon McCains..other than the fact he wants to soak the guy who makes 200K a year to support the lazy and wants even MORE intervention through the Tyrannical U.N. to spread "democracy". You want REAL change..vote for someone who is actually different from what we already have. A young face and base pandering speeches do not "Change" make.

Fictional Characters for Obama

It looks like Obama has at least some of the fictional character vote. But not to worry. I hear that John McClane, Rocky Balboa, John Rambom, Conan the Barbarian, Captain John Sheridan, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer will endorse McCain very soon.

Thanks for highlighting that indisputable fact with a tired and desperate retread of all the desperate smears that mean fuck all to people fearing for their jobs and finances as the Markets tank again and the Economy continues to fall to pieces.

McCain down by 7 in Ohio down by 2 in Florida down by almost 10 in Pennsylvania and thats with Voting ALREADY underway. Yes the Rovian Bush negative Campaigning sure is paying off Big Time!

Oh and for those who are still trying the desperate socialist smear here's a reminder of what that arch socialist John McCain said about spreading the wealth.

"because we feel obviously that wealthy people can afford more."

"Here's what I really believe: That when you reach a certain level of comfort, there's nothing wrong with paying somewhat more."

Finally some GOOD judgement from McCain.

"...other than the fact he wants to soak the guy who makes 200K a year to support the lazy" - how stupid of us! Obama's policies will *only* affect 95% of the US population for the BETTER. Or are they the 'lazy' you meant? You're an idiot. Go away and read a few books, maybe travel (they say it broadens the mind!) but for the sake of our sanity, don't reproduce.

Let's see... his name isn't really Joe. He isn't a licensed plumber. He has no money or credit to buy his own business. He has been on welfare and has a lien for not paying his taxes.

And this lying deadbeat has become a right-wing media darling for hassling Obama about why should he pay higher taxes if he ever gets rich? Joe the Fake Plumber will never make $250K in his life, let alone in one tax year. Fake Joe is a phony agitator, nothing more.

Not really, I thought it was great, charming and a nice gentle way to express his point of view without being another shrill, talentless idiot actor like Sean Penn who can't ever shut his mouth. Ron Howard is Peachy Keen in my view.

That's a good description of what's going on. It's like the country has a crush on the guy. But deciding a president has to made on more than a feeling. It has to be about experience, wisdom, and decisiveness. Obama has none of these qualities.
