Funny to start but too much milk being pulled off the old cow. Note to Larry, when the teats come off in your hands it's time to find another cow.

season 6 was definatly an improvement on the mis-fire of season 5 (not to be overly critical cos its one of my favourite shows but series 5 just got every note wrong) although the utterly perplexing ending of the last episode means the next series has a rather weird vibe to start on. Ah well, at least we can assume Leon will be back! But they need to understand before they start, that Curb was great at the beginning because Larry was the GOOD guy-in interviews about the show people always say how selfish and ignorant a character he is and they subsequently played up to it, with him becoming an asshole who was purely to blame for the confrontations he got involved in(the Korean Bookie episode being the most obvious that comes to mind)and he became an unlikeable git...up until season four Larry was almost ALWAYS right in his arguments and seemed to have the best intentions, while it was the world around him that was irrational and confrontational....they lost sight of that recently and it dragged the show down.Or maybe thats just me-did anyone ese notice that change in direction? Season 7 will hopefully be a return to form!

Season 6 was absolutely dreadful. It was tired and, for the most part, not remotely funny. And forced- incredibly forced. I thought season 5 had its flaws, but overall was still great. Everything before that was gold. I hope he can bring back the magic to season 7.
Season 6 one of the best? Not sure about that.

I really found he was reaching most of the time to pull off his usual cheesy tie ins. (I really don't mind that they're cheesy, especially after watching British shows like The Mighty Boosh - as long as they're genuinely funny). I just get the sense that he's taking the money and running. Having said that I'll still watch the new season and hope for the best.
Larry David vs. Jerry Seinfeld

Larry David has shown who was the true talent behind Seinfeld the show. Since the end of Seinfeld, David has gone on to create another ground breaking comedy series.

Jerry has done... not so much. He mostly acts like he's a rich spoiled baby.

I was starting to get worried that there would'nt be another season. Put me in with the people who did'nt think season 6 was that great. I thought it was.....okay. I have no idea why Larry decided to bring in Mandel, Berg, and Schaffer. They totally ruined Seinfeld once David left and sure enough their episodes were terrible. Especially the one Berg directed about Larry being assaulted by a skin head in the waiting room. I thought Season 5 was the second best only behind season 2. I guess I'm pretty alone on that though.

Dude, you are spot on. I am always baffled by people who assert that LD is an asshole on the show (last 2 seasons notwithstanding). The best part of the show for me has always been watching him react to the people acting crazy around hum, like he's the only sane person in the room. Priceless. I hope they get back to that this season. I will say though, last season was pretty damn funny. Looking forward to the new shows.
They need as much Leon as possible.

Unless he just wipes the slate clean like Season 6 never happened, Leon needs to be given more screen time. The best scenes in the season had him in it.

No doubt about it. Season 4 is probably one of the best seasons of any sitcom ever. Period. My fiancee hates Larry David with a passion, but even she enjoyed Season 4 and thought the ending was hilarious. I doubt he'll ever craft a season as well-rounded as that ever again, but one can hope.

ARGH how can you all not see the genius that was season 6! He's turning a corner with the series and in season 7 will sprint to the finish line. 1 more season and that's that. Just like with Seinfeld.

But last season completely reinvigorated the show, even if the ending two seasons ago (and even last season) were perfect images to go out on. Regardless of when the show ends, I'm going to consider the ending of the season five finale to be the true one. Unless he manages to top that.
The Sienfeld formula and why it works.
by Filmrage

Here is the reason Sienfeld worked so well. You had the combination of Larry Davids brutally funny humour and Jerry Sienfelds likability. That's it. If you have ever drunk tea with milk or eaten vanilla mellowed chocolate you can understand that the milk or vanila alone ain't so great, it's too sweet/light. The tea or chocolate alone is too bitter. It's only when you mix them that you get the addictive formula. In the Uk we have Steve Coogan and Armando Innuci making 'Alan partridge'. Armando is like larry David. Quite dislikeable on his own and Coogan is like Sienfeld, nice but not so sharp. But together in Alan partridge with Innuci writing they are comedy gold. It's amazing that David has been a sucess on his own. I guess in some way the tone of Sienfeld conditined the audience for his humour. it came at just the right time. I still crack up when i think of him whipping out and eating those edible panties while he's stuck on the ski lift with that little girl. Another thing about Sienfeld to note is how similar the characters are to well known cartoons. Jerry is Bugs bunny (slightly funny but mainly the likeable straight guy who gets everything easily). George is Daffy Duck (greedy, nasty and agressive who usually ends us the shmuck). Kramer is goofy. (ok i don't know who Elane is.)

My wife and I saw Seinfeld do standup in Chicago about a year ago and we laughed our asses off. We like him and his TV show. We just started watching Curb Your Enthusiasm this year after hearing about it a lot, and saw seasons 1-5, and like it too. Still have to check out season 6. Hope season 7 is good too.

When on opening night of the restaurant, everyone started to curse in non sequiter. I think Jeff Garlin said "grandmothers tits", which still makes me chuckle.

Since he's divorced in real life (and on the show?), will Larry be hitting the dating scene? Could be comic gold, but hasn't that topic been milked for all its worth?

Filmrage, on comparing Seinfeld to cartoon characters
by JuntMonkey
Oct 26th, 2008

Disney characters are a much better comparison. Jerry is Mickey, the entertainer, star, and straight man who isn't terribly funny on his own. George is Donald, short, fat, hot tempered. Kramer is so Goofy that it's not even funny - tall, lanky, jacks-of-all-trades, major physical comedians, a little "off" in terms of functioning in the world. These comparisons are so close it almost seems like it MUST be intentional. (Elaine obviously elements of both Daisy and Minnie).
