Since Warners doesn't want to ever release this film, it wouldn't surprise me if some people take a camcorder and tape the film. They may feel justified in doing that since they figure it's the only way the film will get seen. Btw...I DON'T RECOMMEND anyone recording the movie illegaly. But, I could understand why you would do something like that. THE MOVIE LOOKS AWESOME! ESPECIALLY THE "GIRLS NIGHT OUT" SEGMENT WITH ANNA PAQUIN AND THOSE HOT GIRLS! Also, that little pumpkin kid is freaky.

and it was a crowd pleaser (even as the last film of the lineup). If I lived closer to L.A., I'd be there for sure.

There's absolutely no good reason that this film should languish away without be released theatrically.

word of mouth and looks fun and interesting has such an uphill climb, and yet we have Saw V, ___ Movie, etc. And before anyone mentions Snakes on a Plane, yeah, I know the AICN crowd is not a barometer for box office potential, but it's still weird that Trick r Treat can't get a release considering many of the awful movies that do.

never seen this trailer until this morning. I watched it like, 4 times in a row. It looks ridiculously amazing. I actually really feel what Dylan Baker's character is talking about, with all the Halloween traditions being broken. Kinda makes me sad that all anybody does on halloween anymore is have a party. I used to live in a neighboorhood that got really into Halloween when I was a kid. Bummer that it's turned into a commercial holiday for the candy companies.

So we can't get something obviously cool looking, that fans, critics and the studio all love released? Why exactly? We can't have originality but "SAW V" is in theaters 5 days from now.. Kind of a joke.
can someone explain? and Optimus V
by ranma627
Oct 19th, 2008
01:21:09 PM
What's the reasoning behind all this. Have Legendary Pictures explained the situation. I want to see this movie so bad but I don't want it to be released away from the holiday. So, please, Legendary, get your shit together, people are dying to see some original horror, especially something with phenomenal word of mouth. Start advertising starting next July/August and release it in the first or second week of October. I understand the industry being cruel to Midnight Meat Train and Repo!: The Genetic Opera because those movies are hard to market but this is easy shit. People will eat something like this up. Optimus V, I completely agree with you. I love Halloween and all its traditions and it's sad that trick or treating isn't what it used to be, But I still do my best to celebrate. We decorate, we go to plenty of haunted houses and on Halloween day we seat outside, give out candy and I dress up and try to scare people. It's tons of fun. Halloween isn't about partying and everytime I get stuck having to go to a party on Halloween night, I hate it. Because I should be home with family and friends watching horror movies to cap off the season.
Ahhh... The "Serenity" release strategy

That's where this seems to be headed. Show it at special events and screenings all over the place, letting your core fans see it for free, then months and months later you finally release it and it makes no money, and you wonder why.

Ranma, totally agree. The only reason I get less pissed about going to parties is because when I go to a Halloween party with my friends, it's less "party" more "Hey, let's go to somebody's house and watch as many horror movies as possible". We also usually take an intermission around 9-ish and go trick or treating for about 20 minutes (we're all high school/college, so we don't get weird looks..yet). Also proud to say that I still leave out jack-o-lanterns til midnight and still dress up (going as either Light Yagami or Stuntman Mike this year). Halloween is still a sacred night in my books.

... it's ungodly how many people responded. Trying to get the list sorted right now. One thing that I want to be clear about... this is a screening for fans. We've got 400-something seats available, and we're giving over 400 of them away to AICN readers, not to VIPS or industry folks. Legendary and Mike Dougherty understand that there are people who want to see this and, at this particular moment, this is how we can make that happen. One screening at a time. Maybe I can talk to Capone about Chicago...
